The Malay Peninsula or Thai-Malay Peninsula (Malay: Semenanjung Tanah Melayu; سمننجوڠ تانه ملايو, Thai: คาบสมุทรมลายู) is a peninsula in Southeast Asia. The land mass runs approximately north-south and, at its terminus, is the southern-most point of the Asian mainland. The area contains the southernmost tip of Burma, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and Southern Thailand.
The Titiwangsa Mountains are part of the Tenasserim Hills system, and form the backbone of the Peninsula. They form the southernmost section of the central cordillera which runs from Tibet through the Kra Isthmus (the Peninsula's narrowest point) into the Malay peninsula. The Strait of Malacca separates the Malay Peninsula from the Indonesian island of Sumatra while the south coast is separated from the island of Singapore by the Straits of Johor.
The Malay term Tanah Melayu (literally: 'The Malay Land') is generally used by the Malays and occasionally used in political discourse to describe uniting all ethnic Malay people on the peninsula under one Malay nation, although this ambition was largely realised with the creation of Malaysia.[citation needed]
John Burgess Wilson (25 February 1917 – 22 November 1993) – who published under the pen name Anthony Burgess – was an English author, poet, playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic.
The dystopian satire A Clockwork Orange is Burgess's most famous novel, though he dismissed it as one of his lesser works. It was adapted into a highly controversial 1971 film by Stanley Kubrick, which Burgess said was chiefly responsible for the popularity of the book. Burgess produced numerous other novels, including the Enderby quartet, and Earthly Powers. He was a prominent critic, writing acclaimed studies of classic writers such as William Shakespeare, James Joyce, D. H. Lawrence and Ernest Hemingway. In 2008, The Times placed Burgess number 17 on their list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945". Burgess was an accomplished musician and linguist. He composed over 250 musical works, including a first symphony around age 18, wrote a number of libretti, and translated, among other works, Cyrano de Bergerac, Oedipus the King and Carmen.

"I believe this drill helps us know each other better and trust each other more. I think we can keep moving forward and deepening cooperation continuously in this mode next year. I believe there are more opportunities for us to share our experience in different battle fields and improve the depth of our cooperation," said Colonel Ken Cheong, Commanding Officer 1st Flotilla.
The participants of the drill held a farewell ceremony after the drill and the missile frigate Yulin headed back to China.

Since 1981, an extensive section of the bay has been protected as the Ao Phang Nga National Park. The park is in Phang Nga Province, at 08°17'N 098°36'E.

Malaysia is situated just north of the Equator, between Thailand and Singapore. Malaysia is a federation of 13 states, with 11 on the Malaysian Peninsula and two on the island of Borneo. With a population of just over 27 million people, a low cost of living and a year-round tropical climate, Malaysia remains a favorite destination for travellers the world over.
Malaysia is a nation rich in diversities.
One of the first places you'll notice this diversity is in the smiling faces of those waiting to great you. Malaysia is truly a racial melting pot, where Malay, Indian, Chinese and smaller ethnic groups live together in respectful harmony.
Malaysia's diverse cultural heritage adds spice and colour to every aspect of life here, from religions and festivals to culinary traditions and architecture.
The national language is Malay, but English is widely-spoken, making it a breeze for travellers to find their way around and to get to know the locals.
Malaysia is also a country of awe-inspiring geographical diversity.
Looking for unspoiled beaches and clear tropical waters? In Malaysia, some of the world's most pristine islands and marine habitats await you.
Feel the need to rise above the mundane everyday world? Come, let your spirit soar among highland hideaways and mist-shrouded mountains.
Longing for a little adventure? Explore some of the Earth's steamiest jungles, wildest rivers and longest cave systems.
Malaysia is a land of natural diversity.
As one of the 12 most biologically-diverse countries in the world, Malaysia is a treasure-trove of amazing natural richness and beauty.
70 percent of the country's land area remains forested, and the country is a world leader in conservation and sustainable tourism programmes.
Malaysia is a place of diverse experiences. For active travellers there are endless ways to enjoy the Malaysian outdoors. Tee-off on some of the world's most beautiful golf courses. Explore endless trekking trails, or kayak up the river into valleys, forests and jungles that most people will only ever experience in nature magazines.
Then, there are those urban jungles to explore. In Malaysia, the past and the future sit side by side. Some of the New World's most celebrated architectural creations rise above proud historic districts that have changed little for decades.
Malaysians love to shop, and the country is packed with modern plazas, quaint shophouses and sprawling markets. From designer fashions and electronics to exquisite tribal handicrafts and antiques, Malaysia is the place for bargain hunters.
There are thousands of temples and places of worship that dazzle the senses and soothe the soul, as well as health and beauty spas waiting to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit.
Malaysia is a land with a culture as diverse as those who come to experience it. And those who come to visit often return, because no two visits to Malaysia are quite the same.

Modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles as a trading post of the East India Company with permission from the Johor Sultanate. The British obtained sovereignty over the island in 1824, and Singapore became one of the British Straits Settlements in 1826. Occupied by the Japanese during World War II, Singapore became independent from the United Kingdom in 1963 and united with other former British territories to form Malaysia, from which it was expelled two years later through a unanimous act of parliament. Since then, Singapore has developed rapidly, earning recognition as one of the Four Asian Tigers.

It lies off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator. The country's territory consists of the diamond-shaped main island, commonly referred to as Singapore Island in English and Pulau Ujong in Malay, and more than 60 significantly smaller islets.[8] Singapore is separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north, and from Indonesia's Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to the south. The country is highly urbanised, and little of the original vegetation remains. The country's territory has consistently expanded through land reclamation.
The islands were settled in the second century AD and subsequently belonged to a series of local empires.

This animation shows the plate tectonic history of India, Southeast Asia, and in particular the Malay peninsula (the red dot is Singapore). It was produced for an exhibit at the Singapore Sceince Centre. (I recommend that you go there and have a look.) The animation begins with the modern world, but then fades back in time to 100 million years ago when India and Southeast Asia were separated by a wide ocean (Tethys Ocean). Animals living in India and Australia evolved in isolation giving rise to such oddities as the kangaroo and platypus. 50 million years ago India collided with Southeast Asia, allowing migration between the two areas. Zooming in, we see that Australia arrived at the southern border of Southeast Asia ~10 million years ago.

Singapore lies just one degree
north of the equator at the tip
of the Malay Peninsula
where the Pacific
and Indian oceans meet.
The heart of this great trading
city lies at the mouth of
the Singapore River,
and its history is rooted in the sea.
In the 7th century, Singapore
was a trading center of an ancient
Sumatran empire, known as
Temasek or Sea Town.
A prince visiting in the 13th century
named it Singa Pura, or Lion City,
after spotting what he thought was a lion.
The 14th century saw the
empires of Java and Siam struggling
for regional dominance with the
Chinese admiral Cheng Ho, who
was established in the Malayan
port of Malacca. Within a
hundred years Singa Pura was
destroyed and reclaimed by the
jungle, until the arrival of Sir
Thomas Stamford Raffles of the
British East India Company in
1819. Recognizing the island's
strategic location, he shortened
the name to Singapore and declared
the island a British free port,
and it again became a flourishing
trading center, drawing merchants
and their goods from all over the world.
Today, an eight-meter
statue of a Merlion--half fish,
half lion--overlooks the river...
The Merlion is the symbol
of Singapore, providing a welcome
to visitors by day or night...
Nearby, remnants of Singapore's graceful
colonial past are still visible in
the buildings that cluster around
the Padang, or village green. The
stately City Hall, with its Corinthian
columns, stands next to the domed Supreme Court..
