Donate Generously! Layyah Rehabilitation, Year 2013 HOW WE HELPED The village of Layyah was destroyed by the floods, and the people of Layyah were desperate for help in rebuilding their village. Helping Little Angels provided cooked food, emergency food packages for one month per household, cooking utensils, medicine and clothing for the winter months. The temperature in Layyah during the winter months reaches freezing point. Water Pump Installaion Water is one of the most valuable blessings bestowed upon us by Allah Almighty. Water is central to the growth of life and no life can be imagined without it. It is valuable gift of Nature and is one of the fundamental contributory factors to the existence of life on the face of earth. 3/4 portion of our earth is composed of water and every country acknowledges its importance. According to experts, 4 gallons of water are required for every human being. According to international standard, there is a need of 50 cubic meters per person annually or 30 gallon of water per person. The provision of this much water is possible in urban areas but in the rural areas, getting even one gallon of clean water person is next to impossible. Women have to travel long distances for water in desert and rocky areas. Due to invading human beings and animals over fountains, the water becomes polluted and causes many diseases. This includes diseases related with abdomen, kidneys and skin etc. One characteristic of water is its being solvable as a result of which it becomes polluted in no time. The news regarding adulteration of a poison called 'sankhia' with underwater in the interior of Punjab of Sind are also disturbing. The quantity of 10 microgram 'sankhia' in one liter water causes cancer. The diseases born out of water and cleanliness are the basis of 60% deaths of children in Pakistan. According to an estimate, 80% of our diseases originate from the use of defective water. In South-West countries, the phenomenon of cancer is caused by ruination of rocks and melting of mineral components. But this ratio of poisonous pollution is on the rise because of absorption of industrial waste by the soil. The adulteration of industrial waste and pesticides etc with water has rendered it unusable. Keeping in view the havoc caused by the 'Katrina' in US and 'Tsunami' in Asia, the importance and utility of clean water has increased manifold warranting timely and quick response. 1. Lahore 2. On the basis of scientific progress, the use of mineral resources from the innermost recesses of soil has become possible through various tools in the modern age. But at the same time, the reality has also dawned upon us the fact that reservoirs of water underneath soil are very limited and are intact by a system of balance. Last eight years have seen an increase in the urban population of Pakistan by 10% to 12%. The ratio of increase in water in the urban areas is more than that. According to international standard, the urban areas need 50 cubic meters of water per head annually or 30 gallon per head on daily basis.

Swat has been inhabited for over two thousand years. The first inhabitants were settled in well-planned towns. In 327 BC, Alexander the Great fought his way to Udegram and Barikot and stormed their battlements. In Greek accounts these towns have been identified as Ora and Bazira. Around the 2nd century BC, the area was occupied by Buddhists, who were attracted by the peace and serenity of the land. There are many remains that testify to their skills as sculptors and architects. In the beginning of the 11th century AD, Mahmud of Ghazni advanced through Dir and invaded Swat, defeating Gira, the local ruler, near Udegram. Later the land was taken over by the Dilazak, who in turn were ousted by the Yusufzais. The originator of the present family of Swat was the Muslim saint Abdul Ghafoor, a Safi Momand of Hazara district, from where he went to Buner territory. He was a pious man and the people respected him so greatly that they called him AKHUND SAHIB.[2] It was the mid-19th century when Muslim tribes were fighting against each other for the possession of Swat Valley. On the intervention of the honourable Akhund Sahib, the killing was stopped, and such was his influence that the chiefs of all tribes unanimously made him the ruler of the valley. Akhund Sahib administrated the valley according to Muslim laws. Peace and tranquility prevailed, and agriculture and trade flourished in the territory. Akhund Sahib had two sons by his wife, who belonged to Nikbi Khel. After the death of Akhund Sahib, the tribal chiefs again started fighting and killing, which continued for years. Eventually the tribal chiefs agreed to give the control of the valley into the hands of the honourable Gul Shahzada Abdul Wadood, the son of Mian Gul Abdul Khaliq, son of Akhund Sahib. The wife of Mian Abdul Wadood was the daughter of Honorable Mirza Afzal-ul-Mulk, the ruler of Chitral. The British by trick put Chitral under the suzerainty of Kashmir. The Chitral ruler gave two horses every year to the Rajia of Kashmir, and the Raja provided Chitral with grain and sugar, etc. Swat thus went under protection of the British.
