Charles Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 -- March 12, 1955), also known as Yardbird and Bird, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer.
Parker acquired the nickname "Yardbird" early in his career and the shortened form, "Bird", which continued to be used for the rest of his life, inspiring the titles of a number of Parker compositions, such as "Yardbird Suite", "Ornithology", "Bird Gets the Worm", and "Bird of Paradise."
Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and improvisation. Parker introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas, including rapidly passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. His tone ranged from clean and penetrating to sweet and somber. Many Parker recordings demonstrate virtuosic technique and complex melodic lines, combining jazz with other musical genres, including blues, Latin, and classical.
Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual, rather than an entertainer.

Sabía usted que:
1. Su verdadero nombre es Francisco Raúl Gutiérrez Grillo y que nació en La Habana, (Cuba) el 16 de Febrero de 1912.
2. Entre 1928 y 1937, Machito actuó con grandes orquestas de baile más populares de Cuba, entre ellas están Sexteto Occidente de María Teresa Viera y el Sexteto Nacional de Ignacio Piñeiro.
3. Por esta época conoció al gran músico, arreglista, y compositor Mario Bauza con el cual trabajó durante décadas haciendo un gran aporte a la música latina.
4. En 1937 viajó a New York integrándose a un grupo llamado La Estrella Habanera, también grabó con el "Cuarteto Caney" y la Orquesta Hatuey.
5. En 1941, Machito junto con Mario bauza realizaron sus primeras grabaciones "Sopa de Pichón y Tingo Talango" con mucho éxito en el mercado latino ; cabe resaltar que también participo el joven timbalero Tito Puente.
6. En 1943 grabó el tema "Tanga" considerado como el primer disco de Jazz Afrocubano, termino inventado por Mario Bauza al fusionar la música cubana con el Jazz que se hacía en New York.
7. El 24 de Enero de 1947 el Jazz Afrocubano tendría su gran presentación en sociedad, cuando Fred Robbins, incluyó a los Afrocubans de 'Machito' en la presentación que haría esa noche Stan Kenton, en el Town Hall de la ciudad.
8. El 5 de enero de 1975, la banda de Machito, en compañía del gran trompetista de jazz Dizzy Gillespie, interpretó en vivo en la Catedral de San Patricio de Nueva York, la suite 'Oro, Incienso y Mirra' original de Chico O'Farril.
9. En 1975 fue nominado al grammy por tu trabajo Afro Cuban Jazz Moods que hiciera junto Dizzy Gillespie.
10. El padrino del Jazz Afrocubano, falleció en Londres Inglaterra el 15 de Abril de 1984 a causa de una hemorragia cerebral.

Entre 1928 y 1937, Machito actuó con grandes orquestas de baile más populares de Cuba, entre ellas están Sexteto Occidente de María Teresa Viera y el Sexteto Nacional de Ignacio Piñeiro. 3. Parker acquired the nickname "Yardbird" early in his career and the shortened form, "Bird", which continued to be used for the rest of his life, inspiring the titles of a number of Parker compositions, such as "Yardbird Suite", "Ornithology", "Bird Gets the Worm", and "Bird of Paradise."
Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and improvisation. Parker introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas, including rapidly passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. His tone ranged from clean and penetrating to sweet and somber. Many Parker recordings demonstrate virtuosic technique and complex melodic lines, combining jazz with other musical genres, including blues, Latin, and classical.
Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual, rather than an entertainer.

3. Por esta época conoció al gran músico, arreglista, y compositor Mario Bauza con el cual trabajó durante décadas haciendo un gran aporte a la música latina.
4. En 1937 viajó a New York integrándose a un grupo llamado La Estrella Habanera, también grabó con el "Cuarteto Caney" y la Orquesta Hatuey.
5. En 1941, Machito junto con Mario bauza realizaron sus primeras grabaciones "Sopa de Pichón y Tingo Talango" con mucho éxito en el mercado latino ; cabe resaltar que también participo el joven timbalero Tito Puente.
6. En 1943 grabó el tema "Tanga" considerado como el primer disco de Jazz Afrocubano, termino inventado por Mario Bauza al fusionar la música cubana con el Jazz que se hacía en New York.
7. El 24 de Enero de 1947 el Jazz Afrocubano tendría su gran presentación en sociedad, cuando Fred Robbins, incluyó a los Afrocubans de 'Machito' en la presentación que haría esa noche Stan Kenton, en el Town Hall de la ciudad.
8. El 5 de enero de 1975, la banda de Machito, en compañía del gran trompetista de jazz Dizzy Gillespie, interpretó en vivo en la Catedral de San Patricio de Nueva York, la suite 'Oro, Incienso y Mirra' original de Chico O'Farril.
9. En 1975 fue nominado al grammy por tu trabajo Afro Cuban Jazz Moods que hiciera junto Dizzy Gillespie.
