Brill's name is a combination of Brythonic and Anglo Saxon words for 'hill' (Brythonic breg and Anglo Saxon hyll). In the reign of Edward the Confessor it was a town called Bruhella.

The Basics & Intricacies of Arabic Morphology by Joyce Åkesson
The Basics & Intricacies of Arabic Morphology by Joyce Åkesson
Despite the amount of material about Arabic grammar, phonology, and morphology, the need for a book combining an independent study in morphology with theoretical discussions is more than evident. This book fills that void by proposing an in-depth analysis of various morphological issues based on the seven classes of verbs and their nine derivatives. These classical classes are the strong verb, the doubled, the hamzated, the verb with 1st radical w or y, the verb with 2nd radical w or y, the verb with 3rd radical w or y, and the verb that is doubly weak. The nine derivatives are the perfect, imperfect, imperative, infinitive noun, active parti

Causes and Principles in Arabic
One of the interesting features in Arabic linguistics is the reference to causes and principles in the explanation of many linguistic phenomena. This scientific approach seems to have developed from the middle of the 8th century and onwards with the influence of Greek philosophy on Arabic linguistics and on other disciplines. The present book provides information on several causes and principles in Arabic morphology and phonology, with a strong focus on the words, letters and vowels. Examples, qur’anic quotations and verses are presented in both Arabic script and Roman transcription and different theories are explored. Some of the causes that

Last week in New York City, on the fringe of Times Square, a band of busy artists gathered in a building brimming with songwriting history. The Brill Building's golden age, when songs like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and "Be My Baby" were written in its offices, are in the past, but The New Pornographers' pop music would fit into the mold of that era. You can easily imagine the group's members writing songs in small, secluded rooms to be played on tiny transistors and monophonic record players.
Brill Bruisers is the name of the sixth album by The New Pornographers, shortened by singer/bandleader Carl Newman from the original title "Brilliant Bruisers." By trimming the album's title, Newman made the connection to the famous New York building filled with hit makers and music publishers from the 1940s to the '60s. So it felt undeniable to bring the band into the space that inspired the new album's name. For this one night, we transformed the abandoned retail space on the ground floor of the Brill Building into a music venue, and for a few hours, there was magic in the air.
Carl Newman knows the long history of the space well. He has read the book Always Magic in the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era, and his own band's songs have a sense of energy that's vibrant and vital and meant for repeat listens, as the girl group era's great singles were. The talent in this band is abundant; each member has his or her own musical project on the side (or in the case of synth player Blaine Thurier, a filmmaking project). Singer Neko Case has a very creative and popular canon of solo works and has played with many other musicians, including Jakob Dylan, Nick Cave and Andrew Bird. Songwriter Dan Bejar has put out many albums as Destroyer, including 2011's Kaputt, maybe his most loved. The list goes happily on.
Seeing this group of musicians on one stage is always a joy, and seeing them on this makeshift stage in a venue as special as the Brill Building was unforgettable. They played songs from each of their six albums together, performing many of the songs from Brill Bruisers for the first time. To paraphrase the most famous of the Brill Building songwriters, the husband and wife team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King, we thank The New Pornographers for making this "a lasting treasure, not simply a moment's pleasure." --Bob Boilen

The nine derivatives are the perfect, imperfect, imperative, infinitive noun, active participle, passive participle, noun of time, noun of place and noun of instrument. The different sections introduce several paradigms of verbs, a carefully explored data and explicit information about the morphological structures and the various phonological changes that can affect them, such as the addition, transfer or elision of a vowel or letter, the assimilation of two letters and the substitution of one letter for another. The study pays also particular attention to the most representative works from the 8th century until our days.
You can buy the book at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, etc.
Joyce Akesson has studied the Semitic languages at Lund's University, Sweden, and has previously been a lecturer there during many years. Beside the present book, she is the author of "The Phonological Changes due to the Hamza and Weak Consonant in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "A Study of the Assimilation and Substitution in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Essentials of the Class of the Strong Verb in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Complexity of the Irregular Verbal Nominal Forms & the Phonological Changes in Arabic" (Pallas Athena Distribution 2009), "Arabic Morphology and Phonology: Based on the Marah Al-Arwah by Ahmad B. Ali B. Masud" (Studies in Semitic Languages and Linguistics), Brill Academic Publishers (July 2001) and "Ahmad B. 'Ali B. Mas'Ud on Arabic Morphology Marah Al-Arwah: Part 1:The Strong Verb" (Studia Orientalia Ludensia, Vol 4), Brill Academic Pub (October 1990). She has also published several articles about Arabic linguistics in two Journals, the Journal of Arabic Linguistics (the ZAL or Zeitschrift für Arabische Linguistik) Wiesbaden, and the previous Acta Orientalia, Denmark. She has also written a lemma about sarf "morphology/phonology in the Encyclopaedia of Arabic Language and Linguistics, vol. 4. Leiden: Brill, 20.

Leo Lucassen presents his paper ‘Beyond the state: cross-cultural migrations in Europe and Asia since 1500' as the Day 2 Keynote for the Determinants of International Migration – DEMIG Conference, held at the University of Oxford from 23–25 September 2014.

This paper, which builds on our ongoing research project on global migration history (http://socialhistory.org/nl/projects/global-migration-history-programme), deals with the problem that there is no agreed upon definition of what migration precisely is, which makes it very difficult to make comparisons through time and space. But also to use it as a structural variable in wider debates on cultural and economic change. To solve this problem the paper will propose a new method to define, measure and quantify cross-cultural migrations (inspired by Patrick Manning’s definition of this concept). This method and typology has been tested so far for Europe in the period 1500-1900 (socialhistory.org/sites/default/files/docs/publications/respap46.pdf) and recently (in a forthcoming edited volume on Eurasia, Brill Publishers April 2014) for Asia and Europe (at the level of Europe, Russia, China, Japan and India in the period 1600-2000). Apart from introducing a new definition and typology (which also includes, internal, high skilled an temporary movers), the paper will also discuss the differential impact of various types of cross-cultural on the migrants, the area of destination and the region of origin.

Some of the causes that are discussed are the choice of a certain letter or vowel to a form, different phonological changes such as the elision or the addition of a vowel or a letter and the likes or dislikes of certain combinations. The references to several works of linguistics from the classical period until our days elucidate many intricacies and reflect the interests of several linguists in these topics.

WHY I LOVE... SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA
What to do, where to stay and how to play in the USA's best kept secret!
This is my first ever travel video / vlog / video blog... you get the idea. My brand new travel website passportstamps.uk has just launched so I thought I would give this youtube thing a go (I know I am late to the party.) I've been a journalist for 11 years so being in front of the camera instead of behind a keyboard is very new!
I caught the travel bug when I was just 16 and I begged my dad to let me go to NYC with my friend Kirsty - just us, no parents! It was amazing! Since then I just can't seem to sit still - I've bored everyone
This is Petr Furch demonstrating how to minimize the new Furch Travel Acoustic in almost no time. The guitar was almost in tune when put back together! http:...

Tom Thum: Armed with just a microphone, Thum pushes the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds, with scratched vinyl, the Michael Jackson back-catalogue, the didgeridoo and an entire fifties jazz band amongst his vocal repertoire.
You can follow Tom on FaceBook (TomThummer) and Twitter (@tomthummer)
Quoting from ABC's Triple J Unearthed website:
"TOM THUM, THE VERSATILE VOICEBOX 'Tom Thum appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers' The Guardian (UK)
'There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder of this beatboxing virtuoso - I am still trying to figure out how he got those sounds out of his mouth' The Daily Telegraph (UK)
'The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" effortlessly spout from his mouth' Time Out, NY
These are apt quotes to describe the performance of one of Australia's most prominent and respected beatboxers and serial pests. Only in his mid-twenties Tom Thum has achieved and experienced more than most artists could hope to achieve in a lifetime. From winning the team battles (alongside Joel Turner) in the World Beatbox Championships in 2005, to fulfilling every artists dream and performing on Broadway in New York with the Tom Tom Crew, Tom has seen his fair share of accolades and well and truly paid his dues. Raised by the small but accommodating Brisbane hip hop scene, Tom started out as a graffiti writer and a Bboy but slowly rose to recognition through his ability to produce unhuman sounds and his natural knack for performing and weaselling his way on stage...
Although the stage seems the ideal habitat for Tom he is also no stranger to community and has been helping the scene improve through conducting a plethora of workshops in many places that usually wouldn't have access to such knowledge and skill. Tom has travelled from the very top of Australia teaching in the Indigenous communities of Mornington and Thursday Islands all the way to the very bottom with a series of workshops in Tasmania and Adelaide.
He has also spent considerable time teaching on Palm Island and in Charleville and many other places that would otherwise be Starved for education about proper hip hop and the positive message that music preaches.
As Tom's experience within the music industry expands, he plans to push the limits of the human voice as far as inhumanly possible. Enrolling the help of numerous loop stations, Tom has been conducting DJ sets using only his voice and nothing else, propelling crowds across the country into a frenzy of jaw-dropping disbelief, as he re-creates and remixes classic joints and jams from all eras and genres. At present Tom is working on an album ranging across many different generes and features and hopes to have it finished by early 2012. You might see him on a stage at a festival looping up a storm or supporting anyone from the Hilltop Hoods to Blue King Brown, or you might catch him annoying the hell out of commuters on public transport. Either way, you will notice him soon enough. Keep an ear out for Tom Thum."

What to do, where to stay and how to play in the USA's best kept secret!
This is my first ever travel video / vlog / video blog... you get the idea. My brand new travel website passportstamps.uk has just launched so I thought I would give this youtube thing a go (I know I am late to the party.) I caught the travel bug when I was just 16 and I begged my dad to let me go to NYC with my friend Kirsty - just us, no parents! It was amazing!

This video is about the book Arabic Proverbs and Wise Sayings. Proverbs bring color to our speech. A way to understand a foreign culture is to learn some of its proverbs. This book presents a selection of more than 700 proverbs and wise sayings from the Arabic world. The dialectal forms are changed and presented in Modern Standard Arabic. The Arabic expressions are paralleled with transliterations, translations into English, and often explanations and English equivalents. The aim of the study is to enlarge the reader’s vocabulary in Arabic and to stimulate cross cultural discussions. You can buy the book at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, etc.
Joyce Akesson has studied the Semitic languages at Lund's University, Sweden, and has previously been a lecturer there during many years. Beside the present book, she is the author of "Causes and Principles in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2011), "A Study of Arabic Phonology" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Basics & Intricacies of Arabic Morphology" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Phonological Changes due to the Hamza and Weak Consonant in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "A Study of the Assimilation and Substitution in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Essentials of the Class of the Strong Verb in Arabic" (Pallas Athena 2010), "The Complexity of the Irregular Verbal Nominal Forms & the Phonological Changes in Arabic" (Pallas Athena Distribution 2009), "Arabic Morphology and Phonology: Based on the Marah Al-Arwah by Ahmad B. Ali B. Masud" (Studies in Semitic Languages and Linguistics, Brill Academic Publishers 2001) and "Ahmad B. 'Ali B. Mas'Ud on Arabic Morphology Marah Al-Arwah: Part 1:The Strong Verb" (Studia Orientalia Ludensia, Vol 4, Brill Academic Pub 1990).

'The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" effortlessly spout from his mouth' Time Out, NY
