The Republic of Karelia is located in the northwest of Russia. It's a land of a stark, but overwhelming beauty.
Karelia has over 20 thousand rivers, and 60 thousand lakes, a paradise for every fisherman. Water tourism routes stretch across the White Sea and Lakes Ladoga and Onega.
Russia's most famous monasteries are located on the Solovetsky Islands and the Valaam Archipelago. And on Kizhi Island there is the historic museum of Russian Wooden Architecture.
In the Kalevala district, you can visit villages where well known folk songs were written, and enjoy Kalevala, the famous genre of Karelian-Finnish epic poetry.
The Republic of Karelia is a land of folk takes and poetic lakes.

The Anthem of the Republic of Karelia is the national anthem of the Republic of Karelia.
The music for the anthem was written by Alexander Beloborodov. The Russian lyrics were composed by Armas Mishin and Ivan Kostin. The Finnish text was written by Mishin alone. The lyrics of the anthem are established by law. The melody of the anthem in most parts follows the melody of the Finnish traditional song Karjalan kunnailla. Since December 2001, the Russian text is the only official one.

Once a Soviet Socialist Republic, Karelia was re-absorbed into the Russian SFSR as an autonomous republic in 1956. When Russia became independent in 1991, Karelia became an autonomous republic in the Russian Federation. During its days as an SSR, Karelia had a high concentration of Finnish-speaking people, but now the population is majority Russian.
Parts of the Karelian anthem (the second and fourth stanzas of the enclosed lyrics) closely resemble a Finnish Karelian folk song "Karjalan kunnailla" (On the Karelian Hills).

Karelia (Karelian and Finnish Karjala; Russian: Карелия, Kareliya; Swedish: Karelen), the land of the Karelian peoples, is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Finland, Russia, and Sweden. It is currently divided between the Russian Republic of Karelia, the Russian Leningrad Oblast, and Finland (the regions of South Karelia and North Karelia).
Various subdivisions may be called Karelia. Finnish Karelia was a historical province of Finland, now divided between Finland and Russia, often called just Karjala in Finnish. The eastern part of this chiefly Lutheran area was ceded to Russia after the Winter War of 1939-40. This area is the "Karelia" of the Karelian question in Finnish politics.
The Republic of Karelia is a Russian federal subject, including the so-called "East Karelia" with a chiefly Russian Orthodox population.
Within present-day Finland, Karjala refers to regions of South and North Karelia.
Karelia was bitterly fought over by the Swedes and the Novgorod Republic for a period starting in the 13th-century Swedish-Novgorodian Wars. The Treaty of Nöteborg (Finnish: Pähkinäsaaren rauha) in 1323 divided Karelia between the two. Viborg (Finnish: Viipuri) became the capital of the new Swedish province.

The Republic of Karelia (Russian: Респу́блика Каре́лия, Respublika Kareliya; Karelian: Karjalan Tazavalda; Finnish: Karjalan tasavalta; Veps: Karjalan Tazovaldkund) is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). Its capital is the city of Petrozavodsk. Population: 643,548 (2010 Census).
The republic is located in the northwestern part of Russia, taking intervening position between the basins of White and Baltic seas. The White Sea shore line is 630 kilometers (390 mi).

The most part of the republic's territory (148,000 km², or 85%) is composed of state forest stock. The total growing stock of timber resources in the forests of all categories and ages is 807 million m³. The mature and over mature tree stock amounts to 411.8 million m³, of which 375.2 million m³ is coniferous.

This was filmed between 3th and 6th May 2015. I had the pleasure of visiting Karelia. The Republic of Karelia is one of the subjects of the Russian Federation. Karelia is located entirely in the northern part of Europe on the border with Finland. This is a special world of the northern edge of Russia with clear water, bright sky and silence, broken only by the sounds of nature. Also Karelia is considered to be "the land of rivers and lakes" - this area has about 60 thousand lakes and 27 thousand rivers. The largest of the lakes are Ladoga and Onega. We’ve traveled over 2,500 km. During those days i've been shooting this film and I shot 10,000 images. Karelia has over 20 thousand rivers, and 60 thousand lakes, a paradise for every fisherman. Water tourism routes stretch across the White Sea and Lakes Ladoga and Onega. Russia's most famous monasteries are located on the Solovetsky Islands and the Valaam Archipelago. And on Kizhi Island there is the historic museum of Russian Wooden Architecture. When Russia became independent in 1991, Karelia became an autonomous republic in the Russian Federation. During its days as an SSR, Karelia had a high concentration of Finnish-speaking people, but now the population is majority Russian. Parts of the Karelian anthem (the second and fourth stanzas of the enclosed lyrics) closely resemble a Finnish Karelian folk song "Karjalan kunnailla" (On the Karelian Hills). -

This was filmed between 3th and 6th May 2015. I had the pleasure of visiting Karelia. The Republic of Karelia is one of the subjects of the Russian Federation. Karelia is located entirely in the northern part of Europe on the border with Finland. This is a special world of the northern edge of Russia with clear water, bright sky and silence, broken only by the sounds of nature. Also Karelia is considered to be "the land of rivers and lakes" - this area has about 60 thousand lakes and 27 thousand rivers. The largest of the lakes are Ladoga and Onega. We’ve traveled over 2,500 km. During those days i've been shooting this film and I shot 10,000 images. When Russia became independent in 1991, Karelia became an autonomous republic in the Russian Federation. The Republic of Karelia is one of the subjects of the Russian Federation. Karelia is located entirely in the northern part of Europe on the border with Finland. This is a special world of the northern edge of Russia with clear water, bright sky and silence, broken only by the sounds of nature. Also Karelia is considered to be "the land of rivers and lakes" - this area has about 60 thousand lakes and 27 thousand rivers. The largest of the lakes are Ladoga and Onega.
We’ve traveled over 2,500 km. During those days i've been shooting this film and I shot 10,000 images.
