This third rail 850V DC line with a maximum grade of 6% was built from Villefranche de Conflent to Mont Louis between 1903 & 1910. An extension to Latour de Carol was completed in 1927. The train climbs about 4000 feet in altitude along the Tet River valley on a narrow ledge often supported by large rock walls. Many tributaries to the Tet are crossed by stone viaducts and there are numerous tunnels. There are two very large bridges over the Tet - one a suspension bridge and the other a stone viaduct. From Font-Romeu the line drops over 1000 feet through a number of hairpin bends to an alpine plateau and then runs close to the Spanish border. At Latour de Carol we see meter, standard and Iberian gauge trains.
The second car of our train was fitted with track geometry measuring equipment and it is reported that four days after our trip on 17 September 2014, the line was closed for at least six weeks. It had been scheduled to close between 29 September and 5 December.
The first part of the journey was in the leading power car but at Bourg-Madame I changed to the open air car (fifth car in the train)

Trayecto entre LaTour de Carol - Enveig y Puigcerdà con bloqueo telefónico.
Este es el recorrido de conexión internacional entre España y Francia. Puede apreciarse el punto en que se cambia de país por el cambio de estado de la vía: con el balasto mas claro estamos en España; cuando oscurece y se escucha mas el chucuchucu del tren, a causa de las traviesas de madera, estamos en el lado francés.
Hasta ahora sólo hacen este recorrido las unidades serie 447, en este caso vamos con una en composición sencilla el dia 7 de Enero de 2011. Un día invernal con los Pirineos nevados de fondo.
PD: al principio intento grabar, desde el espejo retrovisor, al jefe de circulación francés dando la orden de Marche el Tren con las señales y reglamentaciones francesas, que no se llegan a distinguir bien.

A journey from Toulouse to Barcelona via l'Hospitalet & Latour de Carol, the slow and scenic route across the Pyrenees.
I took the Intercité de Nuit overnight couchette train overnight from Paris to Toulouse (see my Intercité de Nuit video), then I took the 08:48 TER local train from Toulouse to Latour de Carol arriving around 11:50. After an hour or two between trains, I took the 13:47 Spanish local train from Latour de Carol to Barcelona, arriving around 16:40.
It's more time-effective to use the direct InterCité de Nuit train from Paris to Latour de Carol - in the video, this train is seen stabled in the platform at Latour. The best scenery starts at Foix, which the night train reaches around 06:00, so in Summer it'll be light. However, I used the Paris-Toulouse night train then the Toulouse-Latour TER as I was travelling in December and wanted to see the whole Toulouse-Latour de Carol route in daylight.

Troisième partie des voyages à bord de ce train de nuit Frontière espagnole - Paris 3730.
Cette partie est consacrée au voyage entre Latour-de-Carol et Toulouse. Latour-de-Carol est une village située à la frontière espagnole dans le département des Pyrénées Orientales (66) en région Languedoc-Roussillon. La gare elle même est située à Enveitg, mais les deux noms sont réunis dans celui de la gare. Cette gare voit moins de passages que Cerbère, mais reste quand même une alternative pour les toulousains revenant de Barcelone. Contrairement au 3730/31, ce train ne sera pas supprimé lors des réformes des TET dû au fait qu'il est le seul train qui est direct à Andorre-L'Hospitalet, village de passage pour les personnes allant en Andorre.
Vous allez voir une scène magnifique jusqu'à Mérens-les-Vals, où malheureusement, la nuit est tombée.

This third rail 850V DC line with a maximum grade of 6% was built from Villefranche de Conflent to Mont Louis between 1903 & 1910. An extension to Latour de Carol was completed in 1927. The train climbs about 4000 feet in altitude along the Tet River valley on a narrow ledge often supported by large rock walls. Many tributaries to the Tet are crossed by stone viaducts and there are numerous tunnels. There are two very large bridges over the Tet - one a suspension bridge and the other a stone viaduct. From Font-Romeu the line drops over 1000 feet through a number of hairpin bends to an alpine plateau and then runs close to the Spanish border. At Latour de Carol we see meter, standard and Iberian gauge trains.
The second car of our train was fitted with track geometry measuring equipment and it is reported that four days after our trip on 17 September 2014, the line was closed for at least six weeks. It had been scheduled to close between 29 September and 5 December.
The first part of the journey was in the leading power car but at Bourg-Madame I changed to the open air car (fifth car in the train)

Este es el recorrido de conexión internacional entre España y Francia. Puede apreciarse el punto en que se cambia de país por el cambio de estado de la vía: con el balasto mas claro estamos en España; cuando oscurece y se escucha mas el chucuchucu del tren, a causa de las traviesas de madera, estamos en el lado francés.
Hasta ahora sólo hacen este recorrido las unidades serie 447, en este caso vamos con una en composición sencilla el dia 7 de Enero de 2011. Un día invernal con los Pirineos nevados de fondo.

A journey from Toulouse to Barcelona via l'Hospitalet & Latour de Carol, the slow and scenic route across the Pyrenees.
I took the Intercité de Nuit overnight couchette train overnight from Paris to Toulouse (see my Intercité de Nuit video), then I took the 08:48 TER local train from Toulouse to Latour de Carol arriving around 11:50. After an hour or two between trains, I took the 13:47 Spanish local train from Latour de Carol to Barcelona, arriving around 16:40.
It's more time-effective to use the direct InterCité de Nuit train from Paris to Latour de Carol - in the video, this train is seen stabled in the platform at Latour. The best scenery starts at Foix, which the night train reaches around 06:00, so in Summer it'll be light. However, I used the Paris-Toulouse night train then the Toulouse-Latour TER as I was travelling in December and wanted to see the whole Toulouse-Latour de Carol route in daylight.

Cette partie est consacrée au voyage entre Latour-de-Carol et Toulouse. Latour-de-Carol est une village située à la frontière espagnole dans le département des Pyrénées Orientales (66) en région Languedoc-Roussillon. La gare elle même est située à Enveitg, mais les deux noms sont réunis dans celui de la gare. Cette gare voit moins de passages que Cerbère, mais reste quand même une alternative pour les toulousains revenant de Barcelone. Contrairement au 3730/31, ce train ne sera pas supprimé lors des réformes des TET dû au fait qu'il est le seul train qui est direct à Andorre-L'Hospitalet, village de passage pour les personnes allant en Andorre.
Vous allez voir une scène magnifique jusqu'à Mérens-les-Vals, où malheureusement, la nuit est tombée.
