Vidin (Bulgarian: Видин, archaically spelled as Widdin in English) is a port town on the southern bank of the Danube in northwestern Bulgaria. It is close to the borders with Serbia and Romania, and is also the administrative centre of Vidin Province, as well as of the Metropolitan of Vidin (since 870). As of February 2011, the town has a population of 47,138 inhabitants.
An agricultural and trade centre, Vidin has a fertile hinterland renowned for its wines.
Vidin is the westernmost important Bulgarian Danube port and is situated on one of the southernmost sections of the river. A ferryboat complex, linking Vidin with Calafat on the opposite side of the river, is located 2 km from the town. The complex is to be replaced by the Vidin-Calafat Bridge probably in the year 2012.
Vidin is the 19th town by population in Bulgaria, but serious demographic problems have been experienced in the area during the last two decades. The number of the residents of the city reached its peak in the period 1988-1991 when exceeded 65,000. The following table presents the change of the population after the liberation of the country in 1878.

June 2015: I found my hard drive with this on, re-conformed it from 30p to 24p to make it look nicer and polished it a little. Nothing major, just with the retiming to 24p the edits went out so tidied them up! Added a tiny grade and a bit of film grain.
Shot over a couple of nights, taking the 5dmk2 out on the streets and getting shots of the inhabitants and visitors. No lighting, no grading. This is what came out of the camera image wise. All handheld and helped by using the Z-Finder from Zacuto to give the camera a proper viewfinder and improve stability.

At the end of the nineteenth century the city’s appearance changed from Oriental to European into a dynamic metropolis. Sofia’s historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula, the Aleksandâr Nevski Cathedral, a work of art of the Russian Orthodox religion that can accommodate a congregation of more than five thousand. Vidin is dominated by the Baba Vida Fortress whose impressive towers and bastion date back to the thirteenth century. From the banks of the Danube the north western entrances to the mediaeval realm were strictly controlled and the fortress protected it from invasion by ship. Varna is the biggest city on the Black Sea coast and is one of Europe’s oldest cities. The golden, shining domes of the impressive cathedral in the city centre are one of its main landmarks. The caves of western Rhodopes are the main destination for many of the region’s visitors, such as the Jagodina Cave that is ten kilometres long and extends up to five levels within the limestone mountains. It is the longest and deepest of the Rhodopes and its tunnels and huge galleries feature traces of prehistoric inhabitants. Bulgaria – on the border of both Occident and Orient - a country full of history and natural beauty with authentic culture and overwhelming hospitality. A colourful mixture of fascinating tribes with a large variety of tradition and, according to legend, a part of paradise that God gifted to the Bulgarian people!

HOLD ON, EARTH, VIDIN IS DANCING!
Dance Formation Mandrile, Pokrayna, Vidin, Bulgaria!
RICHMART VINTAGE project supporting the Bulgarian folklore dances and Bulgarian fashion industry, aiming to establish the brand “MADE IN BULGARIA”
THE MAGIC OF THE BULGARIAN FOLKLORE DANCE CONQUERS THE WORLD! WHY NOT?
1. Establishing the national identity! Bulgarian folklore is the richest folklore in the world in terms of rhythms.
2. Bulgarian folklore dance is one issue which can unite all the Bulgarians in the world.
3. The economic benefits of the project – using the Bulgarian folklore dance we can gain global PR and advertisement of the Bulgarian folklore, tourism and industry as a whole, which would help the establishment of the brand “MADE IN BULGARIA”. /The Bulgarians abroad are 2 million alone. If everyone participates in the project, given it takes 100 people to form traditional Bulgarian dance – that would mean 20,000 videos of Bulgarian folklore dances. Considering the creation of one video costs around 5,000 euro, that would mean the whole campaign is worth 100,000,000 euro!/
4. Bulgarian folklore dances with their unique uneven rhythms are not only Bulgarian’s fortune, but world’s as well.
5. The uneven rhythms have positive impact on the human’s health – THE ACTIVE DANCERS DO NOT SUFFER FROM CANCER OR SPINAL CURVATURE!
Given a scientific explanation, this news would attract huge interest from the whole world!
6. Establishing new Bulgarian folklore dances clubs around the world – new style in the physical activity of a person, which prevents the spinal curvature and cancers.
Let us all celebrate the 24th of May 2015 – the holiday of Bulgarian culture with a traditional Bulgarian folklore dance!
Let us all create one video /length 1-3 minutes/ with Bulgarian folklore dance to support this campaign.
Please, upload the videos with the following name “...your personal name… I LOVE BULGARIAN FOLKLORE DANCES!”
Let us all create a huge media campaign – “Hold on, Earth, Bulgarians are dancing!” Together we can make the whole world look forward to the 24th of May!
We would like to invite all the Bulgarians throughout the world and all the friends of Bulgaria!

A colourful mixture of fascinating tribes with a large variety of tradition and, according to legend, a part of paradise that God gifted to the Bulgarian people!

Sofia's People - Люди Софии
June 2015: I found my hard drive with this on, re-conformed it from 30p to 24p to make it look nicer and polished it a little. Nothing major, just with the retiming to 24p the edits went out so tidied them up! Added a tiny grade and a bit of film grain.
Shot over a couple of nights, taking the 5dmk2 out on the streets and getting shots of the inhabitants and visitors. No lighting, no grading. This is what came out of the camera image wise. All handheld and helped by using the Z-Finder from Zacuto to give the camera a proper viewfinder and improve stability.
Travel video about destination Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is located in the extreme south east of Europe, a country of natural splendour, fairy-tale like villages, ancient ruins, and monasteries with remarkable frescos as well as a culture that is between both Orient and Occident. Sofia, the ‘wise woman’ and, since 1879, capital of the new Bulgaria, a city whose roots date back to the fifth century B.C. Once Thracians settled, then followed Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans.
