Seven years ago John Wells sold his heavily-mortgaged home in upstate New York and bought 40 acres in West Texas for $8000. The area (Brewster County) is so isolated there are no codes or zoning restrictions so Wells built his own tiny home (in 9 days with $1600) relying on his set-building experience.

We kept as much off road as practical, while driving from Big Bend Ranch State Park, along Hen Egg Road/North Country Road near Terlingua, and through parts of Big Bend National Park. While it would have been nice to make this traverse in one direction headed across this fascinating region, it proved necessary to drive out, explore an area, then doube back on the route we had taken out. We camped the entire time, depending on our vehicles for not only travel, but living accommodations as well. This part of the video covers our adventures in Big Bend Ranch State Park, and along Hen Egg Road/North County Road. The music is "The Creek" by Topher Mohr and Alex Elena (available on YouTube as an online YouTube enhancement from Google).

Experiments with adaptative urbanism in West Texas ghost town
A century ago, Terlingua, Texas was a bustling mining town (by 1922 it was supplying the nation with 40% of its quicksilver needs for gunpowder), but in the 1940s the mine closed and the place emptied out. For decades, it was a ghost town and then in the 1980’s it was bought by one owner with dreams of restoration.
Mimi Webb Miller has spent most of her adult life living in tiny towns in West Texas and just across the border in Mexico. She knew the town’s owner and 20 years ago, he told her she could build her home on one of the ruins. “There was just one room. It wasn’t even a room it was a doorway and a box sitting on some rocks. So the rocks were left, the adobe was all gone. So I started building in ‘96 and very quickly had a home.”
After she had a home, she decided to keep rebuilding and soon had turned five more ruins into a guesthouse and coffee shop. She says there were no rules for building when she got her start in town, but more recently, the county has stepped in with one request. “I think they’re starting to say no new outhouses. I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it’s worded… you know we have more people so you do have to have more rules.” The population of Terlingua at the 2010 census was 58.

In 1841, it was simply a plan of 20 streets on the 256 hectares (640 acres) of south central America, claimed by a Tennessee lawyer, John Neely Bryan. Today, it is the ninth largest city in the USA, and including its western neighbour of Fort Worth, it is the nation's fastest growing metropolitan area.

The capital of Texas attracts a number of young, talented university students, which has prompted a good-natured culture war between the newcomers and the city’s longtime residents. So far, the latter group seems to be winning, thanks to their dedication to the Keep Austin Weird campaign. You’ll find elements of this movement throughout the city in the shape of various art installations, eclectic eateries, and murals.
An Austin tour means an adventure in the Live Music Capital of the World, home to festivals celebrating all kinds of tunes. Whether you’re here to listen to blues, country, or

Welcome to Houston, Texas, one of the largest cities in the United States.
Once an outpost in the Old West, Houston is now a down-to-earth metropolis, boasting a tremendous shipping and energy industry, as well as plenty of culture.
Kick off your Houston tour at Discovery Green, a 12-acre park tucked beneath the city’s skyscrapers. You’ll find public art and plenty of space to picnic or go for walks. Houstoners take pride in their various parks, museums, and open spaces, like the Houston Arboretum, where you can go birdwatching, learn about green living, and hike the trails to explore local wildlife.
Speaking of exploring, your Houston sightseeing should include a trip to the USS Texas., This battleship served in two World Wars and now stands guard as a museum on the Buffalo Bayou. Head over to the Gulf for a walk on the beach while you watch the sunset, then get ready to gear up for the evening with some delicious TexMex shared with the locals. After you lose yourself in a few rounds of line dancing to burn off all those fajitas, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t come to Houston earlier.

Dallas - Texas - United States Travel guide http://goo.gl/tLsKrZ
Dallas is a young city with all the vigour of youth. Effigies of modern architecture rise like glass trees out of the downtown area.
Thriving at the bottom edge of America's Great Plains, Dallas has embraced dreamers and entrepreneurs for the better part of two centuries. Big D, as it's affectionately called, merges Southern hospitality with modern sophistication. Though the landscape looks different than at its humble beginning, the city still welcomes enterprising people who gather to share their grand ideas and stake claims on new frontiers.
Dallas will always be remembered for one, if not two, shootings. The first and most shocking occurred on 22 November 1963, when President J F Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas. The second shooting may only have been fictional but, when J R Ewing was shot by an unknown killer in the TV series Dallas in the early 1980s, fans across the world were devastated. Even today, the legend of J R remains strong, as does the legacy of President Kennedy.
Today the city is a mecca for the banking, electronics and oil industries, as well as for dining, shopping, arts and entertainment. Large scale developments of urban lofts, apartments, condominiums, retail and both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities are springing up across the city. An impressive new Dallas Center for the Performing Arts opened in 2009 to vie with New York's Lincoln Center. New facilities and relevant attractions in and around this cultural centre continue to grow.
Among things you probably didn't know about Dallas: The city has the largest urban arts district in the United States spanning 19 blocks. What's more, the Dallas Arts District has more buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects in one contiguous location than anywhere else in the world. And Dallas' Fair Park, just a short distance east of the arts district and a district with numerous museums and venues, features the nation's largest collection of 1930s Art Deco, exposition-style architecture.
Dallas offers true Southern hospitality, be it in a humble hideaway cocktail bar or in the Mansion on Turtle Creek, repeatedly and regularly ranked as one of the world's top hotels. And with a 10th of its workforce in the hospitality industry, Dallas is always happy to have y'all come on in and stick around awhile.
Those wishing to explore further afield should take the busy freeway 30 miles to the west to the easy-going, cattle-driving, twin city of Fort Worth, home to a national historic district and a surprising stash of world-class art museums.
The similarities between the two include a stunning rate of business and population growth, in spite of a sluggish recent economy; a shared passion for the pro sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, whose new billion-dollar stadium is now in Tarrant County instead of Dallas; and a great pride in being Texan.

Austin Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Welcome to Austin, home to nearly 900,000 people.
Whether you’re here to listen to blues, country, or a little bit of rockabilly, you’re bound to find exactly what your musical palette desires in this quirky town.
Austin is proud of its citizens, and throughout the city you’ll find monuments of ranchers, prominent musicians, and Civil War heroes. Many of these monuments are located in Austin’s numerous parks, making it an excellent place to get in touch with nature. If relaxing by a fountain seems a little too bohemian for you, visit South Congress Avenue. “SoCo” is a veritable paradise anyone who loves vintage threads and just the right amount of “weird” that makes Austin unique.
Don’t worry about keeping yourself fed – as you’ll notice in your Austin sightseeing adventure, you’ll find a food truck on every street, and bistros, cafes, and restaurants just waiting for you to dive in and sample their culinary offerings.
Whether you’re here for music, food, or to take in the local art scene, you’ll find no shortage of things to do in downtown Austin. Have you been to any of its famous festivals?
Visit our Austin travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation!

San Antonio ~ Texas ~ Discover San Antonio ~ Travel Guide
San Antonio ~ Texas ~ Discover San Antonio ~ Travel Guide
officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populous city in the United States of America and the second most populous city in the state of Texas, with a population of 1,409,019.[1] It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000.[4][5] The city is located in the American Southwest, the south–central part of Texas, and the southwestern corner of an urban region known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County. The city has characteristics of other western urban centers in which there are sparsely populated areas and a low density rate outside of the city limits. San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of over 2.27 million based on the 2013 US Census estimate, making it the 25th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in the state of Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is on June 13, by a 1691 Spanish expedition in the area. It is notable for Spanish colonial missions, the Alamo, the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks, and the city is visited by approximately 26 million tourists per year, according to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau. The city is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the country.
The US armed forces have numerous facilities in San Antonio: Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base (which constitute Joint Base San Antonio), and Lackland AFB/Kelly Field Annex, with Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley located outside the city. Kelly Air Force Base operated out of San Antonio until 2001, when the airfield was transferred to Lackland AFB. The remaining portions of the base were developed as Port San Antonio, an industrial/business park. San Antonio is home to six Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the only medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.

The rugged land of Texas’ Big Bend region is legendary. Towering mountains, austere desert, canyons, and rivers converge in a place of beauty, loneliness, and adventure. Fort Worth artist Dennis Blagg began painting landscapes from the Big Bend twenty years ago. His breathtaking, near-photorealistic portraits of this remote mountain desert are as big as the landscape itselfsome of the paintings are ten feet long and four feet wide.
Through his work, Blagg brings the viewer both the beauty and

West Texas Fair & Rodeo, Abilene Texas

Big Bend Landscapes Joe and Betty Moore Texas Art Series

The rugged land of Texas’ Big Bend region is legendary. Towering mountains, austere desert, canyons, and rivers converge in a place of beauty, loneliness, and adventure. Fort Worth artist Dennis Blagg began painting landscapes from the Big Bend twenty years ago. His breathtaking, near-photorealistic portraits of this remote mountain desert are as big as the landscape itselfsome of the paintings are ten feet long and four feet wide.
Through his work, Blagg brings the viewer both the beauty and the hostility of West Texas. Blagg has a fascination with and love for his "ever-changing" subject. "The desert represents a landscape of broken promise,” Blagg explains, yet it is a place of vast spiritual content . . . an emptiness waiting to be filled . . . the Big Bend offers many faces to be painted."
For A Desert Journal, Blagg has chosen fifty of his most powerful color paintings and twenty black-and-white drawings and has written brief comments for each, offering insight into both the art and the land it captures. Ron Tyler of the Texas State Historical Association has contributed an introductory essay on the Big Bend.

I don't always just hit ball on the range. I do flat love to play golf. I don't care where I play or whom I play with. I just love putting my peg in the ground and test myself against Ole Man Par. I do the same things on the golf course that you see me do on all those videos on You Tube that i post all the time while answering questions as I practice. You see me hitting basically just 4 shots on You Tube. I have a dead straight shot I can hit at will. I have a low dart stinger that comes

West Texas Golf Sunset CC
Golfers, this is really for the "All In, Die Hard" Straight Shootin' Golfers.
I don't always just hit ball on the range. I do flat love to play golf. I don't care where I play or whom I play with. I just love putting my peg in the ground and test myself against Ole Man Par. He's real consistent and it's always a good day when you get the best on him. I do the same things on the golf course that you see me do on all those videos on You Tube that i post all the time while answering questions as I practice. You see me hitting basically just 4 shots on You Tube. I have a dead straight shot I can hit at will. I have a low dart stinger that comes off the face of my driver a foot off the ground and goes out 250 plus and stays under the goal post. I have a little 10/12 yard draw and fade, not much more but I can hit that shot with 10 clubs and a fairly high shot. I can get a lob wedge over a telephone pole from 15 feet away. But my biggest advantage playing is I don't miss many fairways and i don't miss many greens. This day I didn't get to warm up. Excuse me that's not true I didn't warm up I just went straight to #1 and teed it up. But you'll notice I do the same thing with my pre-shot routine that i do practicing. I stand back behind the ball, I hold my club up in front of my face and mentally draw a line from where i'm standing throught the ball and all the way to where i want the ball to come to a rest as I pick out my Sky Target with the end of my club. I always like to realize just exactly how high I am going to hit that little white pill. When i stand behind the ball and pick out my line I get tunnel vision as soon as I put the toe of my club up in the air every single time. And it stays till the ball hits the ground. It started years ago when i was an NCAA Division I College Basketball Official (25 years I did that) I come to expect to get tunnel vision. Oh, I said it get Tunnel Vision as soon as I put the toe of the club up in the air. I don't know why this happens but I don't get tunnel vision putting. i don't understand what the difference is but I never have gotten tunnel vision putting even though I do basically the same routine. It just doesn't happen when i'm lining up a putt. Beats me. But it let's me know I'm focused when it happens. I did not hit my Go Pro Camera's start button a couple of times firm enough to start it so I missed a couple of drives and a couple of iron shots. One putt on #1. But this day after saying good bye to a dear friend i just wanted to clear my mind. i missed on shot. I missed on fairway and no greens. I had 9 birdie putts. Two horrible putts, but made the return, burned the lip on 4 and made two. Last putt I know it was in before it got half way there. If you will take time golfers to do the drills i show you. Practice your mental part as I show you to do so you are telling your body what to do every single swing you take you can play as consistent as I play. I promise you it's not that difficult to hit it in the fairway, hit it on the green and putt. Seriously, it really isn't. That is if and only if you are telling your body what to do on every shot. --- I guarantee it. I also guarantee you that if you don't mentally tell your body what to do. It won't work at all. That too is a promise. So for you Die Hard Straight Shooters, here's a smooth two under 34 in a steady 15 MPH wind.

The 14,000 Members Of the Gang - Tango Blast Street Gang of Texas , Documentary HD
This show looks at the Tango Blast Gang, an enormous, aggressive gang based in Houston is PROFILED both on the streets and in prison. Profiles of members from the 14,000 strong organization such as "Spider" and "Bones" are highlighted as well as perspectives from law enforcement on the gang's influence.
Puro Tango Blast, or Tango Blast, is a term used to collectively describe various regionally based gangs of generally Hispanic men from major Texas cities.
History
Incarcerated Hispanic men from major Texas cities (including Houston, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley, and West Texas) have banded together for protection from established security threat groups like Mexikanemi and the Texas Syndicate. Each regional group is individually called a Tango. The term Tango Blast, in actuality, does not refer to a separate group; rather, it refers to the idea that a particular Tango member is more criminally active than others. Some Tango members say that Tango is an acronym for "Together Against Negative Gang Organizations"; however, Tango originally meant something like 'hometown clique.
Structure
Although often referred to as a prison gang, Tango Blast is different than traditional prison gangs such as Mexikanemi and the Texas Syndicate, lacking the typically strict hierarchy of those organizations. The Texas Department of Public Safety classifies Tango Blast as a "loose affiliation" gang, with "relaxed MEMBERSHIP requirements and little to no detectable leadership hierarchy." The El Paso County sheriff's officials have noted that "there is no known formal organization of the gang on El Paso streets." While those more structured organizations, known as Security Threat Groups, will have a variety of structures, Tango members in a particular area of a correctional facility will elect a silla (Spanish for "chair"), to speak for that area of the facility. There is no consistent pathway for initiation into a Tango; rather, each individual set of Tango members determines who it admits and by what methods. One initiation method is called a "Cora Check" or a test of heart in which the potential member must engage in physical combat with 2 or more members, provided that he does not surrender during the melee he is inducted to the gang. Members are not required to perform gang activity when released from prison, making Tangos more popular among younger people.
Individual Tangos
While it is commonly believed that there are only four chapters to the gang, other regions of the state have their own Tangos. Collectively, the tangos from Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston. are known as the 4 Horsemen. Individual Tango members use regionally appropriate symbols as tattoos to identify the tango to which they belong. Generally, Tango members identify themselves by sport team logos or area codes from their home town or region. Houstone members, who are from Houston, often use the Houston Astros star. D-Town members, who are from Dallas, may use the Dallas Cowboys star, Foritos members, who are also known as Foros and are from Fort Worth, often use the 817 area code, a star with 817 in the center similar to a pentagram. ATX or La Capirucha (meaning The Capital) members, who are from Austin, may use the Texas Capitol building. These four Tangos represent the earliest Tangos to form. Other areas of Texas have their own Tangos, notably West Texas (Puro West or Wesos, often displaying 806 or 432, 23-20, the word West, or a WT in tattoos), the Valley (Vallucos), San Antonio (Orejones), Corpus Christi (Corpitos), and El Paso (Chucos or EPT).
