"Geneva Convention bans Israelis from collective punishment"
Human Rights Watch says Israel’s policy of demolishing the homes of innocent Palestinians is blatantly unlawful and amounts to a war crime.
The international organization lashed out at Israel for deliberately and unlawfully punishing people who haven't committed any wrongdoing. The rights body called on Israel to immediately suspend its policy of demolishing the family homes of Palestinians suspe

The Geneva Conventions are rules that apply in times of armed conflict and seek to protect people who are not or are no longer taking part in hostilities; these include the sick and wounded of armed forces on the field, wounded, sick, and shipwrecked members of armed forces at sea, prisoners of war, and civilians.
This U.S. army training film is about the applicability of Article 3 of Geneva Conventions of 1949 as related to treatment of military and civilian victims of insurgencies.
Law of War: Insurgencies | Treatment of Military and Civilian Victims | Geneva Conventions of 1949
About the Geneva Conventions:
The Geneva Conventions comprise four treaties, and three additional protocols, that establish the standards of international law for the humanitarian treatment of war. The singular term Geneva Convention usually denotes the agreements of 1949, negotiated in the aftermath of the Second World War (1939–45), which updated the terms of the first three treaties (1864, 1906, 1929), and added a fourth treaty. The Geneva Conventions extensively defined the basic, wartime rights of prisoners (civil and military); established protections for the wounded; and established protections for the civilians in and around a war-zone. The treaties of 1949 were ratified, in whole or with reservations, by 196 countries. Moreover, the Geneva Convention also defines the rights and protections afforded to non-combatants, yet, because the Geneva Conventions are about people in war, the articles do not address warfare proper - the use of weapons of war - which is the subject of the Hague Conventions (First Hague Conference, 1899; Second Hague Conference 1907), and the bio-chemical warfare Geneva Protocol (Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare, 1925).
Common Article 3 relating to Non-International Armed Conflict:
This article states that the certain minimum rules of war apply to armed conflicts that are not of an international character, but that are contained within the boundaries of a single country. The applicability of this article rests on the interpretation of the term armed conflict. For example it would apply to conflicts between the Government and rebel forces, or between two rebel forces, or to other conflicts that have all the characteristics of war but that are carried out within the confines of a single country. A handful of individuals attacking a police station would not be considered an armed conflict subject to this article, but only subject to the laws of the country in question.
The other Geneva Conventions are not applicable in this situation but only the provisions contained within Article 3, and additionally within the language of Protocol II. The rationale for the limitation is to avoid conflict with the rights of Sovereign States that were not part of the treaties. When the provisions of this article apply, it states that:
● Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria. To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
- violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
- taking of hostages;
- outrages upon dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment; and
- the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicialguarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
● The wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for.
Enforcement authority:
The final international tribunal for all issues related to the Geneva Conventions and other treaties is the United Nations Security Council. As a charter, the UN Charter is a constituent treaty, and all members are bound by its articles. The UN Charter's Article 25 and others require that obligations to the United Nations prevail over all other treaty obligations. The UNSC rarely invokes its authority regarding the Geneva Conventions and so most issues are resolved by regional treaties or by national law.

There were four conventions, resulting in four treaties, which established humanitarian standards for treatment of people during war times.
The first Geneva Convention met in 1866. The treaty established protection for soldiers removed from combat due to illness or injury. It also protected the facilities and personnel caring for those individuals. The first treaty also established the symbol of the red cross to stand for neutral forces of humanitarian aid.
The Second Geneva Convention met in 1906. The main accomplishment of that treaty was to extend protection of wounded and ill militarymen to those at sea, including victims of shipwreck.
The third Geneva Convention, signed in 1929, was an extensive document that defined prisoners of war and detailed standards for their treatment.
The Fourth Geneva Convention met in 1949. Among other things, this treaty extended protection to civilians and banned the practices of "total war."
There have since been three protocols added on to the original laws founded by the Conventions. Two, added in 1977, establish humanitarian treatment for those involved in international armed conflicts (where war has not been declared) and non-international armed conflicts (such as civil war). The third, added in 2005, marked the red crescent as another symbol to use in place of the red cross (to use in places where the "cross" might be offensive).

Nepal's DPM/Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa speech in Geneva Convention
Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa addressing the inaugural session of the UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva
Nepal UPR kicks off in Geneva, DPM Thapa presents report on human rights situation
Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa gave an opening speech and presented the report on behalf of the Government of Nepal, where the government has stated that the country’s human rights situation has significantly improved since the last UPR which was conducted in 2011.
In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Thapa highlighted the provisions made in Nepal’s new Constitution in recognition of human rights.
He said the fundamental goal of the new government would be to implement the new Constitution by removing the structural and functional obstacles and challenges in the way of socioeconomic transformation of the country.
“The Government has started to take necessary measures to formulate necessary legislative and policy tools needed for the smooth operationalisation of the Constitution,” he added.
It is the second time the UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group is examining Nepal’s human rights situation.
The Nepali delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Thapa would defend Nepal’s position during the review.
The Council is examining human rights record of 14 nations including Nepal during the session till November 13.
Three UN member states – Latvia, Morocco and Qatar – have been chosen as rapporteurs for the review on Nepal.
According to the UN, the review will be based on three documents including a national report prepared by the government; information provided by independent human rights experts and groups; and information provided by stakeholders that include national human rights institutions, regional organisations and civil society groups.
The UPR is a unique process which involves a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 UN member states. Since its first meeting was held in April 2008, all 193 UN member states have been reviewed during the first UPR cycle and 140 thus far during the second cycle.

I CHALLENGE ANYONE WHO THINKS HE CAN COLLECT BOTH MEDALS TO DO SO AND RESPONT TO THIS VIDEO. This is of course is the PS version (apparently only the PAL version) the PC version gives both medals every time without any problems.
Tactics:
This level is bugged, so you can't collect both medals. Just one. It matters in which order you destroy the tents or you won't get even that...
You can start by destroying the nearest and the rightmost with an airstrike. Then the other two. Shoot the topmost last or you wont get the medal.
You should promote the saboteur to commando because its not much use on this level.
I recorded missions of hogs of war, while playing with Mardy Pigs. Wich is basically hard mode. I played the psx (the original) version of the game. With Mardy Pigs its much harder than the pc version because on most of the missions the enemy is one level higher than in normal mode.
I played with the epsxe playstation emulator. And used the pete's opengl2 plugin for graphics.
Read more about playing with the emulator in my profile description.

I played with the epsxe playstation emulator. And used the pete's opengl2 plugin for graphics.
Read more about playing with the emulator in my profile description.

Human Rights Watch says Israel’s policy of demolishing the homes of innocent Palestinians is blatantly unlawful and amounts to a war crime.
The international organization lashed out at Israel for deliberately and unlawfully punishing people who haven't committed any wrongdoing. The rights body called on Israel to immediately suspend its policy of demolishing the family homes of Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks on Israelis. On Thursday, Israeli officials issued demolition orders for the family homes of four Palestinians whom they accuse of committing attacks in Jerusalem al-Quds over the past month.

US air strike on Kunduz hospital ‘an attack on Geneva conventions’
GENEVA: The MSF charity demanded Wednesday the opening of an international fact-finding investigation into a deadly US air strike on a hospital it was running in the Afghan city of Kunduz.
“We cannot rely on an internal military investigation,” Doctors without Borders chief Joanne Liu told reporters, insisting that an “international humanitarian fact-finding commission” should probe the attack.
“This was not just an attack on our hospital, it was an attack on the Geneva Conventions,” Liu said.
“This cannot be tolerated.”
Her comments came after commanding General John Campbell on Tuesday acknowledged that Saturday’s air strike in Kunduz, which killed 22 people, including 12 MSF staff, had been a tragic error.
Such a fact-finding commission called for by MSF is an independent mechanism created under international law, but which has never before been used, the charity said.
It would simply establish the facts and would not determine criminal accountability.
MSF has branded the strikes a war crime, and has pulled out of Kunduz in the aftermath of the attack.
Three investigations have already been opened into the incident, one by the Americans, one by the Afghans and one by NATO. – AFP

-1689 - Battle of Killiecrankie
The Battle of Killiecrankie was fought between Highland Scottish clans supporting King James VII of Scotland (also known as James II of England) and troops supporting King William of Orange on 27 July 1689, during the first Jacobite uprising. Although it was a stunning victory for the Jacobites, it had little overall effect on the outcome of the war and left their leader dead. Their forces were scattered at the Battle of Dunkeld the next month.
The battlefield has been included in the Inventory of Historic Battlefields in Scotland and protected by Historic Scotland under the Scottish Historical Environment Policy of 2009. The battle is remembered in four songs known as The Braes o Killiecrankie, of which the best known was published by James Hogg.
-1713 - Russia & Turkey sign peace treaty
The Treaty of Adrianople (also called the Treaty of Edirne) was signed on 27 June 1713 between the Ottoman Empire and the Tsardom of Russia, confirming the Treaty of the Pruth of 1711 which had ended the Pruth River Campaign.
The Treaty of Pruth, signed by Baltaci Mehmet Pasha, was first received well in Constantinople. But the dissatisfied pro-war party, supported by King Charles XII of Sweden who had taken refuge in the Ottoman Empire since 1709, turned general opinion against Baltaci Mehmet Pasha, who was finally relieved from his office. But Sultan Ahmed III didn't resume the war with Russia.
Finally the Sultan became annoyed by the pro-war party and decided to send the troublesome Swedish King back to his homeland. This removed all obstacles for a final peace settlement with Russia and the Treaty of Adrianople was a peace agreement for the next 25 years.
-1913 - Philippe Thystriple winner of the Tour de France.
On this day Thys won the Tour in 1913 despite breaking his bicycle fork and finding a bicycle shop to mend it. The repair cost him a 10-minute penalty but he won by just under nine minutes. Thys took the stage and the race lead when Eugène Christophe broke his fork on the way to Luchon. Marcel Buysse overtook him in the results the following day. Another broken fork on the way to Nice gave Thys the lead again but drama continued when he fell on the penultimate stage from Longwy to Dunkirk. Despite being knocked out and being penalized for help from teammates to repair his bike, he won 8 minutes and 37 seconds ahead of GustaveGarrigou, with Buysse third.

The Treaty of Pruth, signed by Baltaci Mehmet Pasha, was first received well in Constantinople. “Regardless of them being tried as criminals, they are protected by the Geneva Convention,” Krassimir Yankov, Amnesty International Researcher on Ukraine said of the two Russian Special Forces captured in Ukraine. Yankov spoke to Hromadske along with Tanya Mazur, Director of Amnesty International Ukraine.
Mazur confirmed that an Amnesty Internatonal media representative had visited the soldiers in hospital and the conditions were good. However she could not confirm whether they had been ill treated as she did not have the full picture.
The fact that journalists and the Ukrainian authorities showed the video of the captured soldiers was a violation of their personal dignity under the Geneva Convention, according to Yankov, albeit a “very mild violation”.
A recent Amnesty report published on 22 May,2015 on abuse of prisoners of war in the Ukraine conflict found that the though the majority of those captured on the separatists side are soldiers or volunteer fighters. Conversely the majority captured on the Ukrainian side are civilians or people assisting or supporting, said Yankov.
The report said that most of the abuse happens before those captured are sent to a designated place. On the Ukrainian side this tends to occur when soldiers or civilians are unlawfully detained by volunteer battalions, not under the control of the Ukrainian authorities. However they found 8 cases of Ukrainian soldiers who were executed in captivity.
Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk and Ian Bateson spoke with Tanya Mazur and Krassimir Yankov on May 24, 2015.

Islamabad has said that the non-UN-sanctioned US assassination drone strikes against the country are in "violation of Pakistan's sovereignty."
The United States claims that its airstrikes target militants who cross the border into and out of Afghanistan, but local sources say most of the victims of the attacks have been civilians.
Pakistanis have held many demonstrations to condemn the United States violations of the country's sovereignty.
On January 31, President Barack Obama confirmed that the US uses drones in Pakistan and other countries.
In reply to questions about the use of the assassination drones by his administration in a chat with web users on Google+ and YouTube, the US president said "a lot of these strikes have been in the FATA."
Press TV has conducted an interview with former assistant to the UN secretary-general, Dennis Halliday to further discuss the issue.
The program also offers the opinions of two other guests: Antiwar activist Tighe Barry and retired senior Pakistani Air Force Officer, Sultan M. Hali.
What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Speaking of these illegal attacks Dennis Halliday not only are they illegal but let's look at the aspect of it being collective punishment. Isn't collective punishment illegal according to international law and if that is the case why is there silence from much of the international community?
Halliday: Firstly collective punishment is often associated with the application of sanctions-- sanctions that punish an entire nation state and its people although the punishment may be intended for the sovereign or the dictator or the government in power.
In the case of Pakistan this is a total violation of the sovereignty of Pakistan by the United States which in itself is an extraordinary and continued development. Secondly I've just heard that it's been condemned by the United Nations and I'm very happy to hear that.
Thirdly it's a violation of the [UN] charter and the provision of the charter which prohibit nation states attacking each other in this sort of violence and fourthly it's a violation of the Geneva conventions and protocols which very specifically preclude the killing of civilians.
And I believe we have to assume that the Americans know perfectly well that precision instruments are not predator drones that kill civilians in large numbers whether it's 70 percent or 10 percent, it's grossly unacceptable and I would hope that Washington and the United States would cease the use of drones in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen and everywhere else in addition.
Mr. Halliday under the US administration of Obama, the world has witnessed the expansion of drone strikes now this is actually after the so called warmongering presidency of George W. Bush and now we have the Nobel peace laureate [US President Barack Obama] that has actually expanded these drone strikes to so many places. Why has that happened, especially under this administration?
Halliday: It's an extraordinary situation where the Nobel peace prize winner as you pointed out is now a warmonger and is expanding US aggression into Yemen and Pakistan and elsewhere. To see the sovereignty of Pakistan violations I guess just about every day is just an average.
I would hope that Pakistan would do more about it; would block all access to Afghanistan by NATO forces and the US, but you have not an adviser to Pakistan; they have their own reasons and maybe the Pakistan military is no more careful about human life and civilian life than all the American forces.
But for Mr. Obama to continue this road and to make decisions personally apparently in terms of drone strikes and the use of predator drones designed to kill supposedly their opponents, terrorists whoever they are but inevitably kill civilians is an extraordinary situation and to see the White House intimately involved in this process of assassination and murder to me is deeply offensive and total violation of international law, the UN charter and as I said before the Geneva conventions which protect civilians from acts of warfare.
If there is no pressure by the United Nations on the United States, you just said you've heard that they have condemned the usage but will that condemnation actually turn into any type of pressure to force the hand of the United States?

"This is a training film which shows case studies of how one would escape if one were taken captive as a prisoner of war."
US Army Training Film TF21-1973
Public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_war
A prisoner of war (POW, PoW, PW, P/W, WP, PsW, enemy prisoner of war (EPW) or "missing-captured") is a person, whether combatant or non-combatant, who is held in custody by a belligerent power during or immediately after an armed conflict. The earliest recorded usage of the phrase is dated 1660.
Belligerents hold captured combatants and non-combatants of hostile powers in custody for a range of legitimate and illegitimate reasons. Prisoners of war are held to isolate them from enemy combatants still in the field, to release and repatriate them in an orderly manner after hostilities, to demonstrate military victory, to punish them, to prosecute them for war crimes, to exploit them for their labor, to recruit or even conscript them as their own combatants, to collect military and political intelligence from them, and to indoctrinate them in new political or religious beliefs...
The 1648 Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years' War, established the rule that prisoners of war should be released without ransom at the end of hostilities and that they should be allowed to return to their homelands.[15]
Union Army soldier on his release from Andersonville prison in May 1865.
There also evolved the right of parole, French for "discourse", in which a captured officer surrendered his sword and gave his word as a gentleman in exchange for privileges. If he swore not to escape, he could gain better accommodations and the freedom of the prison. If he swore to cease hostilities against the nation who held him captive, he could be repatriated or exchanged but could not serve against his former captors in a military capacity...
Hague and Geneva Conventions
Specifically, Chapter II of the Annex to the 1907 Hague Convention IV – The Laws and Customs of War on Land covered the treatment of prisoners of war in detail. These provisions were further expanded in the 1929 Geneva Convention on the Prisoners of War and were largely revised in the Third Geneva Convention in 1949.
Article 4 of the Third Geneva Convention protects captured military personnel, some guerrilla fighters, and certain civilians. It applies from the moment a prisoner is captured until he or she is released or repatriated. One of the main provisions of the convention makes it illegal to torture prisoners and states that a prisoner can only be required to give their name, date of birth, rank and service number (if applicable).
The ICRC has a special role to play, with regards to international humanitarian law, in restoring and maintaining family contact in times of war, in particular concerning the right of prisoners of war and internees to send and receive letters and cards (Geneva Convention (GC) III, art.71 and GC IV, art.107).
However, nations vary in their dedication to following these laws, and historically the treatment of POWs has varied greatly. During the 20th century, Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany (towards Russian POWs and Western Allied commandos) were notorious for atrocities against prisoners of war during World War II. The German military used the Soviet Union's refusal to sign the Geneva Convention as a reason for not providing the necessities of life to Russian POWs; and the Soviets similarly killed Axis prisoners or used them as slave labor. North Korean and North and South Vietnamese forces routinely killed or mistreated prisoners taken during those conflicts...
