After the irresponsible treatment of Kalki Avatar Foundation members in Nepal, His Holiness Younus AlGohar advises the Nepali government on how to rectify the situation.
Due to poor police work, the Nepali authorities had arrested our members on the basis of completely unfounded accusations - they alleged, due to a 'tip' they had received, that Kalki Avatar Foundation was a terrorist organisation. Media hype also gave the impression to the common public that our organisation was planning to carry out an attack on Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. When these allegations proved false, the government was left with no exit strategy.

Singha Durbar is a 13-episode television drama series portraying collaborative leadership and good governance. The show tells the story of the inner-workings of the seemingly impenetrable central government of Nepal, humanizing the country’s politicians and creating role models for an inclusive, transparent and collaborative leadership style. Singha Durbar TV series is using the power of drama to create in its audience a sense of possibility that their government leaders could serve the whole country rather than their narrow political interests.

Travel video about destination Nepal.
At the foot of the huge peaks of the Himalayas is Pokhara and it is from here that we begin our journey through Nepal. In the past, Pokhara was an important trading link between India and Tibet but the trading of salt and wool came to an end after Tibet closed its doors to the outside world.Kathmandu is a melting pot of both race and religion, a metropolis in the heart of the Kingdom of Nepal, a country of snow-covered mountains inhabited by the gods. Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess, Kumari, who is duly selected from childhood. She is not allowed to leave until puberty as her task is it affirm the king his power. Traditional ceremonies are celebrated throughout the year such as the Festival Of The Children that is a symbol of fertility and sexual purity. Patan is Nepal’s second largest city and has retained much of its original character due to its three hundred monasteries and temples. It is also one of the oldest settlements in Kathmandu Valley and during the 15th century was the capital of one of three kingdoms. Bhaktapur is the third ancient regal city of the thirty kilometre long Kathmandu Valley that has always been a prosperous trading route between China, Tibet and India. Through the golden gate of Sundhoka is the old royal palace complex. The Torana above the gate is richly gilded and features the ten-armed goddess, Taleju, and her loyal guards. Located on a 1,400 metre high hill, Swayanbunath is a Buddhist monastery complex and one of the most interesting sights in Nepal. The country’s oldest stupa dates back to the 5th century and is entered from an easterly direction up a staircase that contains three hundred and sixty-five steps. Endless rows of prayer mills and religious images are the instruments of the people’s deep faith. Hidden in a canyon and located on top of a mountain creek, Dakshinkali stands guard over the valley. This wonderful place is dedicated to the bloody goddess, Kali. The customs of the people in the ‘Kingdom On The Roof Of The World’ may seem somewhat strange. But this land of jungle and eternal snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs. Like magic!

Like magic!

Travel video about destination Nepal.
At the foot of the huge peaks of the Himalayas is Pokhara and it is from here that we begin our journey through Nepal. At one time this high valley contained seven fresh water lakes named Pokhari and they gave this holiday paradise its present day name. In the past, Pokhara was an important trading link between India and Tibet but the trading of salt and wool came to an end after Tibet closed its doors to the outside world. Its population is extremely tolerant and both the Buddhist and Hindu faiths coexist side by side.A safari by elephant is a real adventure as the mahuts skilfully lead the ambling giants through the bush. Travelling through the jungle on the back of an elephant offers good protection from rhinoceroses and other predators.Kathmandu is a melting pot of both race and religion, a metropolis in the heart of the Kingdom of Nepal. In the centre of the city is the ancient palace of Hanuman Dhoka. More than seven hundred thousand people live in the metropolis of Earth’s most ancient kingdom. It was only a few decades ago that ancient Nepal opened up its borders. Until then, due to the command of the ruling Gurkha Dynasty, the ‘Home of the Divine’ was totally isolated.Patan is Nepal’s second largest city and has retained much of its original character due to its three hundred monasteries and temples. It is also one of the oldest settlements in Kathmandu Valley and during the 15th century was the capital of one of three kingdoms. Two huge lions guard the entrance of the former royal palace that originated from a monastery complex. Bhaktapur is the third ancient regal city of the thirty kilometre long Kathmandu Valley that has always been a prosperous trading route between China, Tibet and India. Our journey through this fairytale land ends at the foot of the mighty Himalayas amidst a wonderful world in which the gods are still very much alive!

Kathmandu is the largest city and capital of Nepal and the namesake of the Kathmandu Valley. Once thought to be the fabled and inaccessible Shangri-La, Kathmandu is now a hub for independent travellers as well as a growing vacation spot catering to all budgets. As a result of considerable urban growth in recent decades, it is now part of one continuous urban area together with Patan to the south.
See in Kathmandu, Nepal
=============
Swayambhu (स्वयम्भू) aka Monkey Temple - A site on a hill overlooking the city with a large stupa and other Buddhist and Hindu iconography. One of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country. There are 350 steps to the top - the back route is less steep but the views on the way up are not as nice. Aside from the views over the city and the ancient carvings in every available space, it's crowded with monkeys mingling with the visitors. The base of the hill is a 30 minute walk from Thamel (make sure you have a map as there are several confusing intersections along the way), or take a taxi or rickshaw. As with the Boudha Stupa, are plenty of Buddhist and Tibetan-inspired trinkets for sale. There are also drinks for sale at the top, and at least one small restaurant selling momos. For those that have their own transport or have difficulty climbing stairs there is a parking lot at the back entrance that significantly reduces the number of stairs that need to be climbed to gain access to the main compound. This is one of seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. Foreigners: NPR750 for a multiple entry pass. NPR200 for single entry
Boudha Stupa in Boudha (बौद्ध). One of the most sacred sites for Tibetan Buddhism. This huge stupa is one of the largest in the world. It is located to the north-east of Dwarikas' Hotel and just to the north of the airport area. This is another World Heritage Site.
Narayanhiti Palace Museum - This is the former Royal palace which was turned partly into a Museum and partly into the Foreign Ministry after the abolition of the monarchy in 2009. Now you can visit the splendid Halls of the main building of the palace. Giant fruit bats hanging from the tall trees and 20 foot-tall bamboo around the otherwise modern (and still well secured) former palace are a sight, especially around sunset when the bats depart en masse. Foreigners: NPR500
Thamel Chowk - a tourist neighborhood with many restaurants and shops.
Freak Street - Historic street where western hippies seeking enlightenment would stay. Now just a few restaurants and hotels.
Pashupatinath - An important Hindu temple to Shiva in the form of Lord of Animals. See monkeys, cremation, sadhus and meditation caves. Morning or sunset are great times to go. 1000 Rupess for foreigners, though you can sneak in through the park at the North side of the temple, as many locals do (beware of police though, who try to catch people doing exactly this). No entry inside the main temple for foreigners, though you can peer inside from the doorway. Also, there are stairs on the East side of the river leading to the Boudha Stupa (a short walk away).
Garden of Dreams / Kaiser Mahal [2] - Relax in this beautiful and peaceful walled garden close to Thamel and the former Royal Palace. Beautifully renovated in partnership with Austrian government. Currently has two pavilions depicting two of the six annual seasons in the Hindu calendar. It has several expensive cafes and a bar. Nice toilets. NPR200.

Kathmandu Nepal Travel Guide - Dharahara (Bhimsen Tower) is one of the historical place of Nepal. It is elder than Eiffel tower of France & Statue of Liberty, exceptionally incredible as no iron or metal has been used to make this tower. The purpose of making this tower is to gather all people at Tudikhel ( a huge ground in norther face of Dharahara) for announcements. It is made by first prime minister of Nepal, Bhimsen Thapa, that is why it is often called Bhimsen tower, but it is 2nd tallest tower made by Bhimsen Thapa. The original Bhimsen Tower was built in 1824 and was 11 stories high, two stories taller than the present day Dharahara. Dharahara was built for Queen Lalit Tripura Sundari, who was the niece of Bhimsen Thapa. She wanted a tower of her own next to Bhimsen's original tower.
There are 213 steps in the tower and at the top of the Dharahara there is a shiva temple.
The tower is made in Mughal style while walls of surroundings are made in European style while having Hindu temple at top, bringing all religion together.

Tihar is the second biggest festival of Nepalese. It is celebrated for five days in late autumn, which comes soon after Dashain. Two days from this festival are very popular. One day is celebrated for goddess Laxmi and the other one is celebrated to worship brothers for their long life by sisters. This festival is also known as the festival of lights. Candles and lamps are lit inside and outside the house and businesses. Tihar shows reverence to not just the humans and the Gods, but also to the animals like crow, cow and dog, who maintain an intense relationship with the humans.

Travel video about destination Kathmandu in Nepal.
Kathmandu is a metropolis in the heart of the kingdom of Nepal, a land of snow-white mountains and home of the gods. For many centuries, this was the centre of Buddhist power and culture and it is here that the largest number of temples is found, dedicated to numerous deities.
In the heart of the city is Durbar Square, in which the country's royalty resided until 1908 and where the most important festivals take place. Jagannath is one of the oldest temples on the square and the original building dates back to 1560, as does the adjacent Taleju Temple.
The Shiva Parvati Temple was built in the early years of the Shah Dynasty. Its five-sectioned portal-like frame features text that is believed to be ancient Nepalese writing.
Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess, Raj Kumari. For this role, a young girl is duly selected and is disallowed from leaving the palace until puberty. Her task is to affirm the king his power.
Over the years, the city has grown so much that Kathmandu is only separated from Patan by the sacred Bagmati River. The majority of the population is Hindu but Buddhists frequently use the Hindu sanctuaries. Here, religious coexistence is a reality.
The customs of the people in this 'Kingdom on the Roof of the World' may seem strange to those from beyond its borders. But this land of both jungle and everlasting snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs.

There are no signs of the new houses in Nepal to shelter April 25's earthquake victims which the government promised.
The agency that was supposed to oversee billions of dollars in spending no longer exists.
And border protests continue to prevent needed supplies from getting into the country.
Aid groups are warning of a crisis - especially for the many of the estimated 400,000 Nepalis who live at elevations of 1,500 meters (4,920 feet) or higher.
Some are still living in temporary shelters in camps across the country, though there is no official number.
Their tents and huts built with tin sheets protected them from the monsoon rain, but will be little match for the snow and below-freezing temperatures expected in mountain villages by the end of November.
Many of those who have been living in temporary housing since the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks are in villages accessible only by foot.
Many of these villages will be unreachable during the winter months.
So far, there have not been any reported disease outbreaks among victims of the earthquake, which killed nearly 9,000 people and damaged nearly a million buildings in this Himalayan country of 31 million.
But there is still a great deal of deprivation and worry, along with frustration over a government that has been too consumed with internal conflict to provide adequate help.
At Bhaktapur, 13 kilometres (8 miles) east of Kathmandu, 70-year-old Kanchi Prajapati has been living in a tin shed with her family of six since she lost her house in the quake.
The village is below 1,500 meters, but still faces temperatures as low as 2 degrees Celsius (35 Fahrenheit) during winter months.
“The government has totally ignored us. All we got so far is the 15,000 Nepalese Rupees (145 US dollars) per family that was initially given. After that we got nothing. Now it is almost winter, we have no permanent shelter and we have no money to build a new house. The government should have helped us. We are now left with nothing,” said Prajapati.
Aid efforts have been hindered at virtually every turn.
Soon after the earthquake, the government and rescuers were able to gather emergency help like tents, tarpaulin and tin sheets, monsoon rain prevented them from reaching many affected areas.
And when the aid groups were getting ready to get materials shipped into villages, political turmoil engulfed Nepal.
Ethnic groups began protesting against the new constitution in August in southern Nepal, and the unrest left 45 people killed.
Once the constitution was adopted on September 20, protesters blocked border points, choking supplies of fuel and other necessities to the rest of the country.
Aid groups hoping to transport aid including blankets, jackets and sweaters to these villages have been left with deliveries stuck at the border and their own vehicles without fuel.
Talks between protesters and government have made little progress, and the blockade and shortages may continue for a few more weeks.
Key border crossings with China, meanwhile, have been closed for months because of earthquake damage.
With time running out and winter approaching, aid agencies including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are sending staff to distribute 70 US dollars in cash per family in these villages so they can purchase materials in the local market.
It is unclear, however, whether markets in mountain villages will have needed items in stock, since traders also have been affected by the fuel shortage.
Prospects for the longer-term task of replacing housing are at least as bleak, though international donors have pledged 4.1 (b) billion US dollars in aid and loans.
It took the government months to set up the National Reconstruction Authority to oversee spending, and it collapsed 11 days after it was finally formed because the regulation used to create it expired.
A fresh bill was presented in parliament but has not been approved because politicians have been busy dealing with the protests, constitution-making and electing a new prime minister and president.
Pokharel said the government has approved reconstruction spending of only 500 million US dollars so far.
The authority is supposed to handle the rebuilding of collapsed houses, office buildings, schools, hospitals and roads, and was empowered to bypass spending rules to get the work done quickly.
So far the government has only given 15,000 Nepalese Rupees (145 US dollars) per affected family as emergency aid so they can buy corrugated tin sheets to build sheds during the monsoon rainfall.
There was a plan to distribute another 200,000 Nepalese Rupees (1,900 US dollars) per family, but that has not happened yet.
The lack of a functioning government reconstruction agency affects non-governmental aid groups as well.

I captured by my mobile. It is a demonstration movement against Indian blockade in Nepal border after passed Constitution of Nepal on 20 September 2015.
Nepal is facing worst crisis due to this blockade. Like, fuel crisis for transport and cooking gas crisis became worst now. Government reduced half of all kind of transports due to oil crisis by odd and even. So people sufferings lot due to reduced vehicles in road. Government is also reduced to petrol to all of vehicles. Therefore, many restaurants are forced to shut down as cooking oil crisis. Some of goods price increased rapidly due to crisis.
This crisis due to Indian blockade as Nepali people claimed. Government is trying to import for China. But this route would be expensive.

Nepal UPR kicks off in Geneva, DPM Thapa presents report on human rights situation
Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa gave an opening speech and presented the report on behalf of the Government of Nepal, where the government has stated that the country’s human rights situation has significantly improved since the last UPR which was conducted in 2011.
In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Thapa highlighted the provisions made in Nepal’s new Constitution in recognition of human rights.
He said the fundamental goal of the new government would be to implement the new Constitution by removing the structural and functional obstacles and challenges in the way of socioeconomic transformation of the country.
“The Government has started to take necessary measures to formulate necessary legislative and policy tools needed for the smooth operationalisation of the Constitution,” he added.
It is the second time the UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group is examining Nepal’s human rights situation.
The Nepali delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Thapa would defend Nepal’s position during the review.
The Council is examining human rights record of 14 nations including Nepal during the session till November 13.
Three UN member states – Latvia, Morocco and Qatar – have been chosen as rapporteurs for the review on Nepal.
According to the UN, the review will be based on three documents including a national report prepared by the government; information provided by independent human rights experts and groups; and information provided by stakeholders that include national human rights institutions, regional organisations and civil society groups.
The UPR is a unique process which involves a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 UN member states. Since its first meeting was held in April 2008, all 193 UN member states have been reviewed during the first UPR cycle and 140 thus far during the second cycle.

Petrol Scarcity in Nepal because of India Blocked
The 2015 Nepal fuel crisis is an economic blockade, which began on 23 September 2015 and crippled economic activity by running down crucial supplies including fuel and medicine. Normally, roughly 300 fuel related trucks enter a normal day, and this has dwindled to sporadic passage of 5–10 fuel trucks, though shipments of perishables like fruits and vegetables were allowed to pass.[1] The crisis resulted from blockage and backup of fuel and goods trucks along Nepal's long border with India on the Indian side, by express order of Indian border officials.[2] Nepal has accused India of outright treachery and an undeclared fuel blockade, meanwhile India has denied the allegations, stating that the blockade had been imposed by Madheshi protesters themselves and India had no role to play in it. The fuel crunch is severe and ongoing, despite reports of a few fuel and goods transits.
Nepal facing critical fuel shortage due to blocked supply routes, fears of another humanitarian disaster
Nepal has been hit with fuel shortages since early August, when the Himalayan nation introduced a new constitution, which has upset the Madhesi ethnic group on the southern plains bordering India.

Concerns about Nepal's constitution[edit]
On 20 September 2015, the long stalled (since before 2010) new Constitution of Nepal was passed with around 9 representatives. 66 members of Nepal's 598-strong Constituent Assembly (CA), belonging to these groups, abstained from voting in protest.[3] By 20 September, more than 40 people including 8 police officers had been killed in clashes between the protesters and the police.[2] The demonstrations were not limited to the Terai; a diverse group of minority groups took to protest and let their voice be heard on the new constitution by enforcing bandhs or attacks on Nepali police — including marginalized lower castes like Gurung, Chhepa, Sherpa, Limbu, Rai people, Raute, Thakali, etc. who constitute about 35 percent of the population.[4] As far as Madhesh, two ethnic groups in the border region with India – Tharus and Madhesi people had also been protesting for their rights, alleging that the new constitution marginalized them. There were also bandhs declared in the Terai, even before the constitutional passage, curtailing Terai business but otherwise not affecting the rest of the country.
Ties and border
Due to an open border treaty between Nepal and India, citizens of both countries can move freely, work, and live across borders without passports, making tracking the movement of people difficult. Indian encroachment had long been an issue straining Nepal-India relations. Madheshis share strong socio-cultural ties to the neighbouring Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.[3] India had expressed concerns over the violent protests, and had asked Nepal to take Madhesi interests into consideration. The government of Nepal and the Nepalese media portrayed Madhesi movements as subversively backed by Indian infiltrators, and as an assault on their sovereignty, furthermore, Nepalis feel it is ultimately an attempt to absorb Nepal into India in whole or in part, citing the case of Nepali-dominated Sikkim.
The blockade
The blockade has caused the only international airport to deny foreign carriers fuel, contributing to isolating the landlocked nation from the outside world at a time when the country is still reeling from ongoing landslides blocking border trade with China following the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake. Meanwhile, none of the $4 billion of internationally donated quake relief funds to the Nepali government have been dispersed to survivors even after many months, causing anger among Nepalis and international agencies alike. The Nepali government has imposed a ban on fueling private automobiles including public transport and taxis. Some 2,000 factories are shutdown as of 1 October. The Nepal Oil Corporation alleged and sued Indian Oil Corporation for not allowing the majority of trucks to enter Nepal. The Unofficial "Indian Blockade" has forced Nepalese to ride bikes and also carpooling.

November 03, 2015 - (CNN)—An overcrowded bus skidded off a road Tuesday in Nepal and plunged down a hill, killing at least 30 people and injuring 35 more, a government official said.
People were riding on the roof of the packed bus when it tilted over -- apparently because of the excess number of passengers -- on a gravel road, said Shiva Ram Gelal, chief district government officer in Nepal's Rasuwa district. The vehicle then slid about 650 feet (200 meters) down a hill.
Nepalese military troops, police officers and locals carried out a rescue operation after the crash in Ramche, a village in Rasuwa about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Kathmandu, according to Gelal.
Most of the injured have been taken a hospital in Rasuwa, while a few have been taken to a hospital in the Nepalese capital.

Dear citizens of the nepal community, this is anonymous.
Anonymous has seen events unfold throughout the months. We have noticed how corrupt governments have grown more unstable and how wars have been set up.
I personally have known about the war with unofficial blocade done by INDIAN government for about 3 months now.
But today, people are just starting to realize that this is going to happen.
We Are Anonymous! and WE have awoken you realize that the government is trying to kill it's people by hunger and we will not stand for this. .
I don't understand why the nepal government is not serious to make relation with China? we all want this answer
this is warning from Anonymous to indian government and prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi, you will soon suffer the consiquences of unofficial economic blocade done for nepal.
Are we, the people: Just so comfortable with our lives right now that we want to be left alone in our own bubble.
Only until every last one of our rights are stripped away from us and we have nothing left but our broken hopes.
People of the Nepal, now is the time to rise..
Anonymous is ready and you must be too. The one question that I must raise is this: Why do the government of the nepal is making a slow steps?
Do they want to enrage every hacker at once? Send them a question and see how they respond? Tell the government that we are tired of political bribery ,
as times goes on this bribery has come an everyday hardly undetectable thing now.
But with the help of the people we can make sure that those people never be elected to office again. While we still have the right to vote.
Brothers and sisters don't let the wars overtake us and don't let the governments and the 1% take our lives,
they can't cannot control your mind or your spirits. Use it; Use what ever you have left that is not controlled by the government and take to the streets,
take it to your work your school, your family, your friends, your neighbors and anyone that who listen.
If you further the message and human rights for anyone and everyone, you have mine, and every other member of anonymous thanks.
People of the Nepal, now is the time to rise..
People of the Nepal, now is the time to wake up..
People of the Nepal, now is the time to make history..
Always remember:

In response to the ‘mushrooming’ of private schools, especially in the urban areas of Nepal, the government came up with ‘Institutional School Criteria and Operation Directives’ in 2013. It’s noble intention was to ensure quality education at affordable prices for parents. Most unfortunately, the directive equates quality education with infrastructural standards and in the process sets the stage for some regressive implications, many of which are foreseeable unintended consequences.
Samriddhi came up with a study in July 2015 to analyze the policy not based on its intentions, but implications. On one hand, complying with these regulations means that the cost of opening up a new private school is going to go up. On the other hand, pre-existing regulations that guide the education sector of Nepal have set a ceiling on the maximum fee any school can charge to its students. The authors’ back-of-the-envelope calculations show that fees set by the Kathmandu District Education Office (DEO) will not even cover the set up costs for schools that will be established in Kathmandu, let alone covering their cost of operation. In such case, how will the private schools respond and what does it mean for the parents?

Over ten years ago, the government of Nepal approved the construction of a water tunnel that promised to deliver much needed drinking water to residents in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city. Originally scheduled for completion by the end of 2007, construction is only half completed.
Less than half of Kathmandu’s residents have access to piped water. That’s during the rainy season when water is more abundant. Those who can afford it, have to buy water for basic necessities like drinking, taking baths and cleaning dishes. No one really knows how safe the drinking water is. Waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery and Hepatitis E kill thousands every year.
Government officials say the new tunnel called, The Melamchi Water Supply Project, will help alleviate the water shortages and provide clean drinking water. But residents in Kathmandu are skeptical. The project has faced numerous delays. The Chinese company, China Railway 15 Bureau Group, originally hired to do the job, was fired for lack of progress. In 2012, an Italian construction company, Cooperativa Muratori E Cementisti di Ravenna (CMC), was hired to finish the more than 20 KM of tunnel left to dig. They’re “as good as the Chinese so far” said Rajan Pandey, the deputy of the development project. The tunnel is supposed to be finished by the end of 2016 but more delays plague the project. All construction was put on hold for fifteen days after the earthquakes in April. More recently, CMC stopped construction again, citing lack of materials due to strikes in several parts of the country.

Vultures play a highly important ecological role through the rapid consumption of animal carcasses. They also have an important cultural role in the consumption of human dead bodies in sky burials within Nepal and Tibet.
Out of nine species of vultures, five species of vultures in Asia are in grave danger of extinction across the Indian subcontinent. Populations of White-rumped Gyps bengalensis, Long-billed G. indicus and Slender-billed Vultures G. tenuirostris have declined by more than 99% in India (Prakash et al. 2003; Pain et al. 2004) and Pakistan and annual rates of decline appear to be increasing. Further two more species of vultures, Red-headed Vulture and Egyptian Vulture have rapidly declined in the recent years (Cuthbert et al. 2006). Due to these declines, all five species are now listed threatened by IUCN - The International Union for Conservation of Nature. Except Egyptian Vulture which is listed as Endangered all other four are listed as Critically Endangered which is the highest threat category. In Nepal White-rumped Vultures have been declined over 91% till 2003 (Baral et al. 2004) and declined by 91% till 2011 (Chaudhary et al. 2011).
The cause of these declines has been shown to be the veterinary drug diclofenac (Oaks et al. 2004, Swarup et al. 2007), which is widely used to treat livestock in Asia. Vultures are exposed to diclofenac by feeding on livestock carcasses which contain residues of this drug. A post-mortem examination of dead or dying birds from India and Nepal showed a high incidence of diclofenac residues and visceral gout (Shultz et al. 2004). The result of mathematical modeling is consistent with the observed rate of population decline. Models indicate that only a small proportion (1 in 130) of carcasses contaminated with lethal levels of diclofenac can cause the observed vulture mortality rate (Green et al. 2004).
In order to halt the decline of these critically endangered birds, Government of Nepal put ban on production, import and use of veterinary diclofenac in June 2006 and endorsed Vulture Conservation Action Plan for Nepal (2009-13) in 2009. Vulture Conservation Action Plan for Nepal (2009-2013) is a part of the greater effort of the Government of Nepal to conserve and consolidate the conservation initiatives for all vulture species found in Nepal. The main objective of Vulture Conservation Action Plan is to prevent the extinction of vulture species by ensuring re-introduction, safe food supply, maintenance of suitable habitat and better understanding of the ecological importance of these birds in Nepal with a goal to revive viable population of vultures in the wild. Vulture Conservation and Breeding Centre was established on 2008 in partnership of Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) and Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN).
Bird Conservation Nepal has been supporting this Vulture Conservation Action Plan through integrated approach to conserve vultures in Nepal which involves scientific research, advocacy, sensitization, monitoring the use of NSAIDs, the collection of veterinarian pledges to stop using diclofenac and the operation of six vulture safe feeding sites. Within this line BCN has initiated projects under Vulture Conservation Programme. Under these projects a range of conservation action including in-situ and ex-situ measures has been implemented to support Vulture Conservation Programme.
