The Billboard 200 is a ranking of the 200 highest-selling music albums and EPs in the United States, published weekly by Billboard magazine. It is frequently used to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Often, a recording act will be remembered by its "number ones", those of their albums that outsold all others during at least one week.
The chart is based solely on sales (both at retail and digitally) of albums in the United States. The sales tracking week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday. A new chart is published the following Thursday with an issue date of the Saturday of the following week.
Normally new products are released to the American market on Tuesdays. Digital downloads are included in Billboard 200 tabulation, as long as the entire album is purchased as a whole. Albums that are not licensed for retail sale in the United States (yet purchased in the U.S. as imports) are not eligible to chart. A long-standing policy which made titles that are sold exclusively by specific retail outlets (such as Wal-Mart and Starbucks) ineligible for charting, was reversed on November 7, 2007, and took effect in the issue dated November 17.

Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and occasional actress. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of fourteen to pursue a career in country music. She signed to the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's self-titled debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. "Our Song", her third single, made her the youngest sole writer and singer of a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 50th Grammy Awards.
Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in late 2008. Buoyed by the chart success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless attracted a crossover audience and became the top-selling album of 2009. The record won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Fearless also received Album of the Year plaudits at the American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards and Country Music Association Awards, making it the most awarded album in country music history. In 2010, Swift released her third album, Speak Now, which sold over one million copies in its first week. She then embarked on the 111-date Speak Now World Tour, which was attended by over 1.6 million fans and has become one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. The album's third single, "Mean", won two Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. Swift is currently recording her fourth studio album, due for release in the fall of 2012.

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She made her recording debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and released her self-titled debut studio album, Mariah Carey. The album went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit records, including Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993) and Merry Christmas (1994), established her position as Columbia's highest-selling act. Daydream (1995), made music history when the second single, "One Sweet Day" a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest running number one song in US chart history. During the recording of the album Carey began to deviate from her pop background, and slowly traversed into R&B and Hip-hop. After her separation from Mottola, this musical change was evident with the release of Butterfly (1997).

The album received mixed reaction from contemporary music critics. Many critics praised the catchiness and production standards, while ambivalent towards the group's tacky imagery and vocal abilities. Upon its release, it debuted inside the top ten in many European countries including Denmark, Austria, Finland and Italy.
It became the group's best-selling album on the US Billboard 200, peaking at thirteen. The album became the highest selling album in Russia. with estimated shipments of one million copies. They went on to promote the album with their Show Me Love Tour.
One of the three official singles "All the Things She Said" became one of the most successful singles in the 2000 era, charting at the top spot in over 20 countries. The song was responsible for bringing the group to the spotlight, particularly with the music video, which caused international controversy.
"Not Gonna Get Us" and "How Soon Is Now?" charted moderately worldwide. With the sales, they became the first Russian act to have an album charting in many charts worldwide, and the second to chart on the US Billboard 200. The first was Gorky Park in 1989.

In its debut week, the self-titled album from the 24-year-old New Jersey rapper sold 75,000 albums, 270,000 songs and was streamed 39 million times, totalling 129,000 units in the week ending Oct. 1, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.
Last week's chart-topper, rappers Drake and Future's surprise release of "What A Time To Be Alive," dropped into the second slot with 107,000 units sold. Don Henley, founding member of rockers The Eagles, claimed No. 3 with his first solo album in 15 years, country record "Cass County" selling 89,000 units.

Drake and Future’s recently released joint album, What a Time To Be Alive, has shot up to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The LP has given Drake his second No. 1 album in 2015. In the week ending Sept. 24, it sold 375,000 copies according to Nielsen Music. Of that amount, 334,000 were pure album sales.
The album was released on Sunday (Sept. 20) as a collaborative release through Cash Money Records with Epic. At first, it was available exclusively on Apple Music, but later was released on iTunes.
Billboard stats reveal that What a Time To Be Alive has the third-largest week for an album in 2015.
