The Beginning of the British Raj- Podcast
Our historical fiction podcast tells the story of a young Indian girl living in India during the beginning of the British Raj. The word “raj” comes from the Hindi word meaning “rule”, and the British Raj is the period of time during which Britain had control over the majority of India. The Raj began after the Sepoy Rebellion, which with Britain’s victory consolidated their reign. Indians were forced to adapt to the new way of life dictated by the British. After the first few years of the Raj, depicted in the story, Indians eventually adapt to the way of life and do not put up major resistance as the Raj lasts from 1858-1947.
