Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba. Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars. But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you a sense of stepping back in time. Here in Havana you should enjoy a tour of the cities main sites, an evening at the Bueno Vista Social Club, and trip to one of her many museums. You'll need at least a couple of days, its a very fun place. In two weeks time Trinidad will celebrate its 500 anniversary. Founded only a few years after Christopher Columbus discovered the America's, the town shot to prominence in the 19th century as one of the world's largest exporters of sugar. With its fine plazas, palaces and churches, and its famous cobbled streets lined by colourful houses, it developed into masterpiece of colonial Caribbean architecture. So well preserved is the town that in 1988 it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status and today forms an important part of most cultural trips to the country. From Trinidad you might continue east to visit the revolutionary centre of Santiago de Cuba, or head west to enjoy the amazing landscapes around Vinales. Or you might like to do something completely different. Of course there are plenty of other things to enjoy in Cuba besides the cultural highlights Trinidad and Havana offer. Cuba is blessed with beautiful countryside through which to can go hiking, cycling and horse back riding. Right now I am at a government ranch called La Guabina, in Pinar del Rio province. Each year Wild Frontiers takes the place over to run a horse riding tour of the area and horse riding is primarily what I have come here to do. But if riding is not your thing, from here you can also go on wonderful walks, go fishing or boating on one of the regions many lakes, indulge in some bird watching, or just relax away from the more chaotic life urban Cuba has to offer. And finally of course there are beaches. As an island over a 1000 kilometres in length, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other, there are hundreds of wonderful beaches just waiting to be enjoyed. And in our experience, Cayo Levisa, where I am now, is one of the best. Relatively close to Havana, and relatively small in size, Cayo Levisa offers all the usual activities you'd associate with a modern beach resort, like sailing, fishing snorkeling and diving, but is small enough to not have you feeling drowned by mass tourism. As with a number of other similar locations, Cayo Levisa offers a great way to round off your trip to Cuba. Of course a cultural adventure to Cuba will not be for everyone. With luxury accommodation pretty much non-existent, transport pretty basic, the cuisine though in places surprisingly good, in others rather plain, and a service level that is at best eclectic, those looking for a high end experience will almost certainly be disappointed here. But if you're the kind of traveller that is interested in seeing a country that hasn't really changed in the last 50 years, a place that has not been overwhelmed by all the trappings of modern consumerism, and are happy to go with the flow in one of the world's last remaining communist countries, then here in Cuba you will find one of the most friendly, authentic, historically interesting and culturally rich places in the whole of Latin America. My advice is to come soon before it all changes.

Being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba has warm water year round, with winter water temperatures at 75F, spring and fall temperatures at 78F and summer temperatures at 82F. See in Havana, Cuba ================= Museum of the Revolution and the Capitol Building. Visit a live cigar factory. One offering tours is at the intersection of Peñalver and San Carlos (just 1 mile southwest of Old Havana La Habana Vieja), tickets can/should be bought in advance (10 CUC per person as of July 2014). English tours are available. Please note that there is no photography allowed. It is the place where you can also be sure to get the correct cigars in the shop - more expensive than 'street offers' - but the quality of these "street offers" is definitely questionable, . Note that the Partagas cigar factory just behind the Capitol Building has closed permanently since late 2011. Havana Club Rum Factory. Go on a guided tour of Havana Club, one of Cuba's most famous rums. Most of the exhibits are subtitled in English and are fairly self-explanatory. Walk along the Prado street in the evening. Great public space - unfortunately not illuminated at night. The Prado hums with street life, cafes and charm. Walk along El Malecón. A favorite stroll for tourists and locals, a walk along the Malecon runs along the main streets of Havana and provides stunning views of the Bay. Enjoy the glory of La Habana Vieja (The Old Town), some of it faded and crumbling - but there are many beautifully restored buildings as a result of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. Plaza de la Revolución. Huge square dominated by a statue and monument of Jose Marti and the iconic image of Che Guevara adorning the Ministry of the Interior. Arrive either early or late, as it is often swamped by tourists and gets very hot during the day. John Lennon Park in Vedado. Features the only statue of a western musician in Havana. Notable for the regularly stolen (and replaced) eyeglasses. The US Special Interests building in Vedado, just off the Malecon. In the absence of a United States embassy in Cuba, this heavily fortified and guarded building is where Cuban citizens go to apply for US Visas. It was notable for displaying news which is unfiltered and not censored by the Cuban government on electronic billboards situated behind the windows of one of the floors, but these were switched off in 2009. It is also the focus for regularly staged protests. Hotel Habana Libre in Vedado. The hotel housed Castro's soldiers for several days after they took Havana. It has an excellent selection of photos in the lobby along with one of the only 24 hour fast food restaurants in the city. Enjoy extraordinary 360-degree views of the city using the large Camara Oscura in the old town. The Catedral de San Cristobal in old Havana. Said to be the only example of a baroque construction that possesses asymmetrical features, one of the towers is wider than the other. Plaza de Armas. Spacious and elegant, the square is surrounded by baroque constructions that give it a authentic colonial milieu. Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Plaza des Armas. Castillo de La Real Fuerza is the oldest bastioned fortress in the New World and has now reopened as a Cuba’s premier maritime museum. Do in Havana, Cuba =============== Walk along the Malecón, the sea wall that runs along the Havana coastline. On weekends this is where the locals come to party, so bring a bottle and join in. Latin American New Cinema Festival, [6] is a popular event held every December, screening international films and drawing around 500,000 people. Tropicana Show — A cabaret show that costs 90CUC. Take a tour in an old car — For around 20-30CUC an hour for up to four people, be driven around Havana in style. Choose a car you like near the Hotel Inglaterra or outside the Museum of the Revolution. Go to the eastern beaches (Playas del Este) — There's a bus leaving from Hotel Inglaterra every 30 minutes. Price is 5 CUC for a roundtrip. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Walk around Havana Vieja in the early mornings, or take a very long walking tour with "Havana Frans", a Dutch jazz photographer who lives in Havana.

Havana (/həˈvænə/; Spanish: La Habana, [la aˈβana] ( listen)) is the capital city, province, major port, and leading commercial centre of Cuba.The city proper has a population of 2.1 million inhabitants, and it spans a total of 728.26 km2 (281.18 sq mi) – making it the largest city by area, the most populous city, and the third largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean region.The city extends mostly westward and southward from the bay, which is entered through a narrow inlet and which divides into three main harbours: Marimelena, Guanabacoa and Atarés. The sluggish Almendares River traverses the city from south to north, entering the Straits of Florida a few miles west of the bay. The city of Havana was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and due to its strategic location it served as a springboard for the Spanish conquest of the continent becoming a stopping point for the treasure-laden Spanish galleons on the crossing between the New World and the Old World. King Philip II of Spain granted Havana the title of City in 1592.Walls as well as forts were built to protect the old city.The sinking of the U.S. battleship Maine in Havana's harbor in 1898 was the immediate cause of the Spanish–American War. Contemporary Havana can essentially be described as three cities in one: Old Havana, Vedado and the newer suburban districts. The city is the center of the Cuban government, and home to various ministries, headquarters of businesses and over 90 diplomatic offices. The current mayor is Marta Hernández from the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC). In 2009, the city/province had the 3rd highest income in the country. The city attracts over a million tourists annually, the Official Census for Havana reports that in 2010 the city was visited by 1,176,627 international tourists, a 20.0% increase from 2005. The historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. The city is also noted for its history, culture, architecture and monuments. Conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar founded Havana on August 25, 1515 or 1514, on the southern coast of the island, near the present town of Surgidero de Batabanó, or more likely on the banks of the Mayabeque River close to Playa Mayabeque. All attempts to found a city on Cuba's south coast failed, however an early map of Cuba drawn in 1514 places the town at the mouth of this river. Between 1514 and 1519 the Spanish established at least two different settlements on the north coast, one of them in La Chorrera, today in the neighborhood of Puentes Grandes, next to the Almendares River. The town that became Havana finally originated adjacent to what was then called Puerto de Carenas (literally, "Careening Bay"), in 1519. The quality of this natural bay, which now hosts Havana's harbor, warranted this change of location. Pánfilo de Narváez gave Havana — the sixth town founded by the Spanish on Cuba — its name: San Cristóbal de la Habana. The name combines San Cristóbal, patron saint of Havana, and Habana, of obscure origin, possibly derived from Habaguanex, a native American chief who controlled that area, as mentioned by Diego Velásquez in his report to the king of Spain. Shortly after the founding of Cuba's first cities, the island served as little more than a base for the Conquista of other lands. Havana began as a trading port, and suffered regular attacks by buccaneers, pirates, and French corsairs. The first attack and resultant burning of the city was by the French corsair Jacques de Sores in 1555. Such attacks convinced the Spanish Crown to fund the construction of the first fortresses in the main cities — not only to counteract the pirates and corsairs, but also to exert more control over commerce with the West Indies, and to limit the extensive contrabando (black market) that had arisen due to the trade restrictions imposed by the Casa de Contratación of Seville (the crown-controlled trading house that held a monopoly on New World trade). Ships from all over the New World carried products first to Havana, in order to be taken by the fleet to Spain. The thousands of ships gathered in the city's bay also fueled Havana's agriculture and manufacture, since they had to be supplied with food, water, and other products needed to traverse the ocean. On December 20, 1592, King Philip II of Spain granted Havana the title of City. Later on, the city would be officially designated as "Key to the New World and Rampart of the West Indies" by the Spanish Crown. In the meantime, efforts to build or improve the defensive infrastructures of the city continued. Havana expanded greatly in the 17th century. New buildings were constructed from the most abundant materials of the island, mainly wood, combining various Iberian architectural styles, as well as borrowing profusely from Canarian characteristics.

The Metrobus, a long bus pulled by a semitrailer holds 200 people at a time transporting them throughout the city which spans 45km. It's the biggest settlement in Central America. Fortunately, the tourist sites are limited to a smaller territory than this in the Vieja Habana, Centro Habana and Vedado City regions. Sought by everyone, relics of the colonial past can be found in the old town Vieja. Outside the former city wall, in the middle of a monumental park, the building of the Capitollo can be found. This huge palace with a white dome is the symbol of the American influence. It was built in 1929, taking the capital in Washington as a model. Due to its designer's healthy Cuban self confidence, it was built to be one meter higher than the original. It served as the parliament of the Cuban republic for three decades. In one of its wings, the House of Representatives and the other wing, the senate was in session. After the victory of the revolution, a new function was given it and today, it is the seat of the Cuban Scientific Academy. Because there's a lot of room left in it, the Museum of Natural Science and the Planetarium were also set up here. The 208 meter wide façade looks under Martilla Esplanade which is always busy and broadens to become a square. Next to the capital, an impressively beautiful building can be seen. This neoclassical palace ornamented with statues columns and small towers is the national theater which was named after the antifascist poet Federico Garcia Lorca. As a result of his beliefs, General Franco had him executed. Exploring the real beauties of the city can be done best on foot but sightseeing can also be continued by hailing a cab. In the street opening opposite, we can find El Floradita which is a bar and a restaurant in one and is one of the most popular in Havana. In the corner of the bar, Hemingway leans against the counter as he used to do when yearning for a swig of daiquiri. This cocktail was first given to workers as a refreshment in the mine the bar was named after. It is made in many ways but its base is Cuban white rum, lemon juice and lots of ice. Sugar syrup, triple sec or maraschino can also be added but it can be made with banana or orange as well and it's best to drink it right here on the spot. The determining elements of the panorama of Havana are the American old timers. In the 1950s, Americans not only bough real estate here, but they also brought their cars which were the most modern at that time. After the revolution, Fidel nationalized the cars too. They belong to the national heritage. They're not for sale even if the collector had paid huge amounts for a chrome osmobile or a pink Cadillac, a wing Chevrolet or a Studebaker. In Cuba, there are no places where they dissemble old cars. The wrecks can still be driven. As spare parts are not available for these models at all, it's a challenge to maintain them. Perhaps there's little money but there's always an idea. In American politics, the Southern strategy refers to a Republican Party strategy of gaining political support for certain candidates in the Southern United States by appealing to racism against African Americans. Though the "Solid South" had been a longtime Democratic Party stronghold due to the Democratic Party's defense of slavery before the American Civil War and segregation for a century thereafter, many white Southern Democrats stopped supporting the party following the civil rights plank of the Democratic campaign in 1948 (triggering the Dixiecrats), the African-American Civil Rights Movement, the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965, and desegregation. The strategy was first adopted under future Republican President Richard Nixon and Republican Senator Barry Goldwater in the late 1960s. The strategy was successful in winning 5 formerly Confederate states in both the 1964 and 1968 presidential elections. It contributed to the electoral realignment of some Southern states to the Republican Party, but at the expense of losing more than 90 percent of black voters to the Democratic Party. As the twentieth century came to a close, the Republican Party began trying to appeal again to black voters, though with little success. In 2005, Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman acknowledged the Southern strategy and formally apologized to the NAACP for ignoring the black vote in the previous century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Strategy Tourism in Cuba is an industry that generates over 3 million arrivals per year, and is one of the main sources of revenue for the island. With its favorable climate, beaches, colonial architecture and distinct cultural history, Cuba has long been an attractive destination for tourists. Having been Spain's last, oldest, and closest colony until 1901, in the first part of the 20th century Cuba continued to benefit from big investments, creation of industries, and immigration. Its proximity and close relation to the United States also helped Cuba's market economy prosper fairly quickly. As relations between Cuba and the United States deteriorated rapidly after the Cuban Revolution and the resulting expropriation and nationalisation of businesses, the island became cut off from its traditional market by an embargo and a travel ban was imposed on U.S. citizens visiting Cuba. The tourist industry declined to record low levels within two years of Castro's accession to power. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but busy town in which the Red Star and portraits of Che Guevara are displayed for all to see. In the old town, colourful houses with beautiful pillared corridors demonstrate the former wealth of the country’s independent tobacco growers. Time means little here. While observing life on the streets, one begins to think in the same relaxed tempo of the leisurely-smoked cigars. A visit to a tobacco factory is a must. Cuba’s cigars are world famous. Together with sugar, tobacco is the country’s most important export. The oldest geological formation in Cuba are the Mogotes, well-weathered limestone peaks which, supported by pillars, once covered a large complex of caves. Over many decades, subterranean rivers flooded the earth below and thus created these gigantic grottos. On seven manmade islands in the centre of the Cienaga De Zapata National Park, is the Indian village of Guama. This swampy nature reserve with its dense mangrove forest vegetation offers an ideal sanctuary for many rare water birds. No Cuban town has changed as little in two hundred years than that of Trinidad. In the 18th century, the city experienced great wealth and recognition due to the cultivation of sugar cane and the luxurious palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city. U-S visitors to the island last year represented a small proportion of the total number - an estimated 173- thousand - but they are seen here as among the big spenders. Other island nations in the Carribbean, where tourism relies heavily on the U-S market, are equally feeling the pinch according to Cuba's Tourism Vice Minister Antonio Romerillo. But what could complicate matters further is Cuba's listing alongside Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, North Korea and Sudan, as a promotor of terrorism by the U-S. Political lobby groups from the U-S were, until recently, hopeful an embargo on U-S visitors to the communist island just ninety miles off the coast of Florida would go by the end of this year. Last month, representative Jeff Flake was in Cuba to push the case further forward. He argued that increased contact with Americans and their democratic ideas could help force reforms within Fidel Castro's authoritarian government. Mangroves and everglades, flamingos and roseate spoonbills, sun-bleached sand and turquoise waters make this little corner the perfect retreat. Linked to the mainland by a causeway, Cayo Coco is Cuba’s most popular beach destination after Varadero. The cay boasts 22km of white-sand beaches, the perfect backdrop for water sports such as windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling and fishing. Much smaller, Cayo Guillermo is famous for its sand dunes, which are among the tallest in the Caribbean, its deep-sea fishing and its connection to Ernest Hemingway. For our honeymoon we decided to visit Cuba together for the first time to relax at an all inclusive resort at Cayo Santa Maria with Air Canada Vacations. Samuel's blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com Audrey's blog: http://thatbackpacker.com In every sense this was our vacation from travel as we completely went offline. As online workers, it was refreshing knowing we had no access to the internet and that our only immediate concern was to relax and have fun. We spent the majority of our week long stay enjoying the beach. If we weren't splashing and riding waves in the turquoise water we were keeping cool under a sun umbrella or gazebo. Our biggest concern of the day was deciding what to wear as all of our food and drinks were included for the entire week. Whether we wanted to order a pizza at 3 pm or have a buffet lunch or dinner was entirely up to us. Moreover, we had the opportunity to drink all kinds of delicious nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages such as Pina Colada, Cuba Libre, Cuban Rum, Bucanero, Cerveza Cristal, TuKola Ciego Montero, Cristal Beer, Cuban Beer and Rum and Coke. On afternoons that weren't spent at the beach, we often were hanging out at the pool participating in aqua aerobics, yoga, tai chi or life sized chess. The few times we set our alarms in the morning, we were rewarded with spectacular sunrises and in the evening brilliant sunsets. There was also a small village at the perimeter of our resort where we could pick up Cuba souvenirs such as Cuban cigars and Cuban paintings. For nighttime entertainment we enjoyed live Cuban music and dance performances including Cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba and Salsa. The week flew by and this is the type of Cuban vacation I've always dreamed off. If we reach a point where we feel stressed out or in need of a digital detox we'll certainly considering coming back to Cuba again. Our honeymoon in Cuba: Cuba vacation in Cayo Santa Maria This week Sam and I are in Cuba on our honeymoon. Woo! So yeah, we're going to be spending a full week here at an all inclusive. We are staying in Cayo Santa Maria and we are going to be showing you what it is like to just take a week off, relax and not really travel. I think it is beach time. After a year and a half of round the world travels, we wanted our honeymoon to be very relaxed and easy going. This was very unlike us, but we didn't plan any side trips or run around touring attractions. Our trip to Cuba was all about enjoying the beach, drinking pina coladas, and cooling off in the pool. The Caribbean is home to some spectacular beaches, but we think Cuba may have the best of them all! So it is time to play life sized chess. I think I can probably beat Sam. So how was that easy victory of yours? Huh? Let's count how many pieces I have left. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven. And I only have my King. That is so rude. You didn't let your new bride win. Domination. Domination. Cuban singing, dancing and performing. The most work we did was set the alarm clock to go catch a beach sunrise. One of the best part of being at an all inclusive resort is the endless supply of drinks. Rum and coke. Pina Colada. Bucanero. Cola Ciego Montero Cristal So it must be over forty degrees today and the sea is a bit choppy so it is a perfect day for the pool. The pool was the heart of the action. By 10 am the crowd had descended for an endless flow of rum. There were also lots of fun activities like water aerobics to keep everyone entertained. While we didn't leave the resort, we did make some time to pick up a few souvenirs to take back home. Cuban rum, anyone? And aside from that, we just spent more time at the beach! The waters were so calm and inviting, that we often spent the whole day there just reading book and enjoying the beauty of it all. And that's a little taste of our Cuban honeymoon. Ten prominent New York City chefs are teaming up with ten culinary entrepreneurs from Havana's budding private restaurant scene, cooking up savoury and sweet multi-course meals in an improvised shipping-container kitchen. Blending contemporary American, Italian, Japanese, even Burmese cuisines with Caribbean Creole classics, "Project Paladar," named after the independent restaurants which are booming in Cuba, is a rare culinary treat in a country where many state-run and independent restaurants have a reputation for serving up bland, unimaginative fare. It's also a performance art spectacle which is all about bridging the gap between estranged neighbours. "We've been talking about this project for a long, long time," said Sara Jenkins, the project's chef director and proprietor of West Village eateries Porchetta and Porsena. "There have been so many things to overcome and bringing it here. It sounded fun, and amazing, and interesting from the beginning and to actually be here and have made it work - pretty amazing," she added. "Project Paladar" is part of Havana's biennial art festival, an irreverent event which is attracting 180 artists from 43 countries, mostly in Latin America, as well as thousands of art aficionados. For the next 10 days the chefs will take turns pairing off and serving up three and four-course meals in the back patio of a cultural centre in Old Havana. Visitors are escorted to a table for 12, an homage to the maximum number of seats that "paladares," or privately run restaurants, were allowed to have when they first appeared in the 1990s. Half the free seats are reserved for invited guests, the other half for walk-ins. The staff is bilingual, and the idea is to force diners and chefs alike to overcome barriers of culture, language, and more than five decades of animosity between their governments. "It's an opening to dialogue, to a desire to do things together. We're contrasting art, food, and fusion," said Hector Higuera Martinez, the man behind the stylish paladar Le Chansonnier in Havana's Vedado neighbourhood. Traditional Cuban food making a comeback in new wave of restaurants

Traditional Cuban food is coming back to restaurants across Havana. Many dishes had become harder to make and were slowly disappearing due to the island's struggling economy. But economic reforms have allowed new eateries to flourish in many neighbourhoods. STORYLINE: Traditional Cuban food is back on the menu at restaurants all over the capital, Havana. What's more, a new wave of privately owned restaurants is opening up across town. It's down to economic reforms implemented by President Raul Castro and a relaxing of the rules to enable even some state-owned establishments to be leased to private citizens. The reforms are providing chefs with jobs and the opportunity to reclaim some traditional dishes that were on the verge of being forgotten during years of economic scarcity. Eddy Fernandez, president of Cuba's Federation of Culinary Associations says the difficulty chefs had in sourcing ingredients in the past has given Cuban cuisine a bad name internationally. He says: "Unfortunately, some people have the wrong idea about our cuisine. They think that Cubans only eat rice and beans. It's true that it's a good combination on our family table, but it's not the only thing." The Federation of Culinary Associations recently held a convention with 120 chefs from around the island in Havana. . Chef Eddy Fernandez has been in the restaurant business for three decades. He agrees that the tough times of economic scarcity made it difficult to put together a menu. He says globalisation trends are also threatening local dishes, but times are changing in Cuba: "I think Cuban cuisine was never really lost. Years ago because of a resource problem and a lack of raw materials, we didn't have the necessary elements to prepare good Cuban cuisine." Both Fernandez and his chef colleagues hope that fellow Cubans and visitors alike will rediscover the strong seasoning of Cuban food, a fusion of aboriginal traditions with an African and European flair. One of the most common complaints among tourists and locals is the lack of good customer service that suffered after the government nationalisations in the 1960s. The government takeovers did away with the sense of ownership among people working in the food industry. As time went by, dishes such as the "Bacan" (a type of plantain tamale), okra with chicken, cassava fritters, and the creole "ajiaco" (a soup/stew with various meats and vegetables) were lost. In 2010, President Raul Castro announced a gradual opening to privatisation in various sectors where services could be more efficient. The Cuban government would continue to manage the health and education systems and large industry, while allowing the public to get involved in the running of restaurants, barber shops, shoe repair and gardening concerns among others. Hundreds of "paladares" (a word meaning palate) the name used for private restaurants, began sprouting up around the island. Some in elegant mansions in places like Old Havana and others in simple roadside stands. In a recent new twist, the government is beginning to offer the administration of publicly owned restaurants to the workers in exchange for a strict tax policy. Salaries for kitchen personnel are also rising; in the old state-run facilities workers earned roughly 700 Cuban pesos per month (30 US dollars) and possibly some tips. Under the new arrangement in "paladares" or co-op restaurants, they make an average of 200 or 300 CUC (the other Cuban currency which is 1-to-1 with the dollar). Chef, Cipriano Cortina says that will not be difficult to achieve: "Cuban cuisine is fabulous! Everyone in the world who tries Cuban food wants to open a restaurant. It has variety, it has flavour, a flavour that penetrates. Cuban cuisine, yeah!" She says that for first time, important American press are saying good things about Cuba, ‘almost a historical event.’ She argues that a cultural exchange is needed in order for Britain to get to know the real Cuba, and also for Cuba to get to know Britain. She warns that public opinion in the US is easily manipulated by the media, but slowly people are realising that they have a closer relationship than they think, and there is hope that the blockade could be lifted. She says that Britain does have the right to refuse entry for one of the Miami 5, but it is not a decision that she understands. She explains that the blockade affects their relationship with every country in the world as the US seeks to prevent free trade between Cuba and any country, not just America. And she believes that Cameron could break the blockade, and he should not let the States influence the relationship between the UK and Cuba. Because its rooms have a high ceiling, the roof of the building is at the same level as the tower of the church. As everywhere in the torrid zone, the people here like living their lives in the streets. In the side streets opening from the square, the Presbyterian church and the big parish church can be found. The museum of colonial arts lies on the road leading to the River Yayabo.
