Erma Vernice Franklin (March 13, 1938 – September 7, 2002) was an American gospel and R&B singer. She was the elder sister of Aretha Franklin.
Franklin's best known recording was the original version of "Piece of My Heart", written and produced by Bert Berns, and recorded in 1967, for which she was nominated for a Grammy Award. The better-known cover version of the same song was recorded the following year by Big Brother and the Holding Company, with the lead vocal by Janis Joplin.
Erma Franklin was born in Shelby, Mississippi, the oldest daughter of Barbara (née Siggers) and the Reverend C. L. Franklin. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where her father was pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church. She was raised by both parents until the age of ten when her parents separated for the final time. Her mother took her eldest sibling, half-brother Vaughn, with her to Buffalo, New York, in 1948. Barbara Siggers-Franklin died four years later on March 7, 1952, in Buffalo, New York.

I was amazed and delighted that we got someone as prestigious and legendary as Erma Franklin to participate in The Strange World Of Northern Soul, performing her much rarer version of this monster Jackie Wilson Northern Soul crossover classic. Erma was born in Shelby, Mississippi in 1939. When she was six, they moved to Detroit, where her father became the minister of New Bethel Baptist Church. After High School, Erma toured the country for two years in her father's gospel group. Continuing with her studies, Erma met up with a young Berry Gordy, who as we know today would form the legendary Motown label. Erma recalled how they went to Chicago to do some things with Chess "and we hardly had two bits between us." At Chess, they met up with producer Billy Davis but nothing came of it except b...

The Electric Flag Featuring Erma Franklin Carousel Ballroom, San Francisco; April 21, 1968. Very good to excellent stereo soundboard. This is one of those seminal recordings. Erma Franklin is sister to the well-known Aretha. Erma’s career for Shout! Records resulted in several single releases in 1967 including Big Boss Man and her take of Piece Of My Heart, which Janis Joplin defined as her stomping ground. This recording was made when Erma took the stage at the Carousel Ballroom in San Francisco for three nights in April from 19 to 21, 1968. Backing her was Mike Bloomfield’s Electric Flag, a blues rock group. 00:00 Uptight (Everything’s Alright) 3:49 03:49 Day Tripper 3:13 07:01 Driving Wheel 7:45 14:46 The Theme 16:12 30:58 Goin’ Down Slow 2:24 33:22 Instrumental Jam 8:36 (Erma...

"Standing Hampton" is Sammy Hagar's sixth solo studio album (ninth overall), his first after moving from Capitol Records to Geffen. It was his first album to achieve RIAA certification, eventually going platinum, and five of its singles charted in either the mainstream rock or pop singles charts. The British version of the album was released with a bonus interview 45rpm called Conversations with Sammy Hagar. Hagar has said that he was originally going to call this album "One Way To Rock". It was a British fan who told him of the term that came to be the title. In Cockney rhyming slang, a "Hampton" is a term for a penis. One that is "Standing", of course, would be a reference to an erection. This led to the cover art that shows a gentleman greeting a woman in various states of undress. The...

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
