Conexant 28283D Capture Card Test

Captured with a Conexant 28283D based generic USB capture card. Video source: Wii U over component cables (YPbPr) at 480i 60FPS, captured at 720x480 29.97FPS. 480p output from the Wii U delivers a broken image (I have not tested this with other consoles yet). 720x576 at 25FPS works on the device. Recorded with OBS using Yadif2x deinterlacing, 6000kb/s bitrate, libx264 encoder, everything else default. To install the drivers for this device, put the disc it came with in, and plug in the device. Go to device manager and find the unknown device. Right click it, click update driver, search locally, and make it search the disc (including subfolders). Windows should install the correct drivers. A Honestech DVR 2.5 installer with a license key in a text file should be on the disc as well; however, that didn't work for me. If you're like me in that regard, a quick google search allowed me to find a version that worked for me, and I was able to use the license key I was provided. Honestech can be used to record S-Video or RCA, but not component video. You must use OBS for component video. To record in OBS, right click in sources box, Add, Video Capture Device. Right click on the entry and go to properties. Select the device, press configure, and set it to NTSC_M if you're in the United States like myself (sometimes I have to set this in honestech first for some reason, probably an OBS bug). Back in properties, go to "open crossbar" and set the Input to Yryby video. DO NOT set the input to tuner, or you will have to restart your computer to continue (it disables all input from the blue cable for some reason). If you want to stream, go to settings, broadcast settings, and set up your stream info. If you want to record, go to broadcast settings and change the mode to File Output Only. There is currently a bug in OBS that prevents audio from being recorded. To get around this, start recording, and go back to "open crossbar" in the video capture source properties. Set the input to composite and apply, then set it back to yryby and apply. If you're using the multiplatform version of OBS, you do not need to be recording while doing this. If you notice horizontal blurry lines in your footage, enable Yadif2x Deinterlacing under the Video Capture Source properties. Otherwise, leave deinterlacing disabled, as you'll get a clearer picture that way. This is currently unavailable in the multiplatform version of OBS, unfortunately. If your audio gets out of sync, go to OBS settings, advanced, then check "Force desktop audio to use video timestamps". This usually happens if you record at a different framerate than the capture. (This video was recorded in 1080p 30FPS, but the device captured this video in 720x480 at 29.97FPS). Not bad for a generic $20 capture card off of eBay. However, if you have the money, I'd suggest a name-brand card with dedicated recording software. These are around ~$60 minimum.
