Montmartre, Paris ... Off the Tourist Track
This is a look at the hilly Montmartre area of Paris, with emphasis on the parts of the butte that are off the well-worn tourist track.

Montmartre and Pigalle, Paris, France
A quick tour (1/4 hour) of Pigalle and Montmartre in Paris, France. About the first two minutes of the video contains scenes of Pigalle (including the Moulin Rouge); Sacré-Cœur Basilica and the areas on Montmartre start at 03:11.
Turn on closed captions if you want narration. I redid the captions on January 8 because the original captions were a bit messy.

Giro a Montmartre e cena italiana a Parigi! #PB004
19 marzo, GIORNO 4 - Per farmi perdonare oggi vi ho portato a Montmartre come mi avevate chiesto, fra artisti, viuzze e piccoli angoli di Parigi.

Hello and welcome for another video tour of a fantastic neighborhood in Paris by New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ). In this video, we visit the lovely district of Montmartre, a Paris neighborhood with winding streets that give the feeling that you have left Paris, which is one of the trendiest and most curious districts of the city.
This will be the first of a two-part series of video tours on this fantastic neighborhood.
Also, feel free to watch other great video tours of Paris neighborhoods, such as this one of the Champs Elysees ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qz6-ERBht8 ) or this one of Saint-Germain-des-Pres ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AePsn_S_ucY ).
Montmartre, or "the Mountain of the Martyrs," most likely gets its name from the martyr Saint Denis. When wandering around up on the hill, be sure to keep an eye out for the headless statue of Saint Denis hidden in a little garden.
Sacre-Coeur, the white-domed church on the top of La Butte, is actually much younger than it looks, and was the subject of much controversy when it was built in 1914. The building of the church helped lead to tourism in the city and especially to the Montmartre area as the French flocked to see the church, even though most of the artists and bohemian characters were firmly against the building of such a massive religious structure in Montmartre.
The Moulin Rouge is perhaps the most famous, or rather infamous, cabaret in the world. The red windmill was inspired by the thirty or so windmills that dotted Montmartre at the time it opened in 1889. The once ultra-risqué birthplace of the cancan dance has now turned into a sort of tourist Mecca.
If you really want to absorb yourself into the culture and daily life of Montmartre, there is no better way to truly enjoy your stay in Paris than to book a vacation rental in Paris with New York Habitat.
Located just next to the Moulin de la Galette in Montmartre, this furnished studio ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/paris-apartment/vacation/3938 ) is on the 5th floor of a 19th Century walk-up building. This apartment has wood floors throughout, an open fully equipped kitchen, and a massage shower.
On the ground floor, and easily accessible, this one-bedroom furnished apartment in Montmartre ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/paris-apartment/furnished/3643 ) features all the basic amenities, including cable TV and a DVD player, has the luxury of air conditioning, and is furnished with 2 single beds and 2 single sized sofa beds for sleeping up to 4 people.
Do not hesitate to visit our website ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/paris-apartment.html ), where you will find even more outstanding vacation rentals ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/paris-apartment/vacation ) and furnished apartments ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/paris-apartment/furnished ) provided to you by New York Habitat.
While the cabaret at the Moulin Rouge was more for wealthy Parisian men, the Moulin de la Galette held a "Bal Populaire, which was an event that anyone could attend" in the garden, for the locals to bring their sweethearts on the weekend. It was there that the impressionist artist Renoir painted his masterpiece, the Bal du Moulin de la Galette.
While most of the cabarets down closer to the boulevards were full of dancing girls and well off Parisians, the little Lapin Agile was the artists' hangout. The artistic cabaret changed names several times until one finally stuck --Le Lapin Agile, the Agile Rabbit, a play on words regarding the artist Andre Gill, who painted the playful rabbit trying to escape his fate in a sizzling frying pan.
The area continues to have a great nightlife buzz. Grab a seat at Le Saint (7 Rue Saint-Séverin) if you want to experience a real local's bar for a coffee or beer, or head to La Fourmi if you are after a drink or two amongst the cool Montmartois If you are in the sparkling mood, check out Call Me Bubbles (54 Rue Custine), a tiny but trendy new Champagne bar behind Sacre Coeur.
If it is clubbing you're after try the famous club Folies Pigalle (11 Place Pigalle) or the recently revived Bus Palladium (6 Rue Fontaine), with live music or DJs depending on the night.
Be sure to check NY Habitat blog too, where you can find plenty of information about the area of Montmartre in Paris

This is a look at the hilly Montmartre area of Paris, with emphasis on the parts of the butte that are off the well-worn tourist track.
I've already made a video that shows the touristy parts of Montmartre, such as Sacré-Cœur basilica and the artists' square (place du Tertre). You can find that on my channel, or there's a link to it at the end of this video. This considerably longer video explores just about everything except those touristy areas. Of course, all of Montmartre (and all of Paris) attracts tourists, but the density of tourists declines by at least a factor of 100 once you are off the beaten track.
There is a great deal to see in Montmartre, and this video cannot do it proper justice in 38 minutes. It's much more interesting to walk through this neighborhood than it is to see a video about it. However, I've tried to capture as much of a reasonable cross-section of Montmartre as I could, for those who don't or won't have the opportunity to see it in person.
The video shows places like the rue Lepic, avenue Junot, place Dalida, rue Cortot, rue Saint Vincent, rue des Trois Frères, rue des Abbesses, rue Caulaincourt, rue Lamarck, the Suzanne Buisson garden, the two main cemeteries on the butte, assorted stairways, other gardens, and points of interest (such as several shooting locations from the movies "Amélie" and "Ronin"), and so on.
If this videos seems quiet, that's because Montmartre is a lot quieter than the rest of Paris, since the twisty little streets discourage through traffic.

Most of the principal photography was carried out on March 7, 2011.
I also have another video that shows parts of Montmartre that are off the beaten tourist track. Find it on my channel, or use the link at the end of this video.

19 marzo, GIORNO 4 - Per farmi perdonare oggi vi ho portato a Montmartre come mi avevate chiesto, fra artisti, viuzze e piccoli angoli di Parigi.

Paris Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
Paris is the ‘city of light’, the ‘city of love’ the ‘capital of fashion’. The bank of the Seine, the Montmartre and the Quartier Latin tell us of artists: about Dumas, Zola, and Victor Hugo who depicted the city in unforgettable literary pieces and about painters who did the same on canvas. On moonlit nights, and foggy autumn mornings the shadows of Modigliani, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec appear.

Travel video about destination Paris in France.
Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. First established by the Celts, next used strategically by the Romans, then it served the extravagant lifestyle of the Sun King, Louis XIV until it became a hotbed of Revolution.
Champs-Élysée is surely one of the most beautiful avenues in the world. It has wide boulevards, shady corners, ambient street cafes and classic Parisian buildings that are decorated with flowers.
Since 1873, the Palais de l'Élysée has been the residence of the French President. At the beginning of the 17th century, Madame de Pompadour lived there and during the Revolution the liberated people cavorted in its luxurious rooms.
Through a small triumphal arch decorated with scenes of Napoleon's victorious army, there is the garden created by Leotre, the Jardin des Tuileries. A bridge and fountain are the focal points of this popular park, created in typical French style.
A modern glass pyramid and a fountain decorate the courtyard of the former Louvre Palace, which since the time of the Revolution has been transformed into a museum that contains the famous Louvre art gallery. Its collection of remarkable historic treasures and superb art collection make it one of the world's most famous museums with Leonardo Da Vinci´s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, taking pride of place.
Situated on a small island on the River Seine is the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the 'Mother Church of the Nation'. Built on the foundations of a Roman temple and commissioned by the bishops Maurice and Eudes de Sully, it took almost 200 years to build this Gothic masterpiece.
Built at the end of the 19th century as a symbol of national revival, Montmartre's Sacre Coeur has the appearance of a white, fairy-tale palace with 237 steps that lead up to the main entrance of this extraordinary structure. Its Byzantine architecture and five cupolas are reminiscent of the Marcus Dome in Venice.
Of course, there are the dizzy heights of the Eiffel Tower and a great deal more. Paris is a wonderful festival of the senses!

Every corner is famous from a French movie, and we wait for Jean Gabin and Belmondo to appear on the next street. The streets and squares remind us of the Sun King, the ‘man in the iron mask’ and Napoleon. In the cafes old chansons are sung on the voice of Edith Piaf and Yves Montand. The wheel of the Moulin Rouge is unstoppable, while in the halls of the Louvre Leonardo’s Mona Lisa is smiling enigmatically, on the Pont Neuf lovers are meeting, below the Grand Arche the traffic never slows down, and the iron bars of the Eiffel Tower are looming above the Notre Dame and the Sacre Coeur.

Most of the French foods we sampled would be found at any kind of local French bakery (pâtisserie).
50 Things to do in Paris, France | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Hello, and welcome to Paris. This week we are exploring the city of love, city of lights and city of art. This video will be showing you the top 50 things to do while you visit Paris.
So we're wrapping things up here. What would be your one tip for visiting Paris? Well, I have recently spent a whole ten days here in summer. I would say that if you really want to visit the art galleries, the museums and all of the main attractions you should probably avoid summer and like either come in the spring or the fall or even winter. Because the lines are insane and sometimes you have to wait like an hour and a half or two hours just to go inside a museum or go inside a church. And you just kill a lot of time. So that is my one tip. Try and avoid summer when the crowds are just everywhere and it is also a bit too hot in my opinion. But that is just me.
So how about you? What are your final thoughts on Paris? So my finals thoughts is obviously Paris is one of the top cities in the world in terms of attractions. But it is like any other big gritty city. And you have to come with realistic expectations. There is going to be garbage, there is going to be lines, there is going to be some areas that are a bit of an eyesore. But there is also a lot of beauty and there is also a lot to do here. So I highly you recommend coming but just don't have Paris on such a high pedestal that you're going to be disappointed.
And that concludes our guide of the top 50 things to do and see in Paris. We hope you enjoyed watching, and let us know if there are other places you would add to this list.
This is part of our Travel in France series. We're making a series of videos showcasing French culture, French arts, French foods, French religion, French cuisine and French people.

Montmartre is a hill (the butte Montmartre) which is 130 metres high, giving its name to the surrounding district, in the north of Paris in the 18th arrondissement, a part of the Right Bank. Montmartre is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur on its summit and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded. Many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre such as Salvador Dalí, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh. Montmartre is also the setting for several hit films. This site is served by metro line 2 stations of Anvers, Pigalle and Blanche and the line 12 stations of Pigalle, Abbesses, Lamarck - Caulaincourt and Jules Joffrin.

Bonjour! Welcome back to my channel and thanks again for watching! My travel diaries continue as I make my second solo trip to Milano! I spend only a day in Milano to explore the Duomo di Milano, Piazza del Duomo, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II! Later on I'll meet up with my travel buddy in Paris where I'll take ya'll along as I visit the Salvador Dali museum or, the Espace Dali in Montmartre. Montmartre is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris and being that this was my second time in Paris, I just HAD to stay in Montmartre again. It just reminds me of back home, New Orleans and I love how quaint & bohemian the village is. It certainly has that authentic Parisian feel so if you're ever in Paris, I definitely recommend staying in Montmartre! Towards the end of the video I explore the Jardin du Luxembourg which is a beautiful park with gorgeous gardens throughout!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TAKING THE TGV FROM MILAN TO PARIS
-The train ride from Milan to Paris takes 7 hours and departs from Milano P. Garibaldi train station. There are a couple departures throughout the day but I picked the earliest departure around 7am so I can get to Paris quicker! The train ride cost around $160 and I purchased my ticket from http://www.loco2.com there is a 1st and 2nd class on board the train as well as a cafe, toilets & outlets to charge your electronic devices! The interior was designed by Christian Lacroix so of course it is very comfy ;)
-Very easy to get around Milano, daily metro passes are fairly cheap less than 3euro and most of the landmarks are marked on the stops. I recommend taking a stroll through Corso Buenos Aires, lots of great retail stores & restaurants! Milan is known for their "aperitivo" which is the meal before the meal or happy hour. Some of the good spots are in the Navigli area so make sure to check that out! I payed around 7 euro for a cocktail and an all you can eat buffet which was AWESOME!
-The temperature drastically dropped when I went to Paris from Milan so make sure you check the weather if you're traveling from one place to the other. I had to go buy a sweater it was so chilly in Paris!
-this is the apartment that I stayed at in Paris (Montmartre) https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1257474
-this is one of the apartments that I stayed at in Milano
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1188026
I recommend both! Had such a lovely & positive experience!
-If you're in Paris get the Paris Visite metro pass! It is unlimited usage of the metro depending on how many days you choose, I picked 5 days since I would be in Paris for 5 days, cost me 65euro.
you can get it here http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/r_61634/paris-visite/ Not only did I get unlimited metro use but I also got some great discounts at several museums & attractions! One of the museums that I visited was the Espace Dali which housed some of Salvador Dali's greatest work. Tickets are usually around 11euro but with the Paris Visite pass I got a ticket for 6euro! You can check out the info here for the museum http://daliparis.com
-Montmartre is very hilly, including several stairs so beware! It is a hell of a workout! One of my favorite places in Montmartre is the Sacre Coeur which offers breathtaking views of Paris from the top! Make sure you visit Place du Tertre in Montmartre, it's a quaint square with several artists, performers, and tasty cafes!

A walk around the city of Paris France during a period of one week in December 2011.
Paris, being my favorite city, was deserving of a longer film. I hope that this longer, yet 'small scratch of the surface' film of this magnificent city shall convince you to visit for yourselves and experience all that Paris has to offer first hand. Bon Voyage!
With Google Maps, you may get an even better idea of these spots by cross referencing the image description to the map:
https://www.google.ca/maps/@48.8516303,2.3364169,12z?hl=en
I definitely recommend taking a tour with 'Sight Seekers Delight' in Paris. Their various walking tours show you the best of Paris.

The musicians playing in the metro in the film are called "Les Musiciens de Lviv". Some more info on them: http://www.squidoo.com/cabaret-slave
The man doing tricks with the football at Montmartre is Iya Traoré, a professional football player and freestyler. https://www.facebook.com/iyartball
Camera equipment:

- Sony HDR-AX2000 HD video camera (night shots and most stationary shots).
- Sony Nex-VG10 HD video camera (walking shots).

I definitely recommend taking a tour with 'Sight Seekers Delight' in Paris. Their various walking tours show you the best of Paris.

The musicians playing in the metro in the film are called "Les Musiciens de Lviv". Some more info on them: http://www.squidoo.com/cabaret-slave
The man doing tricks with the football at Montmartre is Iya Traoré, a professional football player and freestyler. https://www.facebook.com/iyartball

Following my visit to Sacré Coeur on April 21, 2012 I strolled down the southwestern flanks of Montmartre, past the Moulin de la Galette (one of the few windmills left on the hill), to the Saint-Vincent Cemetery, a small cemetery with just over 900 graves that was opened in 1831. Famous painter Maurice Utrillo has his last resting place here. Not far away is Montmartre Cemetery which has also become a popular tourist attraction which is the last home of many famous people, including Edgar Degas, Alexandre Dumas, Heinrich Heine, Vaslav Nijinsky and François Truffaut.
I continued my walk along the Boulevard de Clichy whose most famous landmark is the Moulin Rouge, the "red windmill" that is Paris' most famous cabaret. It is the birthplace of the can-can dance, featuring a chorus line of female dancers in long skirts and black stockings, kicking their legs up high. Just a bit further is Place Pigalle, center of Paris' adult entertainment district. This raunchy neighbourhood houses many sex shops as well as the Museum of Eroticism.
Then I turned onto the Boulevard de Magenta which was full of cheap fashion shops as well as wedding stores with wedding dresses and suits from 30 Euros and up. This busy street took me to the Gare du Nord, one of 6 large terminus railway stations in Paris. Originally opened in 1846, the current station building dates from 1889 and was expanded several times. Today, the Gare du Nord is Europe's busiest railway station and trains depart from here to places such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany as well as the UK. Literally a few steps farther is the Gare de l'Est which was opened in 1849 and renovated in 1885 and 1900 and doubled in size in 1931. It is also one of Paris' grand railway stations and serves trains going to various destinations in France, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria.

Montmartre is the hilly part of Paris and home to the famous Sacré Coeur Cathedral . The area is famous for its exciting nightlife and eccentric artists. The Moulin Rouge makes its home here and while Pigalle is known for being the red-light district, it also houses great rock music venues.
