The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was the over-land air arm of the British military during most of the First World War. During the early part of the war, the RFC's responsibilities were centred on support of the British Army, via artillery co-operation and photographic reconnaissance. This work gradually led RFC pilots into aerial battles with German pilots and later in the war included the strafing of enemy infantry and emplacements, the bombing of German military airfields and later the strategic bombing of German industrial and transportation facilities.

At the start of World War I the RFC, commanded by Brigadier-General Sir David Henderson, consisted of five squadrons – one observation balloon squadron (RFC No 1 Squadron) and four aeroplane squadrons (RFC No 2 and No 3 Squadrons were the first fixed-wing flying squadrons in the world). These were first used for aerial spotting on 13 September 1914, but only became efficient when they perfected the use of wireless communication at Aubers Ridge on 9 May 1915. Aerial photography was attempted during 1914, but again only became effective the next year. By 1918, photographic images could be taken from 15,000 feet, and interpreted by over 3,000 personnel. Parachutes were not available to pilots of the RFC's heavier-than-air craft – nor were they used by the RAF during the First World War – although the Calthrop Guardian Angel parachute (1916 model) was officially adopted just as the war ended. By this time parachutes had been used by balloonists for three years.

Flying Corps is a 1996 World War I flight simulator developed by Rowan Software and published by Empire Interactive. It was one of the most popular flight simulators of its time due to its accurate flight models and graphics, and also the novelty factor of a First World War dog fight simulator. Flying Corps is one of the few flight simulators to have dealt with the First World War - Red Baron, Knights of the Sky and the more arcade-oriented Wings have attempted to do the same, but most companies focus on modern air combat and World War II (usually the Battle of Britain).

The game is split in four campaigns: The Flying Circus (1917), Battle of Cambrai 1917, Spring Offensive (1918) and Hat In The Ring (1918). Several airplanes are available, including the Sopwith Camel, the Nieuport 28 and the Fokker Dr.I.

It was reshipped in 1997 with 3dfx support and a few extras in a package named Flying Corps Gold.

Tim Woodward (born 24 April 1953) is a British actor.

Woodward was born in London, England, the son of actors Edward Woodward and Venetia Mary Barrett.

He is probably best known for his starring roles in the 1970s BBC drama Wings, as Squadron Leader Rex in Piece of Cake (1988), the 1990s ITV soap opera Families and the 2000s ITV police drama Murder City. He also portrayed Leonard "Nipper" Read of Scotland Yard in the 2008 ITV adaptation of Jake Arnott's crime novel He Kills Coppers. He starred in the 1988 mini-series Piece of Cake as the wealthy, eccentric and by-the-book Squadron Leader Rex. He also guest starred with his father Edward and son Sam as a London gangster family in a special storyline for The Bill in 2008. He is the brother of actors Peter Woodward and Sarah Woodward.
