Heavy rain and strong winds brought on by Typhoon Noul affected Korea′s southern regions overnight， especially Jeju Island. More than one－hundred－30 flights going in and out of Jeju International Airport have been canceled since late Monday. Dozens of accidents and flooding have been reported across the island，.. but no one was seriously hurt. According to local authorities，... some 20 houses were flooded，... and two people had to be rescued from a swollen river. A nine－ton boat anchored at Seogwipo Port also capsized due to high waves and strong winds. And Typhoon Chan-hom, that′s since been downgraded to a tropical storm,... is currently heading north across North Korea and is expected to continue weakening as it passes over Pyongyang later in the day. South Korea′s weather agency says a typhoon watch issued earlier in parts of South Korea has been lifted. Chan-hom has brought heavy downpours to the southern part of the peninsula, with mountainous regions of Jeju Island receiving more than 14-hundred millimeters of precipitation so far. Strong winds also toppled trees and traffic lights in the southern regions. Fortunately,... no casualties have been reported. Title: Korea, U.S. form task force to investigate wrong anthrax shipment The Korean government has organized a task force with the United States to investigate an erroneous shipment of live anthrax to a U.S. base in Korea back in April. Korea′s foreign ministry says the task force, formed under the joint Seoul-Washington committee on the Status of Forces Agreement, will review the incident and work to prevent a re-occurrence. The two countries will hold separate committee meetings on Wednesday to discuss the shipment, review how the countries responded to the incident and outline priorities for the task force. The Status of Forces Agreement governs the legal status of some 28-thousand and 500 U.S. troops stationed in Korea since the Korean War, which ended in an armistice back in 1953. Title: Newly released document proves Japan forced Koreans into labor A newly released document proves Japan forced Koreans into slave labor at a controversial World War Two site that recently gained UNESCO World Heritage recognition. Kim Moon-gil..., an honorary professor of Busan University of Foreign Studies,... helped Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency obtain the three-page document from an undisclosed Japanese museum. The document was written by the Yamano Coal Mine and calls for the construction of a barbed wire fence on a wall surrounding a dormitory for Korean workers to prevent them from climbing over it. Train travel from China to Cult Korea: Beijing-Pyongyang. May 2010. See Videos 2, 3 and 4 for the walking tour of NK. This was a propaganda tour that brings tourists to the country's showcase cities and fertile regions. These videos give people thinking about visiting NK an overview of what they will see there (A variety of tours are offered but itineraries are often similar). These videos are neither truncated nor narrated. Footage is exclusive to regions in N. Korea where the elite population resides. Therefore you will not see how the majority of N. Koreans live, with oppression, famine, lack of human rights and medical care, or the most unfortunate 150,000 political victims living in Soviet Gulag/Nazi Concentration style camps. South Korea maintains a cowardly and disturbing indifference to the large scale atrocities occurring in North Korea. In the 60 years since the division of the Korean Peninsula, South Korweakens have lost their sense of unity and urgency. S. Korea has overwhelming military and non-military options if it wanted the Northern regime to collapse. It does not need to wait forever on the the vastly useless and toothless UN to solve South Korea's problem. Yet, the SK government and inhabitants are shockingly content with maintaining their segregation due to the massive financial costs of rebuilding the North's infrastructure and rehabilitating a mentally/physically stunted and uneducated population. Even though the reunification costs increases each year, the Holocaust stays alive because information connected South Korea ignores the suffering when they are morally responsible and fully capable of taking back their own country. The S. Korean government downplays the N. Korean human rights abuses and over-hypes North Korea's military capacity to discourage citizens from talking about the necessity of freeing Korea. South Korea has 50 times greater GDP and generations more advance military, yet cowers to a starving, impoverished country with antique armaments. N. Korean refugees are not warmly received in S. Korean society. South Korea does not voice opposition to China's illegal forced repatriation of N. Korean refugees, of which there may be over 100,000. When men, women and children are repatriated back to North Korea, they face cruel punishment and imprisonment, or if they had communicated with Westerners or religious groups, they are tortured and/or executed. Yet, this does not concern or alarm the prosperous South Koreans. North Korean lives are dispensable to them. And this is all great news for tourists wanting to see a Stalinist/Maoist country in the 21st century. So no need to rush, you still have plenty of time to visit. The UN is powerless, and South Korea is spineless. If you want to help North Korean civilians, I recommend visiting HRNK (The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea) and the UK Manna Mission of Europe (which operates bakeries to feed NK children).

Powerful typhoon Goni is moving away from Taiwan and taking aim at Japan. And the Korean Peninsula will start to feel the direct impact of the typhoon tomorrow. It will trigger heavy rainstorms nationwide. The eastern regions will be hit the hardest.... Up to 300 millimeters of rain is expected， especially in eastern provinces， over the next couple of days. And southern regions will also see downpours of up to 200 millimeters before the system clears out by Wednesday afternoon. The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued pre－typhoon advisories for port cities and islands across southern and eastern coastal areas， as they will be hit by strong winds and high waves. Due to the passing typhoon， temperatures will be much cooler tomorrow. The daytime high in Seoul， Daegu， Gwangju， and Busan will only climb to 25. As for other regions... Daejeon and Jeju will reach 24 and 27， while Dokdo peaks at 22. If you have to head outdoors， make sure to gear up on the rain proof items.... It′s likely an umbrella will not be enough to stay dry. Korean Barbecue I stayed in South Korea for just over 2 weeks and was able to complete this entire list of things to do in Seoul. However, even though there are so many places to see and go, probably my favorite of all is eating and sampling delicious Korean food! Korean food is so good and there are so many restaurants everywhere you look in Seoul that it can truly be considered a foodie's paradise. Thirty kilometres south of Seoul is the fortress town of Suwon where at the end of the eighteenth century the Hwaseong Fortress was built, now a World Heritage Sight. South Korea’s most famous monastery is located in the Gaya-San National Park. Today the complex and its ninety buildings have become one of the main Buddhist centres in the East.. Tumuli Park is situated in the centre of Kyong Ju, former capital of the Silla Kingdom and contains twenty three royal tombs that look from the outside like large green hills. A huge number of valuable finds were made here thus the National Museum was created in which more than a hundred and fifty thousand exhibits from prehistoric times right up to the Joseon Dynasty are on display. Jeju island is a unique holiday paradise, a volcanic island with temples, waterfalls, tea plantations and several leisure facilities. For Koreans as well as the Japanese, Jeju Island has, due to its tropical climate, become a very popular honeymoon destination. When during dinner a volcano erupts and laser gods battle against each other, the Korean people are reminded of the fact that they have withstood invasion by the Mongols, Chinese and Japanese. At the climax of the show a fiery dragon appears: his sole task to protect glorious South Korea!

South Korea Travel Video Guide: South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea is a country in East Asia. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast. Archeological finds of prehistoric toolmaking on the Korean Peninsula date back to 70,000 BC, and the first pottery is found around 8000 BC. Comb-pattern pottery culture peaked around 3500-2000 BC. Legend has it that Korea began with the founding of Gojoseon (also called Ancient Chosun) by the legendary Dangun in 2333 BC. Archeological and contemporaneous written records of Gojoseon as a kingdom date back to around 7th-4th century BC. Gojoseon was eventually defeated by the Chinese Han Dynasty and its territories were governed by four Chinese commanderies. The political chaos following the fall of the Han Dynasty in China allowed native tribes to regain control of Korea and led to the emergence of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, namely Goguryeo, Silla and Baekje. Despite repeated attempts by China, namely the Sui Dynasty and later the Tang Dynasty, to conquer the Korean Peninsula, northern-based Goguryeo managed to repel them. Eventually, Goguryeo fell to a Silla-Tang alliance, which had earlier defeated Baekje. This unified Korea under the Silla dynasty. Even though Tang later invaded, Silla forces managed to drive them out, thus maintaining Korea's independence. Unified Silla was replaced by the Goryeo (also called Koryo) dynasty, from which the modern name "Korea" derives. One highlight of the Goryeo dynasty was that in 1234 the world's first metal movable type was invented by a Korean named Choe Yun-ui (200 years before Gutenberg's printing press). Goryeo was replaced by the Joseon (also called Chosun) dynasty, after a coup by one of its generals. The Joseon dynasty ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910, being one of the longest actively ruling dynasties in world history. It was during the early part of the Joseon dynasty that Korean technological inventions such as the world's first water clock, ironclad ship, and other innovations took place. During the rule of King Sejong the Great, the world's first rain gauge was invented and the Korean alphabet known as hangul was created. Seoul is one of the most dynamic cities in the world. I've been privileged enough to have lived in and around the Seoul metropolitan area for several years as an English teacher. It's a city that is near and dear to my heart and one which I strongly encourage you to visit. Below is my things to do in Seoul travel guide featuring all of the top attractions worth visiting: 1) Insadong is the cultural HUB of Seoul. It's an area that is equally as popular with locals as it is with tourists. Whether you're shopping for Korean souvenirs, people watching or wanting to grab some Korean street food, you'll find it all here. 2) Do fancy cats? For cat lovers (and the cats living there) a cat cafe is paradise. With an opportunity to interact with cats and feed them treats, you'll be sure to make a few feline friends in just one sitting. The deal with these cat cafes is that you have to purchase a prepaid drink and/or snack (at a price higher than a normal cafe) for the opportunity to pet and play with kitties. Our favorite cat cafe was located in Hongdae. 3) In the winter Korea is frigid in a way few from abroad might expect. To warm up head to a proper Korean Tea House where you'll be served a wonderful aromatic fruity Korean tea accompanied by rice cake snacks. To enjoy like a local find a spot with Ondol - heated floors. If you're looking for a recommendation, try the ginger tea! 4) For the best view in Seoul consider hiking up Mount Namsan to visit Seoul Tower. Best done in the spring or fall - given the moderate temperatures - this moderately challenging walk will take less than an hour to complete. We picked late fall to go when it was cooler outside and leaves were changing colors. 5) No trip to Seoul would be complete without visiting the oldest market in the city - Namdaemun market. Many come here to shop but I'm all about coming for Korean street food. With a plethora of stalls and no shortage of options it's best to arrive with an empty stomach. If you're having a hard time choosing I recommend Hotteok and Tteokbokki. 6) As if visiting a cat cafe wasn't enough there are also dog cafes in Seoul! Unlike the cat cafes, which are a bit more mellow, prepare for a high energy kind of environment in the dog cafe where the dogs are more active than the docile cats. 7) For the best walk in Seoul head down to the Cheonggyecheon stream in the heart of the city. Equally as fascinating during the summer as it is by winter, it takes on a totally different personality as the seasons change. If you're lucky you'll spot a traditional Korean performance or hear Korean music playing. 8) There are numerous palaces to consider visiting in Seoul but none is more impressive than Gyeongbokgung. With admission being only 3000 KRW it's a cheap and fun landmark to visit. Things to do in Korea | Top Attractions Travel Guide

When coming up with a top attractions travel guide for South Korea it became a daunting task to go through my travel video library collection of Korean videos and decide which ones to use. There is just so much to see and do in Korea from food to culture and from attractions and cities worth visiting. From Seoul to Busan and from countryside to urban city centers there is something for everyone. The following recommendation for the top things to do in South Korea: 1) Visiting Insadong Considered by many to the cultural hub of Seoul, Insadong is the perfect place to indulge in Korean street, go shopping and take in Korean traditional musical performances. It is also one of the best places for people watching as you'll notice a mix of both Koreans and foreigners. 2) Korean Folk Village The Korean Folk Village, nestled in between the cities of Suwon and Yongin, is a place you'll definitely want to check out. While wandering around he scenic premises you can snack on Korean street food delights such as sugary taffy where you'll notice traditional Korean wedding ceremonies, tightrope walking and equestrian students and performances. The best time of year to come is in the fall or spring. 3) Cat Cafes Although we've been to several cat cafes in Thailand, Malaysia and Germany we still haven't found one that tops the cat cafe we visited in Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea. Purchase an entrance ticket, which entitles you to a drink, allows you to come in and interact with the cats playing, feeding and petting them to your hearts content. 4) One of the most historic markets in all of Seoul - and Korea for that matter - is Namdaemun Market. As the largest and oldest open air market in all of Korea you'll have a chance to shop and eat Korean street food all day long. My favorite snack here is hotteok. 5) A scenic and peaceful way to experience the heart of downtown Seoul is to wander along the Cheonggyecheon. There are few places that are more attractive to go walking. When we visited in winter we noticed many ice sculptures. 6) To beat the heat in the winter, visit a traditional Korean tea house for a fragrant cup of hot fruity tea and a delicious plate of Korean rice cake snacks. 7) Not a fan of cats? Try visiting a dog cafe as an alternative. It's the same deal as the cat cafe in terms of purchasing overpriced drinks for the chance to play and interact with cute dogs and puppies. 8) Kimbap Restaurant For excellent Korean rice rolls, known as kimbap, head to one of the ubiquitous locations for some excellent kimchi fried rice, mandu and Korean soups. 9) Bamboo Park If you visit the city of Damyang, in the southern region of Korea, you'll be treated to the Damyang Bamboo Forest Park. A nice scenic escape from urban Korean life, these parks do sometimes get crowded. 10) Boseong Tea Fields and Plantation Not far from the Bamboo Forest Park is the Boseong Tea Fields. Come climb up to the very top - it's quite the workout and enjoy a cup of green tea or green tea flavored ice cream upon returning to the bottom. 11) There are a plethora of fascinating palaces and temples to explore in Seoul. Our favorite, is Gyeongbokgung Palace where admission is only 3000 Won. Pose with Korean guards and stick around for the changing of the guard. 12) If you're ready to shop until you drop be sure to visit Myeongdong, one of the most popular shopping districts in all of Seoul. Here you'll find swanky boutique shops and plenty of restaurants. 13) For the art and hipster scene be sure to visit Hongdae, the most popular student hangout area for Koreans. From food to nightlife to shopping this place has it all for young 20 somethings. 14) An alternative to Itaewon is Songtan - located nearby an American Military base in the Pyeongtaek region. This is where you'll come to buy American goods and to eat International cuisine. 15) Seoul Tower offers amazing views of the city but I enjoyed climbing Namsan even more. The climb is free and it best enjoyed on a fall or spring afternoon when the weather is cool. This is part of our Travel in Korea series. Six world powers and Iran extend talks into Wednesday to find agreement on Tehran′s denuclearization... with Russia citing optimism that negotiators agree on "all key aspects." Prime Time News begins now. Welcome to Prime Time News on this Wednesday, April 1st. Live from Seoul... I′m Kang Chery. And I′m Sean Lim. Thanks so much for joining us tonight for the top stories this hour. Title: New high-speed railway opens in Korea′s southwest We begin with another advance in Korea′s highly-acclaimed railway network... Six years since breaking ground, high-speed trains that cut travel time to the country′s capital into half... will start operating in the nation′s southwest. President Park Geun-hye celebrated the opening of the latest KTX line this Wednesday, with anticipation that it will spur regional development. Choi You-sun shows us the new way to ride in style. President Park Geun-hye hopped on a high-speed train running on a new line stretching through Korea′s southwest. The 182-kilometer of tracks starting from Osong, will shorten travel time from Seoul to the southwestern city of Gwangju by about 90 minutes. President Park said this latest railway will help the local economy grow and spur social and cultural cooperation in the region. "Aside from creating a 23 billion dollar economic ripple effect, the railway is expected to bring more visitors and businesses to areas surrounding two of the government′s SME-supporting innovation centers in the region." Since operations began in 2004, Korea′s bullet train, the KTX, has only been able to travel at half its speed in the southwestern region because tracks were unfit for a high-speed locomotive. Now only three hours away from the Incheon International Airport, President Park said Gwangju could develop into a global city along the west coast. In line with this, plans to increase KTX services from Incheon Airport to Gwangju duringi its hosting of the 2015 Summer Universiade in July were also announced. There are also expectations that the high-speed railroad will promote advanced rail technology around the world. In fact, joining President Park on today′s test ride was a visiting Malaysian transport official. Both Malaysia and Singapore have shown interest in Korea′s rail technology and plan to place an order later this year, for a 22-billion-dollar high-speed railway project to link their countries. Stay tuned... for these stories and more. Hello and welcome to Prime Time News... on this Tuesday June 9th. I′m Daniel Choy. And I′m Hwang Ji-hye, thanks for joining us. Title: MERS outbreak: 7 dead; over 2,800 quarantined More MERS cases are confirmed in Korea,... 8 were reported overnight,... and the death toll reaches seven. For more, let′s connect to Connie Kim at the news center. Connie, give us the latest. Guys, the official tally of infected patients stands at 95. But an official from the Samsung Medical Center... where some MERS patients are being treated... say a pregnant woman in her 40s has tested positive for the disease. It′s reported she had contracted the virus at their emergency room where a MERS patient was also at. If confirmed, it would be the first case of a pregnant woman catching the virus. Although the health ministry had said... that this will be the week that the MERS outbreak peaks, newly confirmed cases show that the virus is still spreading nationwide. Today... two of the new MERS infections were confirmed in Gangwon-do Province while another was said to be in Chungcheongbuk-do Province. Taking a closer look... up until yesterday, MERS cases were detected in four regions in Korea including Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province where the most infections have been confirmed. Has the government announced any new measures today in fighting the disease? In a press briefing this morning, acting Prime Minister Choi Kyung-hwan promised all-out efforts to contain the virus. Starting tomorrow,... the MERS Central Response Headquarters and the MERS task force team will run virus testing on all... hospitalized pneumonia patients... in the four regions where the virus has been tracked. If they test positive,… any newly confirmed patients will be strictly isolated in a one-person quarantine facility... to prevent secondary and tertiary infections. Also, the government said it will shoulder all medical expenses for MERS patients and costs associated with virus testing. It is also planning to allocate more funds to create special containment wards capable of blocking further spread of the outbreak. How are health experts assessing the government′s response measures? Addressing Asian and European leaders in Italy, President Park Geun-hye unveils her ambitious plan to boost tangible connections between the two continents and bring North Korea out of its international isolation. In a move sure to enrage Japan′s neighbors, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sends a ritual offering to a controverisal war shrine that pays respect to several Class-A war criminals. Plus,... Korea is going to send a team of medical workers to West Africa to help in the global fight against Ebola. This as the WHO says the number of recorded deaths from the virus is set to reach four-and-a-half thousand... with double that figure infected. Title: ASEM: President Park lays out plan to better connect Asia & Europe We start with President Park′s trip to Italy... and the Korean leader has laid out her extremely ambitious vision of developing transportation, technology and even education links between Asia and Europe. Speaking at the 10th Summit of Asia-Europe Meeting in Milan, the president also promoted her so-called "Eurasia Initiative" that′s aimed at helping North Korea become a responsible member of the international community. Choi You-sun reports. Addressing some 50 world leaders at the Asia-Europe Meeting in Milan Thursday, the Korean president first talked about enhancing the physical link between the two continents. She proposed a global symposium to discuss a rail, land, sea and air transportation and distribution network system across Eurasia. President Park then talked about a digital link, vowing to expand from the Korea-led Trans-Eurasia Information Network: a high-speed connectivity of research and education institutes in more than 50 countries. Lastly, the Korean leader highlighted connecting the two continents′ culture and education, to increase mutual understanding and to build trust, ultimately solidifying the basis of worldly peace. In that regard, President Park referred to her "Eurasia Initiative" of linking the region, including North Korea, for growth, innovation and peace. "I have dreamt about traveling on a train from South Korea′s southern city of Busan through North Korea, and across Eurasia to Milan in Europe." She said both Asia and Europe should strengthen efforts in persuading the North to open its doors to the world and change, and that a nuclear-free and peaceful unified peninsula would then become a strong nexus for Eurasia.
