Delhi (/ˈdɛli/; locally pronounced Dillee or Dehli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the largest metropolis by area and the second-largest metropolis by population in India. It is the eighth largest metropolis in the world by population with 16.7 million inhabitants in the Territory at the 2011 Census. The region has been given special status of National Capital Region under The Constitution (69th Amendment) Act, 1991. There are nearly 22.2 million residents in the greater National Capital Region urban area (which also includes the cities Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon,Sonepat and Faridabad along with other smaller nearby towns).
Delhi is known to have been continuously inhabited since at least the 6th century BCE, though human habitation is believed to have existed since the second millennium BCE. Delhi is also widely believed to have been the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas during the times of the Mahabharata. Delhi re-emerged as a major political, cultural and commercial city along the trade routes between northwest India and the Gangetic plain after the rise of the Delhi sultanates. It is the site of many ancient and medieval monuments, archaeological sites and remains.

2. ISKCON Hare Krishna Temple - I had never seen a temple like this before, so it as an interesting experience to hear the music and walk around the interior of the temple.
3. Kalkaji Mandir Hindu Temple - This temple is a very important Hindu temple in Delhi and while I was there, there were a number of babies being dedicated by being decorated and blessed.
4. Jama Masjid - Located in Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in all of Delhi. Though they will attempt to get money from you, it's free to enter the mosque, but if you want to take photos inside they will charge you 300 rupees.
5. Akshardham Temple - This modern Hindu temple located on the outskirts of Delhi literally made my jaw drop, it's that amazing. It's free to enter, but unfortunately, they don't allow any photography inside. This is one of the things to do in Delhi that you cannot afford to miss!
6. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (Sikh Temple) - Unlike some other sites in Delhi where you'll find many touts and hustlers, the Gurdwara Sikh Temple is about the nicest and most friendly place you can go in Delhi. People are extremely nice and you can enter the temple to listen to music.
7. Laxmi Narayan Mandir -- Dedicated by Mahatma Gandhi, this is one of the most significant Hindu temples in Delhi.
8. Hauz Khas Complex - I'm always amazed at the history of Delhi and Hauz Khas is an excellent example of ancient monuments in the middle of a public park.
9. Lodi Gardens - As a free entrance public park, visiting the Lodi Gardens is one of the most amazing things to do in Delhi. It's just like an ordinary park, but it's filled with thousand year old tombs and monuments that are truly inspirational.
10. India Gate - The war memorial is one of the landmarks of Delhi and resembles the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
11. Jantar Mantar - The Jantar Mantar complex is a compound that houses 13 different astronomy instruments. The structures are confusing to look at, but if you read or follow a guide (or audio guide) you'll understand how each instrument functioned.
12. Qutub Minar - Just like Akshardham Temple, Qutub Minar is one of the top things to do in Delhi, it's truly remarkable. The minaret is the main attraction, a huge pillar of red carved sandstone that towers above the ancient ruins in the complex.
13. Humayun's Tomb - One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Delhi is Humayun's Tomb, built in Mughal Islamic architecture.
14. Tomb of Safdarjung - Very similar to Humayun's tomb is the tomb of Safdarjung. What I really liked is that there were no other tourists the day I went so it was quite and peaceful.
15. Red Fort - Located near Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi is the Red Fort. It's an entire walled in city where you can walk around the browse the many buildings within the walls.
16. Raj Ghat - The Raj Ghat is a memorial park dedicated to Gandhi.
17. Chandni Chowk & Chawri Bazar - The liveliest and busiest area of Delhi is Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar. I think it's possible to purchase anything from the entire world in this area, and you'll also find lots of delicious food.
18. Dilli Haat - This handicraft village was set up by the Delhi tourism authority and it's a decent place to purchase souvenirs or high quality crafts. You'll also find a food court that contains canteens serving food from all over India.
19. Connaught Place (Rajiv Chowk) - Known for short as just CP is a huge series of roundabouts and is the central modern business district of Delhi. Within the area you'll find all sorts of shops, famous restaurants and the Palika Bazar, an underground shopping center.
20. Paharganj (Main Bazar) - The main bazar is located just west of the New Delhi railroad station and it's an old area of town where you'll find a market and lots of budget accommodation options.
21. Delhi Street Food - Eating street food is one of the best things to do in Delhi, you'll love it.

Traveling Tips for India (New Delhi, India Travel Video)
With some great travel tips, Udayan helps you navigate through the exciting and overwhelming India.
What are some practical and useful tips you should know when traveling to New Delhi, India or another city in India?
Despite India developing rapidly, it still does not have most of the infrastructure and amenities that are so common in the western world. Following a few handy travel tips might make travel for you a whole lot easier while you are in India.
First, if you are taking a taxi from the airport, make sure it is a registered taxi. The best option is to take a prepaid taxi. If that is not available, you should fix the price or make sure that the meter is working. Do not wait till reaching your destination for deciding on the price even if your driver insists on doing so. This applies not only the transportation from the airport but any transportation in gerneral.
If you are traveling within India there are quite a few transportation options available. In India transportation ranges from the pragmatic to the imaginative. Within Delhi the metros the best way to travel. So if you are going somewhere, check if there is a metro route that can get you there. For short distances autos are generally a good bet. Unless the meter is not working. In which case you should find out what the correct rate is from the hotel you are staying at or from the person you are staying with.
If you plan to be sight seeing throughout the day, it is probably a good idea to get an air conditioned cab like this one. Especially so if it is summer. These cabs are generally cheap but check on the prices with your hotel or with the person you are staying with. Just incase. You might want to rent your own car to drive around here. But if you are not used to the streets in Delhi, it is not a recommended option. Always try and get bottled water instead of tap water in this country. Bottled water is widely available. But when you are buying it make sure that the top is sealed.
India has some great street food. But travelers should avoid eating it. If you are really keen, there is some upscale resturants that serve traditional fast food, that is actually hygenic. India has the finest hotels in the whole world. You will find attention and service here of levels far receding often those, even in the West. People here, from the concierge to the bell boy, will be more than willing to help you, even with your smallest bits of luggage. However, there is a slight catch. They all want to be tipped. Fortunately ten or tweenty rupee notes will do the trick, sometimes.
This here is a tweenty rupee note. This is a ten rupee note. This is hundred and this is five hundred. It is always a good idea to have as many as possible of these, that is a ten rupee ad a tweenty rupee note, for tipping and for just about everything else. When you ask somebody for dirrections it is always a good idea to ask somebody else, just to confirm. It is not that somebody wants to give you wrong dirrections or wants to ruin your day, it is just that sometimes people want to be way too helpful.
Most upscale and midscale hotels in the country provide you with basic accessories, like tissue paper and toilet paper. However, if you are putting up in one of those cheaper or small town accomodations you might not want to take these things for granted. All these essentials are available widely across the country. In general stores like the one behind my back. In India, getting your laundry done is not a hastle at all. Laundry takes a day. And the shirts can be ironed within the space of a few minutes. You need not worry about your laundry because it will not take more than a dollar. Getting your shirts wrinkled up is not too much of a hastle.
Always bargin in the market place. Unless you are in a fixed price shop. It is not a good idea to give beggers around the place money. Even if you are tempted too. It just incourages the wrong sort of placement. And anyways the money always goes to someone else and not exactly the person you paid the money. Avoid going to quiet and lonely areas if you are a woman. Dressing conservative is probably the best option. Medical help here is cheaper than any place else and widely available, at least in the cities. However, get a medical refference, like you get anywhere else, before you go to the facility.
When you are traveling back, I will equate enough time to make sure that you get to the airport on time. Even when you travel back late at night you are likely to encounter a traffic jam. Especially when you are traveling from central Delhi to say the airport. Take about an hour at hand but buffer some time in for traffic jams. With these tips you can enjoy a more comfortable, safer and healthier stay in the country. And get around to what is the most important, enjoying the immense beauty and culture you find here. This is Udayan showing you India.

Kairali Resorts, just outside Delhi, provides ayurvedic services to its customers. "Ayurveda is an Indian traditional science, it is a science where it treats the body. It does not treat the disease, it treats the body as a whole. It has two aspects in it, the wellness, that is the preventive aspect of Ayurveda, and the curative aspect."
Ayurveda is a form of an alternative medicine that has been used in parts of India for over centuries now. The emphasis is on physical, mental and spiritual harmony. I am now going to start the treatments and the first one they are going to begin with is Abhyangam, followed by the two that is bundle massage and Shirodhara.
"Simple treatment like Abhyangam which is a general body massage. It starts from top to toe massaging the body with two people synchronizingly massaging the body for a period of 45 minutes. Followed by Shirodhara. That is a popular treatment." And now I will be going for my head massage which is basically very imperative even for any treatment, be it Abhyangam, be it the Bundle massage or be it Shirodhara.
"The next of it Shirodhara, which is pouring of the oil on the forehead continuously and your body is take care of." You do not know how they work it, but it is such a beautiful sensation on your forehead, must try for everybody visiting India, especially Delhi. I am Pinky Nigam showing you Delhi.

And now I will be going for my head massage which is basically very imperative even for any treatment, be it Abhyangam, be it the Bundle massage or be it Shirodhara.

VRINDAVAN CHANDRODAYA MANDIR - THE TALLEST TEMPLE IN THE WORLD.
INDIA HAS BEEN THE FOUNTAIN OF SPIRITUALITY.
ABOUT THE TEMPLE.
Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir is the world’s tallest temple under-construction at Vrindavan, Mathura, India. At cost of INR300 crore (US$49 million) it will be one of the most expensively built temple in world by ISKCON. It was conceived by the devotees of ISKCON-Bangalore. The temple has a footprint of about 5 acres and rises to a height of about 700 feet (213 meters or 70 floors) and a built-up area of 5,40,000 sq. ft. The temple is planned to be vibrant with festivals and religious activities throughout the year. A look-alike of the verdant forests of Vrindavan will be recreated around this magnificent temple. It will be spread over a sprawling 26 acres, it will consist of the twelve forests (dvadashakanana) of Braj, with varieties of lush vegetation, green pastures, elegant vistas of fruit bearing trees, flower laden creepers serenaded by bird songs, clear water lakes with lotuses and lilies and water falls that tumble from small artificial hillocks – all recreated from descriptions in the SrimadBhagavatam and other source books of Lord Sri Krishna – to transport the visitors to Krishna’s times in Vrindavan. The project is set in 62 acres of land and will includes 12 acres for parking and a helipad.
The structural design has been outsourced to a US-based company, TRC Worldwide Engineering Brentwood. Structural design advisor’s are from Civil Engineering Department IIT and Sanrachna Consultants, New Delhi. The lead architects are Ingenious Studio Pvt Ltd. Quintessence Design Studio will carry out landscaping for the whole temple area. HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) will be installed by Gupta Consultants & Associates. All the electricals and wiring will be done with the help of WBG Consultants. The temple, with a traditional Nagra architecture at the entrance, will have elements of a glass façade that would stretch to the 70th floor.
--------------
Mathura, 2014.11.16 (ANI): President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, on Sunday attended a religious ceremony, the Ananta Shesha Sthapana Puja, at an under-construction temple dedicated to Lord Krishna in the holy town of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.
The ‘Chandrodaya’ temple, which will showcase early life of Lord Krishna, will be an architectural marvel. The foundation stone for the temple was laid on March 16 this year. President Mukherjee said India is one of the oldest and culturally rich civilizations in the world. Reportedly, the temple project is expected to get over in next five years and funds have been collected from various corporate houses and devotees of Lord Krishna. Meanwhile, Mukherjee also added that there could be no better way of doing this than spreading the Bhagvad Gita’s message of universal love and humanity. Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik, and BJP leader, Hema Malini, who represents Mathura constituency were also present during the religious ceremony.
I am delighted to be amongst you in Vrindavan today. I congratulate ISKCON for conceiving a unique project of this kind. I understand that the Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir, the foundation stone for which was laid on 16th of March this year, shall be an architectural marvel seeking to recreate the glory and the times of Lord Shri Krishna. It shall enable thousands of pilgrims who congregate at Vrindavan every year the opportunity of experiencing new levels of spiritual consciousness.
I also take this opportunity to convey my deep appreciation and respect for His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the founder Acharya of ISKCON, who spread the message of Krishna consciousness all over the world. A celebrated spiritualist and author, his influence continues to resonate in the hearts of Krishna devotees all over the world even today.
It was Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who, along with his disciples, first established temples in Vrindavan and led the cultural renaissance in the sixteenth century. He was instrumental in making Vrindavan the seat of bhakti and in disseminating its principles, as enunciated in our ancient texts, throughout India. I am happy that the proposed temple seeks to continue and build on this glorious tradition.
Shri Madhu Pandit Dasa, who has conceived this temple project, has aptly stated that this temple will not be just a mere edifice of concrete and steel, but a living and dynamic institution, and a center of learning and education. The Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir will strive to disseminate the philosophical message of the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam in an easy to understand and rational manner –that message is particularly relevant for us as a society today. While we as a nation move up the developmental ladder, it is essential that our spiritual core, which forms the bedrock of our civilization, remains undiluted and strong as ever.

H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja after graduating from the University of Delhi, studied Business Management in France and Canada.
Having received an intimation from His grace Mahapurusa das, the then President, ISKCON, Montreal that His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, Srila Prabhupada, Founder Acaraya, ISKCON shall be arriving in Montreal on June 1, 1968, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja arrived there on 30th May. After the kirtana, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja enquired if he could render some service, and he was immediately sent to clean Srila Prabhupada's apartment.
"I was fortunate to receive this as my first assignment in devotional service"
, Maharaja said. He cleaned the doors, shelves and windows of Srila Prabhupada's apartment. In this way, Gopal Krishna's service attitude for Srila Prabhupada was manifested even before he actually met him.
H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja first met Srila Prabhupada in the evening of June 1st, 1968. Within the first two weeks of meeting Srila Prabhupada, he decided that he would accept him as his spiritual master. In the words of H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja,
"When I first met Srila Prabhupada, the motivation to surrender to God was already there in me, and two weeks after meeting him, I knew that Lord Krishna wanted me to surrender to Srila Prabhupada".
In fact, around December 1967, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja had started visiting many Hindu temples, gurudwaras and churches, in his search for the Absolute Truth or God. Every Sunday, he would seek out a different church, temple or gurudwara, and would spend the whole day there.
In 1981, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja took the sannyasa order. A year later, in March 1982, on the auspicious day of Gaura-Purnima, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja became a 'diksha' guru, an initiating spiritual master.
H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja being an empowered representative of Lord Sri Caitanya, is engaged tirelessly in distributing Lord Gauranga's mercy, and is one of the important spiritual preceptor who is fully devoted to fulfilling Lord Gauranga's prophecy that
"My name will be chanted in every village and town of the world".
Distributing the holy name to conditioned souls, preaching in unfavorable environment and risky places, perfect management of the Society, and demonstrating exemplary behavior in practicing devotional service is unchecked! H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja is taking on a lot of responsibility personally, of delivering conditioned souls world-wide.
At present, H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja is the G.B.C. for Mumbai, Northern India that includes New Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Vrindavana, Chandigarh, Mayapur, Kenya, Canada, some states of America, and many parts of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Also, he is the Chairman and Trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, the world's largest publisher and distributor of Vedic literatures.
H. H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaja is engaged in inspiring and completing many of the largest ISKCON temples after the departure of Srila Prabhupada in 1977. Some of the important temple projects which have been completed under his untiring and dedicated efforts and directions include Sri Sri Radha Bankebihari temple in Nairobi in November 1994, Sri Sri Radha-Parthasarathi temple in New Delhi in April 1998 also known as "Glory of India" project, 'Heaven on Earth' project in Mumbai in December 2003, Sri Jagannatha temple in Ludhiana on Balaram Jayanti, 2004, Sri Sri Radha-Govinda temple in Faridabad in 2007, Sri Sri Krishna-Balarama temple in Punjabi Bagh the western part of New Delhi in September 2007 and Sri Jagannatha temple in Ghaziabad in February 2008.

ISKCON Delhi’s Vedic Museum To Add Two New Exhibits
The Vedic Museum – popularly known as the “Vedic Expo” – at ISKCON New Delhi’s massive Glory of India Vedic Cultural Center is in the process of adding two new exhibits. These will be incorporated into its section on the Chaitanya Charitamrita, the sixteenth century biography of Gaudiya Vaishnava Saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
The first will depict Namacharya Srila Haridas Thakur, known for his dedication to chanting God’s Holy Names, sitting and performing japa meditation in Puri, Orissa with the famous Jagannath Temple in the background.
The second will feature the five most recent in the Gaudiya Vaishnava line of gurus – Jagannath Das Babaji, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur, Gaura Kishora Das Babaji, Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, and ISKCON founder Srila Prabhupada. Each will be set in a different background – one sitting under a tree, another on some grass, and another on a raised asana.
“The idea is to let people know about these great acharayas and how ISKCON has come from a bona fide disciplic succession,” says technical director Niranjana Das.
The new additions will add to the appeal of the already extremely popular museum, which has drawn over three million people since it was inaugurated in April 1998 by then Indian Prime Minister Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The driving force behind this impressive project is Delhi GBC Gopal Krishna Goswami. Designed by an international bevy of talented artists including Italian musician Krishna Prema Das, photographer Nitya Tripta Dasi and American sculptor Bhaktisiddhanta Das, the museum combines Western technology and Vedic philosophy to utilize the best of both worlds. It includes several different sections, each with their own absorbing journeys into the stories and philosophy of the ancient Vedic literature.
The Vedic Safari takes visitors through the timeless epics the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Srimad Bhagavatam, and Chaitanya Charitamrita, bringing them to life with 3D displays, narrations, lighting effects, and art galleries. The Chaitanya Charitamrita section also features a replica of a fifteenth-century temple. And the Srimad-Bhagavatam section features India’s only quadroscope, a giant globe that uses a multi-video wall and a large mirror to create the effect of hundreds of screens.
The eight-room Bhagavad-gita Experience, for which Delhi 3D computer modeler Vivek Guha and UK crowd-flow consultant Brian Bath were brought in, is a half-hour dramatic tour depicting the concepts of reincarnation, divine nature, eternal time, physics, yoga and the universe through dioramas and sound and light shows.
Perhaps the piece de resistance is an animatronics stage show on the Bhagavad-gita in a 150-person-capacity hall, performed by nine robots created in Los Angeles by the same company that created the dinosaurs in the film Jurassic Park.
“There are three primary robots of Krishna, Arjuna and Srila Prabhupada in the center of the stage, which are life-sized and move even their lips, hands and eyes,” says Niranjana. “Then on each side there are partially moving robots of Srila Prabhupada – one standing on the Jaladuta steamship he took to the USA with the Boston skyline in the background, and the other sitting and writing at the Radha Damodar temple in Vrindavana. Digital surround sound, lighting effects, fog machines and a triple-screen video complete the experience.”

News - Grammy Nominee Krishna Das Visits ISKCON Delhi
Krishna Das or KD as his famously called in the Kirtan and Yoga circles and a Grammy-award nominated singer, visited ISKCON's Glory of India project in New Delhi last week while on a visit to the country's capital.
Krishna Das, who was accompanied by his tabla player Arjun Bruggeman, on entering the temple hall went to pay obeisances to Srila Prabhupada, founder-acharya of ISKCON. The singer later recalled his association with Srila Prabhupada when he would go to join the kirtans at Tompkins Square Park in New York in the late 60's.
Krishna Das performed an arati to the presiding deities of Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi and appreciated the beautiful paintings of Lord's pastimes which were displayed in various corners of the temple hall.
After the initial tour of the temple hall, Krishna Das and Arjun were met by ISKCON's Governing Body Commissioner, Jayapataka Swami, who thanked them for coming and invited them to visit Mayapur, a center of pilgrimage in India where the kirtan movement began 500 years ago.
The guests spent the later part of their visit honoring prasadam, sacred food, and recollecting their exchanges with other devotees of ISKCON.

21 Things To Do In Delhi, India (नई दिल्ली)
For many more things to do in Delhi, where to stay, and delicious food to eat, check out my Delhi Travel Guide: http://migrationology.com/delhi-travel-guide-ebook/ (click the link)!
Delhi, India, (नई दिल्ली) is the national capital of the country and has a metropolitan population of around 22 million residents. The city is ancient, it's been around since the 6th century BC so there are many historical and cultural places to visit. That's specifically why I created this list of 21 things to do in Delhi, to help you plan and get excited about visiting Delhi, India.
1. The Lotus Temple (Bahá'í House of Worship) - The temple is in the shape of a giant lotus and on the inside is a peaceful sanctuary where you can enter and sit in silence for as long as you like.
