St. Louis (/seɪnt ˈluːɪs/ or /sənt ˈluːɪs/) is a city and port in the U.S. state of Missouri. The city developed along the western bank of the Mississippi River, which forms Missouri's border with Illinois. In 2010, St. Louis had a population of 319,294; a 2014 estimate put the population at 317,419, making it the 60th-most populous U.S. city and the second-largest city in the state in terms of city proper population. The St. Louis metropolitan area includes the city as well as nearby areas in Missouri and Illinois; with an estimated population of 2,905,893, it is the largest in Missouri and one of the largest in the United States. St. Louis was founded in 1764 by Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau and named after Louis IX of France. Claimed first by the French, who settled mostly east of the Mississippi River, the region in which the city stands was ceded to Spain following France's defeat in the Seven Years' War. Its territory east of the Mississippi was ceded to the Kingdom of Great Britain, the victor. The area of present-day Missouri was part of Spanish Louisiana from 1762 until 1803.
KMOV, virtual channel 4 (UHF digital channel 24), is a CBS-affiliated television station located in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. The station is owned by the Meredith Corporation. KMOV maintains studio and office facilities located at the Gateway Tower at 1 Memorial Drive in Downtown St. Louis, near the Gateway Arch, and its transmitter is located in Lemay.
The station first signed on the air on July 8, 1954 as KWK-TV. At its launch, channel 4 was owned by a consortium that included jointly owned by Robert T. Convey (28%) and the Newhouse Newspapers-published St. Louis Globe-Democrat (23%), who jointly operated KWK radio (1380 AM, now KXFN); Elzey M. Roberts Sr., former owner of KXOK radio (630 AM, frequency now occupied by KYFI), which had to be sold as a condition of the license grant, which was sold in accordance with merger agreement (23%); and Missouri Valley Television Inc., made up of Saint Paul, Minnesota-based Hubbard Broadcasting (23%) and several St. Louis residents (combined 3%).
Channel 4 is a British public-service television broadcaster that began transmission on 2 November 1982. Although largely commercially self-funded, it is ultimately publicly owned; originally a subsidiary of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), the station is now owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation, a public body established in 1990, coming into operation in 1993. With the conversion of the Wenvoe transmitter group in Wales to digital on 31 March 2010, Channel 4 became a UK-wide TV channel for the first time.
The channel was established to provide a fourth television service to the United Kingdom in addition to the television licence-funded BBC's two services and the single commercial broadcasting network, ITV.
Before Channel 4 and S4C, Britain had three terrestrial television services: BBC1, BBC2, and ITV. The Broadcasting Act 1980 began the process of adding a fourth, and Channel 4, along with its Welsh counterpart, was formally created by an Act of Parliament in 1982. After some months of test broadcasts, it began scheduled transmissions on 2 November 1982.

A typical summer night 10 PM news broadcast in St. Louis in that era. Lead story for the night was The Who playing a concert at Busch Stadium. I intentionally leave the commercials in as some people like those more than the program itself.
War Zone: The destruction of an All-American city. This hour-long documentary examines the impact of public corruption on the city of East St. Louis and the poverty stricken villages surrounding it. We investigate the debilitating effects of corruption by showing how it tears down law enforcement, public education and other government services. We interview crooked politicians who explain why they ripped off taxpayers and victims of corruption who reveal how corrupt leaders and systems harmed their lives.

Here is a brief collection of commercials and news updates I pulled from a tape from April of 1989, with the one and only Jim Bolen on the news update desk.

This video is from a series of 1DC camera tests I conducted. You can read my full write up of the 1DC on the WonderBlog here: http://andrewwonder.com/1dctests HIGH ISO NIGHT INTERIOR TEST For our final setup, it was time to see how the camera did shooting 10,000 ISO. Low light is what has kept me using canon cameras. When I was first using the 1DX I was blown away by the way it handled 12,800 ISO and was exciting to see how it did in 4K. Nora De is placed next to a fire to provide background high lights. She is keys by a distant desk lamp that I dimmed to provide just enough fill to bring her face up closer to the level of the backlight provided by the fire. Of all the tests this truly brings the 4K vs Full Frame battle to life. As a consequence of the 4K’s sharpness we see colored noi...

In this week's video we are visiting St. Louis, Missouri: The Gateway to the West. As it is our tradition lately we are going to do the most important or touristy thing first, and then work our way down in order of priority. The undisputed winner in this city is the Gateway Arch, an engineering and architectural marvel. It is the tallest arch in the world and the tallest monument in the western hemisphere. Its catenary shape makes it perfectly balanced on the ground. It has a unique elevator system that is actually a closer cousin to a Ferris wheel. Due to the nature of the arch a traditional vertical elevator was impractical so they designed this unique contraption for such purpose. After aimlessly wandering a nearly deserted downtown we decided to visit what is arguably the next best ...
