Plot
Buttoned up junior attorney Sydney Babcock is right on track with her perfectly ordered life. She's got the perfect job at the perfect company, and she's about to marry the perfect guy. When a last minute assignment tears her away from her Midwestern bridal shower, she heads to exotic, chaotic Los Angeles where she runs smack into a wacky bunch of mismatched characters who comprise the remaining "entourage" of a long dead rock star named Eli Trainor. She must seek their help to locate and bring back her company's recently acquired assets; the master tapes of Eli Trainor's eagerly anticipated, never released second album. There's just one problem. Supposedly, the "only" masters went down with Eli in a tragic plane crash some thirty years ago. The scent of money is in the air and it's game on for Sydney as she tries to navigate through completely unfamiliar territory full of ulterior motives, silly old vendettas and good old fashioned greed. The only question is, are the locals truly trying to help Sydney find the lost masters or will Eli Trainor and "the music that might have been" always remain an almost perfect rock and roll mystery?

In this segment, Judy Woodruff, Co-Anchor, PBS NewsHour, and Mark Trahant, Atwood Chair of Journalism, University of Alaska Anchorage, interview Kevin Gover, Director of the National Museum of the American Indian, and Suzan Shown Harjo, Guest Curator, about the exhibition. Judy Woodruff is the Co-Anchor and Managing Editor of the PBS NewsHour with Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff. A distinguished broadcast journalist, she has covered politics and other news for more than three decades at CNN, NBC, and PBS. For 12 years, Woodruff served as anchor and senior correspondent for CNN, where her duties included anchoring the weekday program, “Inside Politics.” At PBS from 1983 to 1993, she was the chief Washington correspondent for The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. From 1984-1990, she also anchored PBS' award-winning weekly documentary series, “Frontline with Judy Woodruff.” In addition, she anchors a monthly program for Bloomberg Television, “Conversations with Judy Woodruff.” Mark Trahant (Shoshone-Bannock Tribes) is at the University of Alaska Anchorage where he currently serves as the Atwood Journalism Chair. An independent print and broadcast journalist, he blogs and posts often on Twitter. Trahant was recently a Kaiser Media Fellow and was previously editor of the editorial page for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. A former president of the Native American Journalists Association, Trahant is the author of The Last Great Battle of the Indian Wars, about Henry Jackson, Forrest Gerard, and the campaign for American Indian self-determination. Kevin Gover (Pawnee) is the director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and a former professor of law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University (ASU). He served on the faculty of the university’s Indian Legal Program and was co-executive director of ASU’s American Indian Policy Institute. From 1997 to 2001 Gover was the assistant secretary for Indian Affairs in the U.S. Department of the Interior. His tenure in that position is perhaps best known for his apology to Native American people for the historical conduct of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne and Hodulgee Muscogee), president of The Morning Star Institute, a national Indian rights organization founded in 1984, is a writer, curator, and policy advocate who has helped Native Nations recover sacred places and more than one million acres of land. Since 1975, she has developed key federal Indian law, including the most important national policy advances in the modern era for the protection of Native American ancestors, arts, cultures, languages, and religious freedom. A poet and an award-winning columnist, her work appears in numerous publications, and she received the Institute of American Indian Arts’ first honorary doctorate of humanities awarded to a woman. Dr. Harjo is a founder of the National Museum of the American Indian and has served as a guest curator and editor of this and various museum projects. This symposium was webcast and recorded in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. on September 18. 2014.

Miss Indian World 2014 2015 Taylor Thomas Journey Hello everyone! My name is Taylor Christianna Thomas and my Indian name is Onsoquah, "How The Elk Walks." I am the 2014-2015 Miss Indian World. I am Shoshone-Bannock, Kickapoo, and Prairie Band Potawatomi of Kansas, and I come from the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in Southeast Idaho. As Miss Indian World I enjoyed speaking at, and attending conferences, powwows, and gatherings in Idaho, Utah, California, Washington, Florida, Georgia, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. I had two goals at the beginning of my reign, and they were to travel to Canada, and meet President Barack Obama. As Miss Indian World my platform was “Indian Pride.” More specifically, my message was: “We all have a purpose, everyone is gifted with strength and medicine to share, and to contribute to the world. To the youth, we are not leaders of tomorrow, but we are leaders of today. To all young women, we are capable of changing, and influencing our communities as leaders. Follow your dreams, and become the inspiration you seek in the world.” I shared these messages as often as possible, as they are close to my heart. My year was filled with many amazing experiences, and actually historical ones as well. Idaho Rep. Michael K. Simpson recognized me on Congressional Record of the 113th Congress, Second Session on April 30, 2014. Congressmen Simpson congratulated me on being crowned Miss Indian World, and for being an ambassador for Idaho, and the Shoshone-Bannock tribes. I am the first Miss Indian World to be recognized on Congressional Record, the second Shoshone-Bannock tribal member, as well as the first woman, and the only living Shoshone-Bannock tribal member to be recognized on Congressional Record. Some of the greatest highlights of my Miss Indian World journey have been meeting President Barack Obama in January, at his speech in Boise, Idaho. After being picked out of the crowd, I had the opportunity to meet him, get a picture, and have a brief conversation. I also spoke at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Youth Honoring luncheon, the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) conference, and the Northwest Indian Youth Conference (NIYC), where I had a session dedicated to Women’s Leadership, and Youth Leadership. I also rode in a canoe for the first time attending the Salmon Ceremony with the Tulalip people, and I rode horses in the Comanche Fair, the Shoshone-Bannock Festival, and the Pendleton Round Up parades. "Miss Indian World is a role model to all ages and will spend an exciting year traveling throughout the USA and Canada representing the beauty and diversity of Native American, Aboriginal and Indigenous cultures and the Gathering of Nations, Ltd.Powwow."
