Churchill's Bodyguard is a great way to explore the life and times of Winston Churchill: through the experiences of his personal bodyguard, Walter H. Thompson, who worked tirelessly to keep the great man from harm for nearly 18 years. Shaping a massive amount of archival footage into a narrative at once historically familiar but freshly energized by an emphasis on Thompson's point-of-view, Churchill's Bodyguard is historical suspense. The 13-part series begins with a 1911 incident in which the 35-year-old, then-Home Secretary Churchill led police on an effort to apprehend anarchists who robbed a bank. Watching from the London crowd, Thompson

Winston Churchill, Modern Times, Intellectuals, A History of the American People (2010)
Paul Bede Johnson (born 2 November 1928) is an English journalist, historian, speechwriter and author. He was educated at the Jesuit independent school Stonyhurst College, and at Magdalen College, Oxford. Johnson first came to prominence in the 1950s as a journalist writing for, and later editing, the New Statesman magazine.
A prolific writer, he has written over 40 books and contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers. While associated with the left in his early career, he is now a conservative popular historian. His sons include the journalist Daniel Johnson, founder of Standpoint, and the businessman Luke Johnson, former chairman of Channel 4.
During the 1970s Johnson became increasingly conservative in his outlook, and has largely remained so. In his Enemies of Society (1977), following a series of articles in the British press, he opposed the trade union movement, perceiving it as violent and intolerant, terming trade unionists "fascists". As Britain’s economy faltered, Johnson began to advocate the future British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s message of less government and less taxation. He was eventually won over to the Right and became one of Thatcher's closest advisers. "In the 1970s Britain was on its knees. The Left had no answers. I became disgusted by the over-powerful trade unions which were destroying Britain," he recalled in 2004.[9] After Thatcher's victory in the general election of 1979 Johnson advised on changes to legislation concerning trade unions, and was also one of Thatcher's speechwriters. Johnson was quoted in 2004:
"'I was instantly drawn to her,' he recalls. 'I’d known Margaret at Oxford. She was not a party person. She was an individual who made up her own mind. People would say that she was much influenced by Karl Popper or Frederick Hayek. The result was that Thatcher followed three guiding principles: truthfulness, honesty and never borrowing money.'"[9]
From 1981 to 2009, Johnson wrote a column for The Spectator; initially focusing on media developments, it subsequently acquired the title "And Another Thing". In his journalism, Johnson generally deals with issues and events which he sees as indicative of a general social decline, whether in art, education, religious observance or personal conduct. He has continued to contribute to the magazine, though less frequently than before.[10] During the same period he contributed a column to the Daily Mail until 2001. In a Daily Telegraph interview in November 2003, he criticised the Mail for having a pernicious impact: "I came to the conclusion that that kind of journalism is bad for the country, bad for society, bad for the newspaper".[11]
Johnson is a regular contributor to The Daily Telegraph, mainly as a book reviewer, and in the United States to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary and the National Review. He also writes for Forbes magazine.[12] For a time in the early 1980s he wrote for The Sun after Rupert Murdoch urged him to "raise its tone a bit".[13]
Johnson is a critic of modernity because of what he sees as its moral relativism,[14] and finds objectionable those who use Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to justify their atheism or use it to promote biotechnological experimentation.[15] As a result of Johnson's views on evolution,[16] Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker[17] have been a target of Johnson's criticism. As a conservative Catholic, Johnson regards liberation theology as a heresy and defends clerical celibacy, but departs from others in seeing many good reasons for ordination of women as priests.[18]
Admired by conservatives in the United States and elsewhere, he is strongly anti-communist.[19] Johnson has defended Richard Nixon[20] in the Watergate scandal, finding his cover-up considerably less heinous than Bill Clinton's perjury, and Oliver North's involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair. In his Spectator column, Johnson defended his friend Jonathan Aitken,[21] has expressed admiration for General Augusto Pinochet[22] and (qualified) admiration for General Franco.[23]
Johnson was active in the campaign, led by Norman Lamont, to prevent General Pinochet's extradition to Spain, following the General's arrest in London. "There have been countless attempts to link him to human rights atrocities, but nobody has provided a single scrap of evidence," Johnson was reported as saying in 1999.[24] In Heroes (2008),[22] Johnson returned to his longstanding claim that criticism of Pinochet's regime on human rights grounds came from "the Soviet Union, whose propaganda machine successfully demonised [Pinochet] among the chattering classes all over the world. It was the last triumph of the KGB before it vanished into history's dustbin."[25] He has described France as "a republic run by bureaucratic and party elites, whose errors are dealt with by strikes, street riots and blockades" rather than a democracy.

Intelligence in War, Winston Churchill, WW1, A History of Warfare (2003)
Sir John Desmond Patrick Keegan OBE FRSL (15 May 1934 – 2 August 2012) was a British military historian, lecturer, writer and journalist. He was the author of many published works on the nature of combat between the 14th and 21st centuries concerning land, air, maritime, and intelligence warfare, as well as the psychology of battle.
Keegan was born in Clapham, London, on 15 May 1934, to a family of Irish Catholic extraction. His father saw active service in the First World War.
At the age of 13 Keegan contracted orthopaedic tuberculosis, which subsequently affected his gait. The long-term effects of his tuberculosis rendered him unfit for military service, and the timing of his birth made him too young for service in the Second World War, as mentioned in his works as an ironic observation on his profession and interest.[1] The illness also interrupted his education during his teenage years; however, his education included a period at King's College, Taunton, and two years at Wimbledon College, which led to entry to Balliol College, Oxford, in 1953. Following graduation he worked at the American Embassy in London for three years.[2]
In 1960 he was appointed to a lectureship in Military History at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the training establishment for officers of the British Army. Holding the post for 26 years, he became senior lecturer in military history during his tenure. During this period he also held a visiting professorship at Princeton University and was Delmas Distinguished Professor of History at Vassar College.[3]
Leaving the academy in 1986[4] Keegan joined the Daily Telegraph as a Defence Correspondent and remained with the publication as Defence Editor until his death, also writing for the American conservative website, National Review Online. In 1998 he wrote and presented the BBC's Reith Lectures, entitled War in our World.
When asked about the Vietnam War, Keegan repled: "I will never oppose the Vietnam War. Americans were right to do it. I think they fought it in the wrong way. I don't think it's a war like fighting Hitler, but I think it was a right war, a correct war."
Keegan believed that NATO's bombing of Serbia and Serbian targets in Kosovo in 1999 showed that air power alone could win wars.
An article in the Christian Science Monitor called Keegan a "staunch supporter" of the Iraq War. The article quotes Keegan: "Uncomfortable as the 'spectacle of raw military force' is, he concludes, that the Iraq war represents 'a better guide to what needs to be done to secure the safety of our world than any amount of law-making or treaty-writing can offer.'" He frequently justified the war by making comparisons between it and other, more popular wars, such as both World Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

Winston Churchill: Biography, WW2, Background, Early Years, Education, Facts, Quotes (1991)
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, DL, FRS, RA (30 November 1874 -- 24 January 1965) was a British politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. He is the only British Prime Minister to have won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.
Churchill was born into the aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough, a branch of the Spencer family. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer; his mother, Jennie Jerome, was an American socialite. As a young army officer, he saw action in British India, The Sudan, and the Second Boer War. He gained fame as a war correspondent and wrote books about his campaigns.
At the forefront of politics for fifty years, he held many political and cabinet positions. Before the First World War, he served as President of the Board of Trade, Home Secretary, and First Lord of the Admiralty as part of the Asquith Liberal government. During the war, he continued as First Lord of the Admiralty until the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign caused his departure from government. He then briefly resumed active army service on the Western Front as commander of the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He returned to government as Minister of Munitions, Secretary of State for War, and Secretary of State for Air. After the War, Churchill served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Conservative (Baldwin) government of 1924--29, controversially returning the pound sterling in 1925 to the gold standard at its pre-war parity, a move widely seen as creating deflationary pressure on the UK economy. Also controversial was his opposition to increased home rule for India and his resistance to the 1936 abdication of Edward VIII.
Out of office and politically "in the wilderness" during the 1930s, Churchill took the lead in warning about Nazi Germany and in campaigning for rearmament. On the outbreak of the Second World War, he was again appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister. His steadfast refusal to consider defeat, surrender, or a compromise peace helped inspire British resistance, especially during the difficult early days of the War when Britain stood alone among European countries in its active opposition to Adolf Hitler. Churchill was particularly noted for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people. He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory over Nazi Germany had been secured.
After the Conservative Party lost the 1945 election, he became Leader of the Opposition to the Labour Government. After winning the 1951 election, he again became Prime Minister, before retiring in 1955. Upon his death, Elizabeth II granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen in history. Named the Greatest Briton of all time in a 2002 poll, Churchill is widely regarded as being among the most influential people in British history, consistently ranking well in opinion polls of Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom.

Watching from the London crowd, Thompson witnessed a bullet barely miss the future prime minister. In a few years, Thompson would be in proximity to Churchill again, this time guarding him from IRA assassination threats.
Part of the story in Churchill's Bodyguard is the stark contrast between the two men. Thompson was the son of an insurance salesman; Churchill enjoyed many advantages in his wealthy family. Yet if Churchill was one of the key figures keeping the civilized world intact against the Axis threat during World War II, Thompson, a Scotland Yard detective, kept him on his rendezvous with destiny. Among the amazing stories are numerous attempts on Churchill's life from the likes of Irish terrorists, Indian assassins, Hitler's hit men and Luftwaffe fighters and U Boats, V2 rockets striking London, hidden explosives, and random crazed gunmen. But the intrepid Churchill marched on, even surviving pneumonia (with Thompson at his side) and doubts about crucial allies Roosevelt and Stalin. The intrigue surrounding Churchill's conferences with his American and Russian counterparts in Tehran and elsewhere is all here, as are remarkable encounters with Lawrence of Arabia and Dwight Eisenhower.
Walter H. Thompson appears at Winston Churchill's side in nearly every wartime newsreel—tall, gaunt, and always hawk-eyed. As the great man's personal bodyguard for nearly 18 years, Thompson saw history unfold firsthand. At times, his vigilance and quick thinking helped shape it.
Based on the complete, uncensored manuscript of Thompson's memoirs—uncovered only after his death—this 13-part documentary gives you a behind-the-scenes look at Churchill's life and leadership. Thompson shadows his boss everywhere, from Cairo to Yalta to the Western front. With his eye for character-revealing detail, he takes the measure of T.E. Lawrence, Adolf Hitler, Franklin Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin—not only as leaders, but also as men. And he vividly recounts attempts on Churchill's life by Nazi commandos, IRA terrorists, and other would-be assassins, some never before disclosed.
Using archival newsreel footage, historically precise reenactments, and Thompson's own words, Churchill's Bodyguard puts you inside the skin of a working-class Scotland Yard detective who experienced the 20th-century's great events as both witness and participant.

Thereafter the near retarded chain-smoking alcoholic knocked-kneed stutterer George VI was removed out of the Royal Gene Pool in terms of Breeding, and replaced by another illegitimate Royal — ‘Winston Churchill’.
Winston Churchill was the illegitimate child of King Edward VII, who was himself illegitimate.
Winston Churchill donated the sperm by Artificial Insemination to King George VI’s wife, who was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s maid.
The resulting child was born above a pub, above the Coach & Horses pub, in Mayfair, and that child is a Commoner given the name “Elisabeth” or “Elizabeth”, and you know that Commoner illegitimate Elizabeth today as ‘the uncrowned Queen Elizabeth II’.
Jim Fetzer: Who’s actually the child of Sir Winston Churchill.
Greg Hallett: Yes. So …
Jim Fetzer: By artificial insemination.
Greg Hallett: Yes, so is Princess Margaret (conceived by artificial insemination).
Jim Fetzer: It’s just astounding. It’s just astounding what you have disentangled, Greg. I am just in awe!

Winston Churchill 'Now we are Masters of Our Fate' Speech
This drama-documentary evokes what it was like to work closely with Churchill in the Cabinet War Rooms during the dark days of the Blitz and the later bombing raids on London.
The programme combines superb archive film from the Imperial War Museum's vast collection, with atmospheric dramatisations actually filmed inside the Cabinet War Rooms -- the real locations from where Churchill led the nation.
The programme includes first-hand accounts which reveal the challenges of working with Britain's bullish war leader at close quarters. The programme then traces the key stages of the war from Churchill's viewpoint -- his relationship with President Roosevelt, the turning point at El Alamein, D-Day and the final journey to victory. At his finest hour he is defeated in the General Election in the summer of 1945. It is a dramatic story of how one man's leadership rallied the nation and turned almost certain defeat into victory.

Przemyśl Falls Again - Winston Churchill Gets Fired I THE GREAT WAR Week 43
The big success of the Gallipoli Campaign never came, thousands of soldiers died and so Winston Churchill is forced to resign. At the same time August von Mackensen is pushing back the Russians and forcing them to hide in Przemyśl fortress - the same fortress they just conquered from the Austro-Hungarians a few weeks earlier.

Fifty years after Churchill’s death, the leader’s actions continue to shape the world. In his survey of this multi-talented politician, military strategist, and writer, Johnson, the mayor of London since 2008 and himself a former journalist and author of the inimitable Johnson’s Life of London, argues that history can be made by strong individuals not impersonal forces.
Founded by Carla Cohen and Barbara Meade in 1984, Politics & Prose Bookstore is Washington, D.C.'s premier independent bookstore and cultural hub, a gathering place for people in

The Unsung Heroes of the Holocaust, The Winston Churchill War Papers (2003)
Sir Martin John Gilbert, CBE (25 October 1936 – 3 February 2015) was a British historian and honorary Fellow of Merton College, University of Oxford. He was the author of over eighty books, including works on the Holocaust and Jewish history.
After two years of postgraduate work, Gilbert was approached by Randolph Churchill to assist his work on a biography of his father, Sir Winston Churchill. That same year, 1962, Gilbert was made a Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, and he spent the next few years combining his own research projects in Oxford with being part of Randolph's research team in Suffolk, working on the first two volumes of the Churchill biography. When Randolph died in 1968, Gilbert was commissioned to take over the task, completing the remaining six main volumes of the biography.
Gilbert spent the next 20 years on the Churchill project, publishing a number of other books throughout the time. Each main volume of the biography is accompanied by two or three volumes of documents, and so the biography currently runs to 24 volumes (over 25,000 pages), with another 7 document volumes still planned. In the 1960s, Gilbert compiled some of the first historical atlases. Michael Foot, reviewing a volume of Gilbert's biography of Churchill in the New Statesman in 1971 praised his meticulous scholarship and wrote: "Whoever made the decision to make Martin Gilbert Churchill's biographer deserves a vote of thanks from the nation. Nothing less would suffice."
His other major works include a definitive single-volume history on the Holocaust, as well as single-volume histories of The First World War and The Second World War. He also wrote a three-volume series called A History of the Twentieth century. Gilbert described himself as an "archival historian" who made extensive use of primary sources in his work. Interviewed by the BBC on the subject of Holocaust research, Gilbert said he believes that the "tireless gathering of facts will ultimately consign Holocaust deniers to history."[4] He wrote the foreword to Denis Avey's The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz which he described as "a most important book' and stated that Avey's "description of Buna-Monowitz is stark, and true."[5] The accuracy of certain aspects of Avey's account have subsequently been challenged [6][7]
In 1995, he retired as a Fellow of Merton College, but was made an Honorary Fellow. In 1999 he was awarded a Doctorate by Oxford University, "for the totality of his published work". From 2002, he was a Distinguished Fellow of Hillsdale College, Michigan, and between 2006 and 2007 he was a professor in the history department at the University of Western Ontario. In October 2008, he was elected to an Honorary Fellowship at Churchill College.
Gilbert was appointed in June 2009 as a member of the British government’s inquiry into the Iraq War (headed by Sir John Chilcot). His appointment to this inquiry was criticised in parliament by William Hague, Clare Short, and George Galloway on the basis of neutrality, Gilbert having written in 2004 that George W. Bush and Tony Blair may in future be esteemed to the same degree as Roosevelt and Churchill.[8][9] In an article for The Independent on Sunday published in November 2009, Oliver Miles, the former British ambassador to Libya, objected to the presence of Gilbert and Sir Lawrence Freedman on the committee partly because of their Jewish background and Gilbert's Zionist sympathies.[10] In a later interview, Gilbert saw Miles attack as being motivated by antisemitism.[11]
As the Iraq inquiry was to be conducted on Privy Council terms, Gilbert (who was not previously a Privy Counsellor) was appointed to the Council in order to take part in it.

David Irving - Warmongers, England, Winston Churchill.

David John Cawdell Irving, born 24 March 1938, is an English Holocaust revisionist and author who has written many books on the military and political history of World War II, with a focus on Nazi Germany. His works include The Destruction of Dresden (1963), Hitler's War (1977), Churchill's War (1987), and Goebbels: Mastermind of the Third Reich (1996). Irving's revisionist views of World War II has indeed been taken seriously by main historians, he has been recognized for his knowledge of Nazi Germany and his ability to unearth new historical documents. Irving has received greatest of respect for his method of researching and of course for being the only historian to have the Totale Trust of his sources throughout Germany, throughout the World.

"FOR BETTER or for worse . . . the best known historians of the Nazi era are now [Daniel] Goldhagen and the British writer David Irving."-- Holocaust and Genocide Studies, vol. 11, no. 3 (Oxford University Press, in association with U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum). “Bombing Dresden. Who is to blame?” – a wartime mystery FROM EARLY July 2015 David Irving starts a two-week tour of his favourite British cities, from Scotland to Devon, meeting his readers and talking to private groups. His topic: the mystery of who started the saturation bombing campaign in World War Two, which climaxed in the horrors of Dresden; there’s no simple answer, and the one Irving offers will not please Churchill fans. So: Winston Churchill, or Adolf Hitler? Who started the bombing program that in retrospect has come to parallel the worst excesses of World War Two, killing two million Germans, French, Poles, Belgians, and Dutch civilians alike. It was never condemned in any post-war tribunal, although it is now acknowledged as a War Crime, and a Geneva Convention now prohibits the targeting of civilians under the guise of military bombardment. The wartime offensive was pressed home by brave airmen from all over the Empire, most of whom had actually enlisted for Fighter Command in defense of their country, but were then blackmailed into killing civilians.
Until now it has been commonly added to the crimes that Hitler committed: injustice is one price for losing a war. Where did Hitler actually stand on this, and what do we know about how the bombing began? The offensive climaxed in the R.A.F.’s Dresden raid in February 13, 1945, but there were others.
David Irving, author of the acclaimed and acknowledged history of the Dresden episode, speaks and presents original documents from the archives which lead us re-evaluate the roles of Churchill, Goering, and Hitler. In 1961 the air ministry quietly tried to prevent Sir Arthur Harris, Bomber Command’s fabled commander-in-chief, from speaking out to Irving. Now David Irving continues his lifelong campaign for Real History, laying bare the truth.

How do you work 100% for clients and another 100% for your own brand? The answer is simple: you need to work harder. And faster. There's really nothing else to it. I'm exhausted every day, but I'm making all sorts of things happen in my eighteen hours. Not only am I working eighteen hours, I'm working fast as hell in this eighteen hours. And, I'm prioritizing what's important and what's not.
We're all different. We work in different ways. If you're Type A, maybe you just need to schedule non-negotiable time for your personal brand if it's that important to you. But really, there is no magic answer here. The answer is just more time, and faster within that time.
Now, the faster part might confuse some people. I always tell people to start working harder, stop watching Lost, but there's another variable: be much faster in the hours you'er already in. There is not a second that's down for me. Some people say they work ten minutes day, but then when I audit them, there's fifteen minutes here and there where they watched a YouTube video. We fight for minutes on my team. Even seconds.
I used to think I was the biggest workaholic that lived. From twenty-two to thirty, I really thought I was all in. But I had enough time to bullshit about baseball with friends. I had time. Now, I'm dramatically faster. And I'm working more hours. That's how it's happening.
So that's the answer. More hours. Faster. Better. Stronger.

More hours. Faster. Better. Stronger.

Full title reads: "The Newsreel Association having offered equal facilities to the three principal Political Parties present in this issue of Pathe News an interview with the Rt. Hon. Winston Churchill, OM CH MP".
Pathe studios, Wardour St, London.
Winston Churchill, leader of the Conservative Party speaks in advance of the 1950 General Election: "Permit me, ladies and gentlemen, to claim your attention for a moment. It can only be a moment, for as you know we are all on the ration. The vote that you will give on February 23rd is of profound importance to your future, your homes and families and to our country. The choice is plain, are we now to take another plunge into Socialist regimentation or shall we return to the highroad of freedom of enterprise and with proper safeguards opportunity for all? Under the Socialist system where everything is controlled, by an all-powerful state, we cannot hope to uphold our standard of life and and secure employment for the 50 millions crowded onto our small island. If we are to be independent in foreign aid ...
He talks about people rising by their own exertions. He calls for people to reject the narrow cramping doctrines of Socialism. He talks about reaching broad uplands where plenty, peace and justice reign."

Winston Churchill's surviving Daughter Lady Soames
2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill's death, the 75th anniversary of his first becoming Prime Minister, and the 75th anniversary of his ‘Finest Hour’ at the Battle of Britain.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century when he led Britain during the Second World War, Sir Winston Churchill also stood as the University of Bristol’s longest standing Chancellor from 1929 to 1965. His granddaughter Celia Sandys came to the University to give a special lecture. Here's BBC Points West's interview with her.

Winston Churchill: THE WHOLE TRUTH (INCREDIBLE HISTORY DOCUMENTARY)
The Right Honourable Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965), the son of Lord Randolph Churchill and an American mother, was educated at Harrow and Sandhurst. After a brief but eventful career in the army, he became a Conservative Member of Parliament in 1900. He held many high posts in Liberal and Conservative governments during the first three decades of the century. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty - a post which he had earlier held from 1911 to 1915. In May, 1940, he became Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and remained in office until 1945. He took over the premiership again in the Conservative victory of 1951 and resigned in 1955. However, he remained a Member of Parliament until the general election of 1964, when he did not seek re-election. Queen Elizabeth II conferred on Churchill the dignity of Knighthood and invested him with the insignia of the Order of the Garter in 1953. Among the other countless honours and decorations he received, special mention should be made of the honorary citizenship of the United States which President Kennedy conferred on him in 1963.

David Irving.
------------------
"Der SPIEGEL wird seinen neuen Autor im Auge behalten: Während sein Bericht in diesem Heft beginnt, reist Irving schon wieder durch Deutschland, um Material für eine neue Dokumentation zusammenzutragen"
Der Spiegel, Germany's leading news magazine, in 1965
". . . a British historian, David Irving, perhaps the greatest living authority on the Nazi era . . ." Stephen Spender, New York Times Review of Books.
"SUCH PEOPLE AS David Irving have an indispensable part in the historical enterprise, and we dare not disregard their views." Professor Gordon C Craig, The New York Review of Books, September 19, 1996.
"ES IST EIN GLÜCK für uns . . . einen Irving zu haben, der den Historikern zumindest neue Anstöße gibt." Professor Hans Mommsen, Ruhr-Univ. Bochum, 1978: now see his panic! Charakterschweine gibt es ja überall.

More hours. Faster. Better. Stronger.
