Plot
Follows the story of Gilbert Hooke. Gilbert was at one time on his way to the big time! But a taste for liquor and an unlucky streak got in the way and he's resigned now to playing local dives. His wife, Marina, is always on him to get a real job and help with the bills, but Gilbert will hear nothing of it. He still dreams of making the big time. After a particularly intense harassing from Marina one morning, Gilbert decides to hit the fishing hole (his favorite past time other than drinking) and fish his worries away. On the way he stops and talks to Ole Wormy Angler who advises him not to go to his particular destination: Mocatawbi Pond, because of a curse that was put upon it. But Gilbert doesn't listen and amidst his fishing expedition he catches a particularly interesting creature. It looks like a fish, smells like a fish, but has one tiny difference. It talks! Not only does it talk, it's extremely sarcastic... and mean... and crass. His name is Finnius Flacker. And if Gilbert will take him out of the accursed Mocatawbi Pond, Finnius promises to change Gilbert's fortunes for good. Gilbert takes the bait and soon finds himself amidst a world of comedic chaos as the curse that was upon Finnius, who was once a man, now rests upon him.

Born in Florida and raised in New Jersey, Evans relocated to Los Angeles in 1993 for a career in the music business. After working as a backing vocalist for Al B. Sure and Christopher Williams, she became the first female artist to contract with Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment recording company in 1994, for which she collaborated with several label mates such as Mary J. Blige and Carl Thomas and released three platinum-certified studio albums between 1995 and 2001, including Faith (1995), Keep the Faith (1998) and Faithfully (2001). In 2003, she ended her relationship with the company to sign with Capitol Records. Her first album released on the label, The First Lady (2005) became her highest-charting album at the time, reaching the top of the US Top R&B;/Hip-Hop Albums charts, while the holiday album A Faithful Christmas, released the same year, would became her last release before the company was bought in 2007. Following a longer hiatus, Evans released her fifth album Something About Faith on the independent label Prolific/E1 Music in 2010. Troi Torain aka STAR is the most objective voice in media today and in 2011 he was inducted into News One's "Top 20 Best Black Radio Jockeys Of All Time." As an objectivist, Atheist and independent voter STAR is known to push the limits of religion, philosophy and rational thinking. Torain made the national stage on MTV’s Beat Suite (1999) but it was his radio show (Star & Buc Wild) on New York's Hot 97 & Power 105 that secured his place in media history. If you’re interested in becoming a session player or just curious as to how the process works behind the scenes, then this is the lesson for you! With the increased availability of home recording equipment, remote recording sessions are becoming more and more common place. Whether you use this information to record with a multi-platinum producer or just to put together some demo’s with your band, understanding this process can be greatly beneficial. One thing to really take away from this lesson is the communication involved in working on a remote session. With recording remotely it’s essential to be able to convey your idea’s clearly and also to be flexible with the bass part you've created. Scott had pre-prepared some alternate parts but was perfectly willing to adapt and change those parts to meet the needs of the producer. This kind of flexibility is really fundamental, as being reluctant to change your parts can get in the way of the process. It’s important to keep in mind that your goal is to create the best possible part for the song. The track they are working with features a ‘scratch’ vocal recording. A scratch recording is effectively just a rough place holder to sketch out the idea of the song until the final part is recorded. In session situations is it quite common place to encounter songs that incorporate scratch tracks or even have some instrumentation missing that will be added later. It’s also not uncommon to play multiple parts that could end up on the recording in any number of combinations. If you have ever watched interviews with session players you will often hear them talk about how different the track they recorded on was when they played on it, compared to the version they later heard on the radio. At the beginning of the recording process Scott breaks down the structure of the song and also goes through the chord movement. Being able to really understand harmony and pick up on song structure quickly are really essential skills for a working session player. In fact Warren lists having a good ear, so that you are able to pick up a song after just listening to it a couple of times, as the most important skill a studio player can have. During the lesson Scott & Warren are constantly using the number system to describe which chords they are referring to. Understanding these concepts can really save a lot of explanation time when working in a session environment. This fundamental musical language is also invaluable in a band setting. While there is of course a lot of value in learning what you predecessors have done, it’s important to realise that playing in your own way has a lot of value.
