The two children closest to the explosion were killed instantly. Another died later from shrapnel wounds en route to the hospital.
Police said the victims were aged between 12 and 14.
Gladys Quipse, spokeswoman for the Hipolito Unanue Hospital, said most of the injured children and teenagers had shrapnel wounds and burns.
In January, four children were killed and three others injured when a grenade exploded in a campfire in Peru's central jungle.
In that accident police said children had built a campfire and were throwing things into it when apparently one tossed the grenade into the flames.

The site lies on the planned route of a mega-infrastructure project, the Via Parque Rimac. This proposes to expand and re-route the motorway underground, beneath the River Rimac. The riverbanks will in turn be transformed into a green oasis within the city - and Cantagallo into public parkland.
Relocation threatens the communities of all three districts, with some evictions even happening while the students were conducting their research. This video tells the story through the eyes of the students at the DPU.

Thousands of Peruvians gather to celebrate the day of their patron saint
Thousands Peruvians visited the house of Saint Rose of Lima on Thursday and entered into the tradition of writing letters to her and dropping them in the 'well of wishes.'
August 30 marks Saint Rose of Lima Day in Peru and it is observed annually as a public holiday.
Saint Rose, born Isabel Flores in Lima, lived in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century and was canonised by the Catholic Church in 1671.
In 2010, the Peruvian Catholic church created a profile on the social media site Facebook for Saint Rose so now faithful throughout the world who cannot travel to Lima may instead post their wishes online.
A priest prints them out and deposits them into the well.
Many of the faithful write their letters to ask Saint Rose for help, but Dora Reyes who was able to visit Saint Rose's home says she wrote a letter to say thank you.
"To thank her for all the good that has happened, and for the bad as well, to be able to cope with it," Reyes said.
The faithful also gathered around the Saint Rose of Lima statue near the well to pray.
Lima suspended traffic near the home of Saint Rose, now a monastery near the banks of the Rimac River in downtown Lima, to allow easier travel for the thousands of visitors expected.

PERU: EL NINO WEATHER PHENOMENON FORCES FOOD PRICES TO RISE
Spanish/Nat
Food prices in Lima, Peru, rose on Wednesday following four days of torrential rain and landslides which have blocked supplies to the capital.
The city faces further price hikes and food shortages as freak weather attributed to the so-called El Nino weather phenomenon continues.
The El Nino - caused by warm currents off the Pacific coast - first took hold in December and has caused more than 70 deaths, say civil defense officials.
The threat of food rationing looms large over Lima, capital of Peru, where staple food supplies are growing scarce.
Peru remains in the grips of the El Nino - a freak climate change caused by warm Pacific Ocean currents off the west coast.
Four days of heavy rain this week have resulted in nine people drowned and several more missing, according to civil defense officials.
Torrential rain has hampered food supplies to Lima, with arterial roads leading into the city blocked by landslides and floods.
Trucks from the agriculturally rich interior are unable to pass.

Two major highways in Peru have been badly hit in the last two days, stranding hundreds of vehicles.
On Sunday, the La Leche (The Milk) river flooded the Pan American Highway 520 miles (820 kms) northwest of Lima, in Lambayeque province.
It has remained blocked ever since.
The Central Highway linking Lima to Peru's central highlands partially reopened on Monday after the Rimac River flooded 50 miles (80 kms) east of Lima.

Peru is the third largest country in South America with a population of around 30 million. Lima alone has 10 million and is a massive city more often than not shrouded in a misty foggy cloud due to the very unusual weather pattern on the very dry desert like topography on the western side of the Andes. The Pan American highway goes along this side which is nearly 2200kms from north to south. The Eastern side of the Andes is lush and mostly Amazonian but the roads are terrible and so are the insects and humidity.

Lima: Fantastic Tour Of The Beautiful And Exotic Capital Of Peru, Adventure In Lima
Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a desert coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of Callao, it forms a contiguous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area. With a population fast approaching 9 million, Lima is the fifth largest city in Latin America, behind Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Lima has been defined as a beta world city.
Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as La Ciudad de los Reyes, or "The City of Kings." It became the capital and most important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru. Following the Peruvian War of Independence, it became the capital of the Republic of Peru. Today, around one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area.
Its now considered the gastronomic capital of the continent, with Peruvians proud to show off their unique cuisine.
Dozens of restaurants serve the national dish ceviche, using lime juice to cook raw fish and seafood.. Its also the birthplace of the novo andino movement that combines ancient Inca ingredients with the latest trends in high cuisine, and Lima now has the most cooking schools of any city in the world, with trainee chefs eager to learn the trade.
A string of gardens connect the financial, cultural and tourist areas of the city, leading down to the Parque del Amor at the top of cliffs overlooking the beaches and rolling surf of the Pacific coastline.
Paragliders float over the heads of surfers and fishermen who brave the rich cool waters of the Humboldt current for its abundant seafood.
Located on Perus central coast, Lima was founded by Conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and was originally known as the City of Kings.
Colonial and Republican architecture adorn its streets plazas and churches, from the Cathedral and Presidential Palace on the main square, to the convent and catacombs of nearby San Francisco.
UNESCO declared Limas historic center a World Heritage Site in 1988.
The city guards its pre-Columbian past. The pyramids of Pucllana seem to sprout up from the heart of a wealthy suburb, and the mud city of Pachacamac lies a short distance away on the southern edge of Lima.
These ancient monuments stand in contrast to the cutting edge skyscrapers in the financial district.
And at the and we can see the famous color party in Lima.
Hope you will enjoy this video as much as I have.
Have a nice day.

During our Adventures by Disney trip, we visited the Pisac market; a Peruvian market that has existed since before the Incas. One of the businesses on the edge of the market, the Blue Llama, contains a hidden Mickey! Disney traditions have found their way to Peru!
What is a hidden Mickey?
A Hidden Mickey is a representation of Mickey Mouse that has been inserted subtly into the design of a ride, attraction, or other location in a Disney theme park, Disney properties, movie or other Disney product. The most common Hidden Mickey is a formation of three circles that may be perceived as the silhouette of the head and ears of Mickey Mouse, often referred to by Disney aficionados as a "Classic Mickey". Over time, the term Hidden Mickey has come to refer to a range of possibilities from a more complete representation of Mickey Mouse (such as Mickey mixed in with a crowd or in the background), or a representation of another character (such as the huge hidden Jafar at the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail in Africa in the Animal Kingdom). Hidden Mickeys are found in various Disney media, such as animated films, feature length movies, TV series, or the Disney theme parks. Mickeys may be painted, made up of objects (such as rocks, or three plates on a table), or be references such as someone wearing Mickey Mouse Club ears in a painting. Hidden Mickeys can take on many sizes and forms.
Hidden Mickeys are slipped into animation cels in many Disney animated classics. They are also hidden in architecture and attractions in Disney parks and resorts, and in studio buildings and many other Disney-related features.

Peru Overland
Peru is the third largest country in South America with a population of around 30 million. Lima alone has 10 million and is a massive city more often than not shrouded in a misty foggy cloud due to the very unusual weather pattern on the very dry desert like topography on the western side of the Andes. The Pan American highway goes along this side which is nearly 2200kms from north to south. The Eastern side of the Andes is lush and mostly Amazonian but the roads are terrible and so are the insects and humidity.
We left Lake Titicaca which straddles both Bolivia and Peru and travelled through two cities on the lake. One of them, Juliaca must be one of the most horrible cities we have ever seen. Large wide streets, all dusty and sandy with low rise brick buildings all in a state of lookng like they have not been completed but we since learnt that this is intentional because there is less tax to pay until they are completed. I would have thought there should be less tax to pay for a few years after they are completed, not before, in order to encourage the owners to complete them. (Juliaco is also renowned apparently, for being the place where most of the cocaine is trafficked). So of course Peru is full of unfinished properties, a bit like Turkey which has a similar law I believe. Of course the centre of most cities look very pretty as you see with the photos below. Outside of the centre's it is a very different story.
Arequipa was a city we did like and was full of lovely old Spanish architecture. We stayed there for about five weeks at the Wayra River Hostel which had a kitchen we could use so that is always a plus to avoid eating out. Everyday was sunny and warm but the nights were chilly. Finally we were at a much lower altitude so breathing was normal again. We kept busy with movies and internet at night and some lovely walks during the days.
We then took off up north, missing out on Cusco and Machu Picchu because the costs of all of that was out of the question for us and besides we were so sick of everyone talking about the place. We are generally disappointed with the so called seven wonders of the world as they have become so touristy and the last thing we like is being amongst all those camera fanatics paying silly money for so little in return. There is the customary photo of it below however.
We were heading for the northern seaside town of Mancora which we heard was a good place, well apart from the constant south westerly wind it was OK. We visited the mega city of Lima on the way and it was very nice around the centre as usual but the outskirts looked like a shambles and the drivers were a nightmare. Because of the cloudy weather we did not stay long, oh yes and it was a bit cool as well, but then anything under 30 degrees is below our desired temperature.
So we arrived in Mancora and spent over three months there because we found a nice apartment which was luxury by our standards and well within our budget at £15 per night. It was nice to have somewhere we could call home for awhile as constant travelling does wear you down a bit.
We leave here on the 28th of December and head for Ecuador for maybe three months then Colombia for a further 3 months before heading up to central America for about a year.

PERU: LIMA: 3 CHILDREN DIE AFTER PULLING PIN ON GRENADE
Spanish/Nat
Three children have been killed in Lima, Peru, after they accidentally pulled the pin on a grenade in a crowded poultry market.
They were playing with the device - which they found on the banks of the Rimac River - when the tragedy took place.
One other person died and at least 12 more were injured in the blast.
The grenade went off in a popular market in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district Friday afternoon.
It's thought the children found the grenade on one of the banks of the city's Rimac river.
They were playing with the device when one of them started pulling at the detonator ring.
SOUNDBITE:(Spanish)
"It looked like a ball with a ring. We started playing with it. Pablo said 'Don't pull it ! Don't pull it ! But he did, and it went 'boom!'"
SUPER CAPTION: Jacqueline Zapana, friend of dead children
The two children closest to the explosion were killed instantly. Another died later from shrapnel wounds en route to the hospital.
Police said the victims were aged between 12 and 14.
Gladys Quipse, spokeswoman for the Hipolito Unanue Hospital, said most of the injured children and teenagers had shrapnel wounds and burns.
In January, four children were killed and three others injured when a grenade exploded in a campfire in Peru's central jungle.
In that accident police said children had built a campfire and were throwing things into it when apparently one tossed the grenade into the flames.

Plaza Mayor o Plaza de Armas Lima, Peru- 036
The Main Square or Plaza de Armas is the main public space of the city and is located in the heart of the Historic Center of Lima. With the arrival of the Spanish forces , and after the conquest of Tawantinsuyu , it needed a place to establish the capital of Spanish rule in South America, and the Rimac Valley was the perfect place for its good climate , crops and its proximity to mar.Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima on January 18, 1535. Today it is surrounded by the headquarters of the major powers of the country and the city: the Government Palace seat of the Executive Branch, the Municipal Palace, seat of local government , the Cathedral of Lima and the Archbishop's Palace, headquarters of Sacred Power.. A remarkable element of this space is the pool made of bronze , located in the central part, is decorated fitomorfos elements and zoomorphic and flanked by cherubim , seraphim , shell Mera, nymphs their tongues , acanthus leaves , scrolls and flippers to mark the cardinal points. It also carries the coat of arms of the City of Kings .
