The Jerusalem Post is an Israeli daily English-language broadsheet newspaper, founded on 1 December 1932 by Gershon Agron as The Palestine Post. The daily readership numbers (tens of thousands) do not approach those of the major Hebrew newspapers.
While it was once regarded as left-wing, the paper underwent a noticeable shift to the right in the late 1980s. After 2004, under the editorial leadership of David Horovitz, a non-partisan, more inclusive editorial line was fostered. Today the Post features columns and opinion articles spanning the political spectrum.
The Palestine Post was founded on 1 December 1932 by American journalist-turned-newspaper-editor, Gershon Agron in the British Mandate of Palestine. During its time as The Palestine Post, the publication supported the struggle for a Jewish homeland in Palestine and openly opposed British policy restricting Jewish immigration during the Mandate period.
According to the Historical Jewish Press, The Palestine Post was established "as part of a Zionist-Jewish initiative", and "Zionist institutions considered the newspaper one of the most effective means of exerting influence on the British authorities".

Jerusalem (
/dʒəˈruːsələm/; Hebrew: יְרוּשָׁלַיִם Yerushaláyim ; Arabic: القُدس al-Quds and/or أورشليم Ûrshalîm) is the capital of Israel, though not internationally recognized as such, and one of the oldest cities in the world. It is located in the Judean Mountains, between the Mediterranean Sea and the northern edge of the Dead Sea. If the area and population of East Jerusalem is included, it is Israel's largest city in both population and area, with a population of 801,000 residents over an area of 125.1 km2 (48.3 sq mi). Jerusalem is also a holy city to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. The oldest part of the city was settled in the 4th millennium BCE. In 1538, walls were built around Jerusalem under Suleiman the Magnificent. Today those walls define the Old City, which has been traditionally divided into four quarters—known since the early 19th century as the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters. The Old City became a World Heritage site in 1981, and is on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Modern Jerusalem has grown far beyond its boundaries.

John Forbes Kerry (born December 11, 1943) is the senior United States Senator from Massachusetts, the 10th most senior United States Senator and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He was the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party in the 2004 presidential election, but lost to then President George W. Bush.
The son of an Army Air Corps serviceman, Kerry was born in Aurora, Colorado. He attended boarding school in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and went on to graduate from Yale University class of 1966, where he majored in political science. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1966 and, during 1968-1969, served a four-month tour of duty in South Vietnam as officer-in-charge (OIC) of a Swift Boat. For that service he was awarded several combat medals that include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. After returning to the United States, Kerry joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War in which he served as a nationally recognized spokesperson and as an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam war. During that period, he appeared before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs where he deemed United States war policy in Vietnam to be the cause of "war crimes".

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew was booed loudly and consistently on Sunday by an irate audience at the annual Jerusalem Post Conference in New York that rejected his affirmation of U.S. President Barack Obama’s commitment to Israel’s security and his pledge to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Environmental groups riled by IDF plans to construct a branch of the military college in Jerusalem Forest have addressed a legal letter to the chief of staff demanding that the project be shut down.
Building in a nature reserve is unacceptable and must be reconsidered, said the letter to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot. It was authored by Joseph Havilio, an attorney speaking on behalf of activists opposing the construction.
“I represent tens of thousands of residents in Kiryat Yovel, Beit Hakerem and Ein Kerem and tens of thousands more people in other neighbourhoods of Jerusalem who oppose the plan to transfer the IDF colleges to the Jerusalem Forest,” the letter reads, as cited by The Jerusalem Post.
The municipality and IDF announced the decision to move the building site to the Jerusalem Forest in July. The initial plan to build the college on top of Mount Scopus, which is beyond the Green Line, between the Arab neighborhood of A-Tur and the Hebrew University, was dismissed, allegedly due to US pressure. Environmentalists and community leaders now argue that the new project, if implemented, is bound to bring harm to the city’s environment.
The proposed 42,000-square-meter college may not only take place of invaluable pine forest but also of a bird observatory housing a whole number of rare bird species, said the attorney.
The letter notes that activists do support the idea of stepping up the nation’s security by building a military college, but the forest reserve is definitely not a suitable place for it. The letter offers a wide range of sites for authorities to choose from, starting from an abandoned army base in the Beit Zayit area to the Givat Ram neighborhood, next to the Hebrew University, even though the locations had already been reviewed and rejected.

Police said that six people have been injured, adding that two of them were in serious condition.
"We were prepared for every scenario, but our perimeter was breached. This is a severe, hard incident, which required us to investigate to find out what fault cause this breach," Jerusalem District Police chief Moshe Edry, who told the Jerusalem Post he had no idea about the presence of the suspected stabber
The attacker is ultra-Orthodox Jew Yishai Schlisse – a follower of Haredi Judaism, which rejects modern secular culture.
He had been recently released from jail after serving a 10-year prison sentence. He was initially sentenced to 12 years in jail for attempted murder, but then the Supreme Court of Israel shortened his sentence.
Before committing the stabbing in 2005 he reportedly shouted, “I came to kill in God’s name.” Since his release he had campaigned in his hometown Modiin Ilit to cancel the parade, handing out hand-written leaflets.
Zoe Schochet, 18, who took part in the parade, was talking to one of the victims when the assailant stabbed him in the back.
“It was really scary,” she told The Times of Israel, adding that the man was bearded and was dressed in black.
"We heard people screaming, everyone ran for cover, and there were bloodied people on the ground,” Shai Aviyor, a witness, told Israel's Channel 2 TV.
In the meantime, Oded Fried, the head of a prominent gay rights society told Reuters that the parade will continue in future years despite the incident.
"Our struggle for equality only intensifies in the face of such events," he said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the attack on Gay Pride parade.

Israel''''s government on Tuesday granted the go-ahead for construction of 1,100 new housing units in occupied east Jerusalem, raising already heightened tensions fuelled by last week''''s Palestinian move to seek U.N. membership.
Israel''''s Interior Ministry said the homes would be built in Gilo, a sprawling Jewish enclave in southeast Jerusalem. It said construction could begin after a mandatory 60-day period for public comment, a process that is largely a formality.
The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem as their future capital. They have demanded that Israel halt all settlement construction in east Jerusalem and the adjacent West Bank - territories captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war - as a condition for resuming peace talks.
Israel says east Jerusalem, home to sensitive Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites, is an eternal part of its undivided capital.
Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, swiftly condemned the Israeli decision, saying it amounted to "1,100 ''''nos'''' to the resumption of peace talks."
He urged the United States, Israel''''s closest and most important ally, to change its position and support the Palestinians in their quest for U.N. membership.
With peace talks stalled for the past three years, the Palestinians last week asked the United Nations to recognise an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza Strip.
The U.S. opposes the measure and has vowed to veto the request in the Security Council. Like Israel, the U.S. says a Palestinian state can only be established through negotiations.
In an interview published on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not freeze settlement construction again.
Speaking to the Jerusalem Post, he said that a 10-month moratorium on new construction last year failed to yield results. He said he saw no need for another freeze.
Netanyahu says negotiations should begin without any preconditions.

Blasts apparently set off by suicide bombers ripped through a city bus in downtown Jerusalem and a soldier's hitchhiking post in the coastal city of Ashkelon on Sunday, killing at least 25 people and wounding more than 80 others.
Early morning commuters were greeted with scenes of carnage and twisted metal as emergency services and the military isolated the bomb site in central Jerusalem.
The back-to-back attacks, claimed by an anonymous caller in the name of the Muslim militant group Hamas, were the most devastating to hit Israel since the signing of the first peace agreement with the Palestine Liberation Organization in September 1993.
A bomb exploded on a bus in downtown Jerusalem on Sunday in the middle of morning rush hour.
The blast ripped off the top of the red city bus, and reduced the back to a twisted ball of charred metal. Splattered oil and bits of clothing littered the street.
Police kept onlookers away for fear of a second explosion.
Military sources said several soldiers had been aboard the bus.
The explosion came only two days after Israel lifted an 11-day closure of the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza Strip that had been imposed to prevent attacks by Muslim militants.
Israeli officials had received warnings that the militants were planning suicide attacks to avenge the death of their chief bomb-maker, Yehiye Ayyash, who was assassinated Jan. 5 in an operation widely attributed to Israel.
After the blasts a caller to Israel Radio's Arabic service claimed responsibility in the name of the militant Islamic group Hamas.
He said two Hamas followers, one with 22 pounds of TNT and another with 11 pounds of TNT, had carried out the attacks in Jerusalem and Ashkelon to avenge toe death of Ayyash and to mark the second anniversary of the Hebron mosque massacre.

As dawn broke over the Old City of Jerusalem tough-talking opposition leader Ariel Sharon was poised to clinch a stunning political comeback.
Voting in the election for a new Israeli Prime Minister begins Tuesday and the latest polls give Sharon a 20-point lead over moderate incumbent Ehud Barak.
Barak has warned that Sharon will plunge Israel into war with its neighbours.
But many voters, fatigued by the Palestinians' uprising against Israel, now in its fifth month, appeared either apathetic or swayed by Sharon's mantra of peace with security.
Sharon, 72, has been riding a wave of disappointment in Barak's leadership.
Sharon's appeal is to Israelis upset with Barak's insistence on making concessions for peace while Palestinian violence continues.

Israeli police and security forces were on alert Tuesday to try to stop bombing attacks by Palestinian extremists.

At checkpoints all cars trying to leave the West Bank were stopped and searched and identity papers scrutinised.
The election winner will have 45 days to set up a majority coalition in Israel's fractious parliament, dominated by single-issue sectorial factions and split almost evenly between moderates and hard-liners.

There were mixed reactions amongst Israelis in Jerusalem on Thursday to the news of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's ailing health.
One said he hoped that if Arafat died, his successor would "do good things for all of the Palestinians" and they accused Arafat of not having represented the Palestinian people's interests.
Some said that the chances for peace in the Middle East would be improved.
But some Israelis feared that if Arafat were to die, the militant group Hamas would take over the leadership of the Palestinians.
On the streets of Gaza, Palestinians, meanwhile, thought Arafat's passing would signify a loss for the Palestinian people.
Yasser Arafat was in a serious condition on Thursday after collapsing and briefly losing consciousness, as his persistent two-week illness took a sudden turn for the worse.
He was taken to the clinic inside his Ramallah compound, where he collapsed and fell unconscious for about 10 minutes, it was reported.
Fearing for his health, scores of top Palestinian officials descended on the sandbagged, partially demolished compound where the Palestinian leader has been confined for two and a half years.
Israel, which accuses Arafat of stoking violent attacks against it, had previously said Arafat was free to leave the compound and even to travel abroad, but it would not guarantee he would be allowed to return.

The Palestinian Authority will cancel parliamentary elections scheduled for 25 January 2006 if Israel goes ahead with its plan to bar Palestinians from voting in disputed Jerusalem, a senior Palestinian official said on Wednesday.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has been under pressure from his Fatah Party to postpone the vote, amid concerns about the growing political clout of the Islamic militant group Hamas.
But Palestinian officials denied Abbas was using Israel's threat as a pretext to call off the vote.
Abbas said he hasn't decided yet whether to delay the vote.
In the past, Abbas has insisted the vote will take place as scheduled, but on Wednesday hinted for the first time it might not.
"This is a big responsibility that must be studied carefully," Abbas said after a meeting with Egyptian Chief of Intelligence, Omar Suleiman.

Hamas, which is committed to Israel's destruction, is running for the first time in parliamentary elections, and poses a strong challenge to Abbas, a moderate.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's aide Raanan Gissin told The Associated Press that no final decision has been made.
He said allowing Palestinians to vote in Jerusalem post offices for parliamentary elections in 1996 and again this year, when Abbas was elected to succeed Yasser Arafat, were exceptions to the rule banning Palestinian political activity in Jerusalem.
While ostensibly a minor procedural matter, voting in Jerusalem is of great symbolic importance for Israel and the Palestinians, as a measure of
claims to the eastern sector.

STORYLINE:
The Palestinian Authority will cancel parliamentary elections scheduled for 25 January 2006 if Israel goes ahead with its plan to bar Palestinians from voting in disputed Jerusalem, a senior Palestinian official said on Wednesday.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has been under pressure from his Fatah Party to postpone the vote, amid concerns about the growing political clout of the Islamic militant group Hamas.
But Palestinian officials denied Abbas was using Israel's threat as a pretext to call off the vote.
Abbas said he hasn't decided yet whether to delay the vote.
In the past, Abbas has insisted the vote will take place as scheduled, but on Wednesday hinted for the first time it might not.
"This is a big responsibility that must be studied carefully," Abbas said after a meeting with Egyptian Chief of Intelligence, Omar Suleiman.

We have a secure building, a locked garage, elevator, four bedrooms, three baths, two terraces, all the windows in the apartment have views of different areas of Jerusalem. We have central air conditioning, a kosher kitchen with two separate areas for milk and meat. Both have their own sinks and dishwashers. We have a pantry off the kitchen with a full size freezer and a floor to ceiling cabinet for food.
Off the lobby of the building we have a storage room that could be an office. Right now it has built in closets and shelves in there for additional storage/

PALESTINE (Christian Examiner) -- A group identifying itself as "Islamic State in Palestine" has reportedly threatened the massacre of Christians in east Jerusalem.
According to Israel Today, unverified flyers bearing a symbol identified with ISIS began circulating the area Thursday, June 25. The leaflets reportedly threaten Christians who remain in the area after the Muslim observance of Ramadan.
A translation of the message reveals the group seeks "revenge" for "those who collaborate with the Zionists" and "Christian collaborators" because they "encourage Muslims to leave their religion and become more secular and open, and they spread evil," The Jerusalem Post reported.
“So we tell our Christians and the nonbelievers: Go away now or you will be killed.”

The note also states "ISIS soldiers will work to kill these people so this country is clean of them and... will clean this country and the Muslim Quarter from these Christians during this holy Ramadan."

Many locals questioned the authenticity of the materials. While some Christian Arabs expressed concern over the threat of their slaughter others said they did not fear for their lives.
One anonymous Arab called the statements an intimidation tactic. "It may simply be an attempt to intimidate local Christians," he said. "I do not fear. We are here in Israel, I do not think that Israel will allow that," he added.
Despite the mixed response from locals, a local Israeli news station reported that Israeli security forces were taking the threat against Palestinian Christians seriously.
Earlier this month, the Christian Today reported that anti-Christian hostility was on the rise in the area due to a growing number of radicalized Muslims there.
Rami Fellemon, director of Jerusalem Evangelistic Outreach based in East Jerusalem told CT that the developing tensions left Christians concerned and confused.
"They feel like even more of a minority now and feel hated by both sides [Jews and Muslims].

I have gotten several requests lately about what it's like to be black in Israel. People wonder if I face discrimination, racism, colorism. Do I stand out? Am I noticed? Am I mistreated. I decided to share some history regarding black people in the modern state of Israel as well as my (and a friend's) personal experience. In light of the recent events involving the Ethiopian community here in Israel and their definite experience of racism, I hope that this video helps to shed some light on the situation.
