Rush begins their 3-show stint across the Lone Star State at the Circuit of the Americas, Austin360 Amphitheatre on one really muggy warm May 16, 2015 night, in Austin, Texas, USA, on their fifth stop of the R40 North America Tour. One can say that the first four stops on this tour were just rehearsals for the over-the-top performance at the Austin360. Rush performs "Xanadu" from their 1977 album A FAREWELL TO KINGS. The song ,by Canadian progressive rock trio Rush, is approximately eleven minutes long, beginning with a five-minute-long instrumental section, then transitioning to a narrative written by Neil Peart, inspired by the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem Kubla Khan. In Peart's lyrics, the narrator describes searching for something called "Xanadu" (although it is not explicitly stated what this is, references to the poem "Kubla Khan" imply that it is a mythical place based on the historical summer capital of the Mongolian Empire) that will grant him immortality. The narrator finds Xanadu and attains immortality. A thousand years pass, and he is left "waiting for the world to end," bitter in the reality of his successful quest. "Xanadu" is the first Rush song in which synthesizers are an integral part. Unlike the previous 2112 or Caress of Steel albums, "Xanadu" used both guitar and synthesizer effects, and thus represented a transitional phase for the group.
I could hear the distortion in my ears and knew the video's audio would be sorely lacking - I apologize in advance. Unfortunately distortion cannot be removed without removing all the audio.
Canadian legends Rush announced, in January 2015, a 40th Anniversary 2015 tour and ticket sales went fast, and for the last four months much has been discussed as to what to expect. The waiting is over. The R40 tour include 34 cities throughout North America this summer staring May 8 in Tulsa, OK and finishing August 1 in Los Angeles, CA, highlighting four decades of the band's music. Over the course of their amazing career, Rush has lived a lifetime together, providing an influential soundtrack to many of their fans' lives. Some have been with them since the start, while others have discovered them along the way and delved into their incredible body of work. To quote Dave Grohl from their momentous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "Rush built their following the right way. No hype, no bullshit, they did it from the ground up. Their legacy is incredible and their influence undeniable." After 40 years together and 20 gold and platinum studio albums, and 40 MILLION RECORDS, Rush is celebrating with their most loyal fans in the world on their 21st tour, one which will most thought to be their last major tour of this magnitude.
Equal parts Led Zeppelin, Cream and King Crimson, Rush burst out of Canada in the early 1970s with one of the most powerful and bombastic sounds of the decade. Their 1976 magnum opus 2112 represents progressive rock at its grandiose heights, but just a half decade later they had the guts to put epic songs aside in favor of shorter (but no less dynamic) tunes like "Tom Sawyer" and "The Spirit of Radio" that remain in constant rotation on radio to this day. Absolutely uncompromising in every conceivable way, the trio has spent the last 40 years cultivating the largest cult fan base in rock while still managing to sell out arenas around the globe.

RUSH - Closer to the Heart / Xanadu / 2112 - R40 Tour LIVE 05222015 @ New Orleans LA USA 13

On May 22, 2015 at the Smoothie King Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on their eighth stop of the R40 North America Tour, closing out the second set, Rush performs "Closer to the Heart" from their 1977 FAREWELL TO KINGS album. It was the first Rush song to have an external co-writer, namely Peter Talbot. "Xanadu" is also from A FAREWELL TO KINGS and is approximately eleven minutes long, and "2112" from their 2112 album (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") released April 1, 1976 - one of 19 full-length studio albums. Tonight they showcased at least one song from 15 of them, proceeding in reverse chronological order. On R40 Live, the band is alternating three slightly different set lists; New Orleans got the "B" list ( B for Best) in the progression, which meant we heard "The Camera Eye" from the landmark "Moving Pictures," rather than "Limelight" or "YYZ." This was not necessarily a show for casual fans -- but is there such a thing as a casual Rush fan?
The first, hourlong "contemporary Rush" set was devoted mostly to the past 20 years opening with three cuts from 2012's "Clockwork Angels". "The Wreckers," featured a squalling Lifeson guitar solo. They also exhumed "How It Is," a deep cut from 2002's "Vapor Trails." "Animate" sizzled. Lee's dexterous bass anchored "Subdivisions," which concluded the first set. "We need to take a very short break to deal with our decrepitude," he said. The show's chronological road map lent itself to a running visual gag. Stagehands dressed in red jumpsuits like the "movers" on the cover of "Moving Pictures" changed the look of the stage to match the era of the music. The steam-punk motif of "Clockwork Angels" gave way to the faux-washing machines of the 2000s – a joke within a joke. The second, "classic Rush" set started with a wall of faux-amplifiers, gradually reduced to a couple of amps resting on wooden chairs to mimic the high school gymnasiums that hosted the band's early shows. Videos made clear that the bandmembers long ago ceased taking themselves seriously, if they ever did. During "Roll the Bones," famous Rush fans -- actors Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Peter Dinklage, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello -- hammed it up during the robot-rap breakdown. There was a gag reel of outtakes from previous Rush tour videos; an extended introduction of the encore by Eugene Levy; and a final post-concert scene in which the musicians are denied entrance to their own dressing room by the puppet king from the cover of "A Farewell to Kings." Set 2 opened with "Tom Sawyer," with Peart manning a gleaming replica of his massive '70s-era double-bass drum kit. "The Spirit of Radio", then a Lifeson solo. "Jacob's Ladder," not seen in a Rush set for at least 30 years, as well as most of Side A of the concept album "2112," including an unapologetically brawny "Temples of Syrinx." The encore plumbed the band's first three albums, over the course of which they transformed from a Blue Cheer / Led Zeppelin-inspired hard rock bar band into something far more complex. For "Lakeside Park," Lee and Lifeson armed themselves with vintage paisley instruments. At one point in the encore, they stood atop Peart's drum riser, a tight trio bashing away. The final "Working Man" contained a snippet of "Garden Road," an unreleased mid-'70s obscurity. After Peart and Lifeson already had bolted from the stage, Lee said, "We do hope we'll see you again one day." Maybe they will, maybe they won't. If not, they gave fans one last look at Rush, then and now. full article: http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2015/05/rush_r40_live_new_orleans_revi.html#incart_most-read_music_article

Second person into the Toyota Center to the stage to see Rush perform on their R40 tour.
Craig Hlavaty, Reporter, Houston Chronicle: On Wednesday night generations of Rush fans of varying sizes converged on the Toyota Center to see the mightiest power trio to ever emerge from Canada. It was an especially emotional night for some fans, since the band has said recently that this could be its final, large-scale national tour. They gave Houston three hours of their time as a proper send off. There have been no public plans to make any new music, so Wednesday night’s set list leaned heavily on well-worn album nuggets and the classic-rock radio hits that turned them into heroes for kids looking for something brainier to bite into. There were no complaints. The night was divided into two sets, with material working backward chronologically, with a blistering encore as a bonus. This current tour, dubbed the R40 Tour, celebrates the anniversary of drummer Neil Peart joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson as brothers-in-arms in the summer of 1974. The rest is laser-laden pro-rock history. According to reports, Peart’s custom drum kit this tour is made from the wood of a 1,500-year-old Romanian oak tree. All the better to solo with, we assume. His two extended solos lead to outbreaks of air-drumming across Toyota Center.
The crowd was made up of old friends and rabid fans, most decked out in vintage concert tees from Rush tours decades-old. A few guys mentioned that they were amazed the shirts still fit. Some said Rush was their first concert ever and still others said that they don't remember much about their lives before discovering Rush. There's a joke about the line for the ladies room at a Rush show being almost non-existent. Every joke has a bit of truth to it. It was decidedly a male-oriented crowd. The first set of the night kicked off with material from the trio's most recent album "Clockwork Angels" from 2012 and worked back to "Subdivisions" from the "Signals" LP, released in 1982. The sweat of sheer fan-dom set in as the band hammered into the metallic "Far Cry" and "Roll The Bones" which both got heads banging, even in the cheap seats. A few brief dashes of pyrotechnic flash were thrown in for good measure. A brief intermission was cut short by a short film featuring the band goofing around behind the scenes in a series of ridiculous costumes and makeup. The band then got to work, starting with "Tom Sawyer" and digging into the cuts that gained them lifelong fans. Leaning into the bedrock "2112" and "A Farewell To Kings" material is a no-brainer. This passage proved beyond a doubt that if the band wants to slow down their touring, it's not because their chops are dulling. The night's encore brought the band back to their roots, playing the deep, nimble blues-rock that busted them out of Canada and onto rock radio in the early '70s. The band had a Blue Cheer bite that was undeniable in those days. The guys just covered it in layers of synths and mystic vibes as the years went on but at their heart this is what they are. Rush remains one of those rare musical acts that can bridge the generations without anything getting lost in translation. On Wednesday night devotees got one heck of a last look, with ringing eardrums to match, if this is in fact the end of the touring line.

RUSH - 2112 Overture~GrandFinale - R40 Tour LIVE 05162015 @ Austin360 Austin TX USA 20

Rush performs "2112" from their 2112 album. 2112 (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released April 1, 1976. At this performance are "Overture", "Temples of Syrinx", "Presentation, and "Grand Finale". "2112" features the seven-part title suit, e written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics written by Neil Peart telling a dystopian story set in the year 2112. The album is sometimes described as a concept album although the songs on the second side are unrelated to the plot of the suite. Rush repeated this arrangement on the 1978 album Hemispheres. 2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (the other being Moving Pictures). The Starman emblem (also known as the 'Man in the Star' logo) was adopted by Rush fans as a logo since its first appearance on the back cover of 2112. Peart described the Starman in an interview with Creem magazine: "All (the naked man) means is the abstract man against the masses. The red star symbolizes any collectivist mentality." With regard to the album, the 'collectivist mentality' referred to is depicted as the Red Star of the Solar Federation, which according to the plot is a galaxy-wide federation that controls all aspects of life during the year 2112. The figure in the emblem is depicted as being the 'Hero' of the album: Says Hugh Syme - nude being .the pureness of his person and creativity without the trappings of other elements such as clothing. The red star is the evil red star of the Federation, which was one of Peart's symbols. We basically based that cover around the red star and that hero."
No hype, no bullshit, they did it from the ground up." After 40 years together and 20 gold and platinum studio albums, and 40 MILLION RECORDS, Rush is celebrating with their most loyal fans in the world on their 21st tour, one which will most thought to be their last major tour of this magnitude.

Here, live from the Bank of Kansas (BOK) Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, on opening night, May 8, 2015, Rush performs "Working Man" from their 1973 self-titled debut album RUSH. Working Man is a song by rock band Rush from its debut album, Rush. Lyrics by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. The middle of the song features an extensive instrumental jam with two guitar solos by Alex Lifeson, and freestyle bass playing by Geddy Lee. It was voted 94th in Guitar World magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitar solos. Donna Halper, then a disc jockey and music director at WMMS FM in Cleveland, Ohio is credited with getting Rush noticed in the United States by playing "Working Man" on the air. The song proved particularly popular in the working-class town. The response resulted in a record deal for the band, which gave her special thanks for her part in their early history and dedicated their first two albums to her. The song features the band's original drummer and co-founder, John Rutsey, who was replaced by Neil Peart. On the 1976 live album All the World's a Stage, the song segues into "Finding My Way" and one of Neil Peart's drum solos. After not performing the song live for a number of years, it has become a staple of their concerts since they opted to play it on their 2002 Vapor Trails tour. It has appeared on every tour since (except Snakes & Arrows) and has been included on Rush in Rio, R30 and Time Machine Tour albums. The band performed the song early in the Clockwork Angels Tour of 2012 before retiring it for the second leg of the tour.
I could hear the distortion in my ears and knew the video's audio would be sorely lacking - I apologize in advance. Unfortunately distortion cannot be removed without removing all the audio.

Rush begins their 3-show stint across the Lone Star State at the Circuit of the Americas, Austin360 Amphitheater on one really muggy warm May 16, 2015 night, in Austin, Texas, USA, on their fifth stop of the R40 North America Tour. One can say that the first four stops on this tour were just rehearsals for the over-the-top performance at the Austin360. Rush performs "Roll the Bones"- from their 1991 ROLL THE BONES album - along with a celebrity rappers video. ROLL THE BONES is the fourteenth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1991. It was recorded at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec and McClear Place in Toronto, Ontario with Rupert Hine returning as producer. The album won the 1992 Juno Award for best album cover design. Roll the Bones became Rush's first US Top 5 album since 1981's Moving Pictures. "Bones" is a slang term for dice. In the Roll the Bones tourbook of 1991-92, Neil Peart described both the mindset of the lyrics written for not only the title track, but also the album "No matter what kind of song you choose to play, you’re betting your life on it, for good or ill, and what you believe is what you are... No one can ever be sure, in this best of all possible random universes." That's why the essence of these songs is: if there's a chance, you might as well take it. So what if some parts of life are a crap shoot? Get out there and shoot the crap. A random universe doesn't have to be futile; we can change the odds, load the dice, and roll again…. For anyone who hasn't seen Groucho Marx's game show You Bet Your Life, I mean that no one but Groucho knows the secret word, and one guess is as good as another... Anything can happen. That is called fate.

Rush performs "Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage": Part 1, Neil Peart's drum solo, finishing up with "Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage: Part 3", including. It is from their 1978 HEMISPHERES album. "Cygnus X-1" is a two-part composition by Canadian progressive rock band Rush. The first part, "Book I: The Voyage", is the last song on the A FAREWELL TO KINGS album and the second part, "Book II: Hemispheres", is the first song on the following album HEMISPHERES. Book I clocks in at ten minutes and twenty-five seconds (10:25), and Book II is eighteen minutes and eight seconds (18:08). A mysterious black hole, titled Cygnus X-1 (believed to be an actual black hole), lies in the constellation of Cygnus. An explorer aboard the ship Rocinante is drawn in by the black hole. As he moves closer, it becomes increasingly difficult to control the ship and he is eventually drawn in by the pull of gravity. His final words in Book I are: "Sound and fury drown my heart/Every nerve is torn apart." Just before the final note a faint heartbeat is heard.

Rush performs "Between The Wheels" which appears on their tenth album GRACE UNDER PRESSURE in 1984, on the video R30 (2005) and on the live album in 2008, SNAKES & ARROWS LIVE. A nickname for the album is “P/G” (grace under pressure). The line "Another lost generation" is from a quote by Gertrude Stein used by Ernest Hemingway at the beginning of The Sun Also Rises. The album is notable for the radical new influences it displayed, especially reggae and ska. It is also notable as being the first Rush album that had no program music. The album also includes "Red Sector A". that provides a first-person account of a nameless protagonist living in an unspecified prison camp setting. Lyricist Neil Peart has stated that the detailed imagery in the song intentionally evokes concentration camps of the Holocaust.
I could hear the distortion in my ears and knew the video's audio would be sorely lacking - I apologize in advance. I did try the band-aid over the mics and it had some effect on baseline distortion. Thanks for the suggestion.

Equal parts Led Zeppelin, Cream and King Crimson, Rush burst out of Canada in the early 1970s with one of the most powerful and bombastic sounds of the decade. Geddy Lee was born Gary Lee Weinrib. "Geddy" came from his grandmother's pronunciation of "Gary" - she had a Yiddish accent. Alex Lifeson was born Alexander Zivojinovic. Lee plays bass pedals and synth pedals with his feet as he plays bass and sings, as well as switching his hands from bass guitar to keys on different keyboards/synths. Peart has one of the most diverse drum kits in history, with over 400 different sounds. Absolutely uncompromising in every conceivable way, the trio has spent the last 40 years cultivating the largest cult fan base in rock while still managing to sell out arenas around the globe.

wn.com/Rush Between The Wheels R40 Tour Live 05162015 Austin360 Austin Tx USA 8B

Missed Rush in Canada or the East Coast playing "Losing It", and although we had our fingers crossed for this special treat in Seattle Rush fans united at Spirit of 77 to prepare themselves for the show of their lives at the Moda Center (aka Rose Garden) in downtown Portland, Oregon, on July 21, 2015, for Rush's West Coast graceful southerly pilgrimage from Vancouver down to LA for the final concert August 1, 2015 of the R40 North America Tour. The Canadian band Rush continues the backwards progression of their life's musical work performing "Red Barchetta" from their MOVING PICTURES album from Mercury Records and PolyGram. The song describes a future in which many classes of vehicles have been prohibited by "the Motor Law". The narrator's uncle has kept one of these illegal vehicles (the titular red barchetta sportscar) in pristine condition for some "fifty-odd years" and keeps it hidden at his secret country home (previously a farm before the enactment of the aforementioned Motor Law). Every Sunday, the narrator sneaks out to this location and goes for a drive in the countryside. During one such drive, he encounters a "gleaming alloy air car" that begins to chase him along the roads. A second such vehicle soon joins the pursuit, which continues until the narrator drives across a one-lane bridge that is too narrow for the air cars. The song ends with the narrator returning safely to his uncle's farm. Barchetta, literally "small boat" in Italian, is the diminutive form of barca ("boat" or "craft"). In the automotive industry, the term is used for a 2-seat car without any kind of roof. It is normally pronounced Italian pronunciation: [barˈketta], even though Geddy Lee mispronounced the word during the song. The song was inspired by the futuristic short story "A Nice Morning Drive", by Richard Foster and published in the November 1973 issue of Road and Track magazine.

The Canadian band Rush continues the backwards progression of their life's musical work performing "Roll the Bones"- from their 1991 ROLL THE BONES album - along with a celebrity rappers videoactors Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Peter Dinklage, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello -- hammed it up during the robot-rap breakdown.

RUSH - Jacob's Ladder / Hemispheres / Cygnus X-1 - R40 Tour LIVE 05222015 @ New Orleans LA USA 12

On May 22, 2015 at the Smoothie King Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on their eighth stop of the R40 North America Tour, midway thur the second set, here's nonstop Rush performing "Jacob's Ladder" from their January 1, 1980 release PERMANENT WAVES, their seventh album. Jacob's Ladder is a reference from the Bible's Old Testament, Genesis 28:10-22. Rush then performs "Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage": Part 1, Neil Peart's drum solo, finishing up with "Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage: Part 3", including. Book I.
If not, they gave fans one last look at Rush, then and now. full article: http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2015/05/rush_r40_live_new_orleans_revi.html#incart_most-read_music_article

wn.com/Rush Jacob's Ladder Hemispheres Cygnus X 1 R40 Tour Live 05222015 New Orleans La USA 12
Book I.
Rush begins their 3-show stint across the Lone Star State at the Circuit of the Americas, Austin360 Amphitheater on one really muggy warm May 16, 2015 night, in Austin, Texas, USA, on their fifth stop of the R40 North America Tour. Rush opens with a favorite of mine, from the 2012 CLOCKWORK ANGELS album, "The Anarchist". The character of the anarchist in the Clockwork Angels narrative represents pure evil and disorder. Where the watchmaker represents order, the anarchist represents the antithesis, disorder. The anarchist is driven by his smoldering anger at life, at the way he was treated when he was growing up. “The Anarchist” was one of the first songs written for the record, Alex says in a MusicRadar interview. “It goes back a couple of years. It’s an in-your-face song, and it’s a powerful part of the whole suite." “A sprightly, snaggle-toothed guitar riff leads to a boisterous rocker in which Lee, Lifeson and Peart tumble over one another with calisthenic agility. It’s interesting how few bassists can drive the melodic center of a song without coming off as scenery chewers. Geddy Lee fills the air and is supported by Lifeson and Peart, both of whom allow him to reach into himself. Not that the other guys don’t get some, too: Peart punches holes in the mix. His approach is, for the most part, free-wheeling and swinging, but every so often he whacks the snare to such a degree that his hits sound like gunshots. And Lifeson turns in a delirious, elastic solo – during one rather grand phrase he reminds one of Eric Johnson, that sweet, tubey violin tone of his. The song ends abruptly, and you’ll probably do a double take as you hear shards of metal clanging and falling, the journey powering forward.”—Joe Bosso, MusicRadar
Canadian legends Rush announced, in January 2015, a 40th Anniversary 2015 tour and ticket sales went fast, and for the last four months much has been discussed as to what to expect. The waiting is over. The R40 tour will visit 34 cities throughout North America this summer which began May 8 in Tulsa, OK and finishing August 1 in Los Angeles, CA, highlighting four decades of the band's music.

On May 22, 2015 at the Smoothie King Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on their eighth stop of the R40 North America Tour, closing out the second set, Rush performs "2112" from their 2112 album. 2112 (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") is the fourth studio album released in 1976. Rush repeated this arrangement on the 1978 album Hemispheres. 2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The figure in the emblem is the 'Hero' of the album.

Rush performs "Jacob's Ladder " from their January 1, 1980 release PERMANENT WAVES album. It was the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, recorded at Le Studio, Morin Heights, Quebec, and mixed at Trident Studios in London, UK. The song was played live for the first time since 1980 on Rush's R40 Tour in 2015. Jacob's Ladder is a reference from the Bible's Old Testament, Genesis 28:10-22. Jacob has a dream about a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Neil Peart (Rush Backstage Club newsletter, December 1985): "This song simply describes the phenomenon of the sun breaking through the clouds in visible rays, as it sometimes does after a rain or on a cloudy day. The actual name seems to be one of those traditional names for natural things which has probably been around for ages. I think Geddy actually suggested the idea to me, after hearing his mother-in-law use the name. It had a nice sound to it, and of course the event itself is a beautiful and inspiring one."
In the April, 1980 issue of Sounds magazine, Neil explained how the song was written: "Whereas most of the ideas we were dealing with this time were on the lesser side, and in some cases, like in 'Jacobs Ladder,' looked at as a cinematic idea. We created all the music first to summon up an image -- the effect of Jacob's Ladder -- and paint the picture, with the lyrics added, just as a sort of little detail, later, to make it more descriptive." (thanks, Mike - Mountlake Terrace, Washington, for above)

At the 17,000 seat sold-out Forum in Los Angeles, California, fans from as far east as the U.K., south to Argentina and Brazil, and west, and down under, to Australia united for Rush's final stop of their R40 North America tour on August 1, 2015. After the intro video, Rush opens with "The Anarchist, from the 2012 CLOCKWORK ANGELS album. The character of the anarchist represents pure evil and disorder.

Las Ponzas: A Hidden "Surrealist Xanadu" Paradise in Mexico
Las Pozas, Xilitla was the creation of Edward James, the eccentric English poet and artist, and patron of the Surrealist movement. Its origins date back to 1947 when Edward, living in semi exile in Mexico, acquired the coffee plantation near Xilitla, San Luis Potosi, - now known as Las Pozas - registering it in the name of his friend and guide Plutarco Gastelum, who would later become the foreman

В остальной части Индии местные традиции сохранились в более полном виде, а позднейшую культуру формировала английская колонизация. Las Pozas, Xilitla was the creation of Edward James, the eccentric English poet and artist, and patron of the Surrealist movement. Its origins date back to 1947 when Edward, living in semi exile in Mexico, acquired the coffee plantation near Xilitla, San Luis Potosi, - now known as Las Pozas - registering it in the name of his friend and guide Plutarco Gastelum, who would later become the foreman and overseer of all construction there. For the next ten years Edward used “Las Pozas” to plant orchids and as a home for exotic animals. After a unprecedented frost in 1962 destroyed many of the orchids, Edward started building the extraordinary sculpture garden we see today. The design of "Las Pozas" was inspired both by his orchids and the vegetation of the Huastecan jungle combined with architectural elements taken from the Surrealist movement he was so closely involved with.
