Teotihuacan – also written Teotihuacán, with a Spanish orthographic accent on the last syllable – is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico, just 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Mexico City, containing some of the largest pyramidal structures built in the pre-ColumbianAmericas. Apart from the pyramidal structures, Teotihuacan is also known for its large residential complexes, the Avenue of the Dead, and numerous colorful, well-preserved murals. Additionally, Teotihuacan produced a thin orange pottery style that spread through Mesoamerica.
The city is thought to have been established around 100 BC and continued to be built until about 250 AD. The city may have lasted until sometime between the 7th and 8th centuries AD. At its zenith, perhaps in the first half of the 1st millennium AD, Teotihuacan was the largest city in the pre-Columbian Americas, with a population of perhaps 125,000 or more, placing it among the largest cities of the world in this period. Teotihuacan began as a new religious center in the Mexican Highland around the first century AD. This city came to be the largest and most populated center in the New World. Teotihuacan was even home to multi-floor apartment compounds built to accommodate this large population. The civilization and cultural complex associated with the site is also referred to as Teotihuacan or Teotihuacano.
Juan Villoro (Mexico City, 1956) is a Mexican writer and journalist. He has been well known among intellectual circles in Mexico, Latin America and Spain for years, but his success among the readers grew since receiving the Herralde Prize for his novel El testigo.
For three decades, Villoro has produced a steady output of articles for various Mexican periodicals, concentrating in such areas as sports, rock, cinema, literature and travel. Palmeras de la brisa rapida: un viaje a Yucatán ("Palm Trees of the Rapid Breeze: A Journey to Yucatan") 1989 is an account of his travels in a part of Mexico known for its Mayan culture. His first novel was El disparo de argón ("The Shot of Argon"), published in 1991. Los once de la tribu ("The Eleven of the Tribe"), published in 1995, collects many of his best short, non-fiction essays and interviews. The title refers to the number of people on an international football team. He covers a wide range of topics, including Andy Warhol, the Rolling Stones, the television series Dallas, the absurdities of publishing children's literature in the United States and an interview with Jane Fonda.
It was massive, one of the first great cities of the Western Hemisphere. And its origins are a mystery.

Liquid Mercury Found in Mexican Pyramid Could Hold Secrets of Teotihuacan
Archaeologists may be a step closer to discovering the secrets of the ancient city of Teotihuacan: They have unearthed liquid mercury deep beneath the Mexican Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent. The “large quantities” of the toxic liquid metal leads researchers to believe that an undiscovered ancient ritual chamber or even the tomb of a king could rest below the ruins of the ancient city that sits about 30 miles from Mexico City, reports Reuters.Read Full Story:http://www.cosmostv.org/2015/04/liquid-mercury-found-in-mexican-pyramid.html

It was built by hand more than a thousand years before the swooping arrival of the Nahuatl-speaking Aztec in central Mexico. But it was the Aztec, descending on the abandoned site, no doubt falling awestruck by what they saw, who gave it a name: Teotihuacan.
A famed archaeological site located fewer than 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Mexico City, Teotihuacan reached its zenith between 100 B.C. and A.D. 650. It covered 8 square miles (21 square kilometers) and supported a population of a hundred thousand, according to George Cowgill, an archaeologist at Arizona State University and a National Geographic Society grantee.
"It was the largest city anywhere in the Western Hemisphere before the 1400s," Cowgill says. "It had thousands of residential compounds and scores of pyramid-temples and was comparable to the largest pyramids of Egypt."
Oddly, Teotihuacan, which contains a massive central road (the Street of the Dead) and buildings including the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, has no military structures—though experts say the military and cultural wake of Teotihuacan was heavily felt throughout the region

Today's episode Ruben Alonso takes us to the State of Mexico, where we’ll visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan.
Air ballooning is one of those activities that every traveler has to do at least once in their life, and it’s my first time air ballooning here in Mexico.
Teotihuacán is a Nahuatl word that meaning "The place where men become Gods" and was one of the largest pre-Hispanic cities in Mesoamérica. At its peak it reached 200,000 inhabitants. The first settlers are said to arrived in Teotihuacan about 20,000 years ago. But what stands out most about this place are the two pyramids - the Pyramid of the Moon at 45 meters high and the Pyramid of the Sun at 65 meters high.

Sixto Paz cazando Ovnis

The huge ancient site in Mexico called Teotihuacan, the "Birthplace of the Gods" or "Where Men Became Gods" in the Aztec Nahuatl language was supposedly built by the Toltec people about 100 AD. However, it is possible that at least aspects of this site are far older. Come and explore with us.

Travel video about destination Teotihuacan in Mexico.
The ruins of the ancient Mexican capital, Teotihuacan, remain a mystery to scientists to the present day. Little is known about the former historic rise and fall of this first major city on the American continent. During its heyday, Teotihuacan extended over an area of more than 20 square kilometres and ruled over a city-state that was larger than that of Ancient Rome.
It is believed that the origins of this impressive city date back as far as the 2nd century BC.
Four large platforms surround the Citadel, the administrative centre of the city. On the opposite side is the magnificent and

Mexico City is a vivid metropolis and cosmopolitan city situated on a plateau in the central highlands at an altitude of 2, 286 metres, where the food is spicy and the Tequila flows freely! The city's fascinating history is reflected in both its art and architecture with age old charm, Indian roots and elegant buildings.
Until the Spanish conquest, the Templo Mayor was the setting of coronations and human sacrifice. The remains of the walls within which thousands of priests once lived are only a few steps from the buildings of the country's former Spanish conquerors.

On the opposite side is the magnificent and impressive Quetzalcoatl Temple, which is adorned with several reliefs.
The huge towering The Pyramid of the Sun is one of the main landmarks. Overawed by the magnificent structure, the Aztecs described it as, 'The place where one becomes god' - and it is indeed a magnificent and fascinating sight to behold.

Travel video about destination Mexico City in Mexico.
Construction of the country's largest cathedral, the Catedral Metropolitana, took 250 years. The lower section is quite plain but the upper section is of Baroque and Neo-Classical design. Spanish administrative buildings and private houses in the heart of the city have replaced the temples of ancient Mexico and has resulted in a synthesis of both old and new architectural styles.
An elevator ascends the Torre Latino America, an earthquake-proof tower that was built in 1958. A viewing platform provides a wonderful panoramic view that includes the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Juárez Monument.
Located 50 kilometres from Mexico City are the ancient remains of Teotihuacan that was once a centre of trade, art and ritual ceremonies. At its zenith in 500 A.D., it was as large as Rome and its Sun Pyramid is one of the greatest building achievements of ancient times. In 1988 ,Unesco attributed this complex as being 'one of the most important cultural centres of mankind'.
The author Pablo Neruda once said: 'No other land on Earth possesses such remarkable human profoundness than Mexico and its inhabitants'. For surprises, sights and history galore, Mexico has to be at the top of the list!

Myths, secrets and mystery surround the archaeological sites of the Maya and Inca in both Middle and South America. The city of Teotihuacán is no exception. The founding of this ancient and historically important city probably dates back to the second or third century A.D. when construction of the mighty Sun Pyramid crowned by a temple, was completed. The rain god, Tlaloc, and the Feathered Snake, Quetzalcoatl, were the major deities in the flourishing ancient city in some parts of which the magnificent decoration of various sanctuaries, including beautiful reliefs has been preserved to the present day.In Chichén Itzá the association between the beautifully decorated ancient monuments and temples and their function as a place of human sacrifice is more than evident. Heavy stone tables and human-shaped sacrificial altars such as the Chac Mool create a rather disturbing and mysterious ambience and even today little is known of the true nature of the horrifying rituals that once took place there. Despite its rather modest size the magnificent location of Tulum, located in the northern part of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean coast, is still one of the most popular and well-known Maya sites in the world. Tulum was once entirely surrounded by a massive defensive wall with towers and battlements and in the 14th century the small port developed into one of the most important trading centres in the region. The desolate and extensive desert in Southern Peru hides one of the most spectacular secrets of Nazca culture, the legendary and mysterious geoglyphs engraved on the surface of the desert. There are illustrations of various animals that measure a hundred metres and further images that extend for several kilometres. The precision and huge dimensions of these lines is simply breathtaking. For some time it was believed that they could only be discerned from the sky but the truth is that they can be seen from the neighbouring hills. Perhaps at some time in the future and with the help of more archaeological discoveries there will be further revelations with regard to the mysteries of the Inca people. However, in this region, each discovery leads to a new mystery!

Keiser Report: If It Bleeds, It Leads (E711)
In this episode of the Keiser Report from Mexico City, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss the significance of Teotihuacan to the modern era of semi-divine elite hoarding wealth during a time of financial crop failures and lending droughts. In the second half, Max interviews media, retail and banking tycoon, Ricardo Salinas Pliego about ending prohibition, a buffet of ideas at the Festival of Ideas and the news business mantra of “if it bleeds, it leads” leading to the bad PR of Mexico. Finally, Max puts him in the ‘shark tank’ to pitch Mexico to China which has $250 billion to spend in the region.

It was massive, one of the first great cities of the Western Hemisphere. And its origins are a mystery.
Teotihuacan City of the Gods - Top Documentary

Teotihuacan, Mexico

Sixto Paz cazando Ovnis

Travel video about destination Teotihuacan in Mexico.
The ruins of the ancient Mexican capital, Teotihuacan, remain a mystery to scientists to the present day. Little is known about the former historic rise and fall of this first major city on the American continent. During its heyday, Teotihuacan extended over an area of more than 20 square kilometres and ruled over a city-state that was larger than that of Ancient Rome.
It is believed that the origins of this impressive city date back as far as the 2nd century BC.
Four large platforms surround the Citadel, the administrative centre of the city.

Teotihuacan HD 1080
