Margaret Brooke Sullavan (May 16, 1909 – January 1, 1960) was an American stage and film actress.
Sullavan began her career onstage in 1929. In 1933 she caught the attention of movie director John M. Stahl and had her debut on the screen that same year in Only Yesterday. Sullavan preferred working on the stage and made only 16 movies, four of which were opposite James Stewart in a popular partnership. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Three Comrades (1938). She retired from the screen in the early forties, but returned in 1950 to make her last movie, No Sad Songs for Me, in which she played a woman who was dying of cancer. For the rest of her career she would only appear on the stage.
Sullavan experienced increasing hearing problems, depression, and mental frailty in the 1950s. She died of an overdose of barbiturates, which was ruled accidental, on January 1, 1960 at the age of 50.
Sullavan was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of a wealthy stockbroker, Cornelius Sullavan, and his wife, Garland Brooke. The first years of her childhood were spent isolated from other children. She suffered from a painful muscular weakness in the legs that prevented her from walking, so that she was unable to socialize with other children until the age of six. After her recovery she emerged as an adventurous and tomboyish child who preferred playing with the children from the poorer neighborhood, much to the disapproval of her class-conscious parents.
Margaret is a female first name, derived via French (Marguerite) and Latin (Margarita) from Greek Margarites, derived from the noun margaron meaning 'pearl'. The Greek is probably related to the Sanskrit मञ्जरी mañjarī meaning 'pearl' or 'cluster of blossoms.'
Margaret has been an English name since the 11th century, and remained popular throughout the Middle Ages. It became less popular between the 16th century and 18th century, but became more common again after this period, becoming the second most popular name in the United States in 1903. Since this time, it has become less common, but was still the ninth most common name for women of all ages in the United States as of the 1990 census.
Margaret has a large number of diminutive forms in many different languages.
Alternate forms of Margaret, including short forms and pet names, include:
December 18 is the 352nd day of the year (353rd in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 13 days remaining until the end of the year.
James Maitland "Jimmy" Stewart (May 20, 1908 – July 2, 1997) was an American actor, known for his distinctive drawl and down-to-earth persona. He starred in many films that are considered to be classics, and is known for portraying an American middle-class man struggling with a crisis.
Stewart was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one in competition for The Philadelphia Story (1940) and receiving one Lifetime Achievement award. Stewart was named the third greatest male screen legend of the Golden Age Hollywood by the American Film Institute. He was a major Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract star. He also had a noted military career and was a World War II and Vietnam War veteran, who rose to the rank of brigadier general in the United States Air Force Reserve.
Stewart was born on May 20, 1908, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, the son of Elizabeth Ruth Jackson (1875–1953) and Alexander Maitland Stewart (1871–1961), who owned a hardware store. He had Irish and Scottish ancestry, and was raised as a Presbyterian. He was descended from veterans of the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the American Civil War. The eldest of three children (he had two younger sisters, Virginia and Mary), he was expected to continue his father's business, which had been in the family for three generations. His mother was an excellent pianist but his father discouraged Stewart's request for lessons. When his father accepted a gift of an accordion from a guest, young Stewart quickly learned to play the instrument, which became a fixture offstage during his acting career. As the family grew, music continued to be an important part of family life.

Genres: Drama,Margaret Sullavan showing her talent for comedy in the films "The Good Fairy", "The Shopworn Angel", "The Shop Around the Corner" and "Back Street". Although Back Street isn't a comedy, I just had to add this scene: "Be sure and call for me if there's a full moon at twelve o' clock...NOON!" Haha, I just love how she delivers that line! I'm sorry that the volume of the different clips differ so much, but so does the quality of the film material and unfortunately I can't fix this. No copyright infringement intended.

World War I is over, let the living begin. So three German soldiers open a repair ship and get on with their lives. Erich (Robert Taylor) finds unexpected love with frail Patricia (Margaret Sullavan), Gottfried (Robert Young) falls in with a verboten anti-nationalist group, Otto (Franchot Tone) approaches each day with worldly cynicism. And through all thats to come, the men know they will remain Three Comrades. This lyrical adaptation of Erich Maria Remarques novel is one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's rare screenwriting credits. Melodrama virtuoso Frank Borzage (Seventh Heaven) directs. And as Patricia, Sullavan remains the films luminous soul, its cherished fourth comrade.
I do not own the rights of this movie and I only post this scene for educational reasons.

A tribute to Margaret Brooke Sullavan Hancock. I feel she doesn't get nearly enough credit for all of her wonderful works! She had such a tragic end, but She is without a doubt a legend.
After fleeting marriages to Henry Fonda and William Wyler, Margaret Sullavan found contentment as the wife of producer Leland Hayward (Jason Robards) and as the mother of three. Or so it seemed, until the marriage crumbled, the children rebelled and she was found dead of an overdose at the age of 50. Best Actress Emmy® nominee Lee Remick portrays Sullavan, the luminous beauty who turned her talent and intelligence into stardom on stage and screen (including the beloved Three Comrades and The Shop Around the Corner). Based on the bestseller by Sullavan’s daughter Brooke and produced by her son Bill, Haywire powerfully shows how a burnished image of privilege and fame can hide – at least for a time – the reality of heartbreak and self-destruction.

This tribute was made in less than a day, I just got the inspiration and made it, after hearing the song. Margaret Sullavan, a southern belle and Randolph Scott, her beloved fighting for their love during the Civil War and finally find each other in the end. I really loved this movie and it was kind of precedent to "Gone WIth The Wind". King Vidor is good as always in directing this sadly quite forgotten treasure. The song is "Red Rose" by Yaroslav Yevdokimov. I hope you enjoy this video! No copyright infringement intended!
