Balea Lake is a glacial lake ( formed cirque ) located at an altitude of 2,040 meters in the Fagaras Mountains, Sibiu County . The dimensions of the lake: 360 m in length, surface of 46,508 m2 and depth of 11.35 m . In 1932 Balea Lake and an area of about 180 ha around the lake were declared scientific reserve .
Balea Lake is located about 77 km from the towns of Sibiu , Fagaras 68 km and 85 km from Curtea de Arges. In summer you can reach by car on the road Transfăgărăşan , and otherwise by cable car from Balea Waterfall near Balea waterfall . In Fagaras Mountains and lakes Capra longer Podragu small Podragu Great Avrig, Urlea , etc.
In 2006 was built near Balea first ice hotel in Eastern Europe in the form of an igloo of 16 seats

Bâlea Lake (Romanian: Lacul Bâlea or Bâlea Lac, pronounced [ˈbɨle̯a]) is a glacier lake situated at 2,034 m of altitude in the Făgăraş Mountains, in central Romania, in Sibiu County. There are two chalets opened all the year round, a meteorological station and a mountain rescue (Salvamont) station. It is accessible by car on the Transfăgărăşan road during the summer, and the rest of the year by a cable car from the "Bâlea Cascadă" chalet.
In 2006, the first ice hotel in Eastern Europe was built in the vicinity of the lake.
