Peter Dinklage Emmy Surprise: What Did He Do With His Gum?

Peter Dinklage's Emmy win for Best Supporting Actor this Sunday was unexpected. As surprised as everyone was who was watching at home, the Game of Thrones star may have been more unprepared than anyone.

We say this because when his name was called, Peter appeared to spit his gum into his wife’s mouth. He was certainly chomping away when they listed the nominees, clearly not expecting to hear his name when they announced the winner.

On the telecast, he gives his wife a quick kiss, whispers something to her while chewing away, and then plants a longer, open-mouthed smooch. When he gets up to head to the stage, his wife is laughing pretty hard and Peter is no longer chewing gum.

He may have gotten away with the sly move, had he not called attention to it while accepting the award. “I wasn’t prepared at all,” he says once hitting the stage. “I was even chewing gum.”

Although the move looked pretty gross to us, Peter’s wife didn’t seem to mind helping her husband out of a sticky situation. Who knows, maybe the gum still had some flavor left!
