GEORGIA: POPE JOHN PAUL II MEETS ORTHODOX PATRIARCH
Georgian/Nat
Pope John Paul II has visited the residence of the Orthodox Christian Patriarch, His Holiness Ilia II, on the first day of the papal tour of the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia.
The meeting between the two religious leaders was part of a Vatican drive to "build new bridges" with the Orthodox church, a chief Vatican goal for the new millennium.
Ilia II joined Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze to welcome the 79-year-old Pontiff when he arrived in the Georgian capital on Monday morning.
The Polish-born Pope, on his first trip to the turbulent Caucasus region, paid tribute to Georgia's ancient Christian heritage, which dates back to its conversion in 337 A-D.
The Pope, who has just finished a three-day trip to India, was due to visit Georgia's ancient capital of Mtskheta later on Monday.
On Tuesday he will celebrate mass in a sports stadium in Tbilisi and hold talks with Shevardnadze before flying back to the Vatican.
The Pope's two-day visit has been overshadowed by the fierce fighting elsewhere in the Caucasus, where the Russian assault on the breakaway republic of Chechnya has continued.
Shevardnadze said earlier on Monday that he hoped the Pope's visit would help to promote peace in the region.
SOUNDBITE: (Georgian)
"We wish peace and prosperity and health to the Pope."
SUPER CAPTION: His Holiness Ilya II, Greek Patriarch
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I'm profoundly grateful to the very divine Providence for this meeting which is taking place almost 20 years after the historic contribution of the catorical Patriarch of the ancient Orthodox Church of Georgia...(unintelligible). At that time we exchanged the holy kiss of peace."

The discovery of the sepulcher of the Apostle Santiago, in the first third of the IX century, compelled many Christians to make pilgrimages to Compostela to worship his relics.
This required the construction of a church. This building, besides guarding and honoring the relics of the Apostle and his disciples Teodoro and Atanasio, had to take in a greater number of pilgrims coming from the Peninsular kingdoms, as well as from the rest of Europe. The purpose of its builders was not only to construct the most perfect church dedicated to the cult of the pilgrims; they wanted to make Compostela a religious and artistic reference for the world, like Rome and Jerusalem.
These are the beginnings of a fascinating story, a fabulous saga spanning centuries carried out
by thousands of people united in their devotion to the figure of the Apostle Santiago, in a remote corner of Finisterre. They called it Compostela: the field of stars.
The present state of the Santiago Cathedral is the result of numerous changes, projects, works, remodeling; in short, an evolving and impassioned architectural and artistic creation developed throughout many centuries.
Pilgrims: seventh part of the documentary The way of ST. James (Camino de Santiago). The Temple of stars.
The Renaissance reached its zenith in Spain in the XVI century and it is evident that the Santiago Cathedral and its surroundings absorbed its influence. This is precisely when the new cloister, substituting the medieval one, was built. Also in the XVI century, the Plaza del Obradoiro begins to take shape when the Hospital Real for pilgrims and the sick is constructed.
The Catholic Monarchs undergo a pilgrimage to Compostela to thank the Apostle Santiago for their conquest of Granada. Seeing firsthand the great number of worshippers, they promote its construction. Currently, it is known as the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, and it is one of the most beautiful buildings of the Spanish Renaissance.
A series of events had caused a reduction in the number of pilgrims to Santiago since the XIV century. The horrifying black plague that decimated the European population, as well as the great schism that divided Catholics in 1378, rang in this crisis. During the XVI century, Martin Luther’s Reformation caused a whole new schism that fully affected Compostelan pilgrimages:
after harshly criticizing this practice, he effectively uprooted Jacobean devotion in central European nations.
In 1589, Archbishop Juan de San Clemente was warned that the pirate Francis Drake had leveled A Coruña in response to the failed invasion of the Spanish Armada.
The Archbishop proceeded to bury – in complete secrecy – the relics of the Apostle behind the main altar of the cathedral. The disappearance of the remains of the Apostle worsened the crisis of the Jacobean route.
Although the Way of St. James managed to recapture part of its prestige in the XVIII century,
a crisis relapsed with the great social changes of the XIX century. The low point came on July 25 1867, when only 40 pilgrims attended the Apostle’s festivity. But during the course of the 1879 dig, canon López Ferreiro found the relics that had remained hidden for three hundred years. In 1884, Pope Leo XIII declared their authenticity and extolled the populace to undertake pilgrimages to the holy sepulcher.
The papal document was key to the revitalization of Jacobean faith. Since then – and until today - an increase in the number of pilgrims to Compostela has not waned.
The visits of Pope John Paul II and later Benedict XVI in the Holy Compostelan year of 2010, surrounded by a fervent multitude of pilgrims from all over the world, are a testimony to the magnificent vitality the Jacobean cult has today.
But notwithstanding all the changes, the works of Peláez and Gelmírez, of Masters Bernardo, Esteban, Mateo, and countless others, still remain unaltered and recognizable. In the spaces within its naves, columns, tribunes, chapels and porticos, the spirit of all those who contributed to its erection is conserved.

STORYLINE:
Pope John Paul II successfully completed the first day of his trip to Armenia on Tuesday, despite his declining health.
As he arrived in Armenia on the fourth day of a foreign tour on Tuesday, Pope John Paul II's frail health was being put to the test again.
And as often before, he appeared to rebound later in the day.
The Pontiff was met at the airport by President Robert Kocharian and Armenian patriarch, Karekin II.
The 81-year-old Pope has wished to visit Armenia for years.
He has scheduled it now so that he may take part in celebrations by the ancient Armenian Apostolic Church marking 1,700 years of Christianity in the Caucasus nation.
In AD 301 Armenia became the world's first country to declare itself Christian.
John Paul said he had come to honor the "extraordinary witness of Christian borne by the Armenian Apostolic Church through so many centuries and not least in the 20th century, which for you was a time of unspeakable terror and suffering."
The Armenian and Catholic churches split in a theological dispute over the divine and human natures of Jesus Christ, arising from the fifth-century Council of Chalcedon.
But the Armenian church has since established friendly relations with both the Vatican and with Orthodox churches.
The Pope continued the trip's emphasis on preventing religious differences from exploding into war and violence, calling for "peace with all men on a solid foundation of mutual respect and justice."
He visited the church's seat in Echmiadzin, 25 kilometers (15 miles) west of the capital Yerevan.
But his hands shook seemingly uncontrollably as he was halfway through his speech in the Apostolic Cathedral.
Later in the evening, the Pope appeared to have bounced back when he visited Karekin's residence.
He seemed in good spirits and waved his cane in the air.
The Pope suffers from symptoms of Parkinson's disease such as trembling hands and slurred speech.
He walks with difficulty and recently has begun wearing a hearing aid at times.
When he left the cathedral, he was assisted by an aide and by the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II.
The pontiff arrived in Armenia from Kazakstan, where he had spent four days.

"It was my brother who I saw. But the reality is that my brother is Cuba's dictator - I suppose because of his position, because of his behaviour, because of the way he has managed the country during the last 38, 39 years. However, I have never stopped thinking of him as my brother, not as a political leader."
SOUNDBITE: ((Spanish) Juanita Castro, Fidel Castro's sister
"It is very difficult to tell you what Fidel is capable of doing now, at this time, when the situation in the country reflects the peoples unhappiness. Who knows? Hopefully the Pope is able to get from him many things. Among them the liberation of many political prisoners. That would be great. At least it would be one of the important steps that could come out of this. I hope the Pope is able to achieve it."

Ven Holhauzer Prophecy 17th century
"During this period many men will abuse this freedom of conscience (heresy) conceded to them. It is of such men that Jude, the Apostle, spoke when he said: these men blaspheme whatever they do not understand; and they corrupt whatever they naturally as irrational animals do. They feast together without restraint, feeding themselves, grumbling murmurs, walking according to their lusts; their mouth speaketh proud things, they admire people for the sake of gain, they bring about division, sensual men, having not the spirit."
During this period there will be laxity in divine and human precepts. Discipline will suffer. The Holy Canons will be completely disrequarded, and the clergy will not respect the Laws of the Church. Everyone will be carried away and led to believe and to do what he fancies according to the manner of the flesh."
America does not have the proper understanding/perception of liberty:
2 Peter 2: 18-19
For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness, those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error: [19] Promising them liberty, whereas they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom a man is overcome, of the same also he is the slave.
St. Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen.

St. Nicholas von Flue (15th century)
“The Church will be punished because the majority of Her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until She will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired. But, after this, She will be victoriously exalted in the sight of all doubters.”
The Neo-SSPX is trying incorporate itself back into the Conciliar Church but what does the Church say about"familiarity" with those not holding the Catholic Faith?
Quote against pseudo traditionalists, neo-sspx:
"Everyone should avoid familiarity or friendship with anyone suspected of belonging to masonry or to affiliated groups. Know them by their fruits and avoid them. Every familiarity should be avoided, not only with those impious libertines who openly promote the character of the sect, but also with those who hide under the mask of UNIVERSAL TOLERANCE, RESPECT FOR ALL RELIGIONS, and the craving to reconcile the maxims of the Gospel with those of the revolution. These men seek to reconcile Christ and Belial, the Church of God and the state without God.”
Pope Leo XIII, Custodi Di Quella Fede (# 15), Dec. 8, 1892

Debate #1: The Perpetual Virginity of Mary the Mother of Jesus, Rob Zins vs. Gerry Matatics
Larry Wessels, director of Christian Answers of Austin, Texas/ Christian Debater (YouTube channel: CANSWERSTV; see our playlist "Dealing with Roman Catholicism, Idolatry & the Virgin Mary" with over 129 videos at http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFFA8D69D1B914715&feature;=plcp; websites: http://www.BIBLEQUERY.ORG, http://www.HISTORYCART.COM & http://www.MUSLIMHOPE.COM) presents a debate between former Roman Catholic Rob Zins, Th.M, Dallas Theological Seminary (website: http://www.CWRC-RZ.ORG, Rob Zins has authored the books, "On the Edge of Apostasy," "Romanism: The Relentless Roman Catholic Assault on the Gospel of Jesus Christ" & others) versus Roman Catholic apologist Gerry Matatics who was associated with Karl Keating & Catholic Answers, has been associated with sedevacantism (similar to what is found at the Roman Catholic site http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com/ - for more on this see the video "The Homosexual Pope, Priests, Universalists, Evolutionists & Disunited Roman Catholic Apologists" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hThonwrX6QU&list;=PLFFA8D69D1B914715&index;=10), the first PCA minister ever to become Roman Catholic, Founder & President of Biblical Foundations International.
The perpetual virginity of Mary asserts Mary's "real and perpetual virginity even in the act of giving birth to Jesus the Son of God made Man".[2][3] According to the doctrine, Mary was ever-virgin (Greek: ἀειπάρθενος aeiparthenos) for the whole of her life, making Jesus her only biological son, whose conception and birth are held to be miraculous.[2][3]
By the fourth century, the doctrine was widely supported by the Church Fathers, and by the seventh century it had been affirmed in a number of ecumenical councils.[4][5][6] The doctrine is part of the teaching of Catholicism and Anglo-Catholics, as well as Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, as expressed in their liturgies, in which they repeatedly refer to Mary as "ever virgin".[7][8][9]
Some early Protestant reformers such as Martin Luther supported the doctrine, and founding figures of Anglicanism such as Hugh Latimer and Thomas Cranmer "followed the tradition that they had inherited by accepting Mary as 'ever virgin'".[10] Reformed teaching, however, largely abandoned it.[11][12] The doctrine of perpetual virginity is currently maintained by many Anglican and Lutheran theologians.[7][13][14][15] In addition, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, affirmed the perpetual virginity of Mary. (see our video "JOHN WESLEY, FOUNDER OF METHODISM & AN ARMINIAN, SAID HE DID NOT LOVE GOD & WAS "AN HONEST HEATHEN" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Vo3ljr7ccs).

Incarceration: A VICE Panel, Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2015
What are prisons for, and how did they become a growth industry?
Featuring: Chris Munro, Eric Schlosser and Debbie Kilroy
John Safran (Chair)
Chris Munro was the Managing Editor of Tracker Magazine, Australia's most read Aboriginal Affairs publication which was shut down in 2014. Prior to this he was the Political Editor for the National Indigenous Television news team based at Parliament House and a reporter for the National Indigenous Times newspaper. Chris currently works as a freelance journalist.
As an investigative journalist, Eric Schlosser continues to explore subjects ignored by the mainstream media and gives a voice to people at the margins of society. He’s followed the harvest with migrant farm workers in California, spent time with meatpacking workers in Texas and Colorado, told the stories of marijuana growers and pornographers and victims of violent crime, gone on duty with the NYPD Bomb Squad, and visited prisons throughout the US. Schlosser’s first book, Fast Food Nation (2001), helped start a revolution in how Americans think about what they eat. His second book, Reefer Madness (2003), looked at America’s thriving underground economy. Both were New York Times bestsellers. His most recent book, Command and Control (2013), examines the efforts of the military, since the atomic era began during World War II, to prevent nuclear weapons from being stolen, sabotaged, or detonated by accident. Command and Control was a New York Times Notable Book, a Time Magazine Top 10 Nonfiction Book, was a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize (History) and also received the Gold Medal Award (Nonfiction) from the 2013 California Book Awards.
Debbie Kilroy was imprisoned for drug trafficking in 1989 for 6 years. She was stabbed and witnessed the only murder inside an Australian women’s prison, and lost almost everything: her marriage, her home and her children. After her release in 1992, she established Sisters Inside, which advocates for the human rights of women in the criminal injustice system. Sisters Inside has won international acclaim for its work and for a unique structure which ensures it is driven by women inside prison. Debbie was awarded the OAM for services to the community for working with women in prison 2003 and in 2004 she was awarded the National Human Rights Medal. She has a degree in social work and is a qualified gestalt therapist. Debbie was the first person in Australian who has serious convictions to be admitted by the Supreme Court of Queensland to practice law in 2007.
John Safran (chair) is an award-winning documentary-maker of provocative and hilarious takes on race, the media, religion and other issues.

PLAN:
0' 03" Préparations doctrinales (Duns Scot, concile de Trente)
10' 20'' Contexte du XIX° siècle (occultisme, philosophies)
15' 18" Le dogme (1854)
18' 05" Pie X et Pie XII
20' 10" Vatican II
23' 42" Jean Paul II

02 SERIE HÉROES DE LA FE "Los Reformadores"
