The West Bank (Arabic: الضفة الغربية aḍ-Ḍaffah l-Ġarbiyyah, Hebrew: הגדה המערבית, HaGadah HaMa'aravit also known as Hebrew: יהודה והשומרון Yehuda ve-Ha'Shomron (Judea and Samaria)) of the Jordan River is the landlocked geographical eastern part of the Palestinian territories located in Western Asia. To the west, north, and south, the West Bank shares borders with the state of Israel. To the east, across the Jordan River, lies the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The West Bank also contains a significant coastline along the western bank of the Dead Sea. Since 1967, most of the West Bank has been under Israeli military occupation and is referred to as Judea and Samaria Area by Israel. A smaller part of the West Bank is administered by the Israeli civilian authorities as part of Jerusalem District.

Clashes have erupted between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces following the funeral of a man killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.
Violence broke out in the town of Beit Furik southeast of the city of Nablus. Ahmad Izzat Khatatbeh succumbed to his wounds on Thursday after being shot by Israeli forces at a checkpoint a week earlier. An Israeli army spokesperson said the shooting took place after a petrol bomb was thrown at an Israeli army patrol in the area. According to the UN, Thursday’s fatality brings to 26 the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in 2015.

Apologize to Israel for saying West Bank is Occupied?!
What CNN is doing is really crazy. I want you to understand how bizarre it is for this CNN host to behave like this. Incredibly, CNN host S.E. Cupp said on the Crossfire show, "Now, I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone at this table that Chris Christie had to apologize for using similar language about Palestinian occupation. Is Hillary Clinton going to apologize to Israel for using that same language?" SEE VIDEO: Chris Christie Kisses Up to Extremist Denial of Occupied Territories

All Hillary Clinton did was write, ""In the West Bank, I got my first glimpse of life under occupation for Palestinians, who were denied the dignity and self-determination that Americans take for granted." yet CNN plays along with the idea that the word "occupation"
I've read the chapter in her book on Israel, and let me tell you, there is a doozy in there. Let me just read. She writes of her first visit to Israel, "I got my first glimpse of life under occupation for Palestinians who are denied the dignity and self-determination that Americans take for granted."
CUPP: She believes the Palestinian territories are occupied, then?
"The Palestinian people deserve an end to occupation and the daily indignities that come with it. Palestinians deserve to move and travel freely, and to feel secure in their communities."

When you think of traveling to Israel visiting religious sites in Jerusalem or basing yourself in Tel Aviv may initially come to mind. However, when exploring Israel it is paramount to set aside enough time to get off the beaten path and explore more of the country. Fortunately, for us, we were able to make two separate trips to Israel experiencing as much food, culture, historical and modern attractions as we possibly could.
The following is a list of things to do in Israel with a focus on the top attractions in this travel guide:
1) Regardless of whether you can swim (or not swim) well you will most certainly float when visiting the Dead Sea. Covering yourself in gooey mud and joining others floating is one of the top attractions in Israel.
2) No trip to Israel would be complete without sampling the local cuisine and especially the street food. With this in mind we walked all the way from our hotel room in Tel Aviv to Jaffa - an ancient city renowned for its amazing hummus and other street food. Aside from just hummus we were able to try Shaksouka, cheese stuffed pastries, malabi and kanafeh.
3) Having the opportunity to take a tour of the West Bank (or Palestine) is an eye opening experience. Media coverage, from the perspective of the west, often depicts this area as being quite unruly and poor; however, a tour there really dispels a lot of myths. We had the opportunity to eat falafel, walking around the streets and get a real sense of what life is like in this region. Some highlights included visiting Sheppard's Field, the Jordan River and oldest city in the world - Jericho. To end our trip we drank beer at the West Bank Palestinian brewery.
4) Getting off the beaten track a little we visited Rosh Hanikra. Known as the window to the Mediterranean we were treated to breathtaking views and an amazing sunset.
5) Aside from just eating our way around Jaffa, we took the time to properly explore it on foot. One of the top highlights was visiting a traditional flea market,
6) Taking the cable car up to visit Masada was a welcome relief considering how hot it was on the day we visited. As we wandered about we visited an old water cistern and Byzantine church. From our vantage point we had amazingly unobstructed views of the Dead Sea.
7) Caesarea! The ruins of the ancient city once given from Agus Caesar to Harrod the Great was an experience we'll never forget. Walking around in the Hippodrome allowed me to visualize what the old chariot races must have been like.
8) One of my favorite meals in Israel was prepared by a Druze family. This amazing feast, in the form of a buffet, featured kebabs, olives, chicken and stuffed cabbage just to name a few.
9) Wondering wear to rest your sleepy head while traveling in Israel? Look no further than the Fauzi Azar Inn in Nazareth. This converted Arab Mansion offers a charming stay. Best of all is that free cake and coffee is available throughout the day and the buffet breakfast is amazing.
10) One of the more frontier attractions was visiting Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. We toured around the Banias Reserve and Mount Bental.
11) Considering how tasty the food is in Israel it would be a shame to leave without knowing how to recreate these delectable delights back home in your own kitchen. Fortunately, for us, we were able to take a cooking class at Dan Gourmet in Tel Aviv. We learned how to make Lahmacun and charred eggplant amongst other dishes.
12) Have you ever wondered how olive oil is made? Visiting an olive press answered our all of our questions and made us appreciate the craft of making this high quality cooking oil. For the best vantage point of Nazareth we headed to Mount Precipice for panoramic 360 degree views. Finally, we visited Haifa to check out the famous Bahá'í gardens.

Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world’s largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53,000 square metres - the height of a fifty storey skyscraper. In the middle of today’s modern city of Luxor, known as the ‘Capital City Of The Pharaohs’, the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile and, not far away, the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple. 67 kilometres from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple Of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, and archaeological paradise.

Questions raised over shocking West Bank image of boy with a broken arm being held at gunpoint by an Israeli soldier after girl, 13, seen biting attacker is revealed as prolific 'Pallywood star'
• Israeli soldier was pictured pinning boy to the floor with machine gun held up near his cheek in the West Bank
• But the gunman is ambushed by young girl who forces weapon from his hand and two women who claw at his face
• Girl in pictures is believed to be Ahed Tamimi, whose parents Bassem and Nariman are Palestinian activists
• She has appeared in a string of similar videos where she confronts Israeli soldiers and once won a bravery award
• The clash happened in the village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, during protests against Palestinian land confiscation to expand the nearby Jewish Hallamish settlement.
Questions have been raised over the authenticity of shocking images of a boy with a broken arm being held at gunpoint by an Israeli soldier after a 13-year-old girl seen biting his attacker is said to be a prolific 'Pallywood star'.
The remarkable images appeared to show an IDF soldier armed with a machine gun grappling with the little boy as two women make desperate attempts to pull him off following protests in the West Bank.
A young girl is seen ambushing the balaclava-clad soldier by forcing the weapon from his hands and biting him before he flees the scene. But it is thought the young girl in the photographs is Ahed Tamimi, whose parents Bassem and Nariman - also pictured - are well-known Palestinian activists in their village of Nabi Saleh.
The teenager has appeared in a string of similar videos where she challenges Israeli security forces and rose to prominence after she was filmed confronting one who arrested her brother, which resulted in her being presented with a bravery award.
She was handed the 'Handala Award for Courage' by the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in Istanbul, where she reportedly expressed she would like to live.
Online blogs have dubbed her 'Shirley Temper' and accused her of being a 'Pallywood' star - a term coined by author Richard Landes, describing the alleged media manipulation by Palestinians to win public relations war against Israel. Her father, Bassem al-Tamimi, was convicted by an Israeli military court in 2011 for 'sending people to throw stones, and holding a march without a permit' - a charge his lawyers deny.
He has been jailed eight times, while his wife has been detained five times. Other family members, including their son Waed, has also been arrested.
Bassem al-Tamimi organises weekly protests and it was reportedly at one of these demonstrations that the shocking images are said to have been taken.
An Israeli army spokesman said that Palestinians had been throwing stones at an IDF force which was set up in the area.
An image has emerged on the internet of a boy, said to be the youth that was held at gunpoint, throwing rocks with one arm, while his other remained in plaster and in a sling.
The spokesman added that a decision was made to arrest the boy and it was during the detention that a 'violent provocation' began, including a number of Palestinian women and children.
He told Haaretz that there was 'a violent disturbance of the peace in Nabi Saleh, in which Palestinians threw stones at IDF forces that were in the place.
'The youth who was photographed was identified by the lookout force as a stone-thrower, and because of this it was decided to detain him. At the time of the arrest, a violent provocation by a number of Palestinians developed, including women and children. In light of the violent altercation, the commander decided to not to go ahead with the detention.'
He added: 'Two additional Palestinian youths were arrested for throwing stones during the violent clashes. The soldier pictured was lightly wounded as a result of the violent actions against him.'
In another flashpoint, Palestinian protester hurled stones at Israeli army bulldozer during clashes which following a protest against Israeli settlements in Qadomem, Kofr Qadom village, near the the West Bank city of Nablus.

Palestine hosted its very first World Cup qualifying match on home soil on Tuesday.
The Group A game against United Arab Emirates took place near the West Bank town of Ramallah and was a qualifier both for the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Asian Cup.
Thousands of spectators turned out to watch the match, many seeing a football game live from the stands for the very first time.
One excited fan said: “I’m very happy because this is the first time I watch a match live, usually we watch it on TV. When you watch it live and for your own country it’s a different feeling, the atmosphere is great and I hope that the Fidaai (Palestinian team) wins.”

The West Bank village of Bil’in has one school for boys and one for girls. The boys’ school was operating as a co-educational school for elementary students because the girls' school had run out of space. Because that school was originally built as a boys’ school, it lacked the necessary facilities to serve the young girls.
The existing girls' school was given a major overhaul. An additional floor housing 12 educational rooms was built to accommodate more students, including a computer lab, a science lab, a multi-purpose hall, and a library. Around the school, the playground was repaved and painted, shading and seats were added, and two wate

Is 'Romeo and Juliet' really a love story, or is it a play about young people living in dangerous circumstances? How might life under occupation produce a new reading of 'Julius Caesar'? What choices must a group of Palestinian students make, when putting on a play which has Jewish protagonists? And why might a young Palestinian student refuse to read? For five months at the start of 2013, Tom Sperlinger taught English literature at the Abu Dis campus of Al-Quds University in the Occupied W

Palestine host first World Cup qualifier on home soil
Unfortunately for the home supporters the match at the Faisal Husseini National Stadium in the A-Ram district, near Jerusalem, ended goalless.
But outside of the actual result it was an historic victory for Palestine and its people, who can now look forward to more World Cup home games – the next of which is against Saudi Arabia in October.

Around the school, the playground was repaved and painted, shading and seats were added, and two water fountains installed for the students.
The project was completed under the PCID Program, funded by USAID and implemented by ANERA.

For five months at the start of 2013, Tom Sperlinger taught English literature at the Abu Dis campus of Al-Quds University in the Occupied West Bank. In this account of the semester, Sperlinger explores his students' encounters with works from 'Hamlet' and 'The Yellow Wallpaper' to Kafka and Malcolm X. By placing stories from the classroom alongside anecdotes about life in the West Bank, Sperlinger shows how his own ideas about literature and teaching changed during his time in Palestine, and asks what such encounters might reveal about the nature of pedagogy and the role of a university under occupation.

Battle ~ West of Orontes River Syrian War - Arabs vs Zionist TV Documentary Video
Special documentary with exclusive footage from the frontline of the Syrian Arab Army and Hizbullah's War Against the Zionist Wahhabi backed al-Nusra Front and FSA Terrorists in the al-Qusayr Area (which is West of the Orontes River in the border area of Lebanon and Syria) - well worth watching.
The Syrian conflict is now in its third year. Atrocities carried out by foreign backed militants have claimed tens of thousands of lives including those of children and women. Al-Qaida has now officially announced its presence in the war. The West has time and again stated its support of the armed insurgents and the Al-Nusrat front's crimes are becoming ever more gruesome. Meanwhile Al-Qusayr countryside -- especially regions located on the western bank of the Orontes River - plays a significant role in the transfer of arms and militants into the country. The area has acted as a major transit point for an influx of weapons and fires in the past two years.
With exclusive footage from the front-lines of the Syrian Arab Army, the movie tells the story of how this area was freed village by village to create a buffer zone between Lebanon and the region to cut the supply routes of the armed groups.

'Israeli settlements in West Bank a sad issue, seems irreversible' - Israeli ex-diplomat
Israel is expanding its presence in the West Bank despite the fact it's one of the main obstacles to peace talks. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, however, keeps talking about his desire to find a solution to the Middle East conflict. But looking at the actions, not the words, does Israel really want peace? We talk about this and more to Alon Liel, former director general of Israel's Foreign Ministry.

In response to last year's Gaza conflict, the Israeli government announced the construction of further settlements in the West Bank — a move condemned by the international community for escalating tensions that were already highly fraught.
The expansion of the settlements has consumed privately owned Palestinian land, causing the destruction of Palestinian homes, produce, and livelihoods. Despite Israeli settlements taking up only one percent of land in the West Bank, they now exert control over 42 percent, with settlement boundaries often 10 times larger than the settlements themselves.
VICE News traveled to the West Bank to speak to displaced Palestinians and activists who are trying desperately to address the grievances that boiled over with such horrific consequences in 2014.

Palestinian protesters have clashed with Israeli forces in Jerusalem al-Quds and the occupied West Bank.
Nearly 20 Palestinians have been wounded in the town of Kafr Qaddum in the occupied West Bank. Several people have also been injured as Israeli forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas at Palestinians in al-Khalil also known as Hebron. Clashes were also reported in the Tur neighborhood of Jerusalem al-Quds. Four Israeli soldiers were wounded in East Jerusalem al-Quds. Israel has deployed hundreds of additional forces in and around the al-Aqsa mosque to crack down on Palestinians. The Israeli forces have set up checkpoints to prevent Palestinian men under the age of 40 from nearing the Mosque.

Unholy War: Inside the Jewish settlements on the West Bank.
It began with the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teenagers by Palestinian extremists.
Then came the retribution killing of a fifteen year old Palestinian boy by Israeli extremists.
Now this most brutal of conflicts has again spiralled into dreadful bloodshed.
And once again, it's the vast mass of ordinary people who are trapped between the fanatics in their midst.
60 Minutes reporter Allison Langdon takes you inside the Jewish settlements on the West Bank, and to the war raging on the Gaza Strip, as Hamas and the Israeli Defence Force try to blast each other away.

This hour-long special weaves together both the Israeli and the Palestinian narratives. In Israel, we go from the venerable ramparts of Jerusalem to the vibrant modern skyline of Tel Aviv. In Palestine, we harvest olives near Hebron, visit a home in Bethlehem, and pop into a university in Ramallah. We also learn about security walls, disputed settlements, and the persistent challenges facing the region.

Travel video about destination Egypt.
Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx: 5000 years of history.Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra’s spell. Cairo is Africa’s largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and tomb of Tutankamun.

Walk from the Valley of the Queens across the desert and over the cliffs to the Valley of the Kings
Hire a bike and ride around Ancient Thebes - takes you less than 15 minutes to get there.
West Bank scene from a felucca boat, Luxor.
A local felucca ride just before sunset; shouldn't cost you more than about LE 30 (for one person) per hour.
Take a felucca cruise on the Nile for a 2 day trip to Aswan (the reverse trip is recommended, however, due to river currents).
Hire a donkey, horse, or camel to ride around Luxor's West Bank.Go to Pharaoh's Stables, just a short walk from the ferry terminal. They will take you to places where the big coaches cant go,so you can enjoy the real Egypt, with its friendly people and relaxed lifestyle.Every day is different when you see the West Bank by horse or donkey, and the guides will look after you all the way. They have horses for beginners to experienced riders. The Sunset ride and Nile ride is a must do.

Around the school, the playground was repaved and painted, shading and seats were added, and two water fountains installed for the students.
The project was completed under the PCID Program, funded by USAID and implemented by ANERA.

Publish: 2015-06-26
Is 'Romeo and Juliet' really a love story, or is it a play about young people living in dangerous circumstances? How might life under occupation produce a new reading of 'Julius Caesar'? What choices must a group of Palestinian students make, when putting on a play which has Jewish protagonists? And why might a young Palestinian student refuse to read?
