Central Asia is the core region of the Asiancontinent and stretches from the Caspian Sea in the west to China in the east and from Afghanistan in the south to Russia in the north. It is also sometimes referred to as Middle Asia, and, colloquially, "the 'stans" (as the five countries generally considered to be within the region all have names ending with that suffix) and is within the scope of the wider Eurasian continent.
In modern contexts, all definitions of Central Asia include these five republics of the former Soviet Union: Kazakhstan (pop. 16.6 million), Kyrgyzstan (5.5 million), Tajikistan (7.6 million), Turkmenistan (5.1 million), and Uzbekistan (29.5 million), for a total population of 64.7 million as of 2012. Other areas included are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, and sometimes Xinjiang and Tibet in western China and southern Siberia in eastern Russia.
Various definitions of its exact composition exist, and no one definition is universally accepted. Despite this uncertainty in defining borders, it does have some important overall characteristics. For one, Central Asia has historically been closely tied to its nomadic peoples and the Silk Road. As a result, it has acted as a crossroads for the movement of people, goods, and ideas between Europe, West Asia, South Asia, and East Asia.
There is a single railroad following the Silk Road route, which linked Xian, China with the Roman Empire by way of Central Asia.
Due to conflicting agendas, an international train route was never established. This documentary follows Ken Ogata on a journey to bring the Silk Road to life; starting in Turfan in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, he changes trains in the westernmost part of China, and proceeds on through Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and finally Turkey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's eight-day visit to five Central Asian countries and Russia has boosted India's multi-directional strategy. Modi's energetic diplomacy last week demonstrated that India can be the fourth seeker of influence there. The reason why Central Asians are eagerly letting India in is because of their widely perceived need for diversification away from the big two China and Russia. India would like to project that it is not replaying the harmful 'Great Game' but providing greater freedom to Central Asia, which treasures its independence. As a relatively declining power in Central Asia vis-a-vis ascendant China, Russia deems a growing Indian footprint there as desirable. During this marathon six-nation tour, Modi invoked India's heritage of moderate Islam and its complementarity with the Sovietised Islam of Central Asia. The real challenge for Indian diplomacy after the PM has done the spade work is to ensure that the SCO and BRICS, whose members issue communiques denouncing religious extremism, walk the talk.

R16 Central Asia took place in the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.
The concept of RESPECT is the everlasting theme of this massive four-day event. Over 300 artists, musicians, grassroots-content creators, promoters, producers, urban enthusiasts, hip-hop heads and b-boys from around the world convene in Korea, in an attempt to provide the proper inspiration necessary to push the movement forward. What started out as a world-championship-level b-boy tournament has now evolved into a massive annual festival, which seeks to encompass all aspects of urban youth cultures, as the festival draws visitors and spectators not only from Korea, but also from different regions of Asia and the world.
In 2007, the R16 World B-Boy Championships & Urban Arts Festival was launched as a means of answering a single, burning question: With the support of the government and nation, can grassroots, youth-based cultures like hip-hop and b-boying become profitable, self-sustaining industries? Can these underground movements embed themselves and maintain relevance in society and the mainstream media in Korea and throughout the world?
Through the generous support of the Korea Tourism Organization, the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the city of Incheon, this year's world-class festival will celebrate and demonstrate the power of youth and the positive possibilities a gathering of this nature can create.
More than anything, this event is a testament to the notion that through dedication and passion, anything is possible. Despite all the conflicts and prejudices that exist in our world, we can still overcome our differences and unite as a group through dance.

Oghuz Turks
The Ghuzz or Turkmen also known as Oguzes were a historical Turkic tribal confederation conventionally named the Oghuz Yabgu State in Central Asia during the early medieval period. The name Oguz is a Common Turkic word for "tribe". The Oguz confederation migrated westward from the Jeti-su area after a conflict with the Karluk branch of Uigurs. The founders of the Ottoman Empire were descendants of the Oguz Yabgu State. Today the residents of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Gagauzia and Iranian Azerbaijan are descendants of Oghuz Turks and their language belongs to the Oghuz group of the Turkic languages family. Nick Clarke, chief executive of Central Asia Metals (LON:CAML), says the company is on course to produce 12,000 tonnes of copper in total from its plant in Kazakhstan, despite reduced output in the third quarter.
An operational incident in June, now rectified, affected output in the three months to end September 30, but the facility did achieve a new monthly record last month (September), the firm said.
Clarke also comments on the company’s stage two expansion which will see it install additional infrastructure to enable the extraction of copper from the Western dumps.

According to Khazar sources, Oghuzes are the seventh son of Togarmah related to Gog and Magog.
In the 9th century, the Oguzes from the Aral steppes drove Bechens from the Emba and Ural River region toward the west. In the 10th century, they inhabited the steppe of the rivers Sari-su, Turgai, and Emba to the north of Lake Balkhash of modern-day Kazakhstan. A clan of this nation, the Seljuks, embraced Islam and in the 11th century entered Persia, where they founded the Great Seljuk Empire. Similarly in the 11th century, a Tengriist Oghuz clan—referred to as Uzes or Torks in the Russian chronicles—overthrew Pecheneg supremacy in the Russian steppe. Harried by another Turkic horde, the Kipchaks, these Oghuz penetrated as far as the lower Danube, crossed it and invaded the Balkans, where they were either crushed or struck down by an outbreak of plague, causing the survivors either to flee or to join the Byzantine imperial forces as mercenaries.

Lyon strives to carry on silk production tradition
Silk production originated in ancient China. Trade with Central Asia and Europe gave birth to the Silk Road. China's silk reached almost every corner of the world. And a link to the route can still be seen in the French city of Lyon.

Central Asia Metals CEO on Kounrad production and expansion plans
Nick Clarke, chief executive of Central Asia Metals (LON:CAML), says the company is on course to produce 12,000 tonnes of copper in total from its plant in Kazakhstan, despite reduced output in the third quarter.
An operational incident in June, now rectified, affected output in the three months to end September 30, but the facility did achieve a new monthly record last month (September), the firm said.
Clarke also comments on the company’s stage two expansion which will see it install additional infrastructure to enable the extraction of copper from the Western dumps.

Gebyar Tahapan BCA - Augmented Reality Driving Experience, Jakarta 2015
Bank Central Asia promotes a bank program for their customers where the Grand Prize would be a Mercedes Benz S-Class luxury car. The aim was to increase awareness and gain customers’ interest in the bank’s program whilst causing hype to maintain its well known and strong brand image.
To create an activity that would excite customers and entice them into desiring the grand prize to give extra encouragement in joining the bank program whilst having a memorable experience with the bank brand in the process.
Booths containing car seats, a steering wheel and a large screen were set up and placed throughout BCA branches in 8 cities. Branch customers are invited to sit in the car seats, view themselves virtually sitting in the car driving around through an Augmented Reality experience and have a glimpse of what it feels like to own and sit in the front of a Mercedes Benz S. Afterwards participants can obtain a printed momento photo to serve as inspiration and to enter into a competition where the most unique and expressive photos have a chance to win a smartphone. A driving game using a 3D model of the Mercedes S-Class was also created and set up in malls throughout major cities to further tease the dream of customers of driving their very own luxury car.

Xinjiang and China's Central Asia Strategy
How do China's concerns over the Uyghurs of Xinjiang affect its strategy in Central Asia? Arguing that China's turn to land routes to the West arise from its desire to escape from US control of sea lanes, Ben Chang suggests ways in which China's approach to former Soviet parts of Central Asia may mirror its strategy in Xinjiang.
This presentation will offer insights of importance to anyone following Central Asia, China, energy, development, and western strategies in Central Asia.

He has been the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia Correspondent for the Daily Telegraph for more than 20 years and a correspondent for Far Eastern Economic Review. He also writes for the Wall Street Journal, The Nation, Daily Times (Pakistan) and academic journals. He appears regularly on international TV and radio networks such as CNN and BBC World.
He is a well known and vocal critic of the Bush administration in relation to the Iraq war and its alleged neglect of the Taliban issue.[1] Rashid's 2000 book, Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia, was a New York Times bestseller for five weeks, translated into 22 languages, and has sold 1.5 million copies since the September 11, 2001 attacks.[2] The book was used extensively by American analysts in the wake of the 9/11 attacks[citation needed]. Rashid charged that former President George W. Bush plagiarized his work in writing his memoirs.[3]
His commentary also appears in the Washington Post's PostGlobal segment.
Rashid lives in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan with his wife and two children.

Simon Reeve travels through Central Asia in this four-part BBC TV series, shown on BBC2, BBC World and by broadcasters internationally. The adventure took Simon from the far north-west of Kazakhstan, by the Russian border, east to the Chinese border, south through Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the edge of Afghanistan, and west to Uzbekistan and the legendary Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.
The Guardian said it was 'a thrilling postcard from the edge'
The Times said: 'Simon Reeve's journey through Kazakhstan is a first-class Boys Own adventure on film and illuminating too. I can't imagine anyone switching off who stays for the first five minutes.'

Thanks for watching!
Sweaty, itchy beards. Pounding 45°C desert heat. Lung-implodingly high mountain passes. Cows in lime-green Ladas. More friendly kids than an extremely enthusiastic baseball coach could high-five in the busiest of baseball seasons, and so much more vodka than even the most serious Russian alcoholic could ever hope to consume. This film is the result of months of adventure whittled down to minutes of digital moving-image-magic for your armchair entertainment. Kick back with a nice cup of tea and enjoy some snippets of our bike ride through Central Asia.
Huge thanks to our friends for the fun and adventure along the way, and of course for the amazing footage! Good luck with the rest of your adventures!

For centuries, Central Asia has had a strong influence on China. From ancient poetry to modern business practices, we can see a continuous link between the two civilizations. CCTV’s Han Peng talked with Nobel-winning economist Christopher Pissaride about how the "Belt and Road" Initiative could boost connections in the region.

Ahmed Rashid (Urdu:احمد رشید; born 1948) is a former Pakistani militant, a journalist and best-selling foreign policy author of several books about Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia.
Rashid was born in Rawalpindi. He attended Malvern College, England, Government College Lahore, and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
After graduating, Rashid spent ten years in the hills of Balochistan, western Pakistan attempting to organise an uprising against the Pakistani military dictatorships of Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan. He ended his guerrilla fighting days frustrated and defeated and turned his attentions to writing about his homeland.[1]
