Niger (i/ˈnaɪdʒər/ or /niːˈʒɛər/;French: [niʒɛʁ]), officially the Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in Western Africa, named after the Niger River. Niger is bordered by Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west, and Algeria to the northwest. Niger covers a land area of almost 1,270,000 km2, making it the largest country in West Africa, with over 80 percent of its land area covered by the Sahara Desert. The country's predominantly Islamic population of 17,138,707 is mostly clustered in the far south and west of the country. The capital city is Niamey, located in the far-southwest corner of Niger.
Niger is a developing country, and is consistently one of the lowest-ranked in the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI); it was ranked last at 187th for 2013. Much of the non-desert portions of the country are threatened by periodic drought and desertification. The economy is concentrated around subsistence and some export agriculture clustered in the more fertile south, and the export of raw materials, especially uranium ore. Niger faces serious challenges to development due to its landlocked position, desert terrain, high fertility rates and resulting overpopulation without birth control, poor education and poverty of its people, lack of infrastructure, poor health care, and environmental degradation.
Malam Ibrahim Mahaman Saguirou is a filmmaker from Niger. His documentaries have won various international prizes.
In 2002 Saguirou found work at Stage IFTIC Contrechamps, Niger. He moved to Africadoc, Dakar in 2004. In 2005 he was an intern at Moppan in Jos, Nigeria, and the same year worked at Cinédoc in Annecy, France. He was writer-director for the film producer Kutus from 2005 to January 2007. He attended the Berlinale Talent Campus in Berlin in 2006. Saguirou founded the Dangarama company in March 2007.
Saguirou became known when the first African Forum of Documentary Film in December 2006 screened his Un Africain a Annecy (an African in Annecy), a candid look at a young African discovering Western society during his first trip to France. His second film, La chèvre qui broute, je mange, tu manges (the Goat grazing, I eat, you eat) deals with the sensitive issue of corruption in Niger.Pour le Meilleur et pour l'Oignon! (For the Best and for the Onion! - 2008) is a documentary about marriage and the role of food in the culture of Niger. It tells of the pressure on a young onion farmer to produce more to gain the money required to marry. The obstacle-filled path of Ousseini, traditional chief of the butchers' guild of Zinder, is the theme of his 2008 film La Robe du temps (The Robe of time). In these two films Saguirou was forced to be his own producer due to the lack of funding endemic in the film industry on his country.
In 2005, Niger’s President “offered his people” the removal of user fees covering ante-natal consultations, children under five years, and caesarian sections. Increased access to health facilities resulted, and many poor people benefited from this subsidy. There was, however, insufficient preparation and inadequate funding mechanisms put in place. Most health facilities were not reimbursed by the State leading to paralysis in services when facilities were unable to buy expensive drugs or lab reagents. Care was free but drugs were often missing The film follows a Nigerien research team investigating the implementation of this policy and shows reactions by different stakeholders. Aissa Diarra said she discovered health anthropology while in medical school. A researcher at Niger’s Laboratoire d’Etude et de Recherches sur les Dynamiques Sociales et le Développement Local (LASDEL), Diarra soon found it was the best way to help improve patient care, something that had frustrated her on the front lines.
Niger Foundation Hospital and Diagnostic Centre (NFH) is a project of Niger Welfare Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation based in Nigeria. Niger Welfare Foundation was formed in 1990 by a group of professionals to promote health and educational projects that would improve the health status and the educational level of a wide range of people. The Hospital has been set up with the central focus of offering world-class medical care to a wide range of people with a special focus on South-eastern Nigeria. It is meant to make a tangible contribution to the healthcare system in the country which has for some time now suffered from poor healthcare facilities.

While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. November 2015 I had the opportunity to travel to Niger, Africa with an incredible team of 18. As I returned home I had the privilege of creating a feature story on my trip for my TV class to share with my high school. As you watch this story from my heart I pray that you would be opened to the beautiful people of Niger and that you would partner with me in prayer for a flowing river of eternal life throughout this country and that souls would be saved for the Good News of our wonderful Savior, Jesus. Thank you for taking the time to watch this. Much love, Hannah
