Public Joint Stock Company Gazprom (Russian: Публичное Акционерное Общество «Газпром», abbreviated PAO Gazprom, Russian: ОАО «Газпром», IPA: [ɡɐsˈprom]) is a large Russian company founded in 1989 which carries on the business of extraction, production, transport and sale of natural gas. The company name is a contraction of the Russian words Gazovaya Promyshlennost (Russian: газовая промышленность - gas industry). The headquarters of Gazprom are in Moscow.
Gazprom was created in 1989 when the Soviet Ministry of Gas Industry was converted to a corporation, retaining all of its assets. Although it is a private company, the Russian government holds a majority stake in the company. Gazprom is involved in the Russian government's diplomatic efforts; distortions of gas prices, and access to pipelines.Gazprom owns a private army.
Gazprom's production fields are located around the Gulf of Ob in Western Siberia. Plans have also been made to mine the Yamal Peninsula. Gazprom's gas transport system includes 158,200 kilometres of gas trunk lines. Projects include Nord Stream and South Stream. In 2011, the company produced about 513.2 billion cubic metres (18.12 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas, more than seventeen percent of global gas production. Gazprom also produced about 32.3 million tons of crude oil and nearly 12.1 million tons of gas condensate.

With a second well now in service at the arctic Prirazlomnoye field, Russian energy company Gazprom Neft said production is expected to double from 2014 rates. The company said production from the second well at the oil field in the Pechora Sea should total around 13,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company said in its latest statement it expects a total of 36 wells at the field. Gazprom Neft, the operator of the Badra oil field in Iraq, announces that first oil from the field is now being delivered to Iraq’s main pipeline system for transfer to the export terminal in Basra (Persian Gulf). Current deliveries from Badra to the pipeline stand at over 15,000 barrels of oil per day and this level should be maintained until the end of 2014. According to the service contract with the Government of Iraq, the consortium of investor companies will begin receiving a share of the oil produced at the field after a period of 90 days following launch of commercial supply.

Foundation of Europe's highest skyscraper currently under construction in Russia's St Petersburg has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest continuous concrete pour. The construction of the tower called Lakhta Center began in 2014. It will house the headquarters of Russian state gas monopoly Gazprom and is expected to be completed by 2018. The total area of the building will be 400,000 square meters.The head of the company overseeing construction of the complex reportedly said that each square meter is expected to cost up to USD 3,500.
