Today, Eastern Orthodox Christianity flourishes in the Balkans and Russia, with over 150 million members worldwide. It is unlike Catholicism or Protestantism - worship is carefully choreographed, icons pull the faithful into a mystical union with Christ, and everywhere there is a symbol of a fierce-looking bird, the double-headed eagle. What story is this ancient drama trying to tell us?
In the third part of his journey into the history of Christianity, Professor Diarmaid MacCulloch charts Orthodoxy's extraordinary fight for survival. After its glory days in the eastern Roman Empire, it stood right in the path of Muslim expansion, suffered betrayal by crusading Catholics, was seized by the Russian tsars and faced near-extinction under Soviet communism.
MacCulloch visits the greatest collection of early icons in the Sinai desert, a surviving relic of the iconoclastic crisis in Istanbul and Ivan the Terrible's cathedral in Moscow to discover the secret of Orthodoxy's endurance.

How old is the EASTERN ORTHODOX CHURCH ?
True Christianity is the Eastern Orthodox Faith.
If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517. If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry. If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560. If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582. If you are Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England, founded by Samuel Senbury in the American colonies in the 17th century. If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1606. If you are of the Dutch Reformed Church, you recognize Michelis Jones as founder because he originated your religion in New York in 1628. If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1774. If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, New York, in 1829. If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865. If you are Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mary Baker Eddy as its founder. If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as "Church of the Nazarene, Pentecostal Gospel," "Holiness Church," or "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past hundred years.
If you are Roman Catholic, your church shared the same rich apostolic and doctrinal heritage as the Orthodox Church for the first thousand years of its history, since during the first millennium they were one and the same Church. Lamentably, in 1054, the Pope of Rome broke away from the other four Apostolic Patriarchates (which include Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem), by tampering with the Original Creed of the Church, and considering himself to be infallible. Thus your church is 1,000 years old.
If you are an ORTHODOX Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our church is now almost 2,000 years old. And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new millennium.

If you are ORTHODOX Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

ORTHODOX FAITH:
Concerning the Holy Trinity
I believe, confess and worship the Holy Trinity. I worship the One, Holy, Indivisible, Consubstantial, Life-Creating and Most Holy Trinity. In the Trinity I worship three persons -- three hypostases -- that of the Father, that of the Son and that of the Holy Spirit. I do not confuse the persons of the Most Holy Trinity. I do not believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are, as it were, three masks of a single person. None of the persons is alienated from the others, but each has the fulness of the Three together.
Concerning Immortality
I believe that only God is eternal and immortal by nature and in essence. The angels and the souls of men are immortal only because God bestows this immortality upon them by grace. If if were not for the immortality which God bestows by His divine will, neither the angels nor the souls of men would be immortal of themselves.
Men's souls have no pre-existence. The how of the soul's birth, as well as separation from the body at the moment of the latter's biological death that it might be reunited to the body when the dead are raised at the Second and glorious Coming of our Saviour is a mystery which has not been revealed to us.

The speaker, Father Thomas Hopko, is one of the greatest English-speaking academic scholars in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He is also, one the more liberal (on the subject of unifying the Christian faith) spokesmen for the Eastern Orthodox Church. Father Tom is Dean Emeritus of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and the author of numerous books and articles. He is very optimistic compared to most other well-informed Orthodox leaders.
Can the Roman Catholics, reject the filoque, purgatory, papal authority as we know it, the Immaculate Conception, the normative use of unleavened bread for Communion, and more? If not, one of Orthodoxy's most easy going and most willing to recommend compromise paints an ugly picture for those Roman Christians who feel this centuries-old schism can some how be set aside.
Remember, in the Orthodox Church, no single person, no committee and not even a popular vote can change anything concerning the faith. Jude 3. So, it is simply impossible for the Orthodox Church to adopt the Roman position on these issues.

If you never took in school or study History of Christianity or the Christian Church, this (3 Part Documentary) will help you a lot. Our journey begins with the founding of the Church, the spread of Christianity to "nations" by the Apostles, the Gospel and the institution of Sacraments. After the stabilization of the Church, the journey continues through the period of the Nicene Creed, Patristic Scriptures, Divine Liturgy and Icons. During this same period, however, the official division of East and West is witnessed and concludes with a gradual rift in matters of faith, dogma, church customs, politics and culture. The Church becomes the only institution perceived by Greeks as the preserver of their national identity during 400 years of Turkish rule. By the end of the 19th century, a worldwide Orthodox community is born and the Church expands its influence to major social and philanthropic concerns.

The Bethlehem Holy Fire has arrived in Odesa, Ukraine for the first time. Volunteers annnounced plans to show it to children at orphanages throughout the region. The Holy Fire is the most renowned miracle in the world of Eastern Orthodoxy. Orthodox Christians cherish it as the see it as a continuous reminder of the Lord's resurrection.
Orthodox tradition holds that the Holy Fire is a miracle that happens annually on the day preceding Orthodox Easter, in which a blue light emanates within Jesus Christ's tomb (usually rising from the marble slab covering the stone bed believed to be that upon which Jesus' body was placed for burial) now in the Holy Sepulchre, which eventually forms a column containing a form of fire, from which candles are lit, which are then used to light the candles of the clergy and pilgrims in attendance. The fire is also said to spontaneously light other lamps and candles around the church. Pilgrims and clergy claim that the Holy Fire does not burn them.

A Miracle occurs annually in Greece on 15 August since 1705.
Where there's a convent in West Island Kefalonia, Greece.
Where The Pirates Turks in 1705 from the monastery for stealing the nuns lifting prayers warmly for his saints the virgin Mary to intervene and save them.
Indeed responded in Saint Mary and sent their snakes to the monastery as soon as I broke into Pirates Abbey found him full of snakes everywhere and the fugitives from fear and panic and stay away from the convent and ignore.
Since that year and until this day show these snakes in this monastery but it doesn't hurt anyone.
These snakes have small cross on her head shaped like a cross and also in the form of a cross. Show in and around the church yard, and on the walls and on the bell tower.
. It also shows the snakes during mass and is harmless during celebrations crawl snakes on icon Saint Mary as if she offered her honor. Like crawling towards the priest and to present nor harm anyone.
Once to end mass in August 15, disappear snakes again into the wild in the region. We cannot find snakes until the following year.
