Xenia Tchoumi gives in her TEDxKoeln Talk an insight into her different identities. Internet is a low cost, democratic tool that – until now – has been quite unrestricted in many parts of the world. Women (and other social groups that are often discriminated against) have now a stronger voice and can reach a larger audience, just by sitting in front of a laptop or on a smartphone in their house. Forums, social media, blogs, video platforms and websites are all tools in which likeminded people can create communities and convey messages. Whether it’s trough entertainment, fashion, cooking, self-help or literature, the new technologies help us to branch out from old, rigid, social structures.
Xenia has made the experience of discrimination and sexism as an attractive woman in several professional fields she has worked in. She want to spread the message of how we can overcome these – thanks to tools like the internet, and mainly through a mentality shift for all men and women of 2015.
Xenia Tchoumi is an online entrepreneur, model and a digital celebrity. Swiss-Italian with Russian origins, she speaks six languages (Italian, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish) and holds a University degree in Science of Economics. Parallel to her studies and work experiences in investment banking, she was elected Miss Photogenique and first runner up at the Miss Switzerland contest. The attention from journalists brought her to fame: she then decided to self-manage her image and contracts and became spokes-model for major fashion brands and tv presenter.
Xenia hosted her own TV-show about business in Italy called „L’Italia Che Funziona“, interviews successful people in „La Recette De Mon Succès“ and has her own column in the american Haute Living Magazine and the British Le Grand Mag. She gives leadership speeches at universities and conferences.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Self-advocates tell in their own words, "What is Self-Determination and Why is it Important" -- the first in a series of topic-related videos for the National Gateway to Self-Determination.
The National Gateway on Self-Determination presents a number of video and multi-media suggestions for learning more about Self-Determination.
"What is Self-Determination and Why is it Important" is part of a multi-media product consisting of a print-based, 16-page full-color publication and an accompanying web-presence that elaborates on stories and themes introduced in the print publication. The product, both print and web-based, provides a user-friendly, attractive introduction to self-determination and its importance in the lives of people with developmental disabilities by relating the stories of self-advocates, as well as their family and support staff. These stories, presented in pictures and narrative in the print product and via videos streamed online from which the print narrative and pictures are taken, provide information about the role of self-determination in their lives across multiple domains, including employment, independent living, self-advocacy, and health and recreation, and emphasize the importance of friendships, social capital, and social inclusion.

Research by psychologists Richard Ryan, PhD, and Edward Deci, PhD, on Self-Determination Theory indicates that intrinsic motivation... flourishes in contexts that satisfy human needs for competence, autonomy, and relatedness.
-American Psychological Association, July 21, 2004
Our 3 basic needs are autonomy, competence, and relatedness
We have heard somethings about them today but I’m just going to briefly say what they are
Relatedness
For us relatedness is feeling cared for and connected to others
It has to do with a sense of belonging
A feeling that you matter to the other people that are there
And relatedness is enhanced not just by people treating you warming and including you
but its also enhanced by your giving to them and your being able to matter in their lives
Thats part of what helps us feel connected.
So its not a one way street in relatedness it has to do with both and again we will show evidence to that effect
Competence
Competence is really commonly studied in psycology.
Most theories of psychology would probably agree with us on this one point which is competence is essential to wellness
to feel effective in your environment, to have some sense of mastery of the things that are important to you very very important
And environments can have a big impact on that experience
Autonomy
And finally relatedness I mean autonomy which as probably been the most controversial
but also the most central of all our psychological needs in the sense of research and our integrated mission so to speak
Autonomy refers to behavior that is self endorsed
That you agree with and find congruent with in yourself
And so autonomy here means you feel choice full self initiating
And when you’re fully autonomous you’re whole heartedly behind the thing that you are doing
And again because of that whole heartedness thats why performance tends to be better when you’re acting out of autonomous motives

This video is located on the I'm Determined Website: www.imdetermined.org. It is called the Self-Determination Youth Credo. It is a statement of beliefs by youth with disabilities in Virginia. It was started during the 2008 Self-Determination Youth Summit in Roanoke, Virginia. Over the past year, youth used a wiki and Facebook to discuss the Credo and make changes to it. The idea for this Credo came from the Credo for Support, a short video the youth saw on YouTube during the 2008 Youth Summit. The youth of Virginia hope that this video has a powerful effect on you. Please share our Credo with your family, friends, and co-workers. Let all youth with disabilities become self-determined!

"The game is on." In this first segment, Oren Lyons shares on the importance of Self Determination and the protection of languages and cultures for our collective survival as a species.
Transcript:
In the whole discussion on the Declaration of Rights of Indigenous People, Self Determination was a key issue. And we were challenged for years and years and years by the United States and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, on that issue. That particular issue. Identity is fundamental to peace of mind. You have a right to be who you are. That's your right to self determination. And it's not given to you by anybody. And that's the problem we face now in contemporary times...so finally when we had the vote for...would the United Nation accept that Declaration as part of it's protocol, as part of it's rules, and they said yes. 147 countered voted for it, and 11 countries abstained, and 4 voted against it: United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. These are supposed to be democratic countries, and yet they voted agains out right to determine who we are. And so the right to self determination and the right to your identity is fundamental to peace, equity. And you work better, you work together. There's knowledge in all of these languages. There's knowledge in these cultures. We have to collectively work together to survive now. So we're at a crux, we're at a point now where all of these huge systemic changes that we have started is now moving, and the only way we're going to be able to mitigate that is to control the amount of carbon dioxide that goes into the...atmosphere and methane, methane's a lot more powerful that carbon dioxide. And as the permanent, so called permanent ice melts, it's releasing methane. And as the ice in the north melts, it's going to release more, and I have no idea what will happen when that goes except that it's not going to be good. So time is of the essence. The principal of the common good must come forward now, the principals of self determination and protection of cultures and ideas - it's going to be a collective process to survive as a species, and we don't think it's too late, but it's getting late fast. And so we urge all people to change their values to the long term thinking, and to protect the seven generations, protect life as it is. Game is on.

The UN chief has joined the chorus of Spanish leaders opposing the secession of Catalonia from mainland Spain.
Ban Ki-moon says the United Nations doesn’t view Spain's separatist-ruled region as having the right to self-determination. In an interview published by mainstream Spanish newspapers, Ban said that Catalonia is part of an independent and sovereign country. The pro-independence parties in the wealthy northeastern Spanish region are seeking to pass a resolution in the Catalan parliament in early November. The proposed resolution will be the formal start of Catalonia's secession from Spain. Catalan groups have already agreed on a document that states the future state will be a republic. Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has called on opposition leaders to discuss the issue in order to maintain stability in the run-up to general elections in December.

The Embassy of Pakistan organized a Seminar at the Embassy’s premises today, to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event attended by a sizeable number of Kashmiri and Pakistani community was organized to pay tribute to the valiant Kashmiris, fighting for their right of self-determination for decades, in most cruel and inhuman situation imposed upon them by the Indian occupation forces. The gathering was addressed by prominent Pakistani/Kashmiri community members.
The Kashmir speakers highlighted the miserable plight of Kashmiris living in the occupied valley and wide spread human rights violations committed by the Indian troops, under the Armed Forces Special Powers Acts. They lamented that the world powers had turned a blind eye to the just cause of Kashmir, to save their economic and commercial interests. Ambassador H.E Mr. Jauhar Saleem in his remarks observed that Kashmir could not be kept under unlawful occupation by India indefinitely; using brutal force, and that the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their legitimate right of self-determination was destined to succeed. He added that the world community owed it to the people Kashmir to put pressure on India to deliver on its pledge made to the United Nations 68 years ago and give the right of self-determination to the people of the valley. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, based on UN resolutions. A documentary highlighting human rights violations in the occupied valley was shown on this occasion. Here are a few glimpses of the event.

KQED News report from February 17th 1968 at the Oakland Auditorium, featuring excerpts from speeches on Black Power and African American self-determination by Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (H. Rap Brown) and Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael). These are delivered as part of the Huey P. Newton birthday rally, to protest Newton's arrest and imprisonment in 1967. Al-Amin states that: "Unlike America would have us believe, the greatest problem confronting this country today is not pollution and bad breath. It's black people! ... You see that's just one of the big lies that America tells you and that you go for because you're chumps!" Ture instructs the audience that: "We must first develop an undying love for our people ... an undying love as is personified in brother Huey P. Newton ... If we do not do that, we will be wiped out." Opens with a brief glimpse of Al-Amin, Ture and James Forman on-stage together. It should be noted that Al-Amin was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC); Forman was the international affairs director of SNCC and the group's former executive secretary and Ture was the former chairman of SNCC, who, during this rally, was appointed as the honorary prime minister of the "Black Nation" (the Oakland-based Black Panther Party (BPP).

Imperialism, Self-Determination & Human Rights
Decolonization was a human rights victory. But did its prime movers and ideologues conceive of it in terms of the "human rights" the United Nations declared, and eventually canonized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948? Was self-determination a human right in those early years -- and if not, when did it become one? This lecture by Samuel Moyn investigates and answers these questio

THE REAL WORLD MATRIX...
Everyone And Everything That Is Plugged In Is Bound By The Rules:
Since the movie THE MATRIX was released in 1999, the word Matrix has come to mean a trap or web...a technological program of slavery and control. Although you may sense this is true, most people don't know "what it is". The reason you don't know is because you have never been shown the Real-World matrix. For instance, the Movie was (most likely) named after a Mathematical Program created in 1958 by Wassily Leontief.
Who was Wassily Leontief?
Leontief was born in Munich, Germany in the year 1905.
He was a mathematician who used an 81x81matrix of quadratic equations to solve for every variable of input and output data in the United States economy. For this he won a Nobel Prize. Since that time...a basis software program was created and runs inside the IRS and global banking computers.
That program is called the LEONTIEF MATRIX.
This Mathematical Matrix is about an energy transfer using current-See and your Account-ability. Therefore; banking becomes the primary [accounting] business on the Planet and involves regulation by treaties and global agreements.
These agreements create the rules that control most of the details of your life...where/when you work; how you get food, water and energy to use.
Remember--Neo was told he was born a slave and most people when shown the Real Matrix; they do the same thing that Neo did....they either reject it or want to revolt.
But, THE MATRIX was not about remaining a slave and Revolution was/is not the Solution. THE MATRIX movies were about changing the agreement and then separating from THE MATRIX in peace.
And that is what this information is about, CHANGE.
Neo could "see" his condition because he saw the Matrix for exactly what it is. Agent Smith was the dark side of Neo...the egotistical-selfish side...with a massive "look at me; it's my world" attitude. In the end, Neo had to destroy that ego. He had to destroy his own anger and the "me" attitude that threatened to tear down the World.
Neo had to accept his "Smith" and overcome himself (Smith) for the greater good of Zion. Neo opted for peaceful co-existence so that both peoples; Zion and the Machine-World would survive and not be destroyed.
And....This is what you must do. The real-world controls come from your own agreements, and contracts/treaties, which form the rules and laws. As Morpheus told Neo, the Matrix is governed by rules, and being "plugged-in" you are bound by those rules.
SO...the solution is knowledge and then acceptance to forge NEW Agreements.
It's an "in-coded" system and you must "see the codes" to get free...

This lecture by Samuel Moyn investigates and answers these questions, arguing that human rights history is more interesting and accurate when it is viewed alongside decolonization, which had to conclude as a process and falter as an ideal for the contemporary enthusiasm for international human rights to explode.

Attie Schutte is an Afrikaner blogger and political activist who lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. His interest varies from self-sufficient localism and Ethno-Nationalism to Austrian economics and the various schools of Anarchism. He's a member of the Orania Movement. We'll discuss never spoken of events in South Africa that concern colonialism, Apartheid and post-Apartheid life. Attie also shares some history of early Europeans in South Africa. What is life like in South Africa's "rainbow nation" How is the White minority treated in South Africa Attie tells about violence against White South Africans and why the media doesn't report it. We'll discuss healthy segregation verses government intervention and how government is always a force behind genocide. Attie speaks against government policy involving discrimination and race based conflicts. Government always creates more problems. We'll talk about one Afrikaner self determined community called Orania that refuses to be part of South Africa's "rainbow nation" and how they're labeled racists for propagating Afrikaner culture in solitude. Orania is the only hope of survival for the Afrikaners wanting their own government, in their own territory. We talk about the healthy aspect of separate homelands for every ethnic group and how it can bring the most amount of peace. Later, we discuss the current colonization of Europe, the failure of democracy and the idea of Free Market Nationalism.

Violations of Human Rights and the Rights to
Self-Determination of the People of Acheh
A Remark By Yusuf Daud
Vice Chairman, Acheh Sumatra National Liberation Front (ASNLF) Palais Des Nations, Geneva, March 14, 2014
Mr. Moderator, Ladies and Gentleman:
First of all I would like to express my genuine appreciation for your presence here today. Also to the UNPO and the Nonviolent Radical Party for having organized this conference.
Brief History of Acheh
Acheh is located at the northern tip of the island Sumatra, bordered by the Malacca Straits on the North and the Indian Ocean on the South and has around 6 million inhabitants. Acheh was the centre of a powerful empire for several centuries and has a long and impressive history of resistance to outside domination. Acheh is also abundantly rich in natural resources: oil, gas, gold, platinum, tin, rubber, etc.
For hundreds of years before the arrival of the European powers to South-east Asia and for many centuries thereafter, Acheh remained an internationally recognized independent State having diplomatic relations with the rest of the world. The Larousse Grand Dictionnaire Universel described the Kingdom of Acheh as "the most dominant nation in the East Indies towards the end of the sixteenth and until the first half of the seventeenth century." (Volume 1, p.70, Paris 1886).
When most part of the Malay archipelago were incorporated into the Dutch East Indies, Acheh happened to be one of the most difficult areas to be subdued. After the Japanese capitulation to the allied forces in August 1945, the Dutch attempted to restore their former colonial empire but Acheh was the only place where they did not even try to return. On December 27, 1949, seven years after their withdrawal from Acheh, the Dutch signed a treaty with the newly created "Indonesia" and transferred their non-existent sovereignty over Acheh to Indonesia, without referendum or consultation with the people of Acheh, and against all principles of decolonization of the UN. This is how Acheh was illegally made part of Indonesia.
On the basis of the above-mentioned historical status of Acheh as an independent State, and on the basis of the Dutch illegal annexation of Acheh to Indonesia, the Acheh Sumatra National Liberation Front (ASNLF) was then established in 1976, and the re-declaration of an independent Acheh was issued on December 4 in the same year. The re-establishment of Acheh as the successor State is supported by a number of UN Resolutions, such as the Resolution 1514 (XXV), stipulating that “sovereignty over a colonial territory is not transferable by one colonial power to another”.
Human rights violations
Before discussing about Human rights situation in Indonesia, especially in Acheh, South Moluccas and West Papua, I would like to refresh our memories by citing some quotes from renowned human rights organisations pertaining to thirty years of armed conflicts between Acheh and Indonesia:
"Violence is certainly an important part of the short history of Indonesia. The Indonesian government has systematically violated fundamental human rights for over 20 years and continues to do so with impunity." (Asia Watch Report 1990, twenty four years ago)
Amnesty International, Focus on Acheh, July 1993, twenty one years ago, wrote.".....Disregard for human life is an integral part of the Indonesian security forces' approach to its work. Killings, "disappearances", arbitrary arrests, and torture have been institutionalised as the normal response to political dissent and other perceived threats to national security."
The above formulations are just a sample of the situation prevailing in Acheh during the era of Military Operational Area called DOM, between 1989-1998. And this also shows us the true characteristics of Indonesia in dealing with the human rights and political problems of Acheh.
The atrocities perpetrated through these years have no equal in the history of Acheh fighting against any colonial powers in the past. An estimation of about 40,000 innocent Achehnese lost their lives in military custody, in hidden mass graves, or in secret concentration camps.
End of DOM
After a decade of these brutalities and the downfall of Suharto in May 1998, the DOM was lifted. President BJ. Habibie and General Wiranto took the helm of the country and came to Acheh to apologize for the excesses committed by their soldiers. At long last, democracy came to Indonesia in 1999 and the era of reformation began. But unfortunately these changes did not extend to Acheh. For the people of Acheh, the year 1999 was the worst year in our history, the year of massacres. The reformist administration then introduced "Operasi Wibawa 99", Assert Authority Operation, a joint military - police operation. Its brutalities surpassed those of the DOM...
