The Port of Shanghai, located in the vicinity of Shanghai, comprises a deep-sea port and a river port.
In 2010, Shanghai port overtook Singapore port to become the world's busiest container port. Shanghai's port handled 29.05 million TEUs, whereas Singapore port was a half million TEU's behind.
In 2011 Shanghai port broke a new historic record by handling over 30 million TEUs.
The Port of Shanghai is managed by Shanghai International Port which superseded the Shanghai Port Authority in 2003. Shanghai International Port Company Limited is a public listed company, of which the Shanghai Municipal Government owns 44.23 percent of the outstanding shares.
During the Ming Dynasty, what is now the city of Shanghai was a part of Jiangsu Province (with a small part in Zhejiang Province). While Shanghai had become a county seat in the Yuan Dynasty, it remained a relatively small town.
Shanghai is the largest city by population of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four province-level municipalities of the PRC, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010. It is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center and the busiest container port in the world.
Located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces to the west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.
Once a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of several opened to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the first opium war and the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking which allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, the city's international influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.

Yangshan Port - Another Wonderful Shanghai Sight. The Yangshan Deepwater Port is located close to a chain of islands between the Hangzhou Bay and the mouth of the Yangtze River. A natural and superb deepwater port, it's just 45 nautical miles from international waters and about 27 kilometers away from the Luchao Port in Nanhui District. The Donghai Bridge links the port with Shanghai's network of communication lines and gives it good connections with the economic hinterland of the Yangtze Rive Delta.

Shanghai (Chinese: 上海; Shanghainese: Zånhae; Mandarin pinyin: Shànghǎi) is the largest city by population of the People's Republic of China (PRC) [6][7] and the largest city proper by population in the world.[8] It is one of the four province-level municipalities of the PRC, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010.[4] It is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center[9] and the busiest container port in the world.[10]
Located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces to the west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.[11]
Once a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to its favorable port location and was one of the cities opened to foreign trade by the 1842 Treaty of Nanking which allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s.[12] However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, the city's international influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.[13]
Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yuyuan Garden, as well as the extensive and growing Pudong skyline. It has been described as the "showpiece" of the booming economy of mainland China.[14][15]

The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.
For centuries a major administrative, shipping, and trading town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five opened to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War while the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was reoriented to focus on socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.
Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. It has been described as the "showpiece" of the booming economy of mainland China. **Source from Wikipedia**

Chapter 124 is one of 130 Chapters of Paul Hodge's incredible "ground breaking" November, 2014 High Definition (HD) Video Book, "2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014”. This fantastic HD video focuses on Paul’s Sunday, September 28, 2014 Shanghai metro ride to Shanghai’s City Center at Nanjing Street East and his exploration of the Shanghai Bund waterfront.
Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world with a population of more than 24,000,000+ million. The City is a global financial center and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai’s East Coast is on the East China Sea. Asia’s busiest shopping street Nanjing Road is located in Shanghai’s city center together with the historic Bund area which borders on the Huangpu River, a tributary of the Yangtze River which flows into the East China Sea. The economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in Shanghai’s meteoric growth and the creation of major redevelopment projects such as the modern Pudong District’s Financial Center Area.
Paul’s HD Video Book "2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014” is a “first” on YouTube because: 1) Paul utilizes a highbred documentary filmmaking Cinéma Vérité style to document the extreme physical and logistical challenges in exploring solo around the world, 2) Paul’s HD video series is the “first ever” published on YouTube to include 130 detailed HD video chapters and 12+ hours of edited, original HD film taken by Paul Hodge from all over the world and 3) Paul's HD video book is Paul's fifth video book published on YouTube. By providing viewers with such incredibly detailed HD videos and fresh commentaries, author Paul Hodge shows what it realistically takes to plan and successfully execute the life changing "bucket list" achievement of adventuring solo around our wonderful Planet Earth.
Paul is one of the few people in this World to have explored and adventured around our planet five times in the last six years!! In addition to his September, 2014 SoloAroundWorld adventure, Paul’s fourth 24 day solo around the world adventure was in November, 2013 (See Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBGJnS9-fLg), his third 47 day solo around the world quest was in June, 2012 (See Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR6iXID_Asc ). Shanghai is not merely a modern metropolis but a city with traditional Chinese culture where the oldfashioned westernstyle architecture cluster sets off the modern skyscrapers and you can immerse yourself into the sacred melody from Xujiahui Cathedral soak up yourself into the incensefilled air in the Jade Buddha Temple or just take a walk quietly in Zhongshan Park.Initially built in the Yuan dynasty Shanghai became a cottonmanufacturing center during the 16th century and had developed into a prosperous port where the merchants from all over the world gathered by the mid19th century and it was opened as a trading port by colonists after the SinoBritain Opium War making it the largest economic city in China after 1949.Great changes have taken place in Shanghai in the last 50 years during which the architecture cluster in Shikumen has been considered to be the embodiment of fashion the previous wetland has been replaced by the magnetic suspensiontrain station and the international airport and the former racecourse has been transformed into a wonderful park and who could imagine that all happened in mere 50 years As a valuable land with a good geomantic omen Shanghai remains a Chinese commercial hub as well as a tie linking China to the rest of the world now.Shanghai is a shopping paradise for visitors just next to Hong Kong in China where the wellknown shopping streets such as Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road are lined with commodities from all over the globe for your selection featured good quality and high price.Shanghai is not just notable for its commercial position in the world and it's blessed with numerous attractions as well. As a matter of fact Shanghai serves as a newlyemerging tourist city due to its profound cultural connotation and rich historical heritages including the Oriental Pearl TV Tower Shanghai World Financial Center Jinmao Tower Shanghai Museum the Bund Yuyuan Garden and the Jade Buddha Temple as well as the Site of the First National Congress of the CPC and the Grand View Garden.
