Here Is Germany (1945) - Walter Huston - Frank Capra | Ernst Lubitsch
Propaganda documentary directed by Frank Capra, with story preparation by Ernst Lubitsch, and narrated by Walter Huston. It's an exploration of why one of the two major Axis Powers countries started World War II and what had to be done to keep them from "doing it again".
It shows people such as housewives, mailmen, farmers and policemen at work, and notes that these people were not so different from us, and seem like people Americans can understand. Anthony Veiller then interrupts with "Or can we?", as the film then switches to a montage of Nazi concentration camps and piles of dead bodies. The narrator notes that this is not the only time t

Amos 'n' Andy is a sitcom set in Manhattan's historic black community of Harlem. The show was very popular in the United States from the 1920s through the 1950s on both radio and television. The radio show was written and voiced by two white actors playing a number of different characters: the titular Amos Jones and Andrew Hogg Brown, George Stevens, better known as "The Kingfish," "Lightnin'", and many others. The number of characters portrayed by the two performers required not only their own vocal versatility, but compelled them to invent a number of innovative microphone techniques to help convey the illusion of multiple characters in the

The narrator notes that this is not the only time that Germany has unleashed war on the world, stating that while its generation fought the "Nazis", its fathers fought the "Huns" (pejorative term for Germany during World War I), and its grand father remembers the "Prussians". The narrator claims that it was all part of the same German lust for conquest. It depicts the Third Reich, Adolph Hitler, Nazism, and the destruction of the liberal Weimar Republic.

Lux Radio Theater, a long-run classic radio anthology series, was broadcast on the NBC Blue Network (1934-35); CBS (1935-54) and NBC (1954-55). Initially, the series adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons before it began adapting films. These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences. It became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s. Broadcasting from New York, the series premiered at 2:30pm, October 14, 1934, on the NBC Blue Network with a production of Seventh Heaven starring Miriam Hopkins and John Boles in a full-hour adaptation of the 1922–24 Broadway production by Austin Strong. The host was the show's fictional producer, Douglass Garrick (portrayed by John Anthony). Doris Dagmar played another fictional character, Peggy Winthrop, who delivered the Lux commercials. Each show featured a scripted session with Garrick talking to the lead actors. Anthony appeared as Garrick from the premiere 1934 episode until June 30, 1935. Garrick was portrayed by Albert Hayes from July 29, 1935 to May 25, 1936, when the show moved to the West Coast. Cecil B. DeMille took over as the host on June 1, 1936, continuing until January 22, 1945.

Pleasures of the living flesh verses the rantings of fanatical religious preachings are aptly displayed in this screen adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's story Miss Sadie Thompson. Sadie Thompson (Joan Crawford) is a sassy prostitute who lands in Pago Pago in the South Pacific after an epidemic grounds the ship on which she's booked passage. Sadie's good looks, free spirit, and quick wit soon attract the attention of a group of American soldiers stationed on the island; while most are motivated by simple lust, the naive Sgt. O'Hara (William Gargan) falls in love with Sadie, thoroughly unaware of her checkered past and real profession. Rev. Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston father of actor director John Huston), a fire-and-brimstone pompous preacher bent on bringing salvation to the soldiers, is quickly onto Sadie's occupation and ways, and is determined to convince her to change her ways. Sadie slowly but surely is softened by Davidson's conviction, but the preacher soon finds himself all too human and is turned on himself by her sensual presence; O'Hara also learns the truth about Sadie, but hatches his own plan to "reform" her -- marriage. While not a box office hit in 1932, Rain has gone on to become a favorite in years since on video, thanks to Joan Crawford's vivid performance as Sadie and director Lewis Milestone's adventurous visual style. - Cathy Falstaff, Guest Reviewer for the NZ Herald.
Notes:
• Filmed on Catalina Island off the coast of California.
• This was Joan's first film made on loan-out to a studio other than MGM.
• Other famous "Sadie Thompson"s: Jeanne Eagels (1922, stage); Gloria Swanson (1928 silent film); 1935 (Tallulah Bankhead, stage); Rita Hayworth (1953 film). Carroll Baker appeared in a 1970 TV version.
• Screenwriter Maxwell Anderson also wrote a radio play that Joan appeared in later in the 1930s: "Mary of Scotland" for the Lux Radio Theater.
• Joan's fellow cast members were cool to her during filming. Walter Catlett went so far as to tell her, "Listen, fishcake, when Jeanne Eagels died, Rain died with her." (JCB)
• While filming on Catalina Island, Joan usually stayed in her cottage evenings, playing Bing Crosby records over and over, to the annoyance of her fellow cast and crew. (JCB)
• Joan's marriage to first husband Doug Fairbanks, Jr., was on the rocks during filming. She often refused to take his calls and was short with him when he sailed out for a visit, claiming he was ruining her concentration. She went into seclusion after the film wrapped in the summer of '32, and a belated honeymoon trip to Europe proved fruitless. The couple were officially divorced 7 months after Rain's release.
• Joan discovered she was pregnant during filming and told Fairbanks that she had slipped on the deck of a ship while shooting, losing the baby.
Rain (1932) is a film that all reliable and government sources prove the made and produced film is in the public domain as its copyright lapsed and was not renewed more than 50 years ago. The number of characters portrayed by the two performers required not only their own vocal versatility, but compelled them to invent a number of innovative microphone techniques to help convey the illusion of multiple characters in the same space.
As the show came to television, black actors took over the overwhelming majority of the roles; white characters were infrequent. Amos 'n' Andy began as one of the first radio comedy series, written and voiced by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll and originating from station WMAQ in Chicago. After the program was first broadcast in 1928, it grew and became a hugely popular radio series. Early episodes were broadcast from the El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs, California. The show ran as a nightly radio serial from 1928 until 1943, as a weekly situation comedy from 1943 until 1955, and as a nightly disc-jockey program from 1954 until 1960. A television adaptation ran on CBS-TV from 1951 until 1953, and continued in syndicated reruns from 1954 until 1966.

Anjelica Huston is descended from Hollywood royalty—the daughter of famed director John Huston and the granddaughter the notable actor Walter Huston. Like them, she won an Oscar and created a slew of memorable roles in such films as "Prizzi’s Honor," "The Grifters," "The Addams Family," and "The Royal Tenenbaums." But Huston has also surpassed her famous relatives by achieving the status of icon; her fame extends beyond film into the worlds of art and modeling, theater and television.
Now she’s added a new accomplishment—writer. Her rich personal and professional history have made for a bedazzling memoir. The first installment, "A Story Lately Told," detailed her enchanted childhood and her coming-of-age as a model and nascent actress in New York. As the second volume, "Watch Me," is released, join us an intimate conversation with the legendary Anjelica Huston. She is joined in conversation by Alison Cuddy, CHF’s program director and former WBEZ 91.5 host.

Danny Huston Talks BIG EYES, AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW and More
I could watch or listen to Danny Huston do just about anything and, sure enough, he turns up the charisma big time as gossip columnist Dick Nolan in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. Dick’s under the impression that he can make folks famous with his work and that’s exactly what Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) is looking for, so the two strike up a partnership of sorts. But, little does Dick know, Walter doesn’t deserve the attention he’s about to get for those big-eyed waif paintings he claims are his because he didn’t make them; his wife Margaret (Amy Adams) did.
Shortly before Big Eyes’ Christmas Day limited release, I sat down with Huston to talk a

Shortly before Big Eyes’ Christmas Day limited release, I sat down with Huston to talk about his love of Tim Burton’s work, what it was like working with Burton as an actor’s director, his unparalleled narration skills, what’s coming up on American Horror Story: Freak Show and more.

Shortly before Big Eyes’ Christmas Day limited release, I sat down with Huston to talk about his love of Tim Burton’s work, what it was like working with Burton as an actor’s director, his unparalleled narration skills, what’s coming up on American Horror Story: Freak Show and more.
