Shortly after she was appointed health minister in 2013, she announced her plans to end public fluoridation once and for all. However, following a wave of backlash from public health experts and government officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, she mandated that fluoridation would only continue for population centers that opted for the program.
The program, which had been opted into by local authorities of 5.3 million residents, has no longer become optional, as German officially announced her decision to discontinue fluoridation on August 26.

I've never cared much for billboards. Not in the city, not out of the city — not anywhere, really. It's like the saying in that old Five Man Electrical Band song. So when the creative director of an ad agency in Peru sent me a picture of what he claimed was the first billboard that produces potable water from air, my initial reaction was: gotta be a hoax, or at best, a gimmick.
Except it's neither: The billboard pictured here is real, it's located in Lima, Peru, and it produces around 100 liters of water a day (about 26 gallons) from nothing more than humidity, a basic filtration system and a little gravitational ingenuity.
Let's talk about Lima for a moment, the largest city in Peru and the fifth largest in all of the Americas, with some 7.6 million people (closer to 9 million when you factor in the surrounding metro area). Because it sits along the southern Pacific Ocean, the humidity in the city averages 83% (it's actually closer to 100% in the mornings). But Lima is also part of what's called a coastal desert: It lies at the northern edge of the Atacama, the driest desert in the world, meaning the city sees perhaps half an inch of precipitation annually (Lima is the second largest desert city in the world after Cairo). Lima thus depends on drainage from the Andes as well as runoff from glacier melt — both sources on the decline because of climate change.
Enter the University of Engineering and Technology of Peru (UTEC), which was looking for something splashy to kick off its application period for 2013 enrollment. It turned to ad agency Mayo DraftFCB, which struck on the idea of a billboard that would convert Lima's H2O-saturated air into potable water. And then they actually built one.
It's not entirely self-sufficient, requiring electricity (it's not clear how much) to power the five devices that comprise the billboard's inverse osmosis filtration system, each device responsible for generating up to 20 liters. The water is then transported through small ducts to a central holding tank at the billboard's base, where you'll find — what else? — a water faucet. According to Mayo DraftFCB, the billboard has already produced 9,450 liters of water (about 2,500 gallons) in just three months, which it says equals the water consumption of "hundreds of families per month." Just imagine what dozens, hundreds or even thousands of these things, strategically placed in the city itself or outlying villages, might do. And imagine what you could accomplish in any number of troubled spots around the world that need potable water with a solution like this.

Mayo DraftFCB says it dropped the billboard along the Pan-American Highway at kilometer marker 89.5 when summer started (in December, mind you — Lima's south of the equator) and that it's designed to inspire young Peruvians to study engineering at UTEC while simultaneously illustrating how advertising can be more than just an eyesore. (Done and done, I'd say.)
"We wanted future students to see how engineers can also solve social needs in daily basis kinds of situations," said Alejandro Aponte, creative director at Mayo DraftFCB.
The city's residents could certainly use the help. According to a 2011 The Independent piece ominously titled "The desert city in serious danger of running dry," about 1.2 million residents of Lima lack running water entirely, depending on unregulated private-company water trucks to deliver the goods — companies that charge up to 30 soles (US $10) per cubic meter of H2O, or as The Independent notes, 20 times what more well-off residents pay for their tapwater.

I've never cared much for billboards. Not in the city, not out of the city — not anywhere, really. It's like the saying in that old Five Man Electrical Band song. So when the creative director of an ad agency in Peru sent me a picture of what he claimed was the first billboard that produces potable water from air, my initial reaction was: gotta be a hoax, or at best, a gimmick. Except it's neither: The billboard pictured here is real, it's located in Lima, Peru, and it produces around 100 liters of water a day (about 26 gallons) from nothing more than humidity, a basic filtration system and a little gravitational ingenuity.
Let's talk about Lima for a moment, the largest city in Peru and the fifth largest in all of the Americas, with some 7.6 million people (closer to 9 million when you factor in the surrounding metro area). Because it sits along the southern Pacific Ocean, the humidity in the city averages 83% (it's actually closer to 100% in the mornings). But Lima is also part of what's called a coastal desert: It lies at the northern edge of the Atacama, the driest desert in the world, meaning the city sees perhaps half an inch of precipitation annually (Lima is the second largest desert city in the world after Cairo). Lima thus depends on drainage from the Andes as well as runoff from glacier melt — both sources on the decline because of climate change.
Enter the University of Engineering and Technology of Peru (UTEC), which was looking for something splashy to kick off its application period for 2013 enrollment. It turned to ad agency Mayo DraftFCB, which struck on the idea of a billboard that would convert Lima's H2O-saturated air into potable water. And then they actually built one.
It's not entirely self-sufficient, requiring electricity (it's not clear how much) to power the five devices that comprise the billboard's inverse osmosis filtration system, each device responsible for generating up to 20 liters. The water is then transported through small ducts to a central holding tank at the billboard's base, where you'll find — what else? — a water faucet. According to Mayo DraftFCB, the billboard has already produced 9,450 liters of water (about 2,500 gallons) in just three months, which it says equals the water consumption of "hundreds of families per month." Just imagine what dozens, hundreds or even thousands of these things, strategically placed in the city itself or outlying villages, might do. And imagine what you could accomplish in any number of troubled spots around the world that need potable water with a solution like this.

Mayo DraftFCB says it dropped the billboard along the Pan-American Highway at kilometer marker 89.5 when summer started (in December, mind you — Lima's south of the equator) and that it's designed to inspire young Peruvians to study engineering at UTEC while simultaneously illustrating how advertising can be more than just an eyesore. (Done and done, I'd say.)
"We wanted future students to see how engineers can also solve social needs in daily basis kinds of situations," said Alejandro Aponte, creative director at Mayo DraftFCB.
The city's residents could certainly use the help. According to a 2011 The Independent piece ominously titled "The desert city in serious danger of running dry," about 1.2 million residents of Lima lack running water entirely, depending on unregulated private-company water trucks to deliver the goods — companies that charge up to 30 soles (US $10) per cubic meter of H2O, or as The Independent notes, 20 times what more well-off residents pay for their tapwater.

The following is a list of things to do in Israel with a focus on the top attractions in this travel guide:
1) Regardless of whether you can swim (or not swim) well you will most certainly float when visiting the Dead Sea. Covering yourself in gooey mud and joining others floating is one of the top attractions in Israel.
2) No trip to Israel would be complete without sampling the local cuisine and especially the street food. With this in mind we walked all the way from our hotel room in Tel Aviv to Jaffa - an ancient city renowned for its amazing hummus and other street food. Aside from just hummus we were able to try Shaksouka, cheese stuffed pastries, malabi and kanafeh.
3) Having the opportunity to take a tour of the West Bank (or Palestine) is an eye opening experience. Media coverage, from the perspective of the west, often depicts this area as being quite unruly and poor; however, a tour there really dispels a lot of myths. We had the opportunity to eat falafel, walking around the streets and get a real sense of what life is like in this region. Some highlights included visiting Sheppard's Field, the Jordan River and oldest city in the world - Jericho. To end our trip we drank beer at the West Bank Palestinian brewery.
4) Getting off the beaten track a little we visited Rosh Hanikra. Known as the window to the Mediterranean we were treated to breathtaking views and an amazing sunset.
5) Aside from just eating our way around Jaffa, we took the time to properly explore it on foot. One of the top highlights was visiting a traditional flea market,
6) Taking the cable car up to visit Masada was a welcome relief considering how hot it was on the day we visited. As we wandered about we visited an old water cistern and Byzantine church.
7) Caesarea! The ruins of the ancient city once given from Agus Caesar to Harrod the Great was an experience we'll never forget. Walking around in the Hippodrome allowed me to visualize what the old chariot races must have been like.
8) One of my favorite meals in Israel was prepared by a Druze family. This amazing feast, in the form of a buffet, featured kebabs, olives, chicken and stuffed cabbage just to name a few.
9) Wondering wear to rest your sleepy head while traveling in Israel? Look no further than the Fauzi Azar Inn in Nazareth. This converted Arab Mansion.
10) One of the more frontier attractions was visiting Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. We toured around the Banias Reserve and Mount Bental.
11) Considering how tasty the food is in Israel it would be a shame to leave without knowing how to recreate these delectable delights back home in your own kitchen. Fortunately, for us, we were able to take a cooking class at Dan Gourmet in Tel Aviv. We learned how to make Lahmacun and charred eggplant amongst other dishes.
12) Have you ever wondered how olive oil is made? Visiting an olive press answered our all of our questions and made us appreciate the craft of making this high quality cooking oil. For the best vantage point of Nazareth we headed to Mount Precipice for panoramic 360 degree views. Finally, we visited Haifa to check out the famous Bahá'í gardens.

STORYLINE :
Residents of parts of Gaza are suffering from a lack in clean drinking water, according to one water company, because the company is running short of the chemicals need to purify otherwise undrinkable water.
Areas like Beit Lahia and southern parts of Gaza are said to be affected by the lack of clean water.
The shortage in the chemicals is because of the Israel's ongoing closure of crossing points between Gaza and Israel.
One of the directors of Gaza coastal municipalities water utility Munzir Shublak said on Sunday they are having trouble supplying clean water because they are suffering many power cuts and also because the chlorine used in the water purification process is not getting through to them.
Shublak said despite the closures he thinks essential items such as chlorine should be allowed through to help the people of Gaza.
Many local people are now drinking from wells and using dirty water as there is not enough clean water in the area.
Israel and Egypt have restricted movement through Gaza's border crossings since the Islamic militant Hamas seized control in June 2007.
Since then, closures have been eased or tightened, depending on the security situation.
Earlier this month, it tightened the blockade in response to rocket fire.
The latest closures led to widespread power blackouts, disrupted water supplies and caused severe shortages of cooking gas and flour.
On Monday, Israel allowed in 30 trucks of food and medicine.

"As a result of the continuous cut in the electricity in the power plants, we are facing a serious problem, in keeping and providing the population of its essential need of water supplies. In addition to that we are facing now a problem in treating the produced waste water in various locations, like Beit Lahia, in Gaza and the southern areas. This is in link with the continuous closure of Gaza's commissioned borders which resulted to a severe shortage in our material for operation and maintenance."

STORYLINE :
Residents of parts of Gaza are suffering from a lack in clean drinking water, according to one water company, because the company is running short of the chemicals need to purify otherwise undrinkable water.
Areas like Beit Lahia and southern parts of Gaza are said to be affected by the lack of clean water.
The shortage in the chemicals is because of the Israel's ongoing closure of crossing points between Gaza and Israel.
One of the directors of Gaza coastal municipalities water utility Munzir Shublak said on Sunday they are having trouble supplying clean water because they are suffering many power cuts and also because the chlorine used in the water purification process is not getting through to them.
Shublak said despite the closures he thinks essential items such as chlorine should be allowed through to help the people of Gaza.
Many local people are now drinking from wells and using dirty water as there is not enough clean water in the area.
Israel and Egypt have restricted movement through Gaza's border crossings since the Islamic militant Hamas seized control in June 2007.
Since then, closures have been eased or tightened, depending on the security situation.
Earlier this month, it tightened the blockade in response to rocket fire.
The latest closures led to widespread power blackouts, disrupted water supplies and caused severe shortages of cooking gas and flour.
On Monday, Israel allowed in 30 trucks of food and medicine.

Then, continues through the Upper and Lower Galilee, Genisaretsky lake, Carmel's mountain, the Mediterranean coast, Judaic mountains and the Negev desert. The trail comes to an end in Eilat, on the bank of the Red Sea.

There they can visit historical places, see the ruins of the ancient Nabeyskih and Roman fortifications, as well as archeological excavations areas.
A part of the trail goes on sites of the road constructed by Romans. In places where Hebrew prophets lived and preached. Where Jesus Christ and the Apostles extended the Good News. To travel along this trail gives the unique chance to walk in their footsteps. And exactly as they did it - by foot.
The landscape of the Shvil Israel trail varies a lot along the way. Mountains and craters, ravines and fields, gorges and sandy barkhans, date groves and beaches, pastures and orchards, rivers and lakes, streams and underground sources. There is everything. The only thing missing is, drinking water.
In Israel, they drink the sea water that is freshened at special stations. This water is not as tasty as natural water. But it is safe to drink it. The crude water is used only in exceptional cases— for example, for waterings the fruit trees. There are warning signs to indicate when the water is not drinkable.
There are probably more reserves in Israel, than in any other country of the world. If, of course, to judge by their quantity, not by the territory occupied by them. Even if there are only three trees growing together — it is already considered a national park. The biggest reserves, according to their area, are in the Negev desert.
In reserves, it is forbidden to pick grass and flowers, to cut trees, to make fire, to establish tents and even to stay overnight on their territory. In big national parks, that can't be crossed in one day, there are special allocated platforms for camping. And still, it is forbidden to be make fire.
The trail is marked by three-colored signs. The three stripes, by their color and arrangement, have strong resemblance with the Russian flag. But this similarity is only accidental. Colors have other symbolic meaning. White is the mountain Hemron. Blue — Tiberias Lake. Orange — the Negev desert.
There are a lot of trails in Israel, most divers. They are marked by the blue, green, black and red color codes. Sometimes the trail of Israel partially coincides with some other walking route. When this happens, it is necessary to go by the two-color marks instead of three.
The best seasons to track the trail are spring and fall. It is too hot in summer and too wet and cold in winter.
Shvil Israel trail can be walked during the term of 40 to 60 days, depending on your level of physical training. The authors of the guide with the popular name the"Red List", recommend to do it in 48 days, and allocate a few days for rest and sightseeing.

They are accessed so, that if having started the trail from early morning, the hiker could by the evening, reach the place where there is a hotel, an organized camping or at least a platform for the tent. Over-extraction from Gaza’s only freshwater aquifer and the intrusion of seawater, coupled with the seepage of agricultural fertilizers and untreated sewage has resulted in levels of chloride and nitrates up to three times the World Health Organization’s recommended standards. A UN report this year has warned that as Gaza’s population increases from 1.6 million to 2.1 million by 2020, the damage to the aquifer will be irreversible and the territory will be uninhabitable. This is while the water from the aquifer and wells in Gaza is already highly saline, with a high concentration of sodium nitrate. These problems have made life extremely difficult for the residence of Gaza. And the health risks are serious. This documentary provides a comprehensive investigation into the Gaza Strip’s water crisis.
