In our latest travel video we showcase 21 things to do in the capital city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada in this top attractions travel guide.
Fredericton is a city that offers culture vultures numerous historic buildings and attractions including top notch museums. For the adventure traveler or sports enthusiast extensive bike trails and the St John River offer endless exercise opportunities.
This summer we travelled out to Fredericton, New Brunswick to visit family. With a few weeks in town, we decided to make a little video guide to give you a taste of Atlantic Canada. Here's a look at 21 things you can do around the city:
1) Changing of the Guard
2) Haunted Hike at night
3) Kayaking the Saint John River
4) Government House
5) King's Landing
6) Old Train Bridge (Walking Bridge)
7) Waterloo Row
8) Farmers Market
9) Biking along the Nashwaak Trail
10) Odell Park
11) Highland Games
12) Historic Garrison District
13) Christ Church Cathedral
14) Legislative Building
15) Beaverbrook Art Gallery
16) Exercise along the St John River
17) Fine Art Gallery 78
18) Lighthouse on the Green
19) Science East
20) University of New Brunswick Campus
21) The Playhouse
Visiting King's Landing was like travelling back in time. We got to see the interior of old homes, churches, and barns from the 1800s, and for those looking to get their hands dirty, there was the option of pitching in with some of the farm work. The garrison district is the historic and cultural heart of Fredericton. This is where you can catch free performances, join heritage walking tours, and watch the changing of the guard. The Lighthouse on the Green stands on the banks of the St. John River. Though it once helped guide fishermen to shore, today the lighthouse is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy some seafood or even cool down with an ice cream. The nice thing about Fredericton is that you're never too far from nature. The city has many walking trails and biking paths that are easily accessible, and that means people spend a lot of time outdoors.
This former railway bridge is now popular with pedestrians. It has great views of the St. John River and the 2 university campuses that sit up on the hill. Waterloo Row is one of the prettiest streets in the city. It is lined with historic homes and mansions that look over the river. If you happen to be in town over the weekend, be sure to check out the Farmers' Market for some delicious eats!
The Nashwaak Trail is part of an extensive trail system and it's great for either walking or biking. We managed to spot quite a bit of wildlife during our outing, including a Great Blue Heron, a beaver, and lots of chipmunks. Gallery 78 is the oldest private art gallery in New Brunswick and it hosts exhibitions throughout the year. Christ Church Cathedral has a very active music schedule. During the summer months they host choirs and recitals. Admission is by donation with the proceeds going back into the community. The Legislative Building is the home to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. Guided visits must be arranged in advance. For art lovers, there's the option of visiting the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. This gallery features the work of both Canadian and international artists. Odell Park is a massive park located in the middle of Fredericton. It has many trails that run through the forest and some of the trees there are believed to be over 400 years old. It's a nice green escape and the perfect place to exercise in the summer. The changing of the guard is a ceremony not to be missed. You can watch guards re-enact a drill ceremony to the beat of a piper and drummer. For a spooky look at the city's past, you can join a haunted hike that takes you on a walking tour of Fredericton after dark. Expect to meet lots of ghostly characters along the way. The best way to experience the St. John River is by going out on the water. If you drop by Second Nature Outdoors, you can rent kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards. This is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, and it's where foreign dignitaries visiting Fredericton stay. This former jail turned science centre is a fun place for children. The university of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University have a shared campus with beautiful grounds. Even if you're not a student, the campus is worth a visit. If you're looking to catch a performance, then head down to the Playhouse. They host all sorts of music, dance, and theatre productions. And that's a little glimpse of Fredericton. We really enjoyed our summer visit to the city, and we hope you'll have the chance to check it out too!

In this episode of Keep it Canada, Matty heads to New Brunswick to hang out with his close friend and spirit animal: Chef Jesse Vergen.
Jesse takes Matty to visit his family's driving range, where he's built an incredible roadside BBQ restaurant. We also meet with Cornel Ceapa, a man who has devoted his life to sturgeon and the decadent caviar they produce.
Matty then takes his mother and aunt—who grew up in New Brunswick—for a giant pile of fried seafood. At the end of it all, Jesse and Matty respectfully slaughter a lamb on Jesse's farm to serve to Matty and Jesse's families, along with Cornel and his wife.

This includes a goal from Sanchez and Fuentes.
Undefeated Zebras Roll Past Barons, 7-2

In the fourth minute, midfielder, Raul Galindo powered in the first goal of the match. Forward, Kevin Sanchez intercepted a goal-kick from the Baron center half, drove into the right side of the box and took a shot on goal. Defender, Penrod was there for the stop, causing the ball to deflect up the middle. Next, coming in like a thief in the night, Galindo rushed from the Zebra half to take the ball and drill it past goalkeeper, Parker into the left side of the goal. To celebrate, Galindo performed his unique 'run into the corner flag and fall down' celebration.
Two minutes later, Kelvin Ortiz began a beautiful play at midfield by sending a pass to center-midfielder, Arlin Martinez, who laid off a pass up field to Sarmiento on the right wing. Delivering it inside the box, Sanchez caught it and then faked a shot for a no-look pass, which went left to Ortiz. Ortiz, who started the play at midfield, was now six yards away to give a right footed chip into the right side of the goal. Zebras 2-0.
Only needing four touches, the Zebras scored off a play which started from their own goal-kick. After being taken by Santos, Zarate leaped into the air like a salmon swimming upstream at the edge of the semicircle in the Baron half to put a head to it. Going over to Sanchez in the center, he immediately gave it back to Zarate, who then blazed past the Baron's back line and struck home the third goal of the game. Zebras 3-0.
Starting another play at midfield near the left sideline, Ortiz intercepted a header by Baron defender, Gangemi. With it, he lobbed a pass up to Sanchez who then won the ball off the bounce against center back, Magera. Far left inside the box, Sanchez cut into the middle to create space from Gangemi, and hammered away a shot in between three Baron defenders. Zebras 4-0.
Starting off the second half like they did at the end of the first, the Barons came out with a fire, determined to score. Receiving a pass from Magera's goal-kick, midfielder, Fuentes took the ball straight down the pitch, raced past defenders and struck in the Barons' first goal of the game. Zebras 4-1.
Killing the moment the Barons created, Sarmiento strung in a pass to Sanchez to connect for their fifth goal four minutes later.
In the 62nd minute from the Baron's center half, captain, Luzuriaga delivered a superlative pass which landed out in front of Fuentes. On the run, Fuentes cut back inside, and within a triangle of Zebra defenders, he grounded the ball out of the goalkeeper's reach for his second goal of the game. Zebras 6-2.
The Barons seemed rejuvenated as they were able to connect for a second goal, the most the Zebras have let up this season in a single game. However, failing to score on a strong surge up field, the Zebras scored off a counterattack which resulted in a hat-trick for Sanchez. Stealing it on the right sideline, Sanchez drove down inside the box, and with two defenders on his back, he pounded a shot into the left side of the goal for the final score of the game.
When asked about the game plan against Woodbridge, coach Jimmy said "The strategy is always the same. We stress passing the ball, moving, space, working the wing play, passing on the ground, through-balls, playing good defense, pressuring...it's always the same."
When asked about the teams' overall performance, Zarate, Galindo, and Martinez mentioned how they started off strong, but got sloppy later on. They also talked about how the field gives them trouble at time, which is why they are excited to play on their new turf field for the first time this Saturday.
Coach Jimmy later responded "We gave up to two goals, which to teams it's probably not a big thing, but to us it's a big thing...the field doesn't help as well, but we got the job done and it was a good game. I'm proud of them."
Both teams will play this Thursday at 4:00pm. New Brunswick will host the Perth Amboy Panthers (3-2-1) while Woodbridge will travel to take on the Edison Eagles (2-4-0).

Travel video about destination New England.
The city of Plymouth is the beginning of a journey through the north eastern region of America, New England, which is where the first European settlers landed in the 17th century after stepping off the Mayflower. The ‘Plimouth Plantation’ is a reconstruction of the Pilgrim Fathers’ original settlement, with ‘settlers’ in original costume going about their daily routine. In the centre of Boston, Copley Square features the Trinity Church which contrasts with the modern Hancock Tower that dominates the skyline and Park Street Church was where, in 1829, William Garrison gave his first anti-slavery speech. In the adjacent Granary Burial Ground some of America’s most famous sons are buried, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. Portsmouth is a quaint little harbour town at the mouth of the Piscataqua River in which the fishing harbour still plays an important role and pretty brick houses are gems of colonial architecture that remain untainted by tourism. Brunswick is a deceptively small town situated at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The main attraction of this 270 year old town is Bowdoin College in which theologian Calvin Stowe taught, husband of Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The fishing town of Rockland is one of the largest exporters of lobster in the USA. There’s nowhere better to enjoy fresher, tastier and more varied seafood than on this part of the coast. Indeed, three quarters of American lobsters and other fish are prepared here. Established in 1919, Acadia National Park extends across most of Mount Desert Island and it was private individuals, particularly the billionaire John Rockefeller, who gifted this land to the State. It is now a collection of conservation areas that assures the preservation of this unique East Coast combination of lakes and mountains. New England is the traditional face of the United States…and the heart of America’s past.

If you want to experience a Canadian city with a bit of French flair, then you need to visit Quebec City.
Situated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, this is a town with good looks and a big heart.
We only had a day and a half there, but that was enough time to wander the cobbled streets, catch some street performances, and visit many of the top attractions.
The following is a little video of our time in historic Quebec City, Canada highlighting the top 10 things to do and see in this top attractions travel guide:
1) Plains of Abraham
We are no standing on the Plains of Abraham and this is the location where the battle between the English and the French was fought. This was the battle that ultimately determined the fate of North America.
This battle was part of the Seven Years' War and it would be the deciding factor over the fate of New France, influencing the later creation of Canada.
2) Citadelle
We just finished visiting the Citadelle and if you get the chance I would suggest you try to be here by ten in the morning. That is when they have the changing of the guard ceremony and it is a lot of fun to watch. They even have a pet goat that takes part so it really is a lot of fun.
The Citadelle is the largest British fortress in North America.
3) Chateau Frontenac
Now we're visiting Chateau Frontenac, one of the most famous hotels in all of Canada. It is a stunner. It is just absolutely beautiful. We're trying to capture it from different vantage points.
The hotel was designed by American architect Bruce Price. It was one of many "château" style hotels built for the Canadian Pacific Railway company with the goal of promoting luxury tourism. Today, a night at the Frontenac starts at $379 dollars.
4) Terrasse Dufferin
This boardwalk that we are currently standing on is called Terrasse Dufferin and it is a great place for a stroll. You can catch some street performers, eat some ice cream and you also get some great views of the river below.
The promenade sits right outside the Chateau Frontenac and it is 425 meters in length. You can also catch a funicular nearby which takes you to the Old Lower Town.
5) Quartier Petit Champlain
Petit Champlain is a neighbourhood located in the Old Lower Town. It is quite picturesque, especially when viewed from the Breakneck Stairs. The narrow cobbled streets are lined with small shops and cafes. It's a really fun neighbourhood to explore with a camera in hand.
6) Basilica Notre Dame de Quebec
The Basilica Notre Dame de Quebec is the oldest church in the Americas north of Mexico. If you want to get a sneak peek at the crypt, you'll have to sign up for a guided tour.
7) Rue St. Paul
We're now walking along Rue St. Paul and this is a great place to browse for antiques and you can buy some souvenirs.
Just don't leave your visit to the end of the day because you may find that a lot of the shops have closed.
8) Museum of Civilization
The Museum of Civilization is a great place to learn about the Aboriginal peoples of Quebec.
9) Port of Quebec
We're here now in the Port Area. This is a great place to take a ferry. A lot of people come here to exercise, to fish and just to enjoy the views of the St. Lawrence river. It is a really relaxing place.
The Port of Quebec is the oldest in all of Canada and it played an important role in developing the region. Today you'll find that cruises have replaced much of the former freight traffic.
10) Catch a Street Performance
And lastly, you can't come to Quebec City and not catch a street performance! The city celebrates its performers and you'll often find acts taking place in the town square and parks. Grab a seat for some live entertainment and don't forget to leave a tip at the end!
And that concludes our brief but very enjoyable trip to Quebec City! We hope that you enjoyed this video and that it will help inspire your Canadian travels.

Zebras Run Wild Over Mustangs, 6-0
Sept. 15 - The New Brunswick Zebras hosted the visiting John F. Kennedy Mustangs in a GMC white division matchup on Tuesday, improving their record to 3-0 on the season. Heading into the game, New Brunswick (3-0-0) had previously defeated Colonia and Sayreville with the same score of 4-1, while JFK (1-3-0) was coming off a tough home loss to South Plainfield by a score of 3-2. For the first time on the season, JFK could not produce a goal, as New Brunswick connected for a season high of six times.
In the opening stages of the game, neither team seemed to have opportunities to strike. Little by little, the Zebras began getting their chances as their team possessed the ball for what appeared to be 90 percent of the time. In the 28th minute, midfielder, Sarmiento, stole the ball from Miranda, and passed it to midfielder, Galindo. Quickly, Galindo gave it back to Sarmiento between two defenders, sent it to Sanchez, who also split a pass through two defenders off to Zarate. Zarate found himself straight on to goal peeling the defense, and fired it right past goalkeeper, Sandor for the first goal of the game. An excellent give and go passing routine with the use of quick touches, which went in a direct path straight down the pitch.
A minute later, Sanchez settled a ball coming down in the air on the right sideline. With it, he took it himself, was pressured by three Mustangs defenders, went into the box, and blasted a cannon of a shot into the left up 90s. Golaaaaaaazzzzooooo! 2-0 Zebras.
In the 39th minute, Sanchez sent in a cross inside the box from the Mustangs center half. Kicked out by Mendez, Sarmiento caught the rebound at the semi circle from outside the box, settled it, then rifled it into the left side of the goal. 3-0 Zebras at the half.
The second half started off much like the first half, this time the Mustangs came out slightly more aggressive, attempting shots far from goal. The Zebras, however limited their shots by dominating the ball and created shots of their own. This can be highly credited to their center midfielder, Arlin Martinez who was the orchestrator on the field, delivering crisp passes all game long. In the 57th minute, Kelvin Ortiz ran up the left sideline, rushing past the Mustangs' defense. Drawing defender, he gave it off to Zarate who was wide open inside the box for another easy goal. Zebras 4-0.
In the 66th minute, goalkeeper, Inestroza punted the ball far down field. From a header in the midfield, Guzman caught the ball and laid it off to Solano, who then gave it right back to him. Inside the box on the left side, Guzman took a shot and was able to connect for their fifth goal of the match.
In the 76th minute, Sanchez found the back of the net once again. He received a pass from Sarmiento on the left wing, took a shift over to the right to be center at the 18 yard line, and hit a ground ball to the left corner to stay out of Sandor's reach. Zebras with a sound, fundamental team effort for the victory, certainly looking like favorites to win the division.
When asked about his team's performance, coach Castillo felt his team played very well, sticking to the game plan on passing and shooting to gel as a team. He mentioned how using their speed is a strength they look to use, being that they do not have a tall team. With an undefeated start to the season, he is optimistic his team can achieve their goal of improving their record of 13-5 last year, winning the division, and a GMC title.
The Zebras all-state midfielder William Rojas was sidelined to due to a right ankle injury in the previous game. JFK has still been without one of their leading goal scorers from last season, Johnny Evangeluo.
Both teams play next this Thursday. The Zebras will travel to take the South Plainfield Tigers, while the Mustangs will visit the Perth Amboy Panthers.
