One of the greatest mass processions in America took place during the month of October, the procession of the Lord of Miracles, Patron of Peru.The procession journeys through all the streets of Lima; it began in the 17th century after it was portrayed by an indigenous slave, so tradition maintains.The image of the so-called Christ of Pachacamilla is carried on the shoulders of 32 members of the fraternity of devotees that wear purple tunics like the other thousands of followers.There are also the "sahumadoras" women who with their heads covered with a mantilla, recite religious litanies and distribute incense.Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima, said in a communiqué of the Archbishopric of Lima that "the Lord of Miracles is like a faithful friend, the man who stands at our side in a time of trouble, who is with us in illness, who accompanies us in moments of pain, who in a time of need is there to rescue us from distress."

www.expatperu.com The Lord of Miracles was painted by an anonymous slave from Angola in 1651 and represents Christ crucified on the cross. It is located in Lima, Peru, and is venerated by Peruvians all over the world. Every October a procession of more than a million believers accompanies the image as it is carried through the streets of Lima. It is one of the biggest processions in the world, lead by 25000 members of The Lord of Miracles brotherhood. These leaders are organized into 20 groups and each group walks 300 meters of the procession. The main days of the procession are the 18th, 19th and 28th of October and the route taken is generally through downtown Lima.

On Thursday 21 September 2006 the news swept around the world of the extraordinary miracles of milk-drinking Hindu statues. The Circle Maramma Temple at 18th cross is very famous. New vehicles queue up for pooja every Friday. Kanchi Mutt, Kashi Mutt, and the Chitrapur Mutt are also located in Malleswaram. Malleswaram also has monasteries and trees which are more than 80 years old. Kannika Parameshwari Temple on 8th cross was built by the Arya Vaisya community in Malleswaram.
