A work song is a piece of music closely connected to a specific form of work, either sung while conducting a task (often to coordinate timing) or a song linked to a task or trade which might be a connected narrative, description, or protest song.
Records of work songs are roughly as old as historical records, and anthropological evidence suggests that all agrarian societies tend to have them. Most modern commentators on work songs have included both songs sung while working as well as songs about work, since the two categories are seen as interconnected. Norm Cohen divided collected work songs into domestic, agricultural or pastoral, sea shanties, African American (gang) worksongs, songs and chants of direction and street cries. Ted Gioia further divided agricultural and pastorals songs into hunting, cultivation and herding songs, and highlighted the industrial or proto-industrial songs of cloth workers, factory workers, seamen, lumberjacks, cowboys and miners. He also added prisoner songs and modern work songs.
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Perry grew up with gospel music, and during her first year of high school she pursued a music career as Katy Hudson, releasing her first studio album called Katy Hudson which failed to chart. She recorded a solo album later, which was never released. After signing with Capitol Music Group in 2007, her fourth record label in seven years, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry.
She first gained recognition with the release of her first mainstream album, One of the Boys in 2008, which spawned three Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs—"I Kissed A Girl", "Hot n Cold" and "Waking Up In Vegas". Perry supported the album with her Hello Katy Tour. In 2010, her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010), which topped the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned five number one singles—"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T." and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"—Teenage Dream was the only album (after Michael Jackson's Bad)—to do so, and the first female in history to achieve this milestone. She embarked on the California Dreams Tour, which grossed nearly $60 million worldwide. Perry re-released the album under the name of Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection on March 26, 2012, and the re-release has already spawned the number-one single "Part of Me".
Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American recording artist and entertainer. Born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, Spears began performing as a child, landing acting roles in stage productions and television shows. She signed with Jive Records in 1997 and released her debut album ...Baby One More Time in 1999, which became the best-selling album by a teenage solo artist. During her first decade in the music industry, she became a prominent figure in mainstream popular music and popular culture, followed by a much-publicized personal life. Her first two albums established her as a pop icon and broke sales records, while title tracks "...Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again" became international number-one hits. Spears was credited with influencing the revival of teen pop during the late 1990s, and became the 'best-selling teen aged artist of all time' before she turned 20, garnering her the honorific title of "Princess of Pop".

Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Breaking rocks and serving my time
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Because they done convicted me of crime
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
I commited crime Lord I needed
Crime of being hungry and poor
I left the grocery store man bleeding (breathing?)
When they caught me robbing his store
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
Well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
I heard the judge say five years
On chain-gang you gonna go
I heard the judge say five years labor
I heard my old man scream "Lordy, no!"
Hold it right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
working and working
but I still got so terribly far to go
Gonna see my sweet honey bee
Gonna break this chain off to run
Gonna lay down somewhere shady
Lord I sure am hot in the sun
Hold it right there while I hit it
well reckon that ought to get it
been
workin' and workin'
been
workin' and slavin'
workin' and workin'
Yeah!
It's another early morning,
sun came up without no warning.
Never do-a nothing till I'm showered and clean.
Got my pager, got my cuffs,
a matching tie should be enough,
I never leave my house without-a something to eat.
Early riser by genetic,
take the stairs 'cause I'm athletic.
Always at the office before anyone else.
I take my faxes to be copied,
grab a donut, grab some coffee,
picture my diploma sitting on my shelf.
And the monotony is killing me and I, try, to deny,
this corporate labotomy. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
I need a suit of armor for a meeting,
knowing I'm gonna take a beating.
Understaffed and my department's in a crunch.
Budget has become a hassle,
boss is ripping me a new asshole,
says he wants an answer on his desk before lunch.
Afternoon things don't look better,
phone machine is breaking records,
500 messages from who knows where.
Staying late 'cause I'm a beginner,
call my girlfriend cancel dinner,
says she thinks I'm having an office affair. Yeah! Yeah!
The end of the day, there's no solution,
Faster traffic and pollution,
put a smille on my face, I didn't get fired.
That can only clear my head,
I grab a drink, fall into bed,
40 more years until I get to retire. Oh, oh!
'Cause the monotony is killing me and I, try to deny,

You gotta have a Work Song. A song to help you make it Through the day.
You gotta have a Work Song. A song we can sing along while we work and pray.
You gotta have a Work Song. A song so that Jesus can help you find a way.
We've made up our mind. We're gomma make it work this time.
May the good lord hear us singing through the day.
You gotta have a Love Song.
So you can walk through the fields and the valleys, hills and plains,
You gotta have a Love Song.
A song to make you feel good when it rains.
You gotta have a Love Song.
When your laughing and crying and livin' and feelin'no pain.
Cause the Love Jesus gave. You and I we will be saved.
And the promise that he made wont be in vain.
chorous
When the cold cold winter wind blows through my soul.
I remember how he died on Gallilee.
To live and die for Jesus is my only goal.
All I ask is that you pray for me.
You gotta have a praise song.
A song to make you jump, shout and sing.
You gotta have a praise song.
Let the good times roll, Lord let the church bells ring.
You gotta have a Praise song.
A song to fly like a Angel on the wing.
Cause the Love that Jesus gave.
You and I we will be saved.
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang?
Breaking rocks and serving my time

Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang

Because they done convicted me of crime
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
Well reckon that ought to get it
Been working and working
But I still got so terribly far to go

Lord I sure am hot in the sun
Hold it right there while I hit it

Been workin’ and workin’
Been workin’ and slavin’
An’ workin’ and workin’
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Breaking rocks and serving my time
Breaking rocks out here on the chain gang
Because they done convicted me of crime
Hold it steady right there while I hit it
Well, reckon that ought to get it
Been working and working
But I still got so terribly far to go
I committed crime Lord I needed
Crime of being hungry and poor

Lord, I sure am hot in the sun
Hold it right there while I hit it
Well, reckon that ought to get it
Been workin' and workin'
Been workin' and slavin'
An' workin' and workin'
There is a stone
And 100 yards away
There is a rock
There is a house
And on the other side
There is a stream
Where we cool our feet
When we get home
(Chorus:)
When we get home
Home from work
When we get home from work
Victorville
Seems so far away
Out on the edge
Of the Mojave
We light a fire
With tumble weeds
Cast out our shadows
Like Joshua trees
(Chorus)
Every night
At 10pm
We find a bed
Lay down our heads
The warm wind blows
Against the window shade
And we dream about
Moving away
You can play the lottery
I can use my hands for praying
I'm not sure what I believe
But we've got a lot of paying to do
Working in this tired row
Only thing we've got in common
Buy me out so I can go
I believe I'm made for something
Every day's a battle to get up
every day I put on a smile
And every day it wears off
Every day I feel like telling the same people to shut up
Oh, it's so tough to love
with no love
I feel so misunderstood
I guess that it's my curse in life
Hope that I can do some good
With all the tears I've never cried
Could you hold my heavy heart
Could you make it better soon?
Promise not to let it drop
I don't think I'll get a new
Every day's a battle to get up
every day I put on a smile
And every day it wears off
Every day I feel like telling the same people to shut up
Oh, it's so tough to love
Deliver the paper deliver the porn
Deliver the baker deliver the morn
A quiverin' jibberin' shiverin' mass
Of sunshine and good times that I have to pass
On the way to my job on the way to my work
On the way to that slobberin' hoverin' jerk
Who's my boss today
Who's my boss to stay
Who's my supervisor when I'm in my grave
A slave on the run still under the gun
Of Attila the Hun with a cinnamon bun
I don't know son, was there somethin' I missed
I don't think Fritz Lang was a fantasist
Metropolis exists is this
If you listen close you can hear the piss
Every day's another loss
Need the pay so please the boss
Through the sludge they mingle by the mile
Every worker looks ahead
Ah the kiddies must be fed
So they trudge along in single file
Joo ming boohaaooo
And you turn and you toil
And you burn and you boil
In the tourniquet coil
Of the white folks' soil
Spoilin' with a malaise worse than disses or dope
Wakin' up in a haze
With your wishes and hopes
And your poor little dreams
All wrapped up in burlap
That you carry around
For a sniff or a snack
Or a taste in your haste
To get right back on track
Outta whack with the pack
But acquiring the knack
Of ignoring the rustle
That quietly seethes
The hustle, the buy-it
The air that you breathe
