Brushing aside all warnings by agriculture officials about acute shortage of water for irrigation of first crop this season due to failure of south west monsoon and poor storage in Periyar dam, farmers have brought 80 per cent of lands in the Cumbum Valley under paddy cultivation thanks to indiscriminate tapping of water from Periyar dam ... Such illegal tapping scaled down inflow into the Vaigai dam which has been depleting rapidly....

Four big Marathwada dams still in dead storage

Four big dams in Marathwada, two each in Osmanabad and Beed districts, continue to be in dead storage even after three-and-a-half months of monsoon. The current situation of these dams is not much different from the corresponding period last year and the low water stock may hamper plans of regulating water supply for drinking and irrigation purposes in the two districts, along with Latur and its nearby areas....

MORANG. Locals of Letang Bhogteni Municipality-4 in Morang district have been reeling under acute shortage of drinking water of late. According to local Lalit Tamang, over 4,000 people of Deuralidanda, Birajedanda, Bhalugaude, Belchauri, Kerabari, Bhaluwa and Letang have been facing drinking water crisis.
