Howard Robard Hughes, Jr. (December 24, 1905 – April 5, 1976) was an American business magnate, investor, aviator, engineer, film producer, director, and philanthropist. He was one of the wealthiest people in the world. He gained prominence from the late 1920s as a maverick film producer, making big-budget and often controversial films like The Racket (1928), Hell's Angels (1930), Scarface (1932), and The Outlaw (1943). Hughes was one of the most influential aviators in history; he set multiple world air-speed records, built the Hughes H-1 Racer and H-4 "Hercules" (better known to history as the "Spruce Goose" aircraft), and acquired and expanded Trans World Airlines which would later on merge with American Airlines. Hughes is also remembered for his eccentric behavior and reclusive lifestyle in later life, caused in part by a worsening obsessive–compulsive disorder and chronic pain. His legacy is maintained through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Hughes' birthplace is recorded as either Humble or Houston, Texas. The date is also uncertain, though Hughes claimed his birthday was Christmas Eve. A 1941 affidavit birth certificate of Hughes signed by his aunt Annette Gano Lummis and Estelle Boughton Sharp states he was born on December 24, 1905, in Harris County, Texas. However, his baptismal record of October 7, 1906, in the parish register of St. John's Episcopal Church, in Keokuk, Iowa, has his birth listed as September 24, 1905, without reference to the place of birth.
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.
The earliest recorded use[citation needed] of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." [dubious – discuss] In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.

Plot
Early in 1971, McGraw-Hill passes on Clifford Irving's new novel. He's desperate for money, so, against the backdrop of Nixon's reelection calculations, Irving claims he has Howard Hughes's cooperation to write Hughes's autobiography. With the help of friend Dick Suskind, Irving does research, lucks into a manuscript written by a long-time Hughes associate, and plays on corporate greed. He's quick-thinking and outrageously bold. Plus, he banks on Hughes's reluctance to enter the public eye. At the same time, he's trying to rebuild his marriage and deflect the allure of his one-time mistress, Nina Van Pallandt. Can he write a good book, take the money, and pull off the hoax?

His wife left him for a lesbian.::Clifford Irving: You're kind to tell me that, Dick. You're a very good man. You're a good friend. Need a loan?::Dick Suskind: Always.
Dick Suskind: Cliff, you publish this you will have a storm of shit rain down on you.
Edith Irving: You're always so careful when you talk, always so soft like a cushion for what you want. But I am leaving. But before I go, I give you something. You are exhausted from your lies. So tell the truth. Tell me the truth about what you did with her this time. It is your moment to be clean.::Clifford Irving: I saw her.

I am the cabaret and every lighted sign that you see shining in the city. Everything is faster here, silhouettes of elevators braking for the highest floor, where I know my soul. Through my lens, the world sends its neon lights. I am the endless sand that populates these streets. I am loved. I am envied. I'll stretch on for miles until I reach the sky. I know my soul. Through my lens, the world sends its neon lights. It sends
Looking for me in the words I'm reading
Shying away from the life I'm leading here
Fall on the floor, stare up at the ceiling
One, two
One, three, three
He wants you to put this plate of crumbs
Back into the refrigerator
When you do, he wants you to make sure
To bring this plate with dessert later
Stand to the right, give him a bite
Insulate the bed, shoot him up when he's dead
He wants you to take a box Kleenex
And cut it with a knife
Use a stack of tissues for each hand
Killing germs could save his life
Climb into the cockpit, he drops his pants to grin
Just act like it's nothing, just nod and smile at him
Howard Hughes pops a Valium blue and he reclines the naked chair
And watches just one more movie
Howard Hughes has got something on you when the fingers grow long
And the toenails they wrap around him
Howard Hughes, what he did, what he'd do?
He wants you to seal windows and doors
Of his hotel room with tape
He will be allowed to pee on floors
'Cause his codeine constipates.
Listen to him moan about a multi million loan
Don't answer the phone it's been a long time since he's flown
Howard Hughes pops a Valium blue and he reclines the naked chair
And watches just one more movie
Howard Hughes has got something on you when the fingers grow long
And the toenails they wrap around him
Howard Hughes, what he did, what he'd do?
