Vaisakhi (Punjabi: ਵਿਸਾਖੀ) visākhī), also known as Baisakhi, Vaishakhi, or Vasakhi) is celebrating the birth of the Sikhs which is celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region by the Sikh nation as this day commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa.
Since agriculture is the backbone of the Indian sub-continent, it provides livelihood to the majority of people in the rural areas of the country. The festival of harvest is given special importance in the calendar of events. Vaisakhi/Baisakhi is one of the important festivals celebrated with fun and fervor by the people living in the northern parts of the country. Apart from being a harvest festival, it holds religious significance too.
For the Hindus, it is the start of the New Year, and is celebrated with requisite bathing, partying, and worshipping. It's believed that thousands of years ago, Goddess Ganga descended to earth and in her honor, many Hindus gather along the sacred Ganges River for ritual baths. The action is centered in the holy cities along the Ganges in north India, or in Srinagar's Mughal Gardens, Jammu's Nagbani Temple, or anywhere in Tamil Nadu. Hindus plant poles (wrapped in flags of gold-embroidered silk) in front of their homes, and hang pots of brass, copper or silver on top.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh (13 November 1780 – 20 June 1839) was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire.
Ranjit Singh belonged to a Sikh clan of Northern India. He was born in Gujranwala, now in modern-day Pakistan. According to some historians, into a Jatt Sikh family and some that he was born into a Sansi Sikh family who were Sukerchakia misldars. As a child he suffered from smallpox which resulted in the loss of one eye. At the time, much of Punjab was ruled by the Sikhs under a Confederate Sarbat Khalsa system, who had divided the territory among factions known as misls.
Ranjit Singh's father Maha Singh was the Commander of the Sukerchakia misl and controlled a territory in the west Punjab based around his headquarters at Gujranwala. After his father's death he was raised under the protection of Sada Kaur of the Kanheya Misl. Ranjit Singh succeeded his father at the age of 18. After several campaigns, he conquered the other misls and created the Sikh Empire.
Pashtun King Amir Ahmad Shah Abdali 1747–1772 of Afghanistan Durrani Known as Kings of Kings first crossed the Indus River in 1748, the year after his ascension – his forces sacked and absorbed Lahore during that expedition. The following year (1749), the Mughal ruler was induced to cede Sindh and all of the Punjab including the vital trans Indus River to him, in order to save his capital from being attacked by the Afghan Pashtun forces of the DurraniEmpire.

He was defeated in his first candidacy for Parliament at Stafford in 1997, but was elected in 2001 as the Member of Parliament for the Oxfordshire constituency of Witney. He was promoted to the Opposition front bench two years later, and rose rapidly to become head of policy co-ordination during the 2005 general election campaign. With a public image of a youthful, moderate candidate who would appeal to young voters, he won the Conservative leadership election in 2005.
Balkar Sidhu (Punjabi: ਬਲਕਾਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ) is a well-known Punjabi singer as well as actor from East Punjab (India).
Sidhu was born on 10 October 1973, to father S. Roop Singh Sidhu and mother Charanjeet Kaur, in the village of Poohla of Bathinda district in East Punjab. He is married to Daljinder Kaur and have two daughters and one son. He is the three times university gold medalist in singing and learned music from the famous Dhadi singer Gurbakhsh Singh Albela (his uncle) as professional.
He entered the world of Punjabi music with the album Karna Chhad De Pyar which was released during his graduation's first year. Later he released his album Din Pepran De and till now did many successful music albums and his Punjabi film, Desi Munde, is not compeleted yet. Some of his albums are:
Surinder Shinda (real name Surinder Singh Hunjan) is an Indian singer of bhangra music with traditional Punjabi roots, who is considered a "grandfather of modern Punjabi music", and has been described as "legendary". He has had numerous hit songs including Putt Jattan De, Truck Billiya, Balbiro Bhabhi, Kaher Singh Di Mout and Sohni Lagdi feat. Sukshinder Shinda. He has also appeared in Punjabi films such as Putt Jattan De and Uccha Dar Babbe Nanak Da.
Surinder Shinda was born Surinder Singh Hunjan in a Ramgharia Tarkhan Sikh family. He hails from Ludhiana, Punjab. He was a colleague of the Punjabi singer Kuldeep Manak and has also taught music to the late Amar Singh Chamkila, Maninder Shinda, Shinda's son.
Shinda is married to the sister of Dev Tharikewala's wife who is known to have written lyrics for Shinda & Kuldeep Manak.
Shinda currently works as a producer for younger artists. In addition, his latest album 'Putt Sardaran De' was successful in the Punjabi music market. Surinder Shinda is still singing today, with his latest song "Gabroo Punjab De" from the album Amplified by producer XS-BASS.
