Leeds is the cultural, financial and commercial heart of the West Yorkshire Urban Area, which at the 2001 census had a population of 1.5 million, and the Leeds-Bradford Metropolitan Area, of which Leeds is the integral part, had a population of around 2.3 million, making it the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom. In addition, the Leeds city region, an economic area with Leeds at its core, had a population of 2.9 million. Leeds is the UK's largest centre for business, legal, and financial services outside London, and its office market is the best in Europe for value. Leeds is considered a Gamma World City, alongside cities such as Phoenix, St. Petersburg and Valencia.
The University of Leeds campus has the city centre on its doorstep. Find out from our students about the wide variety of shops, the nightlife and cultural and historical attractions.

Hundreds of amateur astronomers have been getting an extra-special glimpse of what's been called "the comet of the century".
They've been on special 'comet flights' run by a British travel agency to get a better view of the Hale-Bopp comet.

LET'S GO SEE SOME MEERKATS! Travel Vlog - Roundhay Park, Leeds
Hey guys! Today's video is quite an exciting one, because firstly, I actually take the camera out properly and vlog haha! Secondly, my Mum and I went to Tropical World, which is kinda like a zoo but without the big animals!
And it was really exciting as I hadn't been in over 10 years, so it was pretty nostalgic haha. Most of it was like how I had remembered, but some of it had changed and they had a tonne more Meerkats there! They were so cute and adorable to watch, and they were just chilling in their groups.
We then went to Roundhay Fox (which is across the road) for some yummy pub grub! We got a Steak Burger with fries and beer battered onion rings (which I could actually eat right now, they were SO good!)
I hope you guys liked this vlog, and don't forget to hit the subscribe button for more videos! - I have a few more videos like these coming up as I've been pretty busy travelling and exploring over the past few days! :)
Thanks for watching! :)

UK: LEEDS: TRAVEL AGENCY RUNS "COMET FLIGHTS" TO SEE HALE-BOPP
Eng/Ger/Nat
Hundreds of amateur astronomers have been getting an extra-special glimpse of what's been called "the comet of the century".
They've been on special 'comet flights' run by a British travel agency to get a better view of the Hale-Bopp comet.
The flights take them seven miles (11 kilometres) above ground, clear of the distorting effect of the earth's atmosphere.
Right from the moment they picked up their boarding passes, it was clear this wouldn't be a normal flight.
The check-in girl sported a futuristic space suit, while the passengers carried nothing more than binoculars.
They paid 89-pounds (140 U-S dollars) for a unique opportunity to view the comet from seven miles (11 kilometres) up, far above the clouds, haze and light pollution that plague comet-gazers on the ground.
And as the passengers unpacked their binoculars at the start of the 90-minute flight, the lights were dimmed, as the celestial show of the century was unveiled:
UPSOUND (cabin attendant):
"Ladies and gentlemen. We are now at 35,000 feet. We will shortly be dimming the cabin lights so you can have a better view of the comet on your left hand side, and of Mars on the right hand side of the cabin."
And this was the sight they'd paid to see - a clear shot of the comet with the naked eye - and an astonishing clear view with binoculars on zoom.
One amateur astronomer flew all the way from Switzerland for the flight.
He took his wife along as well, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"In order to celebrate this, we came all the way from Switzerland, to celebrate it up in the sky.
Q: And what did you make of it?
A: It's fantastic. It's great."
SUPERCAPTION: Rolf Durrer, Swiss amateur astronomer
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"It's obviously a marvellous chance, because we can get above all the clouds and the pollution and the light of the cities, and see the skies as they would have been seen hundreds of years ago, before we started messing up the skies with our light."
SUPERCAPTION: Rodney Hine, amateur astronomer
SOUNDBITE: (German)
"I have a restaurant at home, and I'm going to tell all my friends what a fantastic flight this was, and what a brilliant and clear view we had of the comet. It was just fantastic."
SUPER CAPTION: Rolf Durrer, Swiss amateur astronomer
And then it was over.
The captain, who constantly banked the aircraft upwards during the flight to provide passengers with the best possible view, brought the plane back to earth.
The travel agent who came up with the idea - Peter Truman of Saltaire Travel - wasn't sure originally whether there'd be any demand.
Now he's had to lay on extra flights:
SOUNDBITE:
"Well, it started as an experiment really. We thought we'd have a bash at putting one flight on from Leeds-Bradford (airport) to see the spectacular comet of the century, the Hale-Bopp. And that really took off, and we've ended up putting a couple of flights on from Leeds, flights from Glasgow, Birmingham and (London) Heathrow as well. So it's been tremendously successful."
SUPERCAPTION: Peter Truman, Saltaire Travel
The company has arranged six more flights from British airports between now and the middle of the month, by which time the best of Hale-Bopp will be behind us.

10. Barcelona - The city is a pioneer in smart city and low-carbon solutions.
9. Hong Kong - The city has also been a leader in the use and adoption of smart cards, which are already used by millions of residents for services like public transit, library access, building access, shopping, and car parks.
8. Copenhagen - The city has committed to carbon neutrality by 2025 and 40% of its citizens regularly commute via bicycle.
7. Berlin - Berlin is testing out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in the hopes of creating a virtual power plant from electric vehicles.
6. Tokyo - The city will create a smart town in the suburbs in partnership with major industry. The eco-burb will contain homes that integrate solar panels, storage ba tteries, and energy efficient appliances all connected to a smart grid.
5. London - also scored relatively high across the board. London has been well-recognized for some of its sustainability innovations (i.e. congestion tax) and its robust transit system.
4. New York - New York scored higher than most other cities in the ranking in all of the categories except of quality of life, where it ranked a poor 47th. It has teamed with innovator IBM to help the city prevent fires and protect first responders as well as identify questionable tax refund claims--a move that is expected to save the city about $100 million over a five-year period.
3. Paris - Paris already has a highly successful bike sharing program, Velib, and just last month, its mayor launched a similar model for small EVs called Autolib.
2. Toronto - smartest city in NA, scored well across the board, it is an active member of the Clinton 40 (C40) megacities, which seek to transition to the low-carbon economy. The private sector is getting in on the action too, setting up a Smart Commute Toronto initiative to increase the city's transit efficiency.

Leeds Castle is encased by 500 acres of gorgeous land populated by parks and gardens.
Many of the Castle's gardens are drought-resistant, which ensures the grounds beauty for the entire year.
The Castle was originally built in 1119 by a member of William the Conqueror's court.
Throughout its lifetime the fortress has protected numerous medieval queens.
The infamous Henry VIII also enjoyed Leeds Castle's breath-taking vistas.
The castle still bears a striking resemblance to its original edifice, much to the pleasure of visitors who come to admire the structure.

Ultimate Music Festival Survival Guide | Festival Top Tips | Download, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Bestival
This is my top tips for music festivals or Festivals For Dummies so to speak.
Download Festival Fan Page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/DownloadMusicFestival/
Everybody loves a music festival. Music Festivals and their headline acts are the dreams of my music festival fans. Most music festival fans will try the music festival camping and the music festival camping is a integral part of the music festival experience. I have been to a few music festivals such as Sonisphere Music Festival and Download Music Festival but I have always love the idea of one day going to Reading & Leeds Music Festival, Glastonbury Music Festival, Hyde Park Calling Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival, Bloodstock Music Festival and maybe Woodstock Festival, Burning Man Festival, Wacken Music Festival, or even Sweden Rocks Music Festival sometime in the future.
Music Festivals can be a great way to meet people and find new bands and normally have big music festival headliners with fantastic live sets such as Metallica, Rammstein, Avenged Sevenfold, Muse, Eminem, Chase and Status, Paramore, Guns and Roses, Foo Fighters, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Linkin Park, and many other live music festival headliners and live festival sets that draw thousands in to enjoy their favourite music festival.
This vlog is to offer Ultimate Music Festival Survival Guide and Festival Top Tips for music festival camping tips as a music festival survival guide based on my experience as a boy scout and a veteran of Download Music Festival and Sonisphere which are known for their fluctuating weather conditions. This Survival Guide will help you survive the music festival. The Ultimate Music Festival Survival Guide and Festival Top Tips include how to plan your festival, camp at a music festival and Festival Survival Guide to food, prices and how not to be a dick.
The Ultimate Music Festival Survival Guide and Festival Top Tips vlog is hopefully a good Festival Bible and will give you a Festivals For Dummies style top tips and help guide to keep you safe.
