Zubir Said - The Singapore City Council Song and National Anthem
Zubir Said: The Singapore City Council Song and National Anthem / Bernard Tan, arranger / Chan Tze Law, conductor · Janani Sridhar, soprano · Orchestra of the Music Makers · Vocal Associates Festival and Children's Chorus · Queensland Festival Chorus · Perth Symphonic Chorus · The Winthrop Singers / Esplanade Concert Hall / 11 July 2015.
In 1958, Mr Zubir Said was commissioned to compose a song for the City Council of Singapore to use at its official functions. The song was meant to be a patriotic song in Malay, with the theme of "Onward Singapore". The song made its debut at the re-opening of the renovated Victoria Theatre on 6 September 1958.
The City Council Song had a longer verse and melody than the present day National Anthem. Its longer verse encouraged the people of Singapore to help each other and to live in peace and harmony, in addition to progressing towards happiness.
After Singapore became a self-governing state under British rule on 3 June 1959, the City Council Song was further refined and it was adopted as the state National Anthem. Specifically, eight bars from the verse were removed and the lyrics were made more concise.

City Moving Closer to Allowing Backyard Chickens
COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Progress from a work session this week could mean more feathers and feed in Coon Rapids next year.
On Tuesday night, the city council discussed the possibility of allowing chickens in the backyards of homes in town. It's an idea that's been thrown around for years and something other cities in the area already allow.
For years, Ben Hiltner of Coon Rapids has enjoyed growing his own produce but breakfast still requires a trip to the store.
“I have apple trees, plum trees, raspberries and an organic garden and it's just kind of the next natural step that a lot of people take,” Hiltner said.
Hoping for hens, he said he found a lack of support years ago and waited for the next election to grill council candidates on their poultry positions.
“I decided, 'Let's go to the candidates, see how they feel, and I'll put it out there so people know when they're voting, is this person in favor of it, are they against it?’ So that's what got it going again.”
The city's sustainability commission said it's done the research to learn how coops could come to Coon Rapids.
“We've talked to a lot of cities to kind of see what's worked, what's not. On our end, we realized we'd like it to be more strict and have set guidelines,” Coon Rapids recycling assistant Amanda Bednar said.
Their findings were presented at a work session to city council this week with a positive response.
“We want whoever it is who wants to raise the chickens, to really keep it up to make it nice and not negatively impact the neighbors,” Mayor Jerry Koch said.
“Some cities allow as much as 16 chickens; I think that's way too many on a residential lot so I believe we're going to start out with four being the number and I think that's a nice starting point and we'll see where it goes from there,” at-large city council member Steve Wells said.
The potential ordinance won't allow roosters or butchering on site, Bednar said. Some discussion continues on the proper distance from coops to neighbors and how many chickens can be owned. A 30-foot setback has been proposed.
“So the idea that you're going to have a little five-pound chicken hopping around in the backyard, cage regulated, it isn't the danger a lot of people think it is,” Hiltner said. “I'd be very happy if what was discussed this last week is what we get.”
An ordinance has yet to be drafted, but council members said they expect to have something passed by next spring.

Scottsville City Council 7 13 2015
This is the July 13, 2015 Scottsville City Council meeting. It is not the entire meeting, just the FIRST agenda item considering the 2nd reading of the ordinance that passed unanimously during the June Council meeting intended to navigate around the possible will of the Scottsville City voters. The council considered an ordinance that effectively bans alcohol sales within the City limits as a stop-gap measure to defeat the wet/dry petition by banning sales within 1000ft of a school, church or government building.
Scottsville Mayor Rob Cline announced rules for debate at the beginning of the meeting and recognized spokespeople for each community group represented. As you see, there were exceptions made to these rules of debate but only to one of the two groups. Yes, I called a point of order on Danny Patrick when he abandoned the rules. I am positive he would have done the same for me.

AMERICANS STAND UP TO HUNTINGTON PARK CITY COUNCIL FOR ILLEGAL ALIEN APPOINTMENTS.
Probably the wildest city council I have been too, they stopped twice for what became 10-12 minute breaks. Definitely the most people I have ever seen at a city council as well. There were more people then this who spoke in favor of what happened.
