POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS IN A MULTIPLEX WORLD by Prof. Amitav ACHARYA

Chair of the ASEAN Center, American University, USA
The growing separation between IR and Political Science is not just in terms of where they are studied, but also in terms of substance. IR scholars do not make full use of Poli Sci material. Thy no longer study political theory or political philosophy, which used to be a staple of political science. Even those IR scholars who do domestic politics (Waltz’s Second Image) hardly make use of political science approaches, including comparative politics concepts.
For example, when thinking of a new way to study the implications of the rise of China the limited selection of mainstream IR theories - constructivism, realism or liberalism – has proven unsatisfying. Each of these approaches is parsimonious and partial; in response to which political science can offer new perspectives. For example in the form of the consociationalism theory of Arendt Lijphart. This offers an eclectic framework of explanatory variables that leads to stable political order, such as equilibrium (realism’s balance of power), interdependence (liberalism), institutions (both liberalism and constructivism), and prior norms and values (constructivism). The result of this shift in perspective was the successful completion of a manuscript that was published in the International Studies Quarterly, entitled: “Power Shift or Paradigm Shift: China’s Rise and Asia’s Security Order”. (Acharya 2014c)
Furthermore, a very interesting article by Philip Schmitter, written in 2001 argues that the attempts to expand the study of political science have resulted in increasing Americanization.
…despite the label, “global,” the distribution of this temporal and spatial compression is neither universal nor even. It is very much concentrated on the scholarly exchanges between America and Europe. The former is seen by many observers (and, especially by its fans) as playing the compound role of coach, goal-keeper, striker and referee, with the latter at best occupying the mid-field and the rest of the world setting on the bench waiting to be called into the game. (Schmitter, 2001:3)
He was of course right, if you just take a look at the US centric perspectives such as those detailed in The Future of Political Science: 100 Perspectives (King, Schlozman, and Nie 2009). As a response the field and its members need to foster a Global Political Science (GPS), just as we need a Global IR. Much of what will be said about Global IR in a forthcoming article in International Studies Quarterly (based on an ISA Presidential speech, Acharya 2014b) can therefore easily apply to political science as well.

David Cameron, who is a professor of political science and the director of the Yale Program in European Union Studies, talks bout the refugee crisis in the European Union. Europe is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Day after day, thousands of refugees from Syria, Iraq and other conflicts have undertaken long and perilous journeys, both across the Mediterranean and through the Balkans in the hope of finding shelter and obtaining asylum in the European Union. Every day, we hear of one EU state after another instituting border controls, some quite drastic, to stop the flow of migrants. And day after day, we hear about disagreements

The purpose of this book is to explai

David Cameron
David Cameron, who is a professor of political science and the director of the Yale Program in European Union Studies, talks bout the refugee crisis in the European Union. Europe is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Day after day, thousands of refugees from Syria, Iraq and other conflicts have undertaken long and perilous journeys, both across the Mediterranean and through the Balkans in the hope of finding shelter and obtaining asylum in the European Union. Every day, we hear of one EU state after another instituting border controls, some quite drastic, to stop the flow of migrants. And day after day, we hear about disagreements among the members of the EU over how to respond to the crisis, including about how to share in the burden of receiving the migrants.

Restraint: A New Foundation for U.S. Grand Strategy
Dr. Barry R. Posen of MIT gave a lecture on his book entitled "Restraint: A New Foundation for U.S. Grand Strategy" at The Institute of World Politics on September 24, 2015. This lecture was part of a series on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy sponsored by the Charles Koch Foundation.
About the book:
In his book, Dr. Posen argues that the United States has grown incapable of moderating its ambitions in international politics. Since the collapse of Soviet power, it has pursued a grand strategy that can be called "liberal hegemony," which is unnecessary, counter-productive, costly, and wasteful. The purpose of this book is to explain why this grand strategy works poorly, and to offer an alternative grand strategy and associated military strategy and force structure.
About the author:
Barry R. Posen is Ford International Professor of Political Science at MIT, Director of the MIT Security Studies Program, and serves on the Executive Committee of Seminar XXI. His most recent book, Restraint: A New Foundation for U.S. Grand Strategy, was released in May 2014 (Cornell University Press 2014). He has written two additional books, Inadvertent Escalation: Conventional War and Nuclear Risks and The Sources of Military Doctrine. The latter won two awards: The American Political Science Association's Woodrow Wilson Foundation Book Award, and Ohio State University's Edward J. Furniss Jr. Book Award. He is also the author of numerous articles, including "The Case for Restraint," The American Interest, (November/December 2007) and "Command of the Commons: The Military Foundation of U.S. Hegemony," International Security, (Summer 2003). He has been a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow; Rockefeller Foundation International Affairs Fellow; Guest Scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Woodrow Wilson Center Fellow, Smithsonian Institution; Transatlantic Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and most recently Visiting Fellow at the John Sloan Dickey Center at Dartmouth College.

Louise Richardson Interview on Terrorism with Bryan Dobson Irish TV 2009
Louise Mary Richardson FRSE (born 8 June 1958, Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland) is an Irish political scientist whose specialist field is the study of terrorism. Currently the Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of St Andrews, she was formerly employed at Harvard University where she served as executive dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. On 28 May 2015, the University of Oxford announced that she had been nominated as the next Vice-Chancellor, subject to approval, to take up the post on 1 January 2016.The nomination was approved on 25 June 2015.
Louise grew up in Tramore, one of seven children of Arthur and Julie Richardson. After attending St Angela's Secondary School, Ursuline Convent, Waterford, she studied at Trinity College, Dublin where she obtained a BA degree in History with upper second-class honours in 1980, upgraded to an MA degree in 1982.
In 1977, she received a Rotary Scholarship to study in the USA at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); this forced her take a year out of her course in Ireland, but she has described her time in the US as a "totally liberating experience". She took an MA degree in Political Science from UCLA in 1981, followed by an MA degree in Government in 1984 and PhD degree in Government in 1989 from Harvard University.
From 1981 to 2001 Richardson served as an assistant professor and then an associate professor in the Harvard Government Department, teaching courses on international relations – especially in areas of terrorism, international security and American and comparative foreign policy. During this period she also served for eight years as Head Tutor and Chair of the Board of Tutors (Director of Undergraduate Studies) in the Government Department. She served in numerous other administrative capacities at Harvard University, including the Faculty Council and various committees concerned with undergraduate education, the status of women, and human rights. In July 2001, she was appointed executive dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
Richardson's academic focus has been on international security with an emphasis on terrorist movements. She taught Harvard’s large undergraduate lecture course, Terrorist Movements in International Relations, for which she won the Levenson Prize, awarded by the undergraduate student body to the best teachers at the University. This class, along with a number of graduate courses on terrorist movements and European terrorism, were for many years the only courses offered on the subject at Harvard. In addition to the Levenson Prize, Professor Richardson has received teaching awards from the American Political Science Association and Pi Sigma Alpha for outstanding teaching in political science; the Abramson Award in recognition of her ‘excellence and sensitivity in teaching undergraduates’ and many awards from the Bok Center for Teaching Excellence. After her 2001 Radcliffe appointment, she continued to teach, both at Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
In 2009, Richardson was appointed Principal of the University of St Andrews, succeeding Brian Lang. Her installation took place on 25 March 2009. She is the first woman, as well as the first Roman Catholic in modern times, to occupy the position. She was appointed Professor of International Relations at St Andrews in November 2010.
On 28 May 2015, Richardson tendered her resignation as Principal of the University of St Andrews to the University Court, effective of 31st December 2015, due to her appointment to the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford.
Louise is married to Thomas Jevon and they have three children.
Academic work
Richardson is the author of What Terrorists Want, an account of terrorism written after the September 11 attacks. Other publications include When Allies Differ: Anglo-American Relations in the Suez and Falkland Crises, The Roots of Terrorism (ed) and Democracy and Counterterrorism: Lessons from the Past (co-edited with Robert Art). She has also published many journal articles, book chapters, and reviews on the subject of terrorism.
Over the past decade, in addition to her teaching and management roles, Richardson has given over 300 talks and lectures on terrorism and counter-terrorism to educational and private groups as well as policy makers, the military, intelligence, and business communities.[citation needed] She has testified before the United States Senate and has appeared on CNN, the BBC, PBS, NPR, Fox and a host of other broadcast outlets. Her work has been featured in numerous international periodicals. Richardson was elected to the fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2010

POLITICS: Poetry Reading by Kolki - From POEMS BY KOLKI - ABSOLUTELY HUMANE, recipe for better world
Poem: http://www.kolki.com/poems/Politics-R.htm ... (Dedicated to true participatory democracy void of political parties; voting for issues – Deepak Sarkar, www.kolki.com)
Politics can never be science to maximize humanization of our society; political science should be changed to governance science focusing on good governance using science, technology, commerce, agriculture, arts and related cultural plurality! Kolki
There is a new deified designation - Political Scientist? Politics is never Science its the most deceiving Art which is causing endless sufferings to citizens around the around as few enjoy divide and rule policy depriving nations from unity, honesty and integrity for the overall benefit of the United Monarchy and their covert banks and agencies!

education ???
education we started and we are going
we are reading online which is a great blessing ,can you imagine going to school, work every day ?what is the life without reflection ?
There are many way of wasting , whereas we are trying to be better in technology every month ...
Efficiency and importance of natural science over political science, however we are still under politics
Thus education is self learning

Actor : Sam Fruzzetti, Mike Rosscoe
========CP4Y==========
Plot : Simon is a student of political science in Washington, DC that has grown totally disillusioned with the way the world works. This leads to him feeling helpless and hopeless, but he is content to party away his time and energy. Things begin to change when he meets Emma, a radical anarchist who encourages more direct (and controversial) actions to try to change the world. Simon and Emma begin to fall hard for each other, until Simon finds evidence that suggests Emma may be hiding important things from him, and their relationship begins to fall apart. This film is meant to serve as a parable for political issues raised by Wikileaks, as well as comment/critique on modern youth activism.

The 'X' Zone Radio Show with Rob McConnell - Guest: BOYD PURCELL
Spiritual Terrorism - Boyd C. Purcell is a National Board Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Ordained Christian Minister, and a Board Certified Chaplain. Educationally, he has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Comprehensive Social Studies (World/European/American History, Geography, Political Science, etc.) He also has a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling, a Master of Divinity Degree in Biblical Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in the integration of psychology and theology. In terms of experience, Dr. Purcell has over 40 years of ministry in counseling: agency, clinical, pastoral, psychiatric hospital, school, substance abuse, private practice, and chaplaincy-providing spiritual care at the end of life for hospice patients. Spiritual Terrorism is thus a unique blend of the historical, psychological, and theological perspectives in regard to major world religions. This integrative approach provides the greatest probability of understanding the complex problem of the use and misuse of religion, being liberated from fear-based religion, and finding healing for damaged emotions due to spiritual abuse/terrorism. Dr. Purcell started using the terms "spiritual abuse" and "spiritual terrorism" early in the 1990's. He presented on these topics to counselors, social workers, hospice personnel, chaplains, and other clergy at various local, state, regional, national, and international conferences. Evaluations were always overwhelmingly positive. Many participants reported that they had never heard of these terms but recognized that they had been spiritually abused. Some clergy and mental-health professionals realized that they had failed to recognize it in former patients and had, consequently, not been able to help them very much and had lacked the knowledge to have made a helpful referral. - www.healingspiritualterrorism.com
