SVO Reboot
Hey Guys,
As everyone has probably noticed the current status of SVO is at least "dormant". I'm focusing more on webdevelopment and electronics for university classes at the moment, so C# programming has to make room for that for now. I'm planning on turning the server back on starting with the xmas holidays.
As a goal for myself I still would like to have at least a working battle system so eventually I hope to add it at some point in time. Darkfrost is attending Game Development courses at his university so he's also gaining more insight into creating an actual video game.
The source code has been released a while back, feel free to mess around with it and post your results on the forum.
SVO going opensource
As many of you have noticed, the last couple of months have been very quiet around here. Many of us have become occupied with other stuff and SVO has become more of a side-project. Because of this I think it's best to make the entire SVO code, graphics, ... opensource and available to everyone. This way anyone with a bit of programming skills can check it out and even run their own SVO server!
This also means for the time being there won't be many updates from our side unless for some reason interest is sparked again. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to prepare a package that anyone who is interested in SVO can download.
I've spent way too many hours on SVO to let it go to waste so I hope someone will continue what we've started.
SVO on Reddit
For all you redditors out there, I made an SVO reddit, go check it out and post some SVO related things :)
In other news, I've spent some time working on the enemy AI and it's almost doing the same as in Earthbound (moving towards/away from players). With a little tweaking I think I can get some enemies in SVO in the next update. I'm also waiting for Darkfrost to update some bits of the server so it works without crashing every 5 minutes.

And when you're dead SVO will be still alive
Good news for all you Radeon and Intel Integrated Graphics card owning folks! The graphics library we're using received an update that resolves the graphic issues with most of the cards. We will (try to) add this fix into the next revision which is scheduled to release somewhere shortly after the easter holidays.
Been working quite hard for uni stuff the last few weeks so I shouldn't have too much on my hands during the holidays which means I can spend more time on SVO. It's been so long that I'm actually really looking forward to spend more time developing and adding new stuff.

Development progress
The updates have been so slow lately, we kind of lost track of time with all university things but this weekend we're going to work on SVO, 100%! I'll be fixing a bunch of things that have been on my todo list for a while now. I'll also look into making the NPC chat system somewhat more attractive. The problem we've got at the moment is that we do not have a decent AI for the NPCs or enemies (which means if we put them in-game now, they'll just be really, REALLY stupid).
I know the EB fans are loyal and patient (Mother 1/3 translation, ...) so I'm sure you guys know we're not giving up or are dead in any way, it's just one of those periods other stuff has a higher priority but as you've seen, I'm trying to keep the server up for as much time as I can.
